It was wonderful. So first of all, Rita, thank you for getting the food. The food was so delicious.

I've been eating there like twice a week.

It's great. It was great. Cressy was the boss. Cressy. Cressy, really good. Great falafel. I can't say enough good things about Anna Menendez. She was so generous with her time and so interesting. The discussion was great, and I just really thought it was a success. It was great. It was.

20 people. Yeah. I was really pleasantly surprised when people came out. They were very passionate. She was an excellent speaker and very engaging. and i we talked afterwards i said i didn't want to put you on the spot but would you ever think about doing a leading a workshop for budding writers in surfside because we all have stories but we don't know how to get them out you should absolutely so that's another topic to explore yeah so at some point you know if we're uh

put back on after the next commission comes in. Let's bring that up. This could be the end, guys.

idea and she is definitely wanting to do that so I think we can do another event with her and it could be really impactful we could even have maybe two authors there or something I don't know one thing and do so it's like workshopping would we allowed to we would we be allowed to add something tonight for that

Through the chair, Kayla, this board was created with this last election cycle. It's kind of like a special thing for them, but it may keep going, as Joanna said, so it may become...

But even if it keeps going, it's not something that we'll be a part of unless we reapply.

Yeah, but it's often that, you know, I'm on the tourist board. I've had a lot of recurring members that carry over, like usually two or three. So it wouldn't be surprising if some of you have gone.

Can we put in right now that we would like to continue and we'd like to reconsider? I mean, we can pick it.

You can talk to the people running. Nothing prevents you from talking to them.

Yeah. I know. I keep seeing more commissioners. Another commissioner on every block. They're very nice.

Through the chair, we do have things that we are planning. So maybe that is something that will help us to argue our case. We've met with the chief of police to do this rodeo. We've got things in the works. hopefully when we reapply we can mention all these great things we have going on. They show us where and how we could apply, you know?

Exactly. That's always through the town website, and the town clerk, there's boards and committees, there's an application, so you can just indicate that it's for the next cycle, but that lives on that page, so you can access it right now if you want under the town clerk page on our website. And your mother, get your mother.

Get in early. She really wishes she could be on there.

And then also if you talk to any of the commissioners that get elected and just say I would really like to, if you want to sponsor me, because they have to call out.

Because there's five people on a committee, right Frank? And so each one takes one of us and says, and they can vote us yay or nay.

Right. And now that it's an established board, I think they'll have any, you know, they had a little bit of a hard time in the beginning nominating everybody, but I think now that it's established, I think it will be the same thing.

And so, and if you see, like, they'll probably all be here tonight at the party. Yeah. Don't be afraid to go introduce yourself. Oh, that's right. They're campaigning. Yeah, and one of the candidates is having something Tuesday at Flanagan's. I saw that.

I mean I've talked to a few people you know some of you have put me on emails and text messages with other people but I think that the people from safe cycling Florida are ready to go I think they purchased some helmets from giveaway so that's definitely taking place you know they're they're aware of that um Recently, I sent this afternoon the information to Sam at JB Bike Shop when you gave me the email. So he should have all of the info. I think also Red Cross is going to participate. Bullets for Life, I don't think, has responded.

Right. Well, we're doing children's bereavement, which I sent you the contact of Gail Slacco, who lives in Surfside. Okay.

Yeah, so they're going to have a table for sure. Okay. They're a great resource. Yeah.

i'm in contact with her she just wanted to do like set up and everything else but we'll yeah i have some of that language in that email just because people often think like oh well how does it work so i said you know we can offer you a table two tables if you need to let me know chairs let me know how many chairs so it's mainly about just narrowing down the amount of tables and chairs that we need um we don't have tents to offer those to everybody but we you know can do the the tables and the chairs we'll set up a couple of town tents you know just maybe for like the main um and maybe for the pizza so that that can be in the shade um but i think yeah it's just about trying to confirm as many partners as possible and i'm also talking to cressy about their pizza order so i wanted to ask you all what you think the anticipated number should be for the food like we did 20 people Or 25, I think, for the book club. And there's a lot left. And there was a lot left. I figured, you know, it seemed like she was doing a lot of food. So what do we want to say? I mean, we can double slice the pizza as well.

