The Transportation Board discussed the North Road and Urban Street intersection four-way stop evaluation, which was prompted by a pedestrian fatality. The board approved the implementation of an all-way stop at the intersection, which has already been deployed as a temporary measure, with permanent installation pending utility line locates and additional striping. The board also received updates on various public works projects, including the Finch Street Extension and the Trinity Drive Safety and ADA Improvements Project.

All right, it's 530. Call on the meeting to order. Are there any corrections or suggestions on the agenda? All right, the agenda's approved unanimously. And with that, we're to our first and only presentation.
Thank you, Mr. Chair. Deputy Director Keith Wilson is out these next two weeks. So Mr. Tim Walker Foster, our Traffic and Streets Manager, is going to present our topic today regarding the urban and North Road intersection. So without further ado, and of course, I'm here to assist with answering any questions, and so is Eric Ulibarri, our County Engineer. So without further ado, Mr. Walker Foster.

Thank you. This is the presentation for the North Road-Urban Street intersection all-way stop evaluation. Okay, this is a background slide, basically details how we got here. It begins with the unfortunate pedestrian fatality on March 15, 2026. It led to a citizen petition to consider making an intersection a four-way stop. And just a note from this point forward in the presentation, we'll consider it an all-way stop is how the MUTCD describes it. Met again with the council on April 7th. We were directed to investigate research and return recommendation within 90 days. So we've been working on data collection and analysis. We've completed that. We've made recommendations regarding a implementation solution. Obviously we're here now today on June 4th at the transportation board. And then our next meeting is at the council again on June 23rd. So the existing conditions for the intersection, we have crossroad intersection with two-lane approaches. Urban Street runs east-west and is 33 feet wide. North Road runs north-south and is 40 feet wide with both bike and parking lanes. There's stop control on North Road with cross traffic does not stop plaques currently. Marked crosswalk on east approach of Urban Street and across both approaches on North Road. Next slide. Bus services. Atomic City Transit Route 4 runs north and south along North Road with stops on either side of the intersection. Buses run every 30 minutes between 6.18 a.m. and 7.18 p.m. There's also an L.A. school public school route. One for middle school students has a morning pickup at 8.13 on the northeast corner of the intersection. What was observed is five to six students wait for the bus in the morning, and in the afternoon, around three to four students are dropped off in the afternoon. This is our snow and ice control maps. So as you can notice on the star on the diagram on the left, they are both considered priority ones, both considered collector streets, which is one of the few collector on collector intersections we have within the county. And on the map on the right details that it's on a safe route to school map. So that's considered a safe route. This one's a lot of information on one slide. So this is our traffic volume. So this is actually what we picked up during our traffic counts. So the graphic shows turning movement and volumes and pedestrian crossings. So it's noted that there's the AM peak, school and also the PM peak, and those are all denoted separately on the counts. If you notice that the numbers, straight numbers, are just the AM peak, the bracketed, or the parentheses, I'm sorry, are the midday, and the bracketed are the PM peak. And so those give all the vehicle counts in each direction and during time of day. The red numbers also are noted that those are pedestrian crossings.

