Council - Special Meeting

Good morning, everyone. It is 904 on August 14th, 2026, and I'm calling to order this meeting of the Richfield City Council. If you're able, please rise and join us for the Pledge of Allegiance. Thank you. A motion would be in order to approve the agenda.

I move to approve the agenda.

Second. It's been moved and seconded. All in favor of approving the agenda, please say aye. Aye. All opposed? And we have approved the agenda. The one item on our agenda is the consent calendar for the purposes of canvassing the primary election. So I'm going to turn it over to city manager Rodriguez.

Thank you, Mayor. The consent calendar contains several separate items which are acted upon by the city council in one motion. Once the consent calendar has been approved, the individual items and recommended actions have also been approved. No further council action on these items are necessary. On today's consent calendar, we just have one item. It is item A, consider adoption of a resolution determining the results of the city primary election for the council member at large seat held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. And I submit this for your consideration on today's consent calendar.

So is there a motion to adopt the item on the consent calendar?

Second. It's been moved and seconded. Is there any discussion? I would like to thank all the voters who participated in the primary election, all the election judges and staff that helped the election run smoothly, and all the candidates for putting their name forward for the ballot. Is there any other discussion? All right, we do truly appreciate all of that. So I'm going to now call for the vote. All in favor, please say aye.

All opposed? and we have approved the consent calendar. At this point, it would be in order to adjourn the meeting, so is there a motion? Mayor? Oh, did we forget something?

If I may, City Clerk Friedrich wanted to read the results, and then I also wanted to thank everyone as well.

All right, well then, go ahead, City Clerk Friedrich.

Thank you, Mayor Seppel. So the two top candidates from the primary election will move forward to the general election on November 3rd, 2026. And the results of the primary election for the three candidates that were Sharon Christensen, Emily M. Anton, and Erin McCain are as follows. Sharon Christian received 2,077 votes. Emily M. Anton received 2,848 votes, and Erin McCain received 1,340 votes. Our total registered voters as of 7 AM on the primary election day were 22,740, and the total number of persons voting at the primary election were 7,915. And I have to confirm this, but I think perhaps that may be our largest primary election that we've held. So I'll confirm that with you and get back to you on that. But that confirms the two candidates that will move forward to the general election would be Sharon Christensen and Emily M. Anton. Thank you.

Thank you, Mayor. I'll be quick, but I do want to take the opportunity to thank Clerk Friedrich and her team. They did amazing work. This was a tougher than normal primary, and we heard from a lot of concerned residents. that they wanted to make sure that it was a fair and inclusive election, and it was, and so I just want to thank her. It was a lot of long hours, so a lot of professionalism and knowledge, so thank you.

I will say that it takes an entire city, residents, different departments, administration to complete a whole election administration. And we have a fabulous city that really participates and comes forward when needed. So thank you.
