Dr. Lashley, would you report to the table, please? Good evening to you all. Today is June 30th, 2026. The special call meeting is now being called to order. There is an establishment of a quorum. May I hear a motion to approve the agenda as printed?

9:17Speaker 7

Madam Chair, I move that we approve the agenda as printed.

9:20 – 9:47Speaker 9

I second it. It has been moved and seconded to approve the agenda as printed. Any discussion on this item? Hearing or seeing no discussion, may I see a show of hands of all of those in favor? That vote is unanimous. Thank you. We will now receive as information our job description for Senior Executive Director of School Leadership and Continuous Improvement, Dr. Lashley.

10:00 – 11:28Speaker 10

Good afternoon, Madam President, Vice President, esteemed board members and Superintendent Dr. Byrd. Thank you all for allowing me to just quickly introduce this position. You may recall in the last board connection that Dr. Bird has mentioned his ongoing efforts for organizational alignment. And so, this is one of those positions that will help us to do so. Recently, there has been developed a new division of school leadership and continuous improvement. And so the senior executive director will be that person that will lead this division, and it's going to call for more realignment of our organizational structure so that we can have greater efforts around the performance of school leaders and creating a more coherent system. So this is all moving in the direction of where we are going as our new way and new day in Montgomery Public Schools. Before this, as you recall, these positions we have our executive directors that exist right now. This work has been merged with our accountability, our educational piece of it, but now we're gonna look at school leadership and we're gonna look at academics as well. So this position will serve in that capacity.

11:30 – 11:50Speaker 9

Thank you, Dr. Lashley. Any questions? Dr. Lashley, we thank you so much. We know you're not feeling good, and I pray that you feel better real soon. Thank you. All right, next, Apogee. Ms. Rosanna Bruton. The Real Share Media Subscription Renewal.

11:53 – 13:22Speaker 2

Hello, everyone. Dr. Bird, Madam President, and members of the board. I'm here to just share some information regarding the annual renewal of our partnership with Aptogee. And that ThrillShare media subscription, I'm going to go ahead and call for our website to be pulled up. This is really what it's all about when you hear about ThrillShare and Aptogee. And so rather than a formal presentation, I want to just quickly walk you through this. So renewing our contract with AptoG means renewing the communication infrastructure that supports every school in Montgomery Public Schools. So not only our district website, but also our school websites, our latest news sections, so many different sections within our website. But also our emergency communication with parents, then mobile communication as well as rooms which we will be implementing in the fall and that is more of our family engagement type tool that'll enhance family parent communication with teachers so Again, so many different features for our website. I can highlight those again. District website, school websites, emergency communication, everything that you would think of when it comes to the first perception that someone gains when they come onto our website, whether they are a prospective parent, a prospective employee, or a community member. If you all have any questions.

13:23Speaker 9

Very good. Any questions or comments for Ms. Brooks?

13:26Speaker 8

Thank you, Rosanna, so much.

13:28 – 13:43Speaker 9

Thank you. Next, Mr. Anderson will be with us a minute. He's going to go over Baldwin Middle School roof replacement bid, followed by the digital marquee bid for Brubaker.

