Tanya, I see that you're on Zoom, so we're going to ask when we activate items for you to go ahead and raise your hand as a participant, then we'll call upon you. And we'll work on the cues for muting and unmuting, but also checking whether or not people can see closed captioning and whether or not that closed captioning can be translated into Spanish.
I'm sure you heard me.
Am I supposed to have access to unmute myself, unmute myself? No.
They have you as host, that's why.
Oh, control. Yeah. Can you guys make me like I'm a participant, like I'm from outside?
Already done.
Perfect and I see that there's closed captioning on the bottom, so we just need to see if there's options on individual iPads that can change that into a different language. Activate our first item. A public hearing. People want to jump in and raise their hand as speakers. Our first public speaker on Zoom is Trina Mathewson.
Hi, this is Trina.
Trina, do you want to turn on your video too? Okay. Go ahead and speak.
Hi, this is Trina. I would like to speak on a public item.
Perfect. Okay. IT, are you able to remove her video rights? And Trina, are you able to redo your video rights? I want to make sure it's functioning properly.
You cannot start your video because it is disabled by the host.
Wonderful. That's perfect. All right. Your time is up. Thank you. Our next speaker is Tanya Thomas.
Yeah, I'm able, I mean, I'm able to mute and unmute myself. Is that how it's supposed to be?
You're not supposed to be able to, but I wonder if it has to do with your position. Can you guys look into that?
To mute me, I'm still on mute. I also am, I was able to turn on my closed caption, so that's working. Okay. And I can pick from any of the languages.
Perfect. So IT, we just need to look into that if it has to do with her being part of the IT group or whether or not that's available.
Is Trina able to unmute herself?
Trina, can you test that? Yes, I am able to unmute myself.
All right, let me check it.
No, we want the public to be able to do it. We don't have to do it here, but they should have the ability to see what's being said or translate that. Okay, so we need to figure out why both Trina and Tanya are able to unmute themselves when they're not a co-host.
Good thing I can't share anything. I'm just trying all these features out.
Go ahead and unmute yourself. All right, I think I fixed it.
OK, and is that something on the back end we need to fix on Zoom? Or is that something you handle?
It should be something we can fix to where every meeting is set up that way.
OK, perfect. And we'll go back to unmuting Trina as the next speaker.
Okay, so yeah, I got a notification that the host is not allowing participants to unmute themselves. And then I got a notification that the host would like me to unmute myself. So it sounds like that's been taken care of.
And then do you have the ability right now to turn your video on? Let's see.
No, you cannot start. Okay, now it is.
So I think what we need to make sure is that videos are on until such a time as you would be directed by either the presiding officer or myself to turn off their video. Did you guys get that?
Yeah, we have it set up to where they should be able to start their own video. But the meeting is fixed. I'm not sure about the video.
Trina, can you talk now?
I can, yes.
Okay, there you are. How about you, Tanya? We'll go ahead and try and unmute Tanya and see if she can turn her video on.
Well, let's see here. You cannot start your video because the host has disabled it.
Okay, so we've got to figure out what's causing that, guys.
Well, they had disabled my video.
Okay. So if it's on automatically now, we should be okay until we're asked to disable it.
Right.
Okay, perfect.
Now, does that, my question is, does that affect muting and unmuting, though?
Let's try it out. Can you guys mute Tanya, please? Tanya, are you able to unmute yourself? Okay, perfect.
Let's see here. I did try to change my closed caption to Spanish, but it's still in English, even though I selected Spanish. Can you try it, Tina?
Trina, are you able to change that to Spanish on your computer?
It is a language option. It just doesn't work is what I'm saying. Like you can select it, you can save it. But I'm looking at the language down here. I just changed it to France and it's not changing French. It's not changing it.
Hey, guys, in the back end under the settings on Zoom, is there something that needs to be checked that's not checked currently that would allow that translation?
OK, so I changed it to Spanish on my closed captions and it's still showing in English.
