Yes. We'll stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. At this time, we'll consider a proclamation. And the proclamation is to celebrate Pride Month, June 2026. whereas Polk County is home to a diverse and vibrant community that is enriched by the presence and contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning residents, and whereas Pride Month honors the history, resilience, and achievements of LGBTQ plus people while recognizing the ongoing pursuits of equality, safety, and dignity for all. and whereas LGBTQ individuals and families across Polk County contribute to the strength of our neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, houses of worship, art organizations, small businesses, civic institution, and whereas Pride celebrations create opportunities for community connection, cultural expression, education, economic activity, while sending a powerful message that all people deserve to be seen, valued, welcomed. And whereas Capital City Pride hosts one of the largest pride celebrations in the Midwest, bringing tens of thousands of attendees to downtown Des Moines each year. And whereas Polk County Board of Supervisors has demonstrated its commitment to public safety and community partnerships by supporting Pride Fest through grant funding, that help provide security measures necessary to ensure a safe, joyful, and accessible event for all attendees, whereas Polk County recognizes that supporting inclusive public events strengthens community trust, belonging, tourism, and the overall quality of life for residents and visitors alike. Now, therefore, let it be proclaimed that Polk County Board of Supervisors hereby recognizes the month of June 2026 as LGBTQ Pride Month in Polk County, Iowa, and encourages all residents to celebrate diversity, reject discrimination and hatred, and work together to build a county where every person can live openly, safely, and with pride. Good morning my name is Wes Mullins I am the executive director for Capital City Pride and just wanted to say especially in light of the events yesterday where yet another shooting occurred at a minority group I want to say thank you all for taking the security of our Pride Festival seriously we take it very seriously and spend the entire year making sure that everyone who comes is able to have a wonderful experience It is important to be able to have the safety to then do the actual important work of making this truly welcoming celebratory space to commemorate Pride. And that's our ultimate goal. Our top thing in our surveys is always that I've never been somewhere where I experienced such love and acceptance. And if we can accomplish that year after year, I count that as a success. So thank you for helping us achieve that through your support.

11:48Speaker 5
