Welcome everyone to the regular meeting for the Minneapolis Planning Commission for April 20th. My name is Chris Meyer and I'm chair of the commission. At this time, I will ask the clerk to call the role. Commissioner Baxley is absent. Chry present. Connley present. Garcia present. Gordon is absent. Jones is absent. Shepy is absent. Shepard present. Vice President Wagner is absent. And President Meyer here. There are five members present. We have a quorum. We'll move to organize or so. First, we'll move to adopt the minutes um from April 6th, 2026. Is there a motion to adopt those? So moved.
Second. Is there any discussion?
All right. All in favor say I. I. Opposed. Extensions. The minutes are adopted. Now we'll organize the agenda. Staff is recommending uh that item number four be continued one cycle and that the rest of the items be put on consent. So I'm going to read through the items. If you were here here to speak against the staff recommendation on one of these, raise your hand when I read it. If you wanted to speak in support of the item, you'll have a chance to do that in just a bit. Um so item number four will continue. Item number five, the street renaming for Caesar Chavez. Word five. Was there anyone here to speak against the staff recommendation for item five? All right, we'll keep that on consent. Number six, 1914 Washington Avenue North. Was anyone here to speak against the staff recommendation for item number six? We'll keep that on consent. Item seven, 2212 Jackson Street Northeast. Was anyone here to speak against that? All right, we'll keep seven on the consent agenda. Item number eight, 5600 Chicago Avenue in W 11. Was anyone here to speak against item eight? All right. And item nine, 501 Irving Avenue North, W four. Was anyone here to speak against item number nine? All right. Um, so to review, we will have item number four as a continuence and then items 5 through nine on our consent agenda. Um, so I'm going to um do the continuance first. We opened that hearing at the last meeting and we'll keep it open to the next meeting, but if you came here to speak for it, you can. Did anyone want to speak uh to item number four? All right. Is there a motion to continue uh this to our next meeting May 4th?
So moved. Second. All right. All in favor say I. I. Opposed. Abstensions. That is continued. I will now open the hearing for our consent agenda. So, if you wanted to speak in support of one of the items, now you can. Did anyone want to speak to any of our consent items? All right. Not seeing any. So, we'll close the hearing. Commissioners, did anyone want to speak to any of our consent items? Um, yeah. I will
um I will speak to item number five. Um, I just want to say I appreciate the city's action to move to rename the street. Um, as a person of Latino heritage, um, growing up, Cesar Chavez was somebody that I heard a lot about and was someone in the community that meant a lot to my family and I. But given everything that has come out about his behavior lately, I think this is the right thing for the city to do. and I appreciate everyone for making this effort to rename the street uh without his name.
Thank you, Commissioner Garcia. Anyone else? I guess I'll just add that that whole affair has made me more hesitant about commemorative street renaming. I know we've done a lot of those. Um but you never know what might be in someone's history. So, I'm I'm a little hesitant about um doing more of them. Um, I also don't necessarily think it needs to come to the planning commission and I know we've had some some discussion with public works about whether it does. I personally think we should change it back to where it used to be where it just went directly to the council. But that's my two cents. Any other thoughts on our consent items? All right. Is there a motion to approve the stock recommendations?
So moved. Right. Second. Right. All in favor say I. I. Opposed. Absentions. The consent agenda is adopted. And that concludes our business for the day. Uh we do have committee the whole this Thursday. It's the first time in a few months. So remember, I did not see an agenda online. You will be getting an agenda in the morning, I believe. I'll have it posted before noon and then I'll send an email out. Okay, great. But it is a first look at requests that you will be reviewing with the joint click meeting on May 7th. Thank you. And then our next full committee is May 4th. Any other updates from staff or commissioners?
All right, we are adjourned. Thank you everyone.
