Good evening.

27:16 – 34:06Speaker 2

Tonight, I have a lot to share with you. But first, I want you to know that I will not share everything tonight because if you have not paid attention, there is a slight show going on behind. I will be able to share with you a lot of information and I will be able to introduce you to the main topics of BUSD without me saying everything, without me saying everything. There are some things that I want to mention specifically. And as we are looking for new and better ways of communication, this is a new thought and we are open to response to how it helps. We have shown this slide show in the last two board meetings and the response has been very positive. Some people have asked for feedback, so you will see that tonight there are many flyers in English and Spanish. So there are some things on which I would like to draw your attention. As you know, this is the third week of school, so this is also the season of back to school. In the next few weeks, we are welcoming our teachers and staff members to the schools so that they can know what to expect this year, can meet the teachers, can get information about the classes and can re-establish a home-school relationship. The back-to-school night of elementary school is going on with a lot of noise. Last week, we organized our first back-to-school night with our elementary students, and tonight is the back-to-school night of the middle school. There was a very impressive presence for the elementary back-to-school, and I think that because most of the people are in the middle school night today, perhaps that is why there is not as much crowd in the board meeting today as there usually is. So if you are not able to come tonight and are busy in the back-to-school night, then do not worry, this meeting is being recorded. In the next few weeks, there will also be back-to-school nights for Berkeley High School and BTA-BIS. I would also like to say that the 1701 San Pablo BUSD Educator Workforce Housing application is still being accepted. We have again increased our time limit so that it can be ensured that those who are interested get full time to apply. And that's why our new time limit is 11th September. This is really about helping our workers, many of whom are from Berkeley or who spend countless hours in the service of Berkeley students and families so that they can stay where they can stay, where they work, so that they can stay where they work. That's why we want to say to those members of the BUSD family that you are welcome at home. If you want more information or need help in applying, then our board partners are present with a flyer at the back table. Look, they are shaking their hands. Can you all shake hands in response? Because sometimes it feels very lonely. There are flyers and brochures available. And if you are not looking for a voice yourself, then I encourage you to go back or go to our website and get information. And come with such a person as you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know, that you know Apart from this, in the first meeting at the beginning of the year, I had shared with you that we will continue to think about improving organizational clarity and focusing our attention on continuous improvement. And we are working in many areas of the organization. And we are particularly involved in deep work to support responsible technology use in technology and BUSD. Our goal is clear, to use technology in such a way that supports excellent education and learning, as well as ensuring that it is useful, thoughtful, safe, sustainable and beneficial for the health and well-being of students. Last week, we announced that on 7th October, we will come with a detailed update on the use of technology in BUSD in front of the board and we will do this and we will do that. We did not want to miss the opportunity to share the latest update with you. For primary students from 1 October and for middle school students from 15 October, for those students from class 8 from TK, YouTube's direct access will be completely closed. Teachers will still be able to use YouTube as a teaching tool. They will use it through Google Classroom. And they will select students only through the teacher. It will only lead them to educational videos. That is why science, streaming, and wave education, about which many families have expressed concern, will no longer exist. We are also ensuring that our teachers understand the use of GoGuardian and apply it, which is another tool that they can use to see and know what students are doing. In the class, along with our policy on personal mobile applications, we believe that it will lead us towards the goal of ensuring the use of technology safely and responsibly. Much more information about this special change is coming in the latest edition of DHEA Plus News this week. In the next few weeks, how do we use digital tools to help families learn digital techniques and students? We should also be ready for a survey on this. Who cares about your point of view? And do not give any information about any further steps taken by us on this subject. And if you want to stay connected to this work, then we have also started a new community group of ParentSquare ParentSquare, which is focused on instructional technology and anyone can join it at any time. It is never necessary to take care of your BUSD identity. And if you are interested, then there is a small URL and a tiny URL on the screen. We are actually working on a website update and we are excited to share it with you all in the coming weeks. And if you join this parent group, you will also be invited there when the new website is launched. At the end, I wanted to highlight some things that are going to happen in BUSD in the coming weeks. I will not be able to meet you next week, so I want to tell you that our Dhabak to School Night program is on September 12. I am sure that some people will talk to us about this this evening. And on the 13th, we are Solanus Troll. Solanus Troll's 50th anniversary. That is why we welcome you and we are excited to share some good things happening in BUSD and we are taking the opportunity to make and connect relationships with our community. Today's agenda is complete. We have one topic, Madam President, and it is a hot topic of discussion in BUSD. People wanted to know what BUSD is doing in response to the joint program Nigrani Audit a few years ago, in which it was said that we need to rethink the PE, PE and the master schedule. That is why we are not here today to tell you about all those answers, but rather to give you information about the problems and questions that we are trying to solve because we are starting to prepare a new master schedule for Berkeley High School. And that is why if you are interested in this, we urge you to stay tuned. With this, Madam President, my tips have come to an end and I welcome Director-General Leyva Cutler to the stage. Thank you, Adhikshak Fort Motel. Now, let's go for the first opportunity for Sarvajanik Tipnik. Today, I have only three speaker cards, so I don't need to give a long speech about this, how much time we will give to everyone. But today, every time in the evening, a few minutes will be given to speak. And if we have online tipnikars, then they will also be given the same time. So, first of all, I would like to welcome Kareem Gibbs, then Rashid Lee, and finally, Megan Werner.

