Veterans Advisory Commission - Regular Meeting

Mike had asked a few questions about Veterans Day and us, obviously, we're starting to plan for that. From our nomination form, we've only received one nomination And at this

we actually all got a chance to look over that at our off-site planning meeting.

Oh, good.

And all of us were impressed with write up that was sent in and the nomination that was sent in. And we are definitely all in favor of moving forward with that one.

Alright. So I did speak with the mayor today, and and he we you know, we're figuring this all out as we go along. So as an advisory board, I can take that back and say, are advising that that's who we should Yes. Nominate. So and he will then do what he does. Perfect. Yeah. The other thing is changes to Veterans Day. Last year, we made a few significant changes not significant, a few changes. Mhmm. We took out any, you know, taps playing, all that kind of stuff. We do the flag passing ceremony at Veterans Day. We had a guest speaker last time. Now, in the past, we've done guest speakers. We've not done guest speakers.

My rule of thumb is if we don't try to fit a guest speaker in if we don't have a guest speaker. But if there's somebody, it is the fiftieth anniversary of the end of Vietnam. It would be wonderful if we could get somebody come to speak about Vietnam or their experience. When we say speak, we're talking five minutes. So it's not super long. We do not have budgets to pull in national speakers or anything like that. So I don't know if you guys have any suggestions of somebody local or localesque who may be a good speaker that we could reach out to.

We can definitely discuss that. I think we have somebody on the commission who might know a couple of Vietnam era veterans.

It's possible. And then the rest, we do have already the choir. Green High School, I think their acapella choir is coming. We'll have them do the national anthem. But since they are there, especially if we don't have a speaker, we'll probably have them do a few other songs. Okay. Whatever's in their rep.

Yeah. And we definitely owe a huge thank you to to Bob and his team for the support they gave us there. That was that was great.

Eric is his number two, isn't he?

Yep. And they're gonna have a meeting, October 30 at their VFW. I was gonna go to that Okay. And just relate to them that we appreciated their Perfect. Effort and help. They don't have any booze there, so I guess it's okay. Yeah.

They said you can go downstairs to the VFW bar, though, and you can get stuff there. Perfect. Let's see here. Any other new business from anyone? Well,

old business, new whatever. The Chamber of Commerce, the meeting they invited us to the meeting, so it's November 7 at 07:45 to nine in the Taroque Building. Right? Community Building? So they're more than happy to help us, so we just need our sign that we're thinking to put in the window, which Hirga's working on. You still working on it? So we'll have that to present to them, so we'll do a real quick little thing of what we're thinking and hopefully get their help to talk to the businesses in the area for that. Perfect.

Just a reminder for some of the commission members, your term expires December 31 of this year. If you wish to continue, please send a letter of interest to mayor's office, letting them know that you, wish to continue, to be considered, as a reappointee. If there is not a desire to continue, send an email, you know, to the mayor letting him know that that

I want to let everybody here know that on October 25, which is a Saturday morning, are we having our volunteer, breakfast and that all of you are invited and anyone in our community who's, you know, served the city as a volunteer. So that includes our boards and commissions. So I just wanted to extend that invitation to you.
