Public Safety Committee - Regular Meeting

I'm gonna call the meeting to order. Roll call, we have all commissioners present. Public comment, there's nobody here, nobody online. Consent agenda, are there any corrections to the minutes at all? Okay. Then we have the police department monthly report.

Yeah, so I reviewed the monthly reports. A little bit of a fall in calls for service from June 25 compared to June 26. We're roughly 300-400 down. As well as calls for service, we're right around, let's say, 500 below what we were at in 2025 at this point in the year. Charges year-to-date, very consistent, 136 in June of 25, 135 in June of 26. OWIs last month, we had a total of seven. Are there any other questions or concerns that you gentlemen have?

Fire Department? Yeah, in reviewing ours, we're pretty much right on... pace with where we are last year. Nothing jumps out. Fire calls were up a little bit last month. Total call volume is also up just a little bit from the prior year if you compare the months. But it's nothing that, either way that jumps on at us. So it's always just a steady year plan that we're getting a little busier every year as far as that goes.

Want to speak to building?

Sure, yes. So building inspection, in reviewing that data, that was put out obviously this time of year is construction time so I know permits and projects are up over the last month or two and I know I reviewed this a couple we'll say a week ago but it also looks like our be a little bit busier, a little bit more, we'll call it value as well as projects, maybe a little bit further ahead than last year. But it all depends on how the rest of the year goes. They started that new dig for the credit union? Yes, you're talking out on the end of Waldo and kind of Bayshore Drive. Yeah, the credit union. So yeah, that started, that is, let's see, I believe that's in here what the value of that was. Yep, so that's a big project. Otherwise, on Menashe Avenue, there's another storage unit going up there. um and i think like another big one that just came across our bigger project is the remodel of the old office max building um two they're actually going to be splitting the building um it is going to be i think pet smart and five five five as i say five under five below which is like a dollar general type uh yeah type of store, I guess. That's how it was explained to me.

Whatever. I read someplace that there's been several brush fires that seem to be caused by fossil training.

Yeah, we've had... I couldn't give you the exact number, but I know Probably approaching half a dozen because it's been a dry year. Out on that West Custer area where, I don't know if you've ever heard of Extra Tech Plastics, kind of where Jagerman, Stamping, things like that, the rail line runs through there. And I know they have some grass fires, vegetation type fires after a train goes through there. I think they just had another one last week. That's what it appears. They get called in pretty quick. There's nothing, I know when we go out there, nothing out of the ordinary that would lead us to think that someone is intentionally setting those fires.

Yes, we concluded our lieutenant's promotional testing process, which involves a written test and an assessment center, which is kind of a tactical scenario, some interview questions, and a presentation, and then as well as a an administration, meaning chief and assistant chief review. And we finished that process with these, the three names listed on this list as passing. And I would like this list to be moved forward or approved good for, I put it the 2027 promotional results. So normally our testing process is every two years. And because we had two Lieutenant retirements, and our last list was exhausted. We ran a test this year in the off year. So to stay on that two-year cycle, we will be holding another lieutenant's test next year, which would be the spring of 27. So I would like this list good until that testing process results are finalized.

So are you okay with 18 months if someone makes it?

Yeah, that would be fine. Yes, 18 months would be fine.

Yeah, thank you. We recently had patrol officer interviews for a vacancy that we have. I would like two names to be added to our list, if possible, for a time period of 12 months. The two individuals that I would request to be added are Luke Kelly and Lucas Kowalik.
