Before we get into the approval of minutes, could I have a motion to move the gun safety event update item to be the first item, and then the town news reach out to be the last item after November 2012? I motion to move the gun safety, discussion item 5D, all the way to the front, and then the discussion item 5A, the tablet brief, all the way to the end, after your brief is done.

Okay, so our first item is the gun safety event update, and we have Chief Krause with us, and other involvement with us who are really key in making this event a success. So thank you both for being here, and can you guys have a board, whatever you'd like to add.

Do you want to start? I can start. So we've been having discussions, so I think we've moved along a fair amount. I mean, I think the event is happening on December the 11th, which is Thursday. I spoke with both Aria Gray's uncle, who's Walter Javier, and her sister, who would like both to join us and perhaps say some things. Not for super long, I don't think. And I think we, so we, I think the venue's gonna be the 96th Street Park. And we're just going to figure out whether we should do the whole thing outside or whether we should bring it inside for some other time. And I think the time that Parks and Rec had said would be like 5.30 to 7.30 seemed like the best, right? And then we're kind of partnering with you for Pizza and the Police. Correct. Yeah. Correct.

So it is going to be a special edition, do you think?

Yes. And I think we need a name. And we talked a little bit about marketing and advertising. I spoke with the community relations committee. They're not actually, they were going to do, they kind of wanted to do a tabling thing. Yeah. For resources, they're not gonna do that any longer. Okay, but they're still gonna co-sponsor? Yeah, but they're still willing to co-sponsor it, whatever that means, and they have some money. We did find out there is a brick. We found out where the brick was, which is actually right in the middle when you enter. So that's perfect. we have wanted to make sure that we kind of promote the scholarship fund and i don't know who should be in charge of doing that i mean i don't know tina whether that would be you whether it be parks and recreation And then one of the questions Rudy had was how does it determine if there are multiple applicants? Who's the applicant chosen would be?

The Parks and Rec Committee generally reviews the applications and decides. And since there was nobody that applied this past year, if it's going forward to next year, maybe they can do two.

Gordon, do you know anything about the scholarship? Do you know who would be more knowledgeable about that?

Either Carlos, who was the last person here to do it, because I don't, Rudy's new, so.

Yeah, that's the thing, the people that were in charge were, they haven't been here. But I was a liaison to that committee for several years in previous terms, so I do remember the parts of our committee reviewed the applications and chose So we're going down the road. the scholarships, and that was prior to the Araya Gray scholarships.

Is it just one, Vice Mayor? One scholarship?

It's one for her and then another one. So they did award scholarships.

Yeah, there's two scholarships. One of them was awarded and the other one isn't.

The Araya Gray wasn't awarded. So if it's rolling into 2026, then... We could have three. There'd be the higher education one and then two Araya. Yeah, they could do two of them. So if there was a lot of that, I think it would be a little more two of them.

Okay, so I can reach out to Carlos and ask for more specifics about that. And then would he, do you think he could be the person to present about the scholarship? That I wouldn't have the answer to.

I mean, I could see if I could get more information. If there's nobody that can do it, I'll do it. If I can get more information on it. Actually, Jonah's mom was really the one who spearheaded the scholarship when she was on the commission.

Do you know anything about her?

No, I'm in detail, but I don't know anything about her.

So I think we were talking about you would put the agenda together initially.

Yeah, so we can, do we want to run through the agenda to see if there's anything we'd like to change?

So I have a welcome and opening remarks at first, and that was just 10 minutes, and I thought that would be Chief Press, Vice Mayor Paul, maybe someone from the Youth Council, but we, what, who, does anyone else?

Like, Hillary, do you want to also be a part of that? I don't know if I, I mean, I think we can talk about, I mean, I don't think I need to be a part of that. And then I guess just a shout out to, I guess, community relations supports in RAC that they're going to be kind of helping to co-sponsor.

Yeah. um do you think they should be part of part of the opening remarks like a representative should also give the opening remarks or we just shout them out during the yeah i think just i would say shout them out there yeah just say yeah yeah for sure um So that would just be sort of a welcome. Then we have, hopefully the uncle and the sister would give a few brief remarks about Aria. I don't know if we should do that before or after the gun scene. Okay, I feel like, hopefully.

Yeah, I mean, I was thinking that maybe we could do like, I don't know, this is just lots. Scholarship, so somebody could talk about her and then do the scholarship. Talk about the scholarship and the importance of the scholarship. the brick in her name. I don't know, again, if somebody from the town can do that, just to honor her.