34:08 – 36:17Speaker 1

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to speak tonight. My name is Kareem Gibbs, and I am a graduate of BUSD. I will read from my note. I want this school board to give an update on the spear-fishing attack that started in August from the district, about which we have not heard anything further. This has influenced at least four different people, including teachers, workers, administrators and students, whose emails were hacked and the hackers had at least full control over the account. They had also hidden their marks, which meant that it was difficult to find. It had never been opened up in the form of a survey. I really feel that it is possible to communicate fully with the opinions. It really seems that as we are moving towards technology, to focus on BUSD, we need better and more comprehensive education in digital cleanliness and digital communication regarding protective and suspicious views. I will encourage BSD and BSD to promote security for all students, such as two-factor authorization, which will be in the opposite direction of some full-phone restrictions, but our students will have to learn to use two-factor authentication. And they should also think about giving permission to keep a recovery email. Because when hackers come in, the only way to get them out is to report it and then clean the computer. And we had helped a person in this. Apart from that, because I had a little extra time, I wanted to say something about PE. I really feel that supporting our hardworking BHS and BHS students is an incredible opportunity. This is an incredible opportunity. Some of these athletes remain busy in games from 8 pm to 9 pm at night. Even after that, they take up the burden of complete studies. Playing is the only way by which they can complete both language and art along with their athletics. And this makes them extra competitive for the colleges. If we remove this, we will have to re-attach additional educational issues to the school. I also feel that the students who come every day for their play, for the purpose of playing through the school, where they encourage their classmates to become responsible, where they have to learn to arrange their time and work as a team for the benefit of the community, they are worthy of support. They are worthy of support. Thank you. Thank you.

36:26 – 36:37Speaker 2

I have Rachel Lee, and after her is Megan Werner. And Megan, if you want, you can just come here. And that's why you can say Rachel Lee's tip as soon as it ends. Welcome. Thank you all.

