I'm going to be running the meeting tonight. The first item on the agenda is 49th Street. Is anybody here for 49th Street?

How do you feel?
Is it less intimidating? There's other options. So this, as far as we understand, is an application for a steel sign, projecting sign. new lighting and a new front door and the hardware on the door. Do you want to just tell us a little bit about what you guys are proposing?
Yeah. So yeah, so I can get through it. So opening restaurant, I don't know if you want me to talk about the project in general or just the facade stuff. The front doesn't need that much work. There's already a blade sign arm on the door. So I assume it was approved to have a sign like that in the past at some point. Maybe that's a wrong assumption, or that's why it's not there anymore.
So there's an existing armature. Arm, yeah. And you're maintaining the same one you're not replacing it?
I think we're going to replace it. It's just going to be in the same exact location that the arm exists now. It's just like kind of a more flimsy older arm. And it's a single arm. So I think we're going to add a second arm to the bottom. But it'll be the same type of hanging in terms of coming out into the sidewalk. And then the door there now is just kind of, like, flimsy and old. So we'll just replace it in this nice sort of our gold. We have this door that we found that's, like, going to be refurbished. And then the window is just, like, painting around the trim. And then I think the lighting, I think my designers wrote, like, just, I think there is a sconce there right now. So what's up?
But right where the sign.
So in an ideal, in a perfect world, just relocating the sconce and having it be a different one. But obviously, those are inflexible and all those things, just about making sure that the sign is possible. And door really is a big thing, because the one there is not going to work.
And this is the door that is existing now? Is it a metal door or a wooden door? I think it's a chunky. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, these were not included. And so this is a salvage store that you guys found? Yeah. And do you have any details of the hardware that you're proposing?
I do in a big packet of itemized stuff to buy. That wasn't on the list to bring today, so I can get that for you. Some of the things, like the guy who is going to do it, my contractor, these things are waiting slightly until... I guess it's my first time doing it here, so there's a little bit of chicken or egg element to it. Some of the stuff can't be signed for the contractors until I get the building permit, so they can... officially make the bid. And that includes a timeline for build. So I'm kind of just seeing through as much of the town stuff as I can to give to him to be able to see. I'm not really sure which thing you need first to happen. Like, can I see through this whole process before getting you some of those details?
Well, one of the things that we do review is lighting. And I think that we could not issue as of today until we see press sheets that we have heard.

Yeah. Is this an accurate representation? Yeah. It is the piece that has been superimposed on the door? It is.

So it's a globe light with a metal, a pretty simple metal armature that's that do you happen to know the rough dimensions? Obviously it's less than the sign.

And we, with renderings, I mean, it is so easy for the light to accidentally be cut in half when you're putting it on here. So I just.

I'm not, I mean, unless it's in our standards, I'm not necessarily opposed to that since it's below the sign and would help illuminate the sign. I mean, I think I like the idea of a reclaimed door. It's a wood frame door with a single pane of glass, correct? Yeah. So in theory, at least visually, like all of this looks good to me. I think it's just the details to have formal approval.
Yeah. Like kind of specifically this A bar across the door. That's a very unique thing. So it's good to see.
Yeah. I mean, like right now the door is in its raw state of the door that's reclaimed, right? So all of that hasn't been fixed yet, obviously.

And the window, nothing is so, the signage, you were going to have a simple type on the door, glass, and then a blade sign above. And there's nothing in the glass window is staying the glass window. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
We like to sort of just thumbnail into a nice, warm, inviting place.
And that's the, and that is the vinyl sign, is the lettering on it?

I mean, you could also review the lighting standards, but we could probably look into that for you and just send that to you. But I think what we would need to see would be the lighting specs. And maybe just the dimensions for the vinyl on the door. That would be it.

I think the three of us are saying in general, this looks appropriate. And then it's just confirming that with these specifications. So the armature for the sign, the light, the door, the door hardware. Is the door, the size of it, is it matched to the existing opening? Are you having to like fur in... the frame or anything like that? Yeah.
That was something we talked about in the past. Yeah, no, we're going to alter the door to fit it. The door was bigger.

And do you know if the building permit, just, it's new to me, right? So I went in front of the planning board, that was all approved, referrals said yes. Is that waiting on, will this need to conclude first also, or are they separate issues because one's interior, one's exterior?
Marjorie, do you know the answer? Yeah, what is the... Will the building permit not be issued until...
If you have two permits for the exterior and interior, it's just one package that you submitted to the building permit.
I believe you're building permits waiting on a certificate of appropriateness from the HDRB, but also the parking waivers resolution from the planning board.
So I didn't know if the parking was resolved.
We haven't received the resolution and the resolution gets attached when they issue the building permit. So they wouldn't issue the building permit until they have the planning board resolution on the parking waivers.

