Are you supposed to laugh a little bit? Anyway, we're very happy. Also, we want to congratulate Rodney in 30 years. I think we discussed it briefly in the workshop, and that's impressive stuff. So, Rodney, very good job. I know the chief probably wants to say a few more, but you've done a heck of a job. Thank you. So Chief, you here tonight? Yes, sir. Ball game got canceled, and we're here. And Kyle's smiling, and the Chumlee girls are smiling. And the Rockets are going to win tomorrow, right?

OK. Come on up here, Rodney. All right, for those of you that don't know, this is Deputy Chief Rodney Cox. When I first started at this department, he was one of my training officers. and didn't really know him that well. Come to find out he's from Pittsfield. My wife's from Pittsfield, so of course I gotta make fun of him because they talk like a bunch of hicks. He writes really, really well, but if you talk to him, just ask the press. They were there talking to him today. He doesn't make much sense sometimes, but. He's going to be sadly, sadly missed. The amount of institutional knowledge that we're going to lose this Friday is going to be insurmountable. That's one of the reasons that I've had Deputy Chief, well, soon to be Deputy Chief Chumley working with him for the amount of time I've had him working with him. I wanted to try and get as much information as we could from Rodney. The good part is we also know that he will be there ultimately to make a phone call and he will 100% support us and help us. So due to all of this, I am presenting Rodney with a appreciation of 30 years of dedicated service plaque. This is one of the things that we started doing when I became chief and I met with Rodney and Matt, we wanted to make sure we recognize our 20, 25 and 30 year employees because that's a lot of time. They've devoted more of their time to this city of Jacksonville than they've probably been alive. The older you get, the less time that happens, but most of us are not, yes, most of us are not Rodney's age. So with that, I would like to present this plaque.

We have 10 minutes carved out, Rodney, so please take your time. And Chief, what town are you from? Okay. I had to help you out there, Rodney, okay? Thank you. Oh, then it's a great town. All right, I already kind of talked a little bit about Kyle.

As many of you know,

He's been a detective for our agency for about 16 years. He started out patrol, became an investigator. Then from investigations, he then took over the investigative unit after I was promoted to deputy chief. He has done a phenomenal job at that. Everything he's done since he's been here has been geared for this position, even though He never wanted this position. He didn't want to get promoted. He just did it because he felt like that was the right way to do things for the agency. Once he was able to have this position, I knew this is where I was going to want to place him if he would accept it. No offense to Matt. I actually asked Kyle first if he would take Matt's job. And he said, no, he would not. He wanted this position. Matt did not know that until right now. So he's learning this for the very first time that I approached Kyle first.

With that, I would appreciate your guys' vote, and I thank you for your vote and confidence in the selection of Kyle Chumley for the deputy chief position, replacing Deputy Chief Rodney Cox. With that, I'd like for his wife and family to come up here to get his new badge.

You got him. I do want to say something. I'm getting my time. I'm going to yield my time to me. First off, I want to thank you guys. I don't think Alderman, I think it's a thankless job. We get told that all the time. I think you guys have a thankless job. So thank you for everything you do. Not everybody agrees with it. It kind of mirrors us. But you do what you have to do thinking it's the right thing. So thank you to everybody up here. I was asked today, what am I looking forward to doing? And it's just to be better. We have a great city. We have a great police department. We have all these young guys that I have no idea their names. But they want to do this job. They want to do it in this city. And it's our job, Doug, and everybody up, is to encourage them. They know our city's great, and we owe it to our citizens who are good people. So thank you guys very much.

You know, he said the aldermen have a hard job. This is the easiest job you have all night, right here, this vote, correct? Because we've got to make it official.

So, yeah.