Okay, so for the p.m. peak hour from 1600 to 1700, it's not much less than the hour from 17 to 1800, where close to 300 vehicles are going through the intersection. During this peak, around 66% of the traffic is using urban street westbound and north road southbound approaches. And again, for pedestrian activity, the busiest times are from 7 to 9 and from 1600 to 1900, so 4 o'clock to 7 o'clock. On April 15th, a total of 174 pedestrians crossed urban and north at the intersection between 6 and 7 p.m. 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sixteen pedestrians crossed the urban crosswalk during this time as well. Next slide. This is the crash history. This details all the crash history between January 1st, 2019 and March of 2026. So as you can tell, There's roughly one crash a year with one fatality, three injuries, four property damage only. The direction arrows indicate the type of crash, and most of them are angle or T-bone crashes if you look at the intersection. Inclement weather does not seem to be a factor in these crashes. With seven of the crashes occurring in clear and dry conditions, the 2019 crash occurred under rain and wet conditions.
again seven of the eight crashes were angular t-bone type crashes um mr chair i'll just add also on this slide um you may notice that there's a a date stamp associated with each of the crash diagrams on the intersection um and just an observation it was noticed that uh most of the crashes were were at the first quarter of the year um i'm not sure what that presents necessarily but just an interesting observation that we made during this process.
Okay, next slide. Okay, this is speed data. The graphics are a little tough to read on the slide, but the highlights include speed limit is 25 miles an hour through here. Three percent of the vehicles were going five miles per hour or greater above the speed limit to the west of the intersection and five percent to the east of the intersection. The 85th percentile speed is 27 miles an hour. and 28 miles an hour with 10 mile per hour pace speed. Range where most of the drivers are going is between 19 to 28 miles an hour. The highest speed observed was 50 and 54 miles per hour. You can see those on the graph. So both of our cameras ended up capturing the same vehicle at 8.53 on April 24th. So we're considering that one an outlier and a really fast driver. Okay, next slide please. Site distance. This is where we took an evaluation to determine site distance to see whether or not the 85th percentile speed kind of met up with along where the drivers could reasonably expect to be able to see them. So the red triangles are set to 25 miles per hour. The blue is set to 30 miles an hour, which is closer to the 27 and 28 mile per hour, 85th percentile of the speed of travel.
And I'll just add that table that you see in the lower left corner has to do with our, it's essentially our design guide that we utilize as transportation engineers that governs how we design routes, essentially.
So as a note, there's no site distance concerns at these speeds currently. to be able to travel that distance, to be able to see the vehicle reasonably oncoming. Oh, sorry.

Could that be restated? I wanted an elaboration on what those triangles mean, and I was also interested in what's the time that is used for traveling that distance.
So the distances are set apart by the tables themselves. I'd have to go back and look to verify how the time is calculated, but it has to be based on the miles per hour that the distance traveled. But yeah, those are established tables. I assume those are straight out of the MUTCD Astro Green Book. Apologies. Yeah. And again, they were overlaid with the worst possible scenario of 30 miles an hour given the 85th percentile, which led to... at least theoretically, no concerns by the guide design books.
And not to get too much into the weeds of the design guide, but this is essentially governed, this is our check of what establishes what should be proper site distance based on current design guides, so.
Okay, next. Next is site distance north road southbound. So at 25 miles per hour, site distance is met, but site line is filled with clutter from shrubs, trees, and old signage frame. And you can kind of see that in the picture that's inlaid in the slide. At 30 mile per hour, site distance is marginally met with a large tree on the right edge of the site triangle. So on the far right side of that picture.
And one of the reasons we're also just looking at 30 miles an hour is given that there's Some traffic that travel between 25 and 30. So it's just kind of a data point for us to look at as well to see if, you know, if those site distance triangles meet current guidelines. And like Mr. Walker Foster mentioned, you know, there's some shrubbery on that northwest corner that makes the site distance here a little bit marginal. Um, there's also a great issue with, with, uh, urban going uphill in that, at that intersection, that kind of, even if it's low line vegetation, it makes it a little challenging. Um, and that picture there that, uh, that, uh, um, they're in the upper part of the slide kind of illustrates that a little bit.
And just to help adjust that getting ahead a little bit, I guess, but we are looking to contact the property owner to research, uh, cutting down some of the shrubbery and removing some of the obstacles right now. All right, this is the METCD warrants. This is basically the guide that kind of determines whether or not a stop sign is warranted at this intersection or not. There's five different warrants. We evaluated each one to make that determination. A lot of it is focused on engineering judgment. So unlike a signal, which has to meet all the warrants, this one focuses a lot on engineering judgment. So we just wanted to make that clear. Okay, so warrant A is based on crash experience. And so if you look at the red the red below basically eight crashes reported in seven and a quarter years one crash in the last one to two month period four crashes in the last 36 month period so that right there does not meet the warrant currently given next slide eric so this one site distance so on the north So site distance on North Road southbound approach is met for 25 mile per hour speed limit, but at the 85th percentile is where it becomes a bit marginal. So this one could be met based on engineering judgment.