We ran out at the sugar. At the palm frond. I mean, we can always, like, order more. Order more. Yeah. Will you be there that day?

You'll be there? Yeah, I'll be there that day. I mean, we should be able to Uber Eats it if we run short.

But we can ask for, I don't know, too much? I think so, maybe? I don't know. People are going to be walking through to go to the beach. That's true.

Through the chair, could I see if I could get a table for my resources for the community?

I think just, is it a non, are you a profit or non-profit?

I guess I'm cash paid, so that means I'm profit.

Because somebody did, I think somebody asked and I told you no because it was a, but that's just.

I guess I could offer something free that day, no, but that wouldn't, I'm not a non-profit.

But it's up to, is there a policy? It's not up to me. Is there a policy?

I'm fine I'm fine with it I'm a great resource to this community but I will just say though if you participate we may have others like Dr. Sarit she should also but we haven't offered that up to them so I think if you do I'm not here I'm giving a talk in the synagogue in Phoenix on March 1st I'm interviewing a

political journalist. Very nice.

I mean, I think you could, but just to be fair, I think you would have to open that up to all of the other dermatologies in town and like little spa people. Because then it's like your cherry picking. Why don't we do that next year?

Yeah, through the chair. Maybe this one's a little smaller. And then we sort of see how it all goes.

And then next year... And then the synagogues might want to, you know, promote early child care. Exactly. It just goes on and on and on.

Okay, so who did, so, yeah, the Bullets for Life, I did talk to her, but she was supposed to call you because that was the group that we're paying $500 for. Okay.

What did we say?

So we approved it. They make the bracelets? So what they, this is Hillary's group, and they do, they pound out the, And then they string you a bracelet. They have all the beads and everything. And it's called One Less Bullet, One More Life. And I've been to like two or three of these. It's very powerful. Great. But theirs is a fee, and we approved it. Great. But then she was going to charge adults an extra $15 to $20. I said, oh, no. I'll try to call her and make sure she gets in touch with you. I wrote to Hatzala again.

I texted him in case he saw it.

There's a Hatzala ambulance on 93rd and Carlo.

He just knocked on his door. I called the head. He said yes, no problem, but then he never called back Frank. So I sent him two names. Do you know anybody?

He'll probably get back to us in a day or two, but let's see maybe by next week. And then for the wishing tree portion, I bought the water soluble string and I bought like seed paper that has seeds in it. So hopefully, you know, we can find a way to make it cute.

Yes, and she's going to be tonight at their Thursday. So she'll be here. So I'm going to talk to her. But I wanted to ask you guys what number you wanted to base it off of. So we're going with 50 for now. But I'll talk to her. Yeah, she'll be out there.

Yeah, I think they have two sizes, but I think they have one that's like 16, which is pretty big.

The problem with falafel is when it gets cold, it's really bad for your digestion. Yeah. We don't want that.

Right. People always carry water. And you got the police department? The police took, oh yeah, thank you for reminding me. So I did ask them. They did let me know that it's going to have to be like somebody that's off duty. So they would have to, you would have to pay somebody, let me tell you. Because unfortunately they're tight staffed on a Sunday so they can't pull somebody off the street patrol to do this. Let me tell you what his quote was. And this can vary depending on who is going to fill it. But it would be, yeah, more or less $300. Do we want? For what? I was thinking.

To have a representative from the police department just kind of like a representative. I was thinking a table with.

We're going to pay $300 for our police to sit there and mute people? No, I don't think so. That's my personal opinion. I think they're out and about.

I mean, they do their coffee with the cops.

