Madam President, I have a resolution aimed at designating September 2026 as a month of awareness for the prevention of suicide in the city of Syracuse. May I say a few words on this subject, on suicide? I would like to briefly address the suicide rate in people suffering from the Gilles de la Tourette syndrome and in homosexual people, because I am both. Research on each condition shows that the two groups face a much higher risk of suicidal ideas and attempts, due to factors such as stress linked to the minority, social stigmatization and discrimination. People with Tourette's syndrome or chronic ethical disorders have about four times more risk of dying from suicide and nearly four times more risk of making an attempt compared to the general population. For gay, lesbian and bisexual adults, the risk of suicide is 3 to 6 times higher than that of adults and heterosexuals. According to the Trevor Project, about 37% of gay or lesbian young people seriously consider suicide as a theme. About 19 points. Let's move on to the act. I am also a member of the organization committee of our local community march, Out of the Darkness. By officially acknowledging this, you help to break the stigmatization around mental health, to open vital conversations and to show to our entire community that no one has to go through these battles alone. Suicide affects so many families here in Syracuse. But thanks to education, caretakers and accessible support systems, we know that prevention is possible and that hope is at hand.