Warrant C, this is in regards to transition to signal control or transition to yield control at a circular intersection. So this is more or less a roundabout scenario. So operations do not necessitate the installation of a traffic signal. or circular intersection. Warrant not met. This is warrant D. This involves eight-hour volume vehicles, pedestrians, bicycles. We don't come anywhere near close to exceeding 300 vehicles per hour from the major street, so that'd be in urban. No hours of the day exceed 200 vehicles per hour from the minor, which is North Road, so we do not meet that warrant either. And finally, warrant E. This involves other factors. So North Road and Urban Road act as collector streets. So as I mentioned previously, they are both collectors and are similar design and operating characteristics. So their traffic loads are pretty similar. So the warrant could be met in this instance.
And just to add to that, it basically means, you know, when we talk about similar design characteristics, Um, and then we call North road in urban, both collector streets, um, which means they're designed, um, and function in much of the same way. Um, as opposed to like a residential street, which is, you know, uh, a smaller road collecting, uh, residential traffic, uh, all that res residential traffic goes to a collector street, which is North road in urban and then collector streets eventually. gather traffic and take it to an arterial street like Diamond Drive. And so that's kind of the hierarchy of how roadways are classified. So in this case, and what this criteria means is that there's two collector streets, similar character, similar design that are intersecting together. And that's how that's evaluated and the intent of what that warrant is. All right.
Next slide. This is our summary of all five warrants. Basically, we meet two out of the five warrants, B and E. So with engineering judgment, installation of an all-stop control can be considered at this point, given the criteria. Next slide, please. These are some of the concepts that we considered. Basically, similar to the current configuration, it has the advanced warning stop signs, which are not there now. It also includes the painted medians there on Urban Street.

This is the next option considered. This includes an always stop with advance warning signs in each direction.

