City Council - Regular Meeting

Let me call to order the 1,904th meeting of the Deer Park City Council. We're going to open up with our invocation by Councilman Georgette Ford and the Pledge of Allegiance by Councilman Tommy Ginn.

If you'd all bow with me in prayer, please, Father God. Thank you so much for this evening. Thank you for the honors that we get to bestow on our staff, on this great team. And we ask you to bless Deer Park, God, to help us with discernment, to make the decisions that are good for you, that keep Deer Park as a quality of life that we know and love, God. We ask you to continue to be with us each and every week as we go on about the business and to continue. to reap your rewards all on your part, God. It's in your holy name that we pray. Amen. Amen.

I'm going to make my way down. Apparently, we got some wranglers in the room tonight. Is there anybody that belongs to them? Yeah, some of the coaches reluctantly. Well, they must have done pretty good if y'all are here tonight. You going to tell us about why y'all are here?

Yeah, absolutely. Well, first of all, we really appreciate y'all giving us the opportunity to come. The boys worked super hard this year. So the World Series that they won was a World Series in Dallas through an organization called USSS. They went up there. They had worked hard all season. I think this was the ninth tournament of the year for the season. We started all the way back in March. And so been working hard for a while. This was early June. So we started out really strong, won two out of the first three tournaments on the season, and then kind of hit a little bit of a lull through the middle of it. Won a lot of games, but couldn't get over the hump of the championship again until we went up to Dallas. And they just clicked from the beginning. We went 6-0 on the weekend. I don't remember the exact numbers now, but outscored opponents somewhere in the range of 70 to about 15, 65 to 15, somewhere around there over six games. So lights out defense, smacked the ball all weekend. 6-0, won the World Series. It was in the 8U AA Division. So there was teams from all over the state of Texas. And so had a great time. And it was really fun to see all their hard work pay off in that. and that win at the end of the season. So this is Philip Blake. We got several back here that have just decided that they're not, yeah, I think so too. So we got over here on the end, we got Caleb Cummins. I definitely need the guy over here in the black hat. Come on, come on. Along with myself and fellow Deer Park alum right here. So Zach, this is Zach Schatzner, Coach Zach. So we played eight-U coach pitch. And so Zach pitched for us all season and did a phenomenal job. I mean, just he knew exactly where all the kids liked the pitch. Nice coach pitch. Yeah, truly, truly. He was the best pitcher that we saw from a coach all season. So, I mean, the kids did the work, but Zach was a big part of it. And being able to put it where they wanted it and really helped maximize their talents and help them do the best that they can. Sure. So, why don't you all get in the line instead of like a mob. Make this a little bit easier. All right, we'll just go down the list. So this is Oliver White. Oliver played first base for us. This is Beckett Blake. Beckett played outfield. Next we got Carson Styron. Carson played third base. Romeo Rodriguez. Romeo played second base. Gunner Day. Gunner played outfield. Jules Escobedo also played outfield. Braxton Cummins. Braxton played all over the place fourth. Played outfield, played a little bit of infield. He was everywhere. Jackson, Sheck Snyder was our shortstop. Barrett Blake, I'm not sure what that is.

I mean, Barrett Smith, sorry.

Barrett Smith, I'm sorry. Barrett was our catcher this year, and then Noah Garza on the end. Noah played pitcher for us. So it was a fun season. Kids got to play different positions, but at the World Series, that's where they ended up for the most part. So played great. It was a lot of fun.

You're making me feel old because I remember when you were that age, Gallien. I kind of remember it. Yeah. You were the stud, or you thought you were. Yeah. Yeah. I like to regret it a little bit. I like to still think that. It was awesome. You did. You came here. This is not your first time. You've been here before. You've been here before. Well, that must be terrible. You couldn't win it so much, and you wouldn't have to come back here. I wouldn't. Okay, guys. So tell me one thing your coach likes to tell you guys when it's a close game and y'all need to pull some runs. What do you tell them? What does Coach like to tell you?

All right, so you know the one thing, everybody, all the parents want pictures.

So I will get in trouble if we don't get pictures, okay? I know y'all got some pictures up there.

So come on, let's get around and get all the pictures done. And let's get some pictures. But everybody can stand up.

Okay, let's see. I know, and that's why I'm grateful that that's not happening. They're like, oh, man. I believe I coached Zach. I think he was incoming freshman year. on the Mickey Mantle team. He could throw the ball. He shortstop it well. Y'all keep moving. Everybody get back to where you were. Thank y'all for coming. Oh my goodness. I know. Just the volume. It reminds me of first grade. It's a lot like that. It's like being at home. It's wonderful, though. But it is wonderful.

Item number five, consideration of an action on a resolution to seek and to receive the funds if awarded at the fiscal year 2027, a DWI step mobilization waived grant. Mr. Fox.

Resolution authorizing approval for an application agreement between the City of Newport, Texas and the State of Texas Department of Highway and Transportation in the amount of $13,420, I'm sorry, $442.08. Okay. to conduct a staff-providing, while intoxicated, mobilization program directed at impaired driving enforcement to be administered by the police department.

Resolution of the City Council of the City of Deer Park, Texas, requesting financial assistance from the City Water Development Board, authorizing the filing of the application for such assistance, designated an authorized representative, and making certain findings in connection therewith.