I'm not exactly sure because I haven't talked to them yet. Have you talked to them? Sam, I did. You talked to them? Okay. Well, so I'm waiting for him to respond. He was very eager to do whatever he needed. Okay, let's see if he responds. I can write down tomorrow to see if he has any brochures or cards. Because, yeah, what was your initial... know idea behind having him practicing um sort of going along with bikes the bike safety the michelle safety checking the bikes checking the helmets he's good at that he's done that before with the police miami beach maybe checking bikes could be a good angle because i know there's the other folks doing that stuff so i think maybe yeah what to look for in your bike bringing some wd-40 yeah teaching people how to pump air in the tire maybe that's great just all that yeah you want to talk to her me you talk to

All right, and I'll tell him to bring a bike. I'm tired of talking to people. I talk all day. I'll tell him to bring a bike, you know, so he can demonstrate. Yeah, demonstrate, and I think those are all great. Because I don't know how many bikes are going to come through.

And even little kids, you know, like when we were kids, you know, the chain fell off, and you turned it upside down, and you got grease all over your hands. So he could show, like, the five- and six-year-olds, look, if the chain falls off, this is what you do. That could be, like, a lot of fun.

Now, I don't know, was there ever a meeting with the chief?

Yeah, I met with the chief. He was wonderful. He wants to do a lot with us, by the way, and he hasn't picked a date yet. He's thinking it will be deep into the spring. We just don't know if we'll be around, but I told him to. We came up with a lot of great ideas. He's also, he used to be the chief in Key Biscayne, and he had a sort of partnership between Key Biscayne and some of the... less affluent neighborhoods of miami where they did things together and we talked about maybe we could help with arranging where we do book exchange or anything with we'll pick a town whatever it is and do something like that so if you guys are interested we can definitely through the chief and us put something cool together That was, I thought, a good idea. As far as the rodeo goes, we would definitely have some kind of tricks going on, show kids how to fall safely, you know, whatever we want to do. He had some good ideas, and I think it'll be a great thing once we have a date.

So what do you do for that? the uh for i've been doing for like 30 years um you go to um they have a south and a north branch to hillel day school you pick up packages and you deliver them to the elderly for passover and it's more about like sitting with them and you know kibitzing a little bit like so we do every rosh hashanah and every passover and um it just i just got the notice that So you're not going to be here? Well, no, I mean, if I'm, you know, if we see that we're going to get a group, because last time we didn't have a group. Right, and we're not doing any more chat.

Yeah, so it's going to be whoever shows, I guess.

And how are they going to know, just from the... Yeah, just gather... And the hardback is what? Could we push it to the next Sunday, possibly? Did we start to promote it already?

Yeah, we picked May 16th, 17th, or 17th, 18th, whatever that weekend is. So it's going to be a two-day. We're also doing something with Plastic Fishermen on one of the days, Paddle for Plastic. But, you know, I believe there's space for you all to do a clothing swap. Refresh?

Yes, and I... I think it's a great idea. It was really fun last year. I will be in Ducasse that weekend.

Very popular. I am happy if people want to do the clothing. We can, by the way, do anything we want. Sarah is going to give us space if we want to do something instead of a clothing swap, if we want to do a trinkets thing, you know, not clothing, things around the house. You just put your stuff there, and you just take stuff. So what we did, it was work, but it was good. We brought hanging racks, and we hung everything up, and people came, and they took, and it was actually really fun.

Did they have to bring something in order to take something? We didn't really make a lot of rules like that.

You could do a little more like that.

That was my son, actually, because we also did tables where people could sell stuff. Oh. so he sold records a three thing of a three record out thing of prints for three dollars wow so yeah that i mean that's like free and and then um the next day i then stored everything in one of the closets there and the next day lotus house came and picked everything up which is great so i think it worked on every level we've So I definitely would recommend we do it again. I'm not going to be here. But. Yeah.