Because they don't want you to go ahead and start if there's an issue with the parking.
Right, right. And so, yeah, I just didn't know if it was then tied to this because this is such a separate issue, but both elements are required for the building.
Do you know the track for his parking? Is that? Is that known sort of when he should be receiving that? Is that basically wrapped up?
That's what I was wondering.
I had a brief discussion with Tyler earlier. I have not been the building department clerk, so I'm the village clerk, right? So I will call the attorney because I believe the attorney is writing the resolution that has already been approved. by the planning board. That's my understanding.
Yeah, they settled on like a number of spaces to then suggest like referral to say yes to or whatever.
Just pass the resolution, you pay for your parking waivers and get your building permit. Yeah.
Can we, because he can't get the permit again until we also approve it, right? That's correct. So for his timeline, since we're I do this every time, and it's like, can we do this or not? But we're seeing these images. It all looks correct. If the specs match what we're seeing and we're comfortable with it, can we provisionally approve it here so that he can expedite this? And if the light isn't a go, then at least he can wire port and we can take a look at the light. That won't slow you down.
Yeah, that would be my perfect world, just because I'm paying rent on a space every month that I can't touch. You know, if it's just for lighting, but I'll do whatever I have to do, obviously.
I would recommend that you send in those specs, ASAP, and then you stamp the, you know, you'll make a stipulation in this meeting that with these provisions, you will issue your certificate of appropriateness. So then you would, Tyler, you would send in whatever missing elements, the images and the spec sheet on the On the lighting.
Another option is just removing the light from us.
I think it doesn't take so long if you know exactly.
If your designer knows what they want, all they have to do is download it. Yes. And then you would issue a letter. Your letter. And stamp the plan.
Their letter. I just want to make sure I have all the docs I need.
No, don't try plagiarizing. So then the HDRB portion will be closed. And then it's for the planning board's attorney will write, or perhaps has written. They've been busy with other things. And so you might be just waiting on that to happen. And then the planning board's chair will sign the resolution. as agreed and then both of those elements will get attached sent up to the building department and you'll be issued your building permit and then you'll do the work and then it will need to be inspected right and then after the inspection you'll get your certificate of and we can all eat good food. Just a couple quick questions. The handle on the door, is it the steel where it's shown as being black and then like a chrome or nickel or something on the end brackets? Is that correct?
It's correct. I mean, I'm realizing now I don't know what these materials are. They sent me a whole spec sheet, and I didn't memorize those things, and I didn't know that I would need that for this, but it makes sense, obviously, that I would. So let me get that for you.
I mean, assuming that is... Yeah, as long as it's dark and as long as it's metal. And kind of the same goes for the light. I think one thing, as far as the glass globes, it is going to be... pointing upward. I think a frosted glass bulb would probably be preferable, less harsh on the eyes.
So is there a motion to provisionally approve the application as described pending receipt of the additional specifications?
I primarily approve this application, pending approval of applications that will be submitted by email. Great. Yeah.

So the conduit is running down the... It's a secondary facade, but is it a which cardinal direction is that facade?
That would be the west side, correct.
So it's coming down on the rear of the building, going over, over the roof, down the side, over the other roof, then hitting the ground and going across to the panel, which will be visible from the street, but it is pretty minimally visible.

Because if they ran the condiment the other way, then it would be right directly on the front of the house.

I think the visual you showed it makes sense because the plan won't show the elevation so. I mean, ideally, we'd like to see an elevation.
Ideally, an elevation. But if not an elevation, I think as many photographs of the property from different angles would be also helpful. That way, while we're talking about it, if we need to reference something, we can find it in the image.
So can we just have this west elevation, if they can just take a clean shot of it and then just draw a line? Yeah. To me, this image does what's needed. Can I just send this?

No, that was hand-painted.
Hand-painted of the cat. And then that is the sign that is mounted on the brick, half-brick wall.
So it's not mounted. It just sits there.

So that sign just sits there. We can take it down when we're not there. You know, for the next month until we meet with you guys. It can come down when we're not open. We just kind of put it up there so people know there's a differentiation between the garden, between the French restaurant and us. There's been some confusion with people just sitting in the gardens.
I think if you, at least in my perspective, if you anticipate If you can tell us that you will be at the next month's meeting with a plan for the signage to formally submit, then I don't have any issue with that signage staying where it is until the October meeting.

Just so that board members are aware, it was the chimney issue on this property, and the permit has been issued for the chimney repair.

Sure. I'll do this, I guess. We've been there for 16 years. We know the person we bought the house from hadn't made any limited repairs, if any. There was a fire at the house in the 70s and most of the house was burned. The remaining of the original house is our basement. The foundation, supposedly. The house was getting to what the roof is about. The roof was probably installed sometime in the 90s, at the earliest. So it's gotta be over 20, it's when we were gonna, it's gotta be at least 26 years old. So our intention to do with the house and why we went with this stainless, well, we're hoping to go with a stainless steel roof is because of, I'm not gonna make a lot. My wife and I have a 10 year age difference. So if my wife is intending to stay in the house, we're looking forward.