And do we want that to be before or after the family speaks?

Well, I just think, I mean, again, I don't know. That might be a segue into then introducing the family.

But that's a, I mean, that's something that we feel comfortable, I mean, talking.

Yeah, so I was thinking, I mean, I don't know if you'd want to invite Joan's mom to speak as the former commissioner who They're headed the scholarship, so maybe it might be good if she spoke about the scholarship. And I know the break, I believe, was done by the mayor, John. So I can mention it to him if he's interested to go to the event. If not, I can mention it. Yeah, okay.

Is there going to be an MC?

This is an event, right? So you should have somebody who actually directs as we move on. Somebody to introduce the Vice Mayor, somebody to introduce the Chief, somebody to introduce Hillary, you know. I think it would be wonderful to be the emcee and lead the entire event, and that way we have a consistent flow.

Okay, that makes sense. Okay, just someone from the council could be the emcee. That makes sense. So, yeah, we did that at our other event. That's a good point. Okay. Okay. And do you know, Hilary Wendell, know whether the uncle and sister for sure want to speak or not?

I should, I mean, I can know probably, you know, within the week or that week for sure. I mean, I had told them that, you know, I would reach out to them as soon as I knew more. I talked to them about the specific date, but they actually asked for that. And we gave them a couple of choices, and my uncle came up with the 11th, which is actually a day after Harry's birthday, which would be, which I think would have been her 21st birthday that day. And so I can reach out to the master for our meeting tonight just to confirm.

And in terms of what they should speak about, obviously whatever they want, but do we want it to be like, do we want them to talk about just her as a person, talk about how gun violence has impacted their lives, talk about how, is there any specific... What do you think, I guess, that would be? Yeah, I think it would be interesting. It would be really impactful to hear both. Yeah, like the family, because it's like half a commemoration, half, obviously, that would be a piece of. Did we say before, like the family speaks after we introduce the order? Before or after, yeah.

Yeah, just the order would just be whatever would be reasonable. It's like way into the next part of the agenda.

I think the event as a whole is about, like, gun safety is impactful to hear about, like, how guns and gun violence has impacted their lives. And then just commemorating Aria and I in a very comfortable way where they see Finn and talking about who she was. Like, I want to leave it up to them. I just, I don't, I think, want some guidance for those two things. Does anyone else have anything?

Can I ask how these scholarships are given? What is the criteria for a scholarship?

That's something we're going to reach out to Carlos and ask, because we don't really know. Specifically, it's an application.

Yeah, there's a strong criteria for that. I did get the flyer from Sandra and Tom Clark. I think the other Sophia had asked me about it and I didn't really have the information so I reached out to get the information. I could send that to you. I think they have to write an essay as an attachment. Yeah, that's one of the criteria, but they also have to maintain a certain grade point average and also do a certain amount of community service, I believe.

According to the town website, they have to be a resident for five years, be a graduating high school senior in the year they are awarded, must have an MGBH 3.0, the applicant must have a financial need for the scholarship, and they must demonstrate a positive impact for community and civic education. Involvement as a term, letters of recommendation and responses. Those are the five.

And is it to be used for anything they want? I believe it's for higher education. Okay, so anything that's opposed to the college.

Okay, and then once, so once the family speaks, then we'll transition to the gun safety presentation. Is this something that you need like a visual aid for, like a PowerPoint, something like this?

Yeah, yeah. And I had talked to Rudy and he said that he would be able to, you know, hopefully set that up. They said that they would be available to be, you know, he would be there as well as, you know, some other people from his office, Parks and Rec, to set it up.

Yeah, we have a projector. We just need to make sure we have the screen.

We've got a whole 10-page application of the pen and flyer. Oh, really? I just sent it to you. Okay. So, I guess it should be forwarded to the committee, right?

Is there a 10-page application for the other scholarship as well? Probably. I mean, it's not more daunting.

The one isn't more daunting than the other.

Do you have the PowerPoint prepared now?

