I am here to talk about the Flock cameras. I am a retired Air Force officer. I moved here in 2018 when I left the active service in the Air Force to join the Iowa Air National Guard, where I was an anti-drug fighter for five years. We have carried out support missions to the DEA, the FBI, the ATF, to the local law enforcement forces and to the state law enforcement forces throughout the country. We have worked on multiple files here in Des Moines. On our planes, we obviously had cameras for surveillance, and the police also used post cameras to target specific suspects. We had to obtain an authorization to use these post cameras, and as soon as the surveillance was over, the camera was removed. It is different from the flock cameras that are always on, always watching and collecting information, unlike the cameras on boats and our surveillance cameras targeting criminals. These flock cameras collect information about us all and store it for further use. And you cannot guarantee that the federal government, or whoever is in charge at this time, will not be able to access it or that this information will not become public. There is therefore a lot of concern on my part and on the part of many people. I suppose that one of the positive aspects of the controversy over the Flock cameras is that they bring us together beyond the political chessboard.