My wife's going to stay in the house. My wife said, hey, look, you know, if I'm staying in the house, if the kids like to stay here, maybe they can take the house. So that's why we figured, all right, look, you know what? We'll pay the most right now. We'll get the steel roof out of the way. They don't have to worry about it. The replacement of a roof, the roof is taken care of. That would be something that lasts through her. It'll last, certainly for me, it'll last through her. And then the kids, eventually they'll have to replace something. But right now, to give them enough longevity, that's what we're doing. And we also like the appeal of it, the way it may look. We noticed that some of our other neighbors have something similar, and it makes it really nice. And I think that raises the look of the neighborhood, make the neighborhood look better.

I think your contractor could send you or send us just what, like, just a page or so that shows that from, because usually, I think, where we just, like the light in the earlier application, usually you can just download a page or two online, like the specification, and it will give those required, it will talk It will help tell us how high the seams are and how frequent they are. Okay.
So I'm going to try to remember this. I got some issues. I got cognitive issues. So I'll try to remember what you're asking me for. And I thought, well, hopefully he remembers.
Each of the metal seams kind of does like this. So we want to know what this looks like. They gave you the spec sheet on the shingles, but not on the... Yeah, so I think we need to see... Basically, we don't have... really any visual information on the proposed roof right now?
Instead of this page, which is for the shingles, it would be something like this for the metal roof.
Right. Break that out. So if you tell them you need that for your specific seam. If you just say, I need a specification, I need this, but for my standing seam, that's great.

So last meeting. Doug's preference is we've given him. We had talked about a couple paths forward for those two windows. One was basically putting a new double hung window, the same size, but blanking out the bottom. Um, the other option was removing what's there and installing a awning window to match the size of the original top light of the windows. That is what he would like to go forward with. Yeah. Yeah. What's happening here, we're all familiar with it, correct? OK. So this, all of the framework is going away. Let's call it roughly here, the midpoint. Yes. On the other window. Which is where the other window is, exactly. the awning window is going to be installed right there, from this wood to that wood, the original opening. Al was very concerned with what this bottom detail was going to look like. I was not as concerned about that because it's an awning window, which is going to open from the top like that. So from a weatherproofing perspective, there doesn't need to necessarily even be a sill. it's in you know i know you guys you might have a different opinion but i don't think that there needs to be some kind of protruding necessarily to make it look well but there isn't anything over there right it would just be a meeting rail so in in a way you it would sort of be preferable to not because it would read as planes that are very kind of close together then right rather than have like a So, so you felt pretty confident that once this was all removed that you would not need anything across the bottom out.

Sure. So we're replacing the porch in kind. The main discrepancy, the main difference is we're extending the stairs. And I sketched, we have a sketch that essentially the stairs are going to be extended by 12.7 inches to be flushed to the corner of the porch now. In the pictures provided, the corner, it's currently not flush. We just feel aesthetically it would look nicer to be extended to the corner. All the material will be wood, mahogany wood for everything but the lattice, which will be cedar wood. Um, the front of the porch currently, if you look beneath the deck has a cement wall, which numerous contractors have told me is structurally unimportant. We want to knock that out and put lattice there. That's right here.

I think that one element that could be improved would be for rather the planks of the decking to have this raw dead end here for it to be wrapped, at least the front cross. I think it'll be sealed better as well so that it doesn't see all that the planking is just kind of dead end and raw kind of that unfinished edge that if it's if it's banded and in a single plank coming across the porch so one going across the porch that way i think would be probably a visual and a weather kind of improvement so the grain of the wood is not all just exposed to all the weather
So just like one, you're suggesting just one plank at the end?
Yeah, running the same way that the treads of the stairs are going to be, parallel with the facade of the house rather than perpendicular. Yeah, that's fine.

And how do you feel about the band going across? It's not a historically typical band. Right. It's usually a historic house. It is that edge, right? But how do you feel about it? You want it.

We have a new inspector. It's just they're very busy. They are not dedicated completely to the village. They also do Phillipstown. And formerly, we had a part-time. Everybody's all part-time. Even our building, the liaison between the building, Jeff, two days a week and so you know that kind of and all the boards in fairness to all the boards it's volunteer boards everybody has lives outside the few hours that they spend here physically and work making the agenda it's you know it's just uh a little bit of juggling and abigail was new when she started and you know and so it's just those kind of transitions lead to difficulties in locating files. There were no standard naming conventions or places to put things. And at one point, communication between the clerk's office and the building department. And so I think it's important to, the more we know about each other's departments, the more we can help. It's like safety net for everybody, right? Right. Right.