This is our recommended configuration. So this includes advance stop warning signs, stop signs each at all way directions, as well as placketing underneath. And then we also included the new MUTD signage, which includes new traffic pattern ahead, which are the outlying diamonds there. So our next steps. I don't know if anyone's been out there as early as yesterday, but we worked on the medians, painting the medians. The temporary stop signs are up as of today. Actually, as of yesterday afternoon, stop bars are in all locations. And we have everything posted as shown on that last diagram. Some other things we are doing. Oh, sorry. We're also working with the University of Nevada. Manesh got us in contact with a gentleman from UNR, University of Nevada, Reno, that worked with a faculty member that specializes in LIDAR technology. And so they're looking at bringing that to traffic applications and safety metrics. So urban and north intersection is being used to test the system. So we tested that out actually last week. They've also put the system up on Canyon and Diamond Drive as well to collect data. And they're expecting to have some of that data available as early as next week for evaluation. And with that, we'll leave it up for questions.
Mr. Chair, before we get to questions, I'll just touch on a little bit more of what Mr. Walker-Foster mentioned. So the recommended option, like he mentioned, is already deployed. We're currently waiting on utility line locates so that we can complete the installation with permanent signposts. So once those are in, which we expect maybe around Monday, we hope those Those temporary sign supports that are out there now will turn into a signpost, and it'll look more like a permanent installation rather than temporary. We're also working on some additional striping at the intersection, and that'll be forthcoming as well. So we've taken that recommendation, that recommended option, and we've already deployed it. A press release was also sent out yesterday, I believe, yesterday, right? Yesterday afternoon. And to announce that so I'm not sure if if folks have seen that already, but I just wanted to make that known Thank you. Mr. Chair.
Thank you First a few comments So during the summer, there's a lot of soccer field hockey rugby practice in urban and what I noticed is at those times there's much higher pedestrian and car volumes so at those times it's it's a more critical to have a safe intersection. And we only evaluated like one day in April so far. So I'm wondering with the rare occurrence of crashes and a short evaluation upfront, How can we compare that to the effect of the intersection or the improvements that we're testing right now later on? Is this sufficient data or what are the metrics to see if it's successful?
Thank you for the question. So we've actually been out there observing the new configuration today just to observe drivers. Definitely I think a little bit of a learning curve so far is what we've evaluated. We've actually asked LAPD to help us monitor the situation as well at the intersection to just make sure everyone's coming to a complete stop at the intersection. So I know Eric contacted the deputy chief, and they've already made a few citations as of today. So anyway, to answer your question, we have plans to bring out our cameras again to do some more evaluation to see how effective this solution is. We realize that it may not fix everything, but we want to make sure that we're evaluating to make sure it works the way we intend it. We definitely need to see if there are any improvements we can make beyond this if need be.
Another thing that I noticed yesterday, yesterday the paint was applied and in the evening the stop signs were only on the right side of the road. What I noticed is that quite a few cars ignored the stop signs and the painting. And today we have stop signs on the side, some warning signs, the stop sign on the median, the painted median. and the traffic cones, and that seemed to improve awareness dramatically. Now I'm wondering, will the stop signs in the middle of the road and the cones be there for the whole test period, Will it be taken away once the permanently installed stop signs?
Yeah, that's a temporary measure for now. We do want to keep monitoring the situation, like I mentioned. But, yeah, we just really wanted to make sure we garnered attention to the new stop signs there. So that's why they replaced there, just, again, with some concerns with the new traffic pattern.
But there will not be any poles or cones? Not currently, no. Okay.
And, again, it's more of an educational tool because it is a new condition. So it's intended to be temporary. Um, we did look at, uh, and considered, you know, something more permanent in that area, but as it stands right now, um, you know, because of the road does accommodate, uh, you know, uh, school and transit buses, uh, our refuse collection trucks, uh, and a lot of large delivery vehicles, uh, it needs that room. Um, so we didn't want to place something there permanently that, um, will, you know, create an obstacle for turning traffic.
I like having something in the middle of the median vertical structure because that tends to be like a way to communicate that people should slow down and also not drive over the median paintings. So I do like that.
It's just problematic because of the turning vehicles for the larger vehicles that do travel through there.
You did set it back a few feet from the intersection line to allow for that.
It is set back and they still utilize that space. So even if we at some point propose a raised island in there, that's something that we'd have to keep in mind because we are seeing larger vehicles tracking through that middle section. Yeah.
Um, I need to get some clarification. Uh, first of all, this is a temporary solution. Is that my understanding?
No, this is a permanent solution intended to be a permanent solution. Yes. And it will be evaluated, I guess, for just future, just to ensure that it's the right solution, I guess.
Okay. I guess that leads me into my next question is like, speaking of timelines or first of all, let me say like, thank you guys for doing this so quickly. I mean, I, Really appreciate it. I'm sure I belong to that neighborhood, so I'm grateful for it. My question is understanding the timeline. So the, you know, you presented it that we were supposed to receive this today, goes to council at the end of the month. However, there was a press release saying that it's already in the works and it will go into effect, what, next week or the week after. So can you help me understand that timeline a little bit?
No, it's implemented now. Okay. It's out there now.
I guess what I'm trying to say is I was under the impression that it would come to us and then we would bring it up the chain.
Yeah. Well, at the end of the day, it's an engineering decision. Okay. And so we made that decision to, because of the criteria, the engineering criteria that was met. Now there are judgment calls based on that. And it's really two physical characteristics related to that, to the warrant analysis that Mr. Walker Foster walked you through. One is the sight distance. There was some marginal, you know, Results that we took from that and the second was the warrant having to do with the intersection of two Roadways of similar characteristics. Okay, so that was enough for us to say up. It's it's it's needed We're going to implement this measure.

