Highway Commission - Regular Meeting

Oh, you meant from time before. I reckon you signed on last week or last month.

All right, I will call the meeting to order of the Coffey County Hero Commission for a July meeting. We will take a taking role and no guests. All our members are present, plus our host superintendent. The next, I need to approve the agenda. Everybody should have a copy in front of them.

I'll make a motion to approve the agenda.

I think we're well into our second round in on our mowing schedule and I'm thinking maybe some of them will be coming in probably in a couple of weeks on their second route and be starting on their third we got Possum Paul paved out there in the Ghostsburg area. Got it paved. We've been struggling a little bit with paving. Ronnie Blackburn has been our lead pave guy for a long time. Has gotten ill in the last few weeks and not sure when he's going to be back. But we hope he does good and Right now they're kind of waiting on tests and things like that. I don't think it's anything that's going to put him out of commission, but it's going to take a little time to get him back.

Yeah, we sure are. We're going to miss him while he's out. So the good thing is we'll get somebody trained to – help a little more when he's off. So we'll see. Travis is taking over as the lead guy, and he'll be training new people to run that paver. And hopefully we'll get back from the July 4th vacation. We'll be right back at it. I think our next stop is going to be a little subdivision. I can't think of its name right offhand, but it's right between – it comes out close to – convenience station out there in Beach Grove. No, that little subdivision goes from goes over to 41 and comes back out real close to y'all's place. Yeah, we're going to do it.

And then from there, we'll be going up toward Tallahoma and then back to Hillsborough to finish out the year. But everything's going pretty good. We've got the tractor trouble every once in a while, but we've got enough spare tractors to keep us going this time. And we're mowing out for picnics, that kind of. Jostles are out around a little bit sometimes. So if some if they're turning right before they get to your yard or You think they ought to be keep mowing while they're probably had to go my way out of picnic. So I Think the next one is Wesley's Chapel And then Wesley's Chapel That's out there in In the rags to row can But other than that, we're just clicking right along. If y'all got anything you've seen or need done, well, we'd be glad to hear from you. We're getting a lot of patching done right now, which is needed to be done. But we've got our paper. We've been having wheel trouble. They got rusted out that we can't get them to seal. We put a tube in one of them, and it spun it and pulled the valve stem out of it. I did. I finally got them. But they put the hole for the valve stem in the wrong spot. It just was like after another. But we got it going again. We used a new ring on an old wheel, and it's holding right now.

What did you have to order? Some wheels for the paver, the drive wheels.

What year model is the paver?

It's a 94.5, somewhere along in there. it's not it's still in good shape it's just hard to find parts for it when it does right right so you know they're about four or five hundred thousand dollars new to get one to replace that one so we're trying to keep trying to keep it going as long as we can just like we do with everything out there everything's gotten higher i was talking about a new dump truck where uh sold a few things on gov deals i would like to have our fifth uh modern newer dump truck and that's about all the drivers we got anyways five we can put we've got enough for seven trucks but we get out of beach grove five will be plenty so we got mine trying to buy another dump truck next year But, yeah, everything's gotten higher, so. Anyway, that's about all I got.

One thing I've run across, had somebody tell me, right there at the railroad crossing in Summitville, on the Pocahontas Road, and I don't know if JoJo ever mentioned to anybody or not, I'd text him or call him or something, he'll walk back by it. If you're going toward Pocahontas and you cross the tracks there, it's really, really rough for about 10 or 15 feet. It's just like patch on top of patch and part of that's fell through.

Are you talking about on Summitville Road?

Yeah, right between the railroad tracks and what used to be the Methodist building. Yeah, yeah. Just right as you come off the track on the right-hand side. It's just one side and just one place, but I crossed it myself, and it was really...

The railroad track itself is rough?

No, just right after you cross.

Yeah. People like to pull off in there and spin them gravels out in the road.

Yeah, and it's a big old gravel area on the other side of the road.

Yeah. You know, everything comes through there, grain trucks, and, you know, it's rough. I'm sure it has a hard life right there. Yeah, it's literally right as soon as you come off the track, there's about a spot meter Jeff that's just real, and you can't dodge it or nothing, you know, really. Just on that one side. That's all I got.

Had some people, Oscar Crowell up there near the graveyard. Getting pretty rough up through there.

In your area where y'all fix... wonderful job you know when you coming out there at the whole on say Anderson Michael well not too long ago I mean it was real bad the last time reported and y'all reported I mean y'all fixed it the next day you cut off on I'm saying Anderson off of Fredonia and Stimble is the one that But he says now there's another place on Redonia Road that's very dangerous. So I don't know exactly. I made a wish.

I don't know where you're talking about. I don't see Anderson. That's where I live.

It comes out on the road in the water department. Done a little digging at the end of the road.

Yeah, it was right there. I knew there was a water leak and stuff that had been there. Yeah.

Well, it's pretty obvious it was fixed well. and quickly so I have the picture of that and there's always semi you can go down the road and you don't see any bad places and then the next time you go so I've been riding around five a lot here lately and trying to mix up my area and get on it instead of you know just the same spot so that's really come in nicely because a lot of people that I know in Tortell Hummer that I haven't seen in a long time and it's very nice.

I think everything's okay except the potholes. There's one real bad on 16th model going there up to Angie's house. It's Primitive Baptist. It's an old, old road. And it's there close to that big camper area. But I went up there the other day. And so there's a lot of people that go to that church. You can't see it from the road. It's closer to the road. Oh, okay. I didn't go all the way to church, but there's two there. As soon as you turn on it.

All right. Yeah, I don't have anything. Again, like I said, I can't brag on them. They was out patching potholes. Like I said, I commend them for being through. Kenny Morris, I've been through twice here just first of July. I've been through twice again.

Yeah, we've been picking up a lot of trees this week.

But I will say for anybody listening, yeah, that there's some roads. I know our area 127 hasn't been done, but that's the state road. But all of Colford County around us, the Colford County maintains have been done twice, so. If there's something that hasn't been done, it's probably not Coffey County.

If something good happens on 127, I don't mind getting the credit for it.

I don't know it, so. Yeah, yeah. But I know the state, the contract group for the state hasn't been through on our end of 127.

So I haven't been through 53.

I mean, I've been to 53 other day, but I wasn't paying attention. But I know around us that 127, they hadn't been down. So I guess those boys are, well, that raining and stuff. But any other business?

Have you heard anything about the speed limit state? And I did recognize some cameras that I hadn't even noticed before going all the way into Tallahassee. But that's such a nice road. I really enjoy going that way.
