Good. I'd like to call our meeting to order. If everyone would please stand and join me in the Pledge of Allegiance.

As a recipient of federal funds and in support of different counties' efforts to ensure non-discrimination and equal access to all citizens, the county gathers statistical data regarding participants and county activities. Therefore, we have provided a voluntary Title VI public involvement survey at this meeting. You are not required to complete the survey. However, the form is anonymous and will be used solely for the purpose of monitoring our compliance with Title VI and ADA. The purpose of the meeting today is to have a public hearing on the county's 2027 budget. Motion to open. So we've got 10 minutes. Is there a second?

SO AT THIS POINT, PUBLIC COULD MAKE ANY COMMENT ABOUT THE BUDGET AS... YEAH.

YOU CAN ASK QUESTIONS, MAKE COMMENTS. I've never known them to show up in my 21st budget hearing. Have you ever had the public come and say anything at this meeting? I think compared to a lot of other counties, our tax rate is relatively low. You know, small. A lot of that's the blessing because of other revenue sources. For instance, the max you can do as a county on a lit is 2.5. Ours is 1.4. In some counties, because of special legislation, they're up to 2.9. And that's the thing, like in 29, when they do that new structure, because their aim is trying to... get the legislature to reduce the county's portion and up the municipal part. To me, all the legislation needs to do is for them to say the municipal rate is 1.2, and just like the people who have the 2.9, whatever the exception that caused that legislation, back it on to the municipal people. Say, okay, you've got these bonds, or you've got this whatever, so you're allowed to go, is there a 1.2? You can go to 1.5 or whatever. And they do that special legislation, so I don't see why you would... take the counties down to accommodate seven, there's like seven or nine municipalities that are saying they can't do one.

Go ahead and talk about RIFS assistance. So we've done an additional, we met with Dennis Pack then. We did an additional appropriation for an assistant for maintenance, because you know Mark is not in, so Rick needs some help. And Rick is going to, Eric, whatever you call him, is going to retire February 1. So you're going to need an assistant anyway. So we've got enough money for an additional, we did an additional appropriation. to fill that for the end of the year so they can train with him. And we just need everybody's okay to do that.

So that'll be on our, we'll have a budget adoption on the 16th.

You'll actually vote on it, but we'd like to go ahead and... If you guys are in favor of it, we'll go ahead and start advertising, because you might take a while to find someone.

And that person has a lot to learn. He's going to be hard to replace. Oh my goodness.

And Eric spent a long time, this is his second person, because the one who was his deputy for a long time was having health issues and ended up retiring. And he spent, I think, six or seven years with Mark.

But he does have, remember how you told him to write this? Oh, yes. He has got a list. Oh, good. And he's going to type it up for you.

When I first learned about this, I met with Connie. I said, we have got to get it packed together and get something going. And she and I met with Eric that same day. I went downstairs and said, Eric, I know a lot of this is in your head. We're going to have to have it on paper. So in her office, Connie's office offered to do whatever spreadsheets or whatever formatting he needed because we've got to have something for the new people to be able to refer to because once he's gone, he deserves to be left alone. So we've got to have the source of information. And it's critical. I mean, we've got so much property to maintain. And anybody knows, like, if you leave a leak untended, if it goes un-taken care of for a long time, it's going to be a major expense.

I think they have a lot of stuff happen in the jail.

They always do.

I mean, like, a lot of damage.

I just talked to a guy over at Dunkin' Donuts that said that the hotel room's out there two years ago. $149 a night. They're $549 a night now.

At Bloomington for the football games. No. You've got to stay two nights. Imagine that. The weekend of the Ohio State game is $18.99, and you have to stay two nights.

Oh, my gosh. Are you kidding me?

At one time, the cheapest ticket that I saw online for Ohio State IU was $492.

Is that going to be in Bloomington? Who are they excited about first? It's just because of IU's success last year. Yeah.

Yeah. And well, you know.

Well, they got Ohio State ranked number one. And I think IU's like number seven after they won the national championship.

Yeah, and I think there's another team in between them two. Do what? I think there's Morgan might be in between them two. Yeah. Garrett Cavanaugh works for Northsburg here. His son's part of the team as a manager or something. And that's who I ran into.

I don't think I'll be going.

He went to the Las Vegas, whatever they are. Las Vegas.

So besides the adoption, which we'll have a meeting right after, we have one more meeting in November.

On that day, my son, his wife, and their little three-and-a-half-year-old girl are going back to South Africa like crazy people. Oh, my God. This will be Loretta's second trip there. Oh, my God. Stephen's fifth or sixth. Dina's like sixth or seventh.

November 18th.

At 5 a.m. Yep, got it. 3 a.m. I got 9 a.m. 5 p.m. Better change that. Tell them, look at the drafts.

Oh, I don't have any desire to go. I mean, someone could give me a ticket and I'd say... I got to brush my teeth that day or something.

He did a lot of traveling, though, didn't he? Oh, yeah.

They both have. I tell them, I say, if I die and you get any kind of inheritance, I want it to go to, you know, her college savings. I mean, if y'all grow it, I will be, you know, from up above or down below all over you.