Yeah, thank you, Chair. I just had a couple questions, and I'd also like to echo that I'm actually grateful that this went ahead and moved forward and that it was determined that this was necessary to go ahead and proceed with. I wanted to know, I know Mr. Martinez said that there will be additional painting and striping in that area. Will that include a crosswalk on the west side? I noticed that there's just one crosswalk there. delineated. And I didn't know if, especially since there's a bus stop on the other side of the afternoon for students, if there would be another crosswalk painted in.
Mr. Chair, Member Connolly, yes, that's exactly what we're looking to implement. So thank you for the question. The other is to extend the painted curb on the north or on the south east corner just to keep vehicles from parking too close to the intersection, creating a little bit of a pinch point between through vehicles and parked vehicles. So that's another thing that we're going to also do.
Excellent. And then I wanted to ask, this is more just maybe it's something that we can talk about at the end of our meeting today, but if there's other intersections that you think might fit into the same scope of this, that we could be proactive or if there's other things that we need to be looking at so we don't have to have our young Girl Scouts bringing this to our attention or a tragic accident. I just thought I would advocate for that evaluation.
Thank you, Member Conley. That's actually something we did look at to see if we have kind of similar situations. And this one actually is a bit of a unique one. We do have similar roads that intersect like this. We have a couple of those in White Rock. But here in Townsite, it It kind of truly is more of a unique situation where you have a four-way, a four-legged intersection of two collector streets that intersect. So a bit unique to town site. But yes, we kind of use that lens to see, okay, is there anything, any others that kind of closely resemble a similar situation? So thank you for that question.
Yeah, and you said there's two locations that are similar in White Rock. Will those be, are you considering pursuing addressing those? Do they happen to include Bryce and Rover?
Actually, it's Grand Canyon and Sherwood and Grand Canyon and Rover, right?
Rover, yeah, I believe that.
And we do have some measures that we're looking to implement at Grand Canyon and Sherwood, I believe, right? Yeah. Yeah. So, and not exactly a four-way stop situation that we're looking at, but other kind of pedestrian controls, speed controls. I forget what we call them, Eric, traffic calming, but they're quick build traffic calming concepts at the intersections.
I would recommend, if I may, taking a look at Long Bryce. I know that I believe there's a deaf child sign along that way near the church area. And I have seen cars for years going well above 25 miles per hour on that street. And now that there's a little bit more increased public traffic, probably for Pinion Park Pool, because of the relationship with the county, I anticipate seeing an increase in that. And I just thought I would bring that up at this point.

Yeah. First, thank you for the presentation. I actually used to live at the corner right over there on 35th Street, so I know this intersection very, very well. Couple of my questions. You said that the striping for the actual crosswalks has already been done. Are they all going to be similar? Because I know that supposedly the different type of crosswalk striping gives different indications to the driver as to whether or not you can actually still turn when there are people left in the crosswalk and ones that you can't and all that. And I'm just curious as to which method or which design you guys are going with on that.
So I pulled up the slide there on the screen. What we're looking to do at this intersection, and it's going to, you know, not only because there's a legal crosswalk here. Sorry, I lost my cursor. But it also adds some target value for drivers that there's, you know, a stop controlled intersection. So it helps in kind of two respects. But what we're looking to do here is install two longitudinal lines similar to the other two legs and keep this what we call a continental type design because this crossing here is a safe routes to school scenario. And that's similar to other areas that we also have. PAYMENT MARKINGS OR LIKE PAYMENT MARKING AS WELL.
NEW SPEAKER ONE OF THE OTHER THINGS THAT I MAY WANT TO CONSIDER WITH THIS IS In terms of letting drivers know that this is new, because this is the way this intersection has been for the past 30 plus years, because I lived there back in 2000. So maybe possibly, if possible, putting in stoplights that have the flashing red light on there, even if they're potentially solar powered for temporary use. Just because I think that would signal drivers, this is new. I mean, the signs are great and everything, but I mean, if we're completely honest, about 50% of people might pay attention to the new signs. However, flashing red light saying this is a stop sign on the, where the, the new stop, I believe what the new stopping would be on urban. Um, so any of the stop signs that are facing urban have those flashing stop signs so that that draws the driver's attention that, Hey, this isn't a, you can't drive through this anymore without stopping anymore. Um, and then, you know, after, you know, if those stop signs go dead or, you know, whatnot, then we just replace it with a, with a regular stop sign. Cause by then theoretically, you know, people will be accustomed to it. Just something to consider. Um, The other question I had is this, just for my curiosity, do you know, is this crosswalk one, because it is part of the safer routes to school, is this one where the school has an actual person out there stopping traffic along urban during, you know, child delivery and child pickup? Because I know at Pinion they have it at not only the crosswalk that's right by the school, but they also have it at Grand Canyon and Sherwood. They have a crosswalk person there. So I'm not sure if that, I mean, granted, none of the accidents that were in this report happened during school hours, thank God. But just curious if that is potentially something else that could also help parents feel safer when, you know, during those times, if that's something that the school can do, if that's a main crossing area for students.
So, yeah, we had a discussion about that. Thank you for the question. We were discussing that internally also to see whether they had a crossing guard. We do not believe at this time that they do, but it's definitely a good idea. We'll talk about approaching the school with that and seeing what we can do there.

