County Commission - Regular Meeting
The Shelby County Commission Public Works Committee approved the purchase of four Chevrolet SUV emergency response vehicles for the Fire Department for $238,742, despite concerns about fuel efficiency and the lack of recent hybrid vehicle research. The Law Enforcement, Corrections, and Courts Committee discussed a resolution to implement a new $12.50 fee for criminal defendants, which ultimately failed to receive a favorable recommendation. The General Government Committee approved the nomination of Edward Stevens III to the EDGE Board and Brian Boone to the Memphis and Shelby County Sports Authority Board. The Hospitals and Health Committee approved a contract for pharmaceutical services with Regional One Health and a grant for public health informatics with the University of Memphis. The Education Committee discussed a resolution to align school breaks across districts, which was withdrawn to be brought back later with a companion city council resolution. The Budget and Finance Committee addressed several items, including a resolution to reallocate $18 million for public safety expenses, which was sent down without recommendation, and approved grants for various community organizations.
