Council - Regular Meeting
The Florence City Council held a special meeting to consider applying for an ASPCA grant. The grant, if awarded, would provide $35,000 to equip a suite at the animal shelter for a contracted veterinarian, allowing for free spay/neuter services for shelter animals and low-cost services for community pets.

Here.
All right. Madam President, five council members are in attendance and a quarter is pressed.
I'm here.
Oh, I'm sorry. I got you.
Okay, thank you. We have one item on the agenda, and at this time, we'll ask Ms. Sherrill if you want to come in briefly. Sherrill, because everybody already has it, you'll just bring it.
Yes, thank you. So thank you for this specially called meeting. Yes, as you know, I want to apply for the ASPCA grant to equip the suite at the shelter with spandex equipment. to host a contracted vet that Thistle Pet Foundation through their Fix the Future program will pay for at no cost to us. This program will allow us to fix shelter dogs at no cost, but also to fix community animals that we can charge $25 per cat, $35 per dog that we keep that money. So that grant application requires the council's approval. And the grant window was only open for a few weeks. And Bissell will contact the ASPCA once we apply and tell them that they will partner with us. You may or may not remember, but Bissell Pet Foundation is who helped us partner with other shelters who came down and took the majority of the $191 from the cruelty case from the shelter. So we have a wonderful working relationship with Bissell Pet Foundation.
Okay, good. And this is a no-match?
No. No, it's a match from us required.
Okay, good deal. All right, do I hear a motion for immediate consideration? Okay, we have a question.
If this is approved and we're able to get this grant, how much money are we looking at?
We are applying for $35,000, which will buy the equipment that we need for the suite, tables, lights, oxygen concentrator, autoclave, those kind of things.
And what's the timeline? That's my question.
So they will send out notices around the 1st of August, and then the final grantees will know October 21st.
Okay, thank you. Are there any additional questions or comments? Can I get a motion for consideration? Motion.
Second.
Motion by Ms. King, second by Mr. Bowling. All in favor of the motion? Do you have a motion for the adoption? So moved. I have a motion from Mr. Henry, second from Mr. Spence. Any discussion? All in favor of motion?
5-0.
Now may I have a motion to adjourn?
Motion.
There is motion to adjourn. Thank you.
Thank you. Chair, thank you.