36:37 – 41:26Speaker 1

Good evening. There is good news about YouTube. I am very happy to hear this. About our concerns. To listen to the community and to help our children learn about accessibility, to contribute to the environment, thank you very much. I would suggest that we use it as an opportunity to learn for the youth. I think it will be very good if the teacher can explain to the children why YouTube is now being closed or closed. And it is not necessary that it is more about really learning them and giving them the freedom to connect with each other. So let's use it as an opportunity to educate our children. Today, I have come here to ask a very basic question that when BUSD reaches a child to an online platform, then this will not be YouTube. It is a good thing, but this can be IXL or any AI, AI tool or any other online platform. Do we know what kind of data that company is collecting and who has given consent for that collection? So I want to tell you about a recent case filed against the IXL company, where the lawyer alleges that IXL collected data of millions of school children without parents' consent and earned from it. In this matter, the Federal Trade Commission, which is responsible for the protection of the population, issued a statement that the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act gives parents the right to control how their children's personal information is used together and shared. Especially, the FTC has made it clear that when a school collaborates with an ad-tech company, it does not mean that the school can give consent for everything on behalf of the parents. That is why I have come to request that BUSD audit every app, website and third party service provider's privacy so that students can access it through their district documents and accounts. Thank you. Namaste Shubh Sandhya Shubh Sandhya Adhikshak and Board I am sure that all of you must have read the news in the New York Times today, in which it has been said that New York City is taking bold, decisive and safe steps for small children on school technology. Removing AI-based apps on AI, eliminating the use of personal screens up to the third class, and creating such a curriculum for high school that increases awareness and knowledge about AI. They have spent months preparing a well-developed plan. The Barclay family has been asking for this kind of attention and attention since last spring. We have asked them to do this with the district. It is very important for the community to feel that they are responsible people for their children's future and their school. Our Yachika, on which more than 700 families have signed up, asks for a well-thought-out, realistic view for the use of technology from the 12th class to the 10th class. We had told you to close YouTube, and it was very nice to hear that K-33 will no longer be available for students. This is very good news. Although YouTube is an 80-plus, And with Google, the school service conditions say that it is for 18+. That is why we should really pay attention to our high school. We are all asking for the support of third-party apps, especially AI-based apps, and parents. We appreciate the changes made, but these are scattered and temporary steps. Other districts are working decisively and our community is doing this work actively. We understand that the scope of this work is very big and it is a very big task to audit our digital foundation and to prepare the curriculum again. We have to be active and tough so that we can ensure the safety of our children and prepare them for the future. Thank you. Thank you very much.

41:26Speaker 2

We have two online tipnikars, Lindsay Nofelt and Daniel Brownson.

41:30 – 43:30Speaker 1

And with this, our universal tipni sattra ends. By the grace of the Sushriya House, you can invite Lindsay and then Daniel. Can you hear me? You are welcome. Thank you very much. Good evening. My name is Lindsay Nofelt and I have come to talk about the calculation program. Currently, there are not enough pilots and they are our witnesses. We are one step behind in our work. Amplified Dismoss and TCRWP and Lucy Calkins should be provided to PUSD families. Both of them are very dependent on the student-led research model that does not have a pilot, which takes their children's side, whose families can take the cost of self-calculation. Does this leave everyone behind? In a district where there is a 60% generation gap in mathematics, choosing a questionnaire model instead of a direct instruction increases this gap. We cannot repeat our mistakes and correct the problem of mathematics. We are loved by Anita Archer. I do it, we do it, you do it, through vision, in a well-organized manner, clear instructions that make sense and flow are needed. We need the knowledge-based knowledge management so that every student can reach the grade-level material without being disturbed by the unorganized work. And we need the research of the National Mathematics Advisory Panel, not the marketing claims of the sellers, which only say what you want to hear. Thank you. Thank you too, Daniel.

44:02Speaker 5

I am happy to hear that YouTube is being blocked from KK to 8. Can you hear me?

44:11Speaker 2

Yes, we can hear you.

44:13 – 45:58Speaker 5

I think that everything that is shown to the children on Pigya should be blocked on the internet of all our Berkeley schools. And all of them. AI, AI platform too. AI model. It is in the possession of those companies that have responded to some billionaires, which are the real wealth of today. It gives them the power to shape the way our children learn, instead of encouraging them to use their own thinking. On a different topic, I am still listening to discussions against teachers to oppose genocide and war. It should be stopped. Only because if an individual or a group of individuals complains, then it does not mean that it should be taken seriously. Whereas it is the same as the least number of previous complaints, which were investigated and it turned out that no action can be taken on them. Thank you. This is the end of our general meeting. Now we will move on to the meetings.

45:58 – 46:23Speaker 2

Is there anyone for the meetings? We welcome you to the African-American Success Framework Advisory Committee. Please give us your tip.