Yes. Well, I do. Okay. There's a scripted PowerPoint that I've used. Basically, it's through something called Everytown, and that's demand action. I was going to certainly change it a little bit around, and I was wanting to talk to Chief Press about how we could perhaps present together. And the PowerPoint is actually, the program is actually geared towards adults. but I've also represented in Bay Harbor and with everybody. So we don't talk as much about suicide and those kinds of things, but just really the importance of gun safety, the importance of adults being responsible, the importance of safe storage, all of those kinds of things. And so one part of the presentation, and I can show it to you really directly, is kind of like locks and storage kinds of things, if that's something that you might want to talk about, or you can talk, I mean, if you're interested, I mean, it's up to you what you would like to say, you know, whether you would want to talk about any of the newer laws,

One thing I am going to talk about is open carry. That's a game changer for all of us. So we'll talk about the ramifications of that and how that could... accurately affect young folks you know that gives them so much more access to weapons and parents go around like gunslingers and things like that and goes on top of the table because it's okay now and you know things of that nature now but that being said With the law as new as it is, we haven't really been exposed in law enforcement to any of this yet. It's very unique. We expected Miami, especially, you know, crazy town, right? People are crazy to be walking around carrying guns. I don't think that the impact of the law has gotten out as they expected it to. I think they decided to go with it and just leave it. It's not like they're doing advertisements and they want to turn Florida into the Wild West. So when we talk about this, it's more or less going to be generic. And hopefully the folks who attend this are equally young and adult. So the parents start to realize that regardless of laws, right? The law says you could do 70 miles an hour on the expressway. But 70 miles an hour is a dangerous speed. And a lot of people die in cars that we don't even talk about, you know. So with this law and with the people who are attending, it's not to create a fear. It's more to create an awareness. That's what I'll be looking at. I'm not going to touch so much, like you say, on youth suicide. I think that is... Well, it's a very frightening thing, and I have been exposed to it in my career, and I think that should be something, a different time, and a different audience even. Do you agree?

Yeah, yeah. I mean, I may mention, I mean, people who are in distress, and one of the things that I've done in other presentations, and especially with Denise being here, is just to say, would you take... Somebody's gone, if your family member was in distress. Yes, that's part of what we do. Right. And so for them to know that, there's a safe place for, you know, just awareness. Okay. If that's okay with you. I mean, the idea is, and then the idea just is safe storage. Right. You know, that there are storage methods. You know, obviously there's the simple lock, and then there's other kinds of things. And I know that in other presentations people talked about the fact that you can get into your, you can get access to your gun as fast as you need to. You know, I mean, you don't have to be the wild, wild west. We don't want you to be the wild, wild west, and in fact, The point is you have to think about what you're doing. I mean, that's the problem with citizens having access to guns and using them if you don't know what you're doing. I mean, it's hard enough for you as police to make sure that you have it. Right, right, right.

No, this is literally one of the worst things I've ever seen, law-wise. And it was just not thought through enough. I really don't understand it. We're having a difficult time as law enforcement in the state coming up with a statewide policy, which is what we're trying to do right now. We do have a policy through the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office that all of the Dade County Police Departments are kind of trying to emulate and put into their own policies as to how we respond and You know, there are also groups out there that are doing these things and wearing these weapons just to challenge police departments to engage them. And then what happens is they video everything and then they file lawsuits against the government for, you know, violation of their second amendment rights right um so so we're dealing with those groups also people walking around with an ar-15 and a fishing pole because if you don't know it there's actually a law that allows you to carry any kind of weapon if you're going fishing so they'll walk down the street with a fishing pole And an AR-15 that happened when I was chief on Keep Escape. And this guy had won multiple lawsuits throughout the state. So we were aware. And so all we did was babysit him. And I walked alongside him and I talked to him. And he was trying to egg me on. And we just had a car following and said, you know, I love fishing too. Let's go fishing together and let's see what you catch. And before you know it, he turned around and he left. He just came. So these are the types of things that happened before this law went into effect. And so we're expecting copycats to do these types of things. It really comes down to what you all want as part of this presentation and what you really want me to focus on. That's what it comes down to. So in the next few days, within a week, kind of finite, your request as far as I go and as far as a police presentation.

and then we'll work together on on hillary's uh you know powerpoint okay yeah i think the safe storage i think definitely the new legislation like the ramifications i have for us would be super interesting here especially since a lot of people aren't really aware maybe they're not taking track of this new new law so just informing them about how it will impact them what they can do really if like how to react if you see someone just like, I don't know, just in front of people. If you're at a party and someone has a gun or something like that. Like those type of things. Because for those young people, yeah.

And I think what you just told us is very engaging. I didn't even know about that. Bring any weapon with you fishing that people have used before the law.

And then if you had to give any tangible steps that people could take to sort of protect themselves against gun violence or like... Is there anything they can do right after the presentation or right after the event? Just like steps that we can say, like, this is what you should be doing going forward. This is a step you can make today to make your town a community safer.