13:45 – 16:06Speaker 1

Good evening, Dr. Herrera, Ms. Portis, Ms. Watkins-Smith, and members of the board. The Baldwin Middle School roof replacement bid, that is definitely a time-sensitive measure that we need to move forward with as quickly as possible. We did come in under budget for this item, but there's a lower roof section of that project where we're going to have to pull some mechanical off in the cafeteria area and get that on prior to school starting. So it is of a time-sensitive nature. with that bid. The digital marquee bid is, again, we're trying to complete some of these prior to the start of school or shortly thereafter. Those have been strategically kind of put in different areas, like high traffic areas. For example, Goodwin, we did have two kind of closer in the same area, Fitzpatrick and McKee, but Fitzpatrick had funding to put towards that, so it offset some of those costs, and it also, that bid came in under budget as well. The maintenance HVAC filter replacement service and the maintenance HVAC equipment preventative maintenance service, this is something that is definitely coming in. You know we're out today. It's 100 plus degrees and we're in that time frame. We've been kind of limping along through with our people with technicians and a helper and a supervisor trying to keep up with some of this work. So it is something that we would like to get in place prior to the start of school when the teachers come back to make sure that we're keeping up those services and being as responsive as we can. It's a goal for us to answer all HVAC calls at least within a 24-hour period, and then also emergency situations within an hour. So we struggle through the spring a little bit with that, but these services will help us get back on track with some manpower that's definitely needed. And then the Johnson Abernathy Grotto Elevator renovation bid, I've been speaking about that the last several board meetings, and that is coming in here. We were under budget on this one as well, trying to get going on that so that we can put some of the components for the fire alarm in now so that it will alleviate some of the noise making and the things, the disruptions that could happen during the school day. We want to try to jump on that and get as much going as we can prior to the start of school to mitigate some of those disruptions.

16:09Speaker 3

I have a comment, President.

16:12 – 16:38Speaker 4

First of all, thanks for staying under budget on so many of them. The other thing, you didn't say, but you did say, and I don't know if anybody's watching this at home or teachers or whatever, but I think it's interesting that you said that a school stepped up to pay part of the marquee. And sometimes these schools that want marquees, if they think that we might help them, you know, at least they know they can come to us. So I appreciate that.

16:38 – 17:05Speaker 1

Yes, ma'am. They work and have some community partners that wanted to help them out and approached me back in the spring and we started the design on it. And this follows suit with the digital boards that we've been placing. One of the great things is Ms. Bruton's team can actually control those boards from right here. where they are and put content on there if there's some kind of emergency notification that needs to go out. So we really like that one platform. Yes, ma'am.

17:06 – 17:20Speaker 9

Any other questions or comments? Chad, thank you so much. I know you were concerned about these, and they are, although we have not heard them, we know that it's the start of school, and I assured you that these board members would understand.

17:21Speaker 9

Don't they look understanding?

17:22Speaker 1

They do. They always work well. Thank you so much.

17:27Speaker 9

All right, we're to our consent agenda at this time. Dr. Burke.

17:34 – 17:54Speaker 8

Thank you so much, Madam President, board members. Madam President, board members, at this time, superintendent requests your approval of consent action items A through K. Madam President, I move that we accept the consent agenda item 5A through K. I second it.

17:55 – 18:21Speaker 9

Excellent. Thank you. The superintendent has made a recommendation to accept the consent agenda items 5A through 5K. It has been motioned and second. May I see any discussion on those items? Hearing or seeing no discussion, may I see a show of hands of all of those in favor? It is unanimous. Thank you. Consider for approval.

18:28Speaker 9

18:53 – 19:44Speaker 3

Dr. Burr, I know that we are getting ready to get people hired and everything like that, and you're doing such a wonderful job, and you're trying to get that taken care of in terms of the background checks. So, we have approved a number, and we're about to approve a number. that are pending background checks, do we ever get the return information as to whether those who we have on the agenda in the previous agenda, do we get information coming back to us as to whether any have failed the background check or do we have any information that follows up on that?

19:44 – 20:44Speaker 8

Yes, ma'am. Yes, ma'am. Thank you for that question, for that great question, Ms. Brown. Yes, ma'am. And so once an applicant actually applies for a position in their application portal, they actually consent to a background check. And once that is done, that information is actually sent to the various agencies, including the State Department. And the State Department actually contracts with agencies such as ABI and FBI. And so it usually takes probably between two to four weeks for the State Department to actually to send us a notice stating that that person has a clear background check. So we actually receive that information and the applicant receives that information as well. And so if it's clear, everything goes through. However, if a background check is not cleared, then we actually get that information as well, and then that's when we may have to go back and actually reverse action. And so we've not had to do that just yet, but if that does occur, then we'll go back and rescind our offer. Yes, ma'am.

20:45 – 21:01Speaker 9

Good question. Any more questions or comments? May I see a show of hands of all of those in favor? It is unanimous. Thank you. Dr. Burke?