Do you still want to do the charging people money to participate? It was a little complicated.

It was too complicated. Definitely not. Just for everyone to participate.

setup where people we fix cell phone screens we help watch batteries just things it doesn't it's not just elderly though i think it was the idea was for anybody but you know who needed those things done and what was your idea um did we create a task force of able-bodied people with the um

some kind of background in home repairs to reach out to the elderly and infirm and help clean up their yards, like mow the lawn, power wash the driveway, fix things, like make the facade, you know, the curb appeal of the homes nicer and help them out at the same time by also enhancing surfside because you don't want, you know... A lot of people get fined for overgrown grass, and they can't monitor it. They don't know how. I just don't see a lot of people volunteering. Oh, I have two already. My neighbor is an inspector, Sergio Fernandez, and my husband, who loves to garden and loves to help people. He does irrigation and everything. And he even, to our neighbors, he said, can I mow the lawn for you because it's really going crazy. That's a good idea.

Volunteer, community volunteers, how's that?

Yeah, community home beautification. Sure. The home beautification committee, subcommittee.

And is there any liability problem for anything? Oh, I didn't think about that. Frank? Any liability for? Like say somebody goes and helps somebody and they get hurt.

If they're volunteering?

No.

I would say the liability is more like I didn't tell you to cut back.

Nobody's getting up on anybody's roof.

I think it's less about getting hurt. I think it's more like, I didn't tell you to cut back that tree, and now you've ruined my tree. It's the only thing I would say could become an issue is all of a sudden it's like, you know, but I don't know. That could be.

It's worth a try. We can do a pilot with the two people you know and anybody else would like to volunteer. I'll call it a pilot. Mary, do you have anything you want to put on for the future? Anybody read anything in the future that we should keep in mind for another event? The future is TBD. Yeah. I'm just kidding. Yeah. We'll see. I already have Anna Menendez for her writing work, so.

In the diagonal in the west. I haven't heard of that. So the crescent moon, two above, two below.

So May 1st is the flower moon. That's interesting. May 31st is Blue Moon.

Now, does she lead these? Does Kayla?

I think she could, or we'll get someone to. I think we just pick a date, and then either we get someone.

I think we assign her to just do it.

What if we're doing a collab with Bell Harbor and Bay Harbor? Is that a thing?

We've been talking about doing more with them. Mm-hmm. I love the idea of it being on the beach. Right.

If we did it in 96, then it's like the center where everybody fuses together.

I like that idea. Just letting you know that September 26th is corn moon.

Okay, let's start with, so the March one can't be done because we haven't planned.

No, I mean, I also would need to know how this is going to work. Who's the instructor? Does it involve the facility, the time?

Kayla's the instructor or there is another instructor. We'll pick a date. We could do this maybe the next meeting since it's probably not going to be for a few months. We could invite the other two, three, three, one, five, four towns. And we can do something with our budget, like maybe yoga mats for everybody to take home.

And if we do a collab with them, we could do Surf Bell Bay on the mat.

That'd be great. I do know someone in Surfside, and her name's Andrea. She lives in yoga. Yoga? She teaches? That's great.

And would she want a stipend?

I can ask her. Does she have a studio?

I think Kayla had said she was going to reach out to someone, too, last time. So I don't know if she did. All right.

So we'll ask her anyway. The teacher is to be determined. The date is to be determined.

And a sound bowl? That would be nice.

That's what we do in Sunny Isles. Great. We just had the, I mean, I know the people that were a part of Snow Moon that did the sound healing and the beach yoga to close it off. I just did an art thing with a bunch of young breast cancer people under 40, and what we did, which actually, this reminds me of this, is we had an artist there who started a painting, and then the women all came in and sort of did things, and it's a beautiful painting that they all did made together. Maybe if we were to do that as a community relations board, We have an artist there to help us, but we have the community come and paint the turtle.

And we also had that art class. They did a painting class over here at the Fish Bowl.