So when I was talking to community relations, that really goes right into that piece, which is they thought it would be nice if we could get people to pledge or just figure out one action to take and maybe even write it down. And one of the thoughts was, you know, have a conversation with another person that I went to this presentation. Tell others about safe storage, the importance of safe storage. Ask about, I mean, one of the things in my presentation is, particularly for parents of kids who are going on play dates, is just to ask about guns in other people's homes to make sure that You know, guns are stored safely if they have guns, just to make sure that they're stored appropriately. And, you know, the other question is what should youth know? But if people could write down one thing that they might be able to do and take away concretely from this, I've been having a conversation like when I've done something, It's just having a conversation with your child. It's interesting, I don't know about you guys, but I know when I was a kid, even with my son, I didn't really talk to him about it. But just having a conversation with your kid, your child, about what would you do in this situation. I would love to be able to, if you need to call me, you know, it happens certainly around, you know, if you're a party and there's drugs or drinking and you don't want to be in or you want me to pick you up, no questions asked, just call me and I'll be there. But, you know, just things that you can do I think is an important piece to it.

Like having a call to action at the end of the presentation. Right. And that would be really helpful. Right.

So we can have maybe paper or something like that that we could write something down. We could write something down and just... just so that they know and they could make some kind of a pledge. What could they do specifically?

This is sort of like a weird idea, but I like the idea. How much of this do we want it to be like a memorial commemoration? Yeah, we're kind of caught in both sides, right? We're doing two different things. Because an idea is a picture of her with flypaper, and you write a note and you stick it on it. So it's like you're pledging to Aria for a better world. So it's something like that, like in the realm of that, just so it's not like writing it down, but it's sort of like tying it all together.

I mean, if that's something you're interested in, I can ask the family if they're comfortable with that. You know, I don't know, you know, or just having a box. you know, put it in, you know, some kind of something.

Something concrete.

Yeah. Yeah. if that's something i can ask them i mean i'd rather i'd like to ask definitely you should get their permission and and maybe another thing we could do is sort of is that but the last thing we do maybe is talk about the already great scholarship and talk about the breaks to sort of wrap it up yeah it's a good it's a good conclusion okay you want to do it so that yeah you can do that at the end you want to do that at the end okay that's perfect

Another thing I was thinking of is when this happened, there was like a public memorial kind of outside the family home, which was across from Publix. So you had the whole street blocked off. So maybe some kind of like candlelight vigil might be nice to... We'll be at the park, so it's different, but because it goes into nighttime.

Yeah, a little like a moment of lighting a candle or putting the flesh. Yeah, definitely something. We can brainstorm more ideas, but I think that's good to tie it back to. Yeah. And then there was just the last item, or I guess we're going to switch up the order, but there was also going to be a Q&A. Is that still okay? Of course.

Okay. And then the other question that I just had was the marketing and the advertising piece. Yeah. I mean...

I can make a flyer. I normally make the flyers for the council events, or we can just use a piece of the police sort of template.

Well, you can work with Sydney, our communications director here. She would love to work with you all and put something together. She's got great ideas.

I guess that deadline is next week, so if you could get with her by like... Wednesday, ideally. Yeah. Great.

I believe there's also the bulletin board outside the Parks and Rec that can be centered all the time.

Yeah, if you can get it by Wednesday, next week you can get it in the dessert.

And kind of along with that, we had talked about maybe putting it out to the other, like Bell Harbor or Bay Harbor. I did talk to my synagogue. They're willing to, I don't know, she said about a logo, I don't know if we really need our synagogue to put a logo on it, but certainly if we could, if we had something concrete, then they could put it in, you know, out there, and, you know, especially for the youth committees. through the synagogue if they're interested in coming and participating. And then I don't know, we talked a little bit about the schools. I don't know if anybody talked to, I think we, you know, are there any schools?

Yes, Sophia had mentioned if there was like a gun safety club at each high. I don't think there is, but we could try to. We can try to get it to the student council or, I don't know. Can you see anything at all?

Through the church. About the Gazette, I just saw here that the December Gazette deadline is this Friday.

Well, Monday technically is the deadline to get everything in. But if you can get it to her by tomorrow, we can probably get a flyer submitted for the December Gazette.

Okay. This might be more of a logistics question, but for the flyer, if we're doing it as a – we can either, as you said, use the poster of the piece of the cops or – I mean, I don't think we have that much time, but if you might need to ask the family if we could use your picture.

