Library Board - Regular Meeting

good afternoon everyone glad you're here we're going to call the coffee county committee of the man one more time the manchester committee of the coffee county library board to order and we are glad to see we have some people from the community out today and we're glad to see you all and we'll take this time to entertain any comments from the public All right, seeing none, we'll move on to approve our meeting minutes from the last meeting. Has everyone had a chance to review those? They were sent out again today. May I have a motion to approve the minutes? So moved. Thank you, Bobby. May I have a second? I second. Thank you, Jamie. Any discussion? All those in favor of accepting the minutes, please say aye. Aye. Any nays? Thank you very much. We're gonna move into old business and talk about the building maintenance. Polly, if you'll share that with us, please, ma'am.

I spoke to Rick and he said they're still doing, they're finishing up remediations. Once those are done, hopefully by the end of this week, then a re-inspection will be done and once we get the all clear, we'll be able to return to the buildings. And we're still going to operate under the fact that when we get in the building, we won't be opening right away to the public because there's so much to be done as in returned books. And it's going to take us a day or two to get all that returned and the drop box empty. Nobody has a clue how many books we're gonna have to be dealing with. So I'm hoping maybe we can get in there next week, and then once we get all those cleared out and ready for business, then we'll open. We plan on posting it on Facebook that we're open again, the website. We're gonna have the little purple man out there blowing around so everybody knows something's going on there. And we hope word of mouth from patrons and citizens to let everybody know that we are reopened. Randy is going to be allowed to go in Thursday.

Randy's the tech guy.

Yeah, Randy's the tech guy to update all the computers. Now, this is being done right now because he's going to be – out for medical reasons next week and unless we can't move on with the business of the library without all the computers being updated because we've been out of there so long so this will allow us to hit the ground running and the mayor approved Randy going in there and So that's a positive. I'm glad that that's happening.

And to clarify, that is regardless of the inspection. That'll be before the inspection, correct?

Yes. Rick feels confident that the inside is fine. You know, they'd been working in there every day doing something. But, you know, to open it back to the public, we will need those all clears from the inspectors. Any questions?

All right. Talk to us about the summer reading program.

Oh, Lord. While we were hopeful to have a summer reading program, it's just not feasible right now. We can't get in the building. We had to cancel our programming because we had no other venues to have them at. And I was just, you know, unfortunately given the circumstances that we are in, we're not going to be able to do it. But if we are able to get in there late June, early July, we might have some special programming just for the kids before they go back to school. So that's the report on that. Okay.

There you go. Any questions for Polly? All right, our new business is to talk about board members for the 2026-2027 year that comes up. I think we're good. Everybody's still going to be with us for that time, and we'll need to look at adding, what is it, one new board member for the 27-28 year. but we need to elect a chair, a vice chair and also a secretary. Tallahoma will have the chair for this upcoming year. Do I have any nominations for a secretary?

I nominate Jamie Jernigan for secretary.

Very good. So we have a vice chair and a secretary. that we need for the full committee. That will be from July 1, 2026 until June 30, 2027. There are no financials to report because we have not done, you know, we haven't been there, you know, so. That's about all I have.

I'm going to get with Kate and Mariana to see about that. I'm not sure because it's extenuating circumstances. But we're hoping. See, I can't order anything because I can't have them delivered. And so I'm going to talk to them. this week, next week, to see how we need to handle that.

Not this time, no.

I just thank you for all of the work. I know it's been frustrating. waiting on everything to get tested and waiting for the results and waiting for maintenance. And just thank you.

What about you? Has it seemed like the controversy has kind of died down, like the frustration and anger about the light? Are y'all getting any kind of pushback from that?

Well, quite frankly, I don't read it because they're trashing me all over the place, and every now and then my staff might say, oh, they said this, but I try not to read it because... People don't really know the whole story, and I'm not at liberty to, you know, reveal that. So I'm just trying to keep my head up and do the job that I was hired to do and do it well.
