Joy Mayo, representing District 3. Dimple Ashmera, at-large.
Thank you, Brent. Quick question. Thank you, Mr. Mayor. I know I'd seen something on NPR at one point talking about how oftentimes for this level of work, it's having to be sent, the cars having to be sent away. Is that still the case?
Thank you. Yeah, I did want to note that and appreciate you being thorough. If you could provide a timeline to us and maybe even the MPTA, just thinking about how much, you know, with the PAVE Act, residents of Mecklenburg County having, you know, how much money that they're giving with the sales tax, the fact that we're not transporting this across the country to be maintained. So it's good news to hear that they're building a facility nearby, but I would like to know more details, particularly a timeline. And then thinking about some of the things we've talked about in the past. We have so…
Joy Mayo representing district 3. Evening I'm Victoria Watlington and I have the pleasure of serving you as a council member at large.
Okay, thank you. Bow your heads, please. Thank you. I thank you for the opportunity to be here today to get to know different people's concerns and questions and for us to continue to do the business of the city for the residents of the city. Continue to guide our judgment and help us to make the best decisions we can for our residents. Amen.
Oh, wow. Yes, an award. An award, nice. OK, do we stand up? OK. All right.
Thank you, Mr. Mayor. I guess for me, I think this is a really important topic. I know earlier over the summer and the fall, we received a lot of emails about the court arcade. That's literally a couple blocks from here, East Trade. I can see it from my office from the window, and we know that is being turned into a data center. So it was completely demolished. It's right next to the jail, a historic building that is being turned into a data center. And when people raised that concern to us, we were only able to do so much because it did not have the historic designation. So I think that's…
Yeah, so I just wanted to thank you all for your work, particularly with CMS. I taught middle school math for 10 years, and that's a weird age for kids. So I think it's really helpful that y'all were working with CMS and CDOT to think through how do we reach... those young people so that they can have best practices when it comes to writing those. I know I almost got, I was telling Councilmember Anderson and I almost got hit sitting at like, What was it? A bench. A bench, yeah. Literally, the kid was out of control with his little e-bike. I don't even think that was an e-bike. It was a moped.…
Sounds exciting, can't wait to put it on my calendar. So just want to remind people of a couple of things that we have going on October 28th. We have our micro grant for City of Hobbies. I know we've talked about some of the prevalence of violent crime. And just thinking, I think our Office of Youth Opportunities is doing a great job trying to think through how do we create opportunities for young people. when we think about the city of hobbies, the fact that young people are able to share their hobbies in real life with other young people, I think is a great opportunity. And I hope that if…
Allison Craig, Deputy City Manager. Dante Anderson, District 1. Joy Mayo, representing District 3. Good evening, I'm Victoria Watlington, and I have the pleasure of serving you as a member at large. Hi, Sean.
Yes, I'd like to have a member of CDOT come up, please, to talk about number seven and the resolution regarding this. So I'm sure many of us remember last month I was very concerned about our putting a charging station at this location for electric vehicles and the fact that there are no working streetlights at that forest point. drive and there have not. I don't know how long it's been since they've been there, but I know I have made the city aware of that for over a year and a half. So if you could just give a timeline of what we've talked about just so the rest of Council is aware and…
So just letting my colleagues know that I have, I'm sorry, worked with CDOT extensively as well as our city attorney's office to ensure that there is working street lights at this site. This is something I was very concerned about, particularly as we've had, this would be the third rezoning in that area in three years. So the fact that our team had not noticed that previously was a disappointment. So I hope that we'll be more thoughtful in the future.
Can we have a member of Stormwater come up? I sent counsel an email Friday about this it's my understanding that there are eight properties that are affected by the stormwater issue and that Charlotte waters requested a permanent easement that you all have confirmation from seven out of the eight property owners for that easement agreement and that we have one who is kind of an outlier. But can you recap this for us, please?
Can you tell us the importance of why this easement, a permanent easement, is needed versus a temporary easement, please?
How much would you say this project would cost Charlotte Water or Stormwater?
I'll have Judy sing you the music. You have to do some research.
Thank you. Yeah. Quick question. Are you, I heard the part about providing some land to a greenway, but we know with park and rec budget and such I mean, we can give them land, but when something will happen, who knows, are y'all proposing any funding for that in addition?
I have no objection. I have absolutely no objection.
Good evening, Joy Mayo, representing District 3.
I was just going to acknowledge what the attorney said before she said it, that that is something that the BGIR committee chatted about today in our meeting and we'll be talking more about in September. So thank you for continuing to raise that concern so that we can address that.
Not quoted here: it may name a member of the public. Hear it at the meeting.
ready yeah I just really wanted to highlight the map and actually having the entire Charlotte region is really helpful I think to see gaps not only in district 3 but in district 6 in district 7 and 5 when I think of when you all mentioned partnering with the YMCA I know that still Creek lost its YMCA maybe like three years ago. So I mean, I don't know who you would necessarily partner with when there's no why there. And even when you look at more closer, can you tell us more about what you would do with the high schools? Because I saw your dots in the high schools. Are you doing programming…
I really appreciate that. As a former teacher, I love data. Always one of my favorite things to look at, teaching math. But I just want to encourage all of our various partners, particularly the county. And they know I get on them quite a bit. But I see some gaps. And I hope that our residents will have some conversations with their county commissioners about investment. I'm just going to be very frank with that because it's not something that you all can do by yourselves. That investment needs to occur everywhere so that our young people have things to do and not getting in mischief. So just…
Very excited. I know Ricky Singh was supposed to talk today. Unfortunately, he was not here, but he had some great maps to show as well, and excited for him to share those. so that we can see the solutions that you are working with with your various partners. So I'll stop talking.
Thank you for the opportunity to chat. I just want to invite everyone to attend my town hall September 17th, the Ripple Effect Light Rail Housing and Investment. As we've seen with the blue line, it has had a tremendous positive and negative impact on legacy residents. If you've been there five, ten years, you can see the change that South End has had and how that continues to impact going further down with the Blue Line. So we'll be hearing from different community groups talking about how are they working with development, even along the Blue Line. We know right by Yancey Avenue or Yancey…