Yeah, really. The pizza with the cops thing is like, we'll have pizza there. And I'll be there. We'll have some of our officers there. So, you know, it'll give people the opportunity to mingle and eat. I would say rather than make that even a part of this, that'll just naturally be a part of it. And y'all focus on, you know, the gun safety and scholarship and this young lady's legacy.

Do you have a set deadline for applications and a sponsor?

It was due, if I'm not mistaken, August 1st. Oh, it was due. Right, so I think you're scrolling into the next year.

I mean, maybe we could change it.

Yeah, so August 1st. Let's just call it August. Well, technically, yeah. If they're going to continue it, yeah.

Yeah, I mean, I think that could be done.

Or since no one applied to the last one, should we set a new deadline? I feel like that wouldn't be that.

It would just... Whatever deadline you guys want to put on the flyer, you can put it. I feel like if you make it too far in advance, everybody's going to forget about it.

Yeah, you can do, like, February 1st.

That's, like, my last one. Oh, okay. If you want, I can look and see if I have any photos from the vigil that was held. I'm not going to find anything else in it tonight.

And then just to confirm, we're doing 96th Street Park, but we're doing the indoor room because you need the screen, or are we doing it just in a grassy area?

So you could do outdoor screens. I'm sure they could do that. But it really comes down to what you all want to do. I, you know, to be honest with you, I wasn't thinking about daylight shaking stuff.

It's going to be dark. The best opinion is to do it inside the building. Right. We'll set it up in a way of it being kind of like a bunch of chairs that can be the projector with the screen on the other end. That way people can sit and kind of have like a quorum. Think of it like a stage. You guys are going to be on one side just speaking to the crowd of people that are going to attend. And we'll have the pizza maybe like somewhere off to the left where if they want to go outside, we'll try to see if we can put some tables where people can

Yeah, we can put up the tent. We can put up our police tent and have the pizza out there and people, when we're done, they can enjoy some tears.

Once you're done with the meeting, go downstairs and eat the pizza. Exactly.

So we'll do the meeting first, pizza second? Yes.

Okay. That way people don't just come to eat the pizza.

Right. Stuff's not good. I'm terrible.

I'm a pizza guy. So, I mean, and then do we want to like a, like a starting, I know we're talking about like 5.30 to 7.30 doesn't necessarily have to be, or maybe 5.30 to, I mean, we'll say 5.30 to 7.30 to be over at 7-ish, you know, but do we, When do we really want to start the presentation? Do we want to start at quarter of? Just so that we know.

I think we should all be there by 5.30, but not a lot of people are here.

So we want to start pretty close to 5.30. At what time do you want the pizza delivered so it's ready to go? 6.30? So if this thing goes an hour... by the time they get set up downstairs and stuff like that it goes until 6 30 7 o'clock and then people just walk downstairs yeah just try to have an idea of how long the presentation is going to be that way you can coordinate that but other than that what do you say We usually do both. We do kosher and we do regular people. They get good pizzas.

Always. You know what's how we do?

I'm here to discuss public health and safety.

That's what I wanted you to say.

Okay, so my name's Michelle Weinberg. I live at 624 97th Street. For those of you guys that don't know me, I'm an occupational therapist. I work at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. I primarily work with traumatic brain injuries, stroke, spinal cord injuries. But I came to this awesome, you guys, this wonderful group in the summertime, I think, thinking of ideas of what we can do about helmet safety. I see some really awful, nearly fatal electric scooter accidents. My commute from Surfside to Hollywood, almost on every day, I see some crazy stuff. Like crazy insane. I started an Instagram page. I started an education, like an online format, but it really has to come from the community. And I know that you guys. put out that commercial. It was cute. I don't think it was very effective, but it's cute and I think it's a start. But what I wanted to propose to you was maybe after you get this college prep and the gun safety, which is very important, done, then maybe in January or February we could do some kind of helmet safety, electric scooter, e-bike, community a community-wide event so i'm helmet fit certified i can order a bunch of helmets free of charge from fdot so the florida department of traffic i can order the helmets i know how to fit them i can teach all of you guys how to do it we just have to make sure that every helmet that is received the name is written down and I have a little proposal of like different ideas you can pass it around and the date is not set in stone but these are just this is just an idea of what we can do for a helmet safety event and and I know the idea is also that it maybe coincide with the ordinance. So Bay Harbor has an ordinance of helmets. So my idea, and you guys can take that with you, but I know that the town is also trying to figure out some type of ordinance to create for micro-mobility devices And I think that if it comes from the youth, and it comes from all of us, and the more we get people to be educated about safety, and that you have to stop at the stop sign. You know, I almost got plowed over by an electric scooter walking over here. And then with daylight savings, that's a whole other concern. So this is my idea, and I open it up to you guys.