All right. I just have a couple. Back to White Rock, those temporary features which were discussed a while ago, the easy ones to set up, I believe were bulb outs, either paint or delineators or something. And are those being considered for this intersection at all?
Um, Mr. Chair, not at this time. Um, you know, although there is a little bit of room in there, uh, the, the, uh, painted median configuration, um, tightens that up a little bit. Um, so, and that was intentional. That was to bring attention and some traffic calming effect the same way a bulb out does. Um, but this was, uh, uh, kind of an easier method to achieve that same goal. result. And so it tightens that up a little bit, helps calm traffic, also provides some target value for drivers that, hey, there's something going on at this intersection. And so it brings some attention to now there's a bit of a change condition there.
Thank you. And the other thing is, so I'd be interested in hearing more about what additional data we'll be able to collect with the LIDAR.
We're interested to see as well. Again, we'll be able to have some data for this intersection as early as mid-next week. And so once we get that, we will definitely help share the results with that.
And will that data be available to the public? Because you know how our people like to get a hold of it and do their own analysis. And I'm sure you guys appreciate that.
Mr. Chair, we'll see what that looks like. But we'll certainly... would be open to doing a presentation to TBORD and let you all know what are the results of that and how that might look for us. As far as future data collection, you know, is it helpful? Is it providing more than what we already do? That sort of thing.
I know we've provided some data previously on other roadways through IPRA as well, so I know we have provided some traffic counts. There is that avenue. I don't think I mentioned earlier also just to mention, but for vehicle, pedestrian, bicycle counts, we conducted those between April 15th and 19th in April. And also the speed data was collected from April 20th through April 27th. I'm not sure I mentioned that earlier. So just to let you know, got almost a couple of weeks of data in there. Thank you.
And I'll just add, Mr. Chair, that the collection of data you know, is something that we always wanted to see, you know, um, but that data didn't really necessarily influence, um, it helped determine if warrants were met, certainly. Um, but the, the warrants that were marginal sight distance and, um, similar character street characteristics are kind of outside that they're, they're more physical characteristics of the, of the intersection rather than the, the, the characteristics generated from the data, the data collection, if you will.

have a comment on. So the painted median and the bulb out try to achieve some similar goals for the cars, but they are different. So with the bulb outs, the crossing distance for the pedestrians shorten and pedestrians wait closer to the line of sight of the car, making them more visible. So I would argue for pedestrians and differently abled people, the bulb outs are a better solution than the painted median for those reasons. Quicker crossing and better visibility of the pedestrian. Just one dead end to the record. Thank you.
Thank you for that comment. And I just want to make some clarification that we do foresee that there's going to be some reconstruction needed with some of the ramps at these corners. And there's opportunities there at that time to be able to address some of these kind of more physical things. With regards to what is out there now, what was recommended, these were things that were easily implementable in a short period of time. And so think of it as short-term, and there's potential long-term improvements as well.
I live on 48th Street. Driving here, I just crossed the intersection, and it is noticeably calmer than last week. So I think there is a very noticeable immediate effect.
Alright, is there any public comment for this item? I know we have a Scott Kelly commented that we should have the initial results within the next couple of weeks from the site and he'd be happy to answer any questions about it if appropriate so. Beverly Neal Clinton, County Liaison, stepping in for Suzy Haverman. Thank you. very much for that because you guys knew we were going to be coming back to ask more questions. So we look forward to seeing you on the 23rd. I also appreciate how much work went into it because that was my greatest concern. I did not want us to rush the data without having thorough input. Thank you, Mr. Chair and board members. I'll just touch on a couple of things. One announcement is that we're going to be taking the Finch Street Extension project for recommendation of award to council on June the 9th. So hopefully we'll get a decision on that and be able to move forward on that project. If you're not aware of what the Finch Street Extension project is, it's the part of the street extension between the Los Alamos Medical Center and the 35th Street where the Hill Apartments are. and it's taking that street, extending it to Trinity Drive and basically relocating the entrance into the medical center from its current location to that new street connection. So that places it further to the east and further away from the Diamond Drive, Trinity Drive intersection, which will provide a much safer condition.
When will that presentation begin?
Um, I believe it was already presented to the transportation board, but, uh, it'll go to council on June the 9th for, for a recommendation for award. So it's toward the, the, the construction contract to the contractor so they can build the, the, uh, project. Okay. Thank you. Um, the next thing, uh, is, is that we're going to, uh, as you may recall, the, uh, Trinity, uh, Trinity Drive Safety and ADA Improvements Project has been awarded. We're working on rolling that out. There's going to be a public meeting coming up with that soon. I'm not sure if we have a date on that yet. I don't have a date. It's coming up within the next month.