46:24 – 50:06Speaker 2

Good evening to all the members of the Board of Directors of the Board of Directors of the Board of Directors of the Board of Directors of the Board of Directors of the Board of Directors of I have come in this work as a BSUD executive, who is deeply invested in what Berkeley Unified is and what it can become. Like many families present here, I want our school to be strong, to make our classrooms feel independent, to be recognized by the children's name, story, strength and possibilities. As an Ashwet resident, I also know that I have to accept my identity. This is the reason why the African-American success framework is important. And we thank the Board and the President for their continuous participation in the programs and initiatives related to it. Progress does not happen with co-operation. It happens when a district and community work together to choose the best and honest solution for Ashwet students and families in our schools. This is the work that we have come here to carry out. A clear example of this is the development of our Black to School program. We, the entire Berkeley community, including members of the board, invite everyone to join us from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 12. Black to School, Back to School Nights or school programs are not available. This is because the traditional practitioners have not always kept the needs, questions and hopes of Ashwet families in the center and the responsibility is to be given an answer. This is a statement that Ashwet families are entitled to start the Ashwet school year by feeling welcomed and connected and Ashwet students are entitled to see themselves in the district's priorities from the first day. In Black2School, the families of Berkeley city will connect with the resources of the community members of the public library and community members who have been designed to say that you keep your place here, you keep your place here, your child keeps an eye here, children keep an eye here. Our presence strengthens this district. This is not different from the work of Berkeley Unified. This is the work of Berkeley Unified. When we take care of the white families and keep them in the center of administration, then we make all the situations better. As we discussed in the previous session, this year, ASIC's first BUSD school is to create a deep reach in communities. We want to hear directly from the Ashwet families about what they are experiencing, what they need and where the district needs to improve. On September 9, we will use our next ASIC session on Thursday, 14 October, to plan a community meeting in the same boardroom. This is an opportunity to shape the future of ASIC for the BUSD African American families. We are excited about the coming year and the progress we are seeing is exciting. But AASHA should be organized. AASHA should be based on resources. AASHA should be responsible. And it should be seen in the real life experiences of our students and families. That is why we invite this board, officials, families, and community members to keep walking with us. Join us in Black2School. Support us in listening to what families have to say. And support us in making the African-American success in Berkeley Unified a reality. Because when the Ashwet students move forward, then the Barclays move forward. When the Ashwet families are given priority, then the entire community becomes strong.

50:09 – 50:29Speaker 2

Thank you for your tips for this evening. Now we don't have any other committee tips, so we will move on to the co-op tips. Is there any co-op tip for this evening? Okay, if there is no tip, we will move on to the board members' tips. Anna, you can start. I don't have any tipni today, but thank you.

50:29Speaker 1

Anyway, I have a tipni, so thank you very much.

50:35 – 52:58Speaker 2

And now we will go to our newest board member, Beatrice Lever Cutler. Would you like to give your tipni at this time? Yes, I would like to give it. Thank you very much. What to say in English and Spanish? Okay. Okay, very good. I would like to thank President Brown and his board members for inviting me to the Berkeley School Board. I feel honoured and take this responsibility very seriously and I am happy to work with all of you, our officials and BOSD employees. I would also like to say that there are many respected community members who have been appointed for this last post. And I have learnt that while waiting for the appointment of a representative like me, they are also fully committed to improving the education of all our students at Berkeley School. I am confident that I will be a part of our school committee and will be a part of BATCOM. I am eager to take advantage of their expertise and gain their input in the matters of the school board. In the coming few days, I am happy to discuss, sit and discuss with my board members, union leaders, officials, students and community members. I believe that I have gained my experience in the care and education of the board from the beginning to the age of school and in the education, transitional, kindergarten education, educational and educational education, as well as the support of the teachers and the support of the teachers and the support of the teachers and the support of the teachers and the support of the teachers and the support of the teachers and the support of the teachers and the support of the teachers and the support of the teachers and the support of the teachers and the support of the teachers and the support of the teachers and the support of the teachers and the support of I am reading the policies, listening to the presentations and videos, sitting with the community, listening, asking questions and preparing. I do not appreciate everyone's patience because I understand all the things that need to be paid attention to and which are necessary to raise our district even more. For now, if you want to meet, please email and I will arrange a convenient time and place for hours outside our kitchen. On behalf of President Keira Gracia Brown, the members of the Berkeley School Board, This is a matter of respect, and we take this responsibility very seriously. I hope to work with you today. Respected President and BSDK employees, I mean to come back to see the implementation of this post. Respected members of the community, I hope that we will do something good today. We are going to do something good with Barclay School. We are going to improve the education of all students. If we are going to do something good today, there is no doubt that we will celebrate in school today. We are going to have some fun in school today.