Like maybe we have to download a language pack, guys. I'm not sure. But that's something we can ask Zoom.
Okay. I remember there was something on the settings part that I thought was checked that had different sorts of languages that you could utilize. So maybe it's just not, maybe we didn't have everything checked.
I got you.
Are you guys able to do the raise your hand feature? Okay. Trina, I see you guys. Yes. Okay. Okay.
Let me just test and make sure this see if this record works or not. Seeing all these other features down here. Request host to start cloud regard. Okay, so that doesn't work. That's good. Right, so my notice, we need to go back and check on the translate feature.
All right, you guys have anything else you want to keep trying.
Are you there, Steven?
You'll be directed to. Yeah. Anything else you guys want to try out? You want to keep testing the mute and unmute, or are you good?
Just one note is the captions for everybody on the dais is going to show as control room, just for future reference.
That's fine. It's just that we want them to know what's being spoken. It doesn't necessarily mean they're going to know exactly who's speaking. But when it comes to those participants on Zoom, it will show who's speaking at the time. But when it comes to council or anything happening in the chambers, it'll just be that control room.
Should we change that to like City of Victorville or COV?
That was going to be my suggestion.
Yeah, that'd be good.
All right, guys. If we need to reconvene once we figure out some of that translation stuff, just let me know. We'll kick something off.
Hold on one second. Let me just see one more thing. I'm going to go under these meeting settings. I was just trying to check what do the people see. So they see under meeting settings, the topic.
I saw something that came through as you, but it looked like a different language.
Oh, is it translating me to French?
It looks like it is something other than English.
For me, I'm still seeing it in English, even though I changed to Portuguese.
They have an option to show. Okay. I can just see. I was just saying, making sure they didn't have anything that would disrupt the meeting as an option. And I don't see anything working. So that's good. What about you, Trina? You see anything under your controls?
That's what I am looking at right now.
Shouldn't be able to share. You aren't able to record.
There's some different languages coming through.
Oh, yes. Look at that. I'm seeing Korean now.
Are you guys doing something in the background?
Nope, nothing on our end.
I picked Korean, so now it's showing.
But it shouldn't be changing it for everybody in the meeting.
It is.
Yeah, so we don't want the captioning to change into the other language unless that person has selected that for themselves. It's not that what would come through to us to see would be anything other than English.
It doesn't look like Spanish works though. Let's see. Let me change mine to Spanish. How about now? Nope.
Maybe it takes a few moments.
We will work with Zoom or we'll look into it and see.
Yeah, what we need to nail down is that the language doesn't change for everybody in the meeting. But for them to be able to review the closed captioning in a different language.
Right. I don't even know if it's really working because mine is on Spanish right now. You changed yours to Korean, Trina? I did.
But now it's coming in English.
Yeah, I think we changed. Yeah, I don't know. We got to figure out that captioning real quick. Or the translation. It doesn't seem like it's working properly.
And now I have the share. What's this share? Oh, sharing is not turned on. Go ahead, Stephen, what were you saying?
I found the setting that only allows us to set the main caption language, which should be English, and we will look into translation captions, which should show right below the English captions. So now we have it locked in as English captions, and we will look into the translation captions.
That would be perfect. Thank you, Stephen. All right. Once you get that done, if you want to jump on another Zoom, we can go ahead and do that and make sure everything's functioning okay. But I think we've tested what we were trying to test this morning.
Oh, yeah. It took away the option for us to even select. We could either hide or show captions right now. So it doesn't give you the option. That took away the option to select a language on our end.
Yeah.
Well, no, I think she wants them to be able to translate to whatever language they're in. On their end, though, not for the whole meeting.
Correct, and maybe that's a setting on their computer that translates everything that's going on to Spanish.
Yeah, that's what I was looking for, and I don't see it, but we can look into it for sure.
Okay, wonderful. All right, thank you, everybody.
Thank you. Thank you.
Bye.
Bye.