Thank you, Ms. Romero. So June 16th here and we'll be inviting the adjacent business owners and doing some outreach there. And then I'm happy to announce that the rumble strips on New Mexico 502 have been installed. You can't tell that they're there unless you drive over them and they do work because I tested it. But thanks to Eric Ulibarri and Jennifer Morrow for working to get that project completed. Um, and, um, you know, it seemed like everything kind of went smoothly. The biggest challenge was to, because there's kind of only one contractor that does that kind of work was to get them here. That was the biggest challenge, but once they were here, they did a great job. So, and then, um, uh, we've been working to get some additional, uh, EV charging stations installed at Mesa public library. That project started, but then we took a little bit of a pause on it so that elections can be completed because there is a ballot box drop off at the library. So we wanted to keep that open and available to folks. So now that election's over for now, we're going to look to restart that project and get some EV chargers installed at the library. Speaking of EVs, our transit manager, James Borrella, and our fleet manager, Pete Mondragon, have been working this week to review the build of the EV buses that we're expecting hopefully later this month. And we're also working to install EV chargers for those buses so that once they're ready, once they're outfitted with the necessary equipment, get our drivers trained, everything will be ready to go with our EV buses, and we're looking to get two of them to the county. And then lastly, regarding transit, we recently sent out a press release regarding the ACT My Commute app, which will now help folks connect not just with ACT, but other regional transit uh, transit agencies, uh, you know, the blue bus, Santa Fe trails, park and ride, um, to, to allow, uh, folks to have a one-stop shop to plan their route. So kind of a neat tool that, uh, that our transit division was able to deploy. And I believe that is going to be deployed on Monday, the 8th, I believe. So, uh, and again, there's a press release that went on on that. So I want to thank them for their work on that. And Mr. Chair, that's it. If anyone has any questions or anything for me.

All right, I have a couple. So I've knocked a lot of doors recently, and I had a couple of questions. And public works questions were, I think people are very satisfied. Most of the questions affected other departments. But one of them was about White Rock, and they're curious what the timeline is going to be on those crosswalk or improvements or bulb outs and whatever they're going to be.
apologies we have slurry seal currently scheduled for Grand Canyon in July and so we were looking to potentially do some some tracking and just some evaluation first do the slurry seal and then come back and follow with the implementation of the the traffic calming after that thank you that sounds great and the other one was more for local businesses like Smith
Anyway, so one of the recommendations was that some of the local businesses install stop signs coming out of the parking lots. So I just wanted to pass that along. Any more questions or comments?

I just wanted to thank everybody. I work downtown with Main Street, as you know, and I noticed an immediate difference in driver response at the pedestrian crossings on Central. They're so bright and vivid. I don't know. I think it's just really important to recognize that that was accomplished quickly and that the wayfinding signs are popping up all over the place. I was looking through your report. Mr. Martinez, I'm just really impressed with all the things that you guys have been working on. I know there's a lot. I also appreciated the opportunity to walk with Eric Martinez down Central and discuss potential opportunities for continued pedestrian improvement along Central and I just thought that you had some great ideas, and I hope that this committee gets to see some of those be realized in the near future, I think, especially where Oppenheimer and Central are located. So those are my comments.
Mr. Chair and Member Conley, thank you for that. I should have also mentioned that we did a recent change to the crosswalk at the Oppenheimer and the central intersection where we were able to, our traffic crews were able to bring those signs further in and a lot more noticeable, uh, because of the wide radii of the curb around there. Uh, they were a little set back, uh, but now they're brought in closer to the crosswalk. So it makes them much, much more noticeable. Um, so I want to thank our crews. They've been, we have a crew of four guys that do all this work that paints and install signs, install wayfinding. They've been quite busy these last couple weeks, and they work in Tim's shop. So a big shout out to them for all the work that they're doing right now. It's amazing what they do.