So the Bay Harbor ordinance is...

Effective.

Can you explain to me what it is?

Okay, so you must wear a helmet if you're riding any type of electric device.

Is that regardless of age?

No, 16 and under.

Well, that's state law.

Yeah, but it's not enforced. Correct. Right. So the statute of Florida is that if you're 16 and under, you have to wear a helmet. Now, we can't change the law, but we can't change the Florida statute, but we can build awareness and maybe one day, Florida will realize that, yes, we're a free state, but maybe we should up it to 18. Because these bikes, these e-bikes and electric scooters, they're going way faster than the normal speed that they should be going. And I'm all for people getting on them. I just think that we need to do it more safely. I'm not that person stopping everybody.

So like 305 is the one that usually runs that program and they go all over 305 and there's other different organizations that do it in Broward, but they actually got eliminated. They lost all their funding this year. So the woman that does Bike 305, she is willing to come and partner with us and help us. Her name is Susan, and I have her information. And she does things like this. So I love that that was effective for you.

Can I make a suggestion, too? Of course. So we did on-campus skating when I was there. We did a bicycle rodeo, and we gave away helmets, and it was really effective. But the bicycle units, the police bicycle units, are highly trained. And I might be able to get my partners from Miami Beach, my old department, to bring their bike squad here and actually show the different... things that they do, similar when we do a canine demonstration or things like that. But it's amazing what these folks do on bicycles. And again, it has nothing to do with overall safety, but it's so interesting that it generates the thought, just like what you and your dad did. And at the same time, those cops don't go anywhere without a helmet. You know, that is part of the rule of, you know, law that we have as police officers on our own safety. So that might be something we might want to add, just a really cool demonstration because they do things on a bike that it's really hard to imagine.

So she recommended either... Because with Ruth K, the events are all sponsored, the after school events are sponsored by Bay Harbor. So she said either do something collaborating with Bay Harbor, like reaching out to them, or do the project in a different way. So I was thinking, I don't really know if we have that much experience collaborating with Bay Harbor in that sense of like after school things.

I honestly don't know how that would work to set up an entire after school activity with the time being available. And would people go? So, previously I was trying to get native gardens in the Bay Area, but that got shut down, unfortunately. But we do still have this little native garden that's called Flamingo Garden Park on 92nd Street. Yeah, that whole little thing. And I was talking to Commission Member Vildosegui about possibly hosting a little seminar there with information about native plants, how to grow your own little wildflower garden, pollinator garden, anything like that. We can serve hot chocolate. And it would be during the colder months. And he said he would talk to the acting manager about it last Thursday, but I never heard back from him. So this is just a little heads up about what's going on. And he also wanted to speak. Yes, he wanted to invite Mary Benton of Bound by Beauty. which is a little organization with Get Again Native plans to speak at this event. And I was just wondering, would I have to go through Parks and Rec for this? I mean, if Jerry is in... I think Jorge is really excited to be a part of this.

Just tell me the date and time.

I think if Jerry's involved with it, then he'll... Involved-ish. So he... I've been trying to get him to email me back, but so far it's not looking good. But did he say... Maybe you should... Like, is there any way you could just, like, schedule an in-person meeting? Because, like, I know emails get, like, interested. Why?

I think if you're looking to schedule the speaker as he suggested, then you might be better off pinning him to a date. That's something he wants, so he'll make sure it gets scheduled. If you're just doing, like, just informal gatherings, then we can arrange that for you. But, you know, it's worth following up with him again in an email. Just say, oh, I'd love to have this speaker come, and when do you think would be a good time, and

She couldn't go speak at a commission meeting, right? That's not really the proper procedure.

She could, but I don't know that it has to be commission approved because it's, you know, Theoretically, we did want to go through with this.

It was on the agenda for what to do with the park because I think there was a plaque there that was removed. So he could also, I think, you know, I won't get too disgusted on the commission level, but, you know, recommending to put that plaque back and put a new plaque since the park was redone. And so it could also tie in with the rededication of the park.