54:09Speaker 1

Thank you very much. Director Chang, we will come to you.

54:12 – 55:21Speaker 3

Yes, thank you very much. I also want to congratulate and say that we are so fortunate that we have a new director. I didn't want to say old and new director. There is that color in it and I am really happy to work with them. And once again, this is the beginning of the school year and this is a romantic time. We will again work on budget related issues and will definitely work hard with the majority and will work on LPM policy with the leadership color. And thank you very much to all those people who fought for the post. Your enthusiasm and interest for the school district was very influential, especially looking at the answers of your witnesses. You know, I have learned a lot from this. And again, I hope that you will continue your work for the school district because it is not necessary for you to be in the board to bring change. That is why I support the fate of our community and the future generations. That is all I have to say.

55:24 – 1:01:28Speaker 2

Thank you, Mr. Brown. I will keep my TIPNI up to date. I would also like to welcome Director Liva Cutler to the board and tell her how excited I am to work with you and learn from you. Ma'am, I know that you have brought a lot of knowledge and experience to our board, and it will be a privilege for us to take advantage of it. Ma'am, and for Sarjanik TIPNI, I would like to thank everyone who has come here tonight. You have raised several important issues on which we will continue to work. And I want to support Nicole's tips about the Back to School program on September 12. I was fortunate to be a part of that program. And this is actually a very good time. And this is the tradition of a very important start of the school year, in which I hope that everyone will join us. And I am waiting impatiently for the discussion tonight on the master schedule at Berkeley High School and for the students of our high school to make some important decisions. I hand it back to you, Mr. President. Thank you. Good evening to all of you. I would like to thank all the volunteers who sent emails to our students about the cyber frauds and their effects. And they talked about the long-term effects on related information. So, in the last board meeting, I would like to thank you for your tips and thank you again for repeating them this evening. Thank you for your tips on the need for privacy audit and to set strict limits on screen time. I am happy with what our district has done, but as you have also highlighted, there is a need to work on some online platforms for our students. So what is happening in New York to keep it up? Thank you for sharing this, who has encouraged us to move forward. Thank you for your tips on the process of adopting Mathematics and the need to follow your rights in our schools. And while doing this, everyone's needs and to keep their beliefs safe and to give them priority in the experiences of the schools. So, thank you very much to all our tipunikars. It is really important that we listen to all of you during our board meetings because it makes us able to govern in a better way. And when we hear the needs of the community, we also know what we are not doing well and what we need to work on. So, thank you for today's evening tips. I am very excited to see Beatrice on stage again. I have been lucky enough to work with Beatrice in the past. It seems like this is a long time ago. And that's why this is very good for me. I believe it is a special right and blessing to be able to work with you again. As I said earlier, you are a member of the Sashakt board. And I have learned a lot from you during my first job in the board. And I am excited to learn from you in the future too. Welcome back. We know that the third time is successful, but no one really talks about how big and better it is on the fourth time. That's why we have great hopes for you because you are serving this governance team. Thank you very much. A lot of work has been done in the evening, so I would like to express my gratitude to all of you. I would like to express my gratitude to all of you. I would like to express my gratitude to all of you. I would like to express my gratitude to all of you. I would like to express my gratitude to all of you. I would like to express my gratitude to all of you. I would like to express my gratitude to all of you. I would like to express my gratitude to all of you. There are many participants and support is given. And the clarity that people want is also given there. This is really a very well-organized program. So please make sure that if you get the opportunity, you will definitely go there next Saturday. Also, I am very happy to hear the updates on Shiksha Kawas in our district. Many of us on the board have really worked hard to ensure this. I especially want to thank the former board members, Julie Sinai and Josh Daniels, who led this effort and for their hard work. Also, I would like to thank our colleagues present here. It was just a dream and we used to think that it would be a great opportunity for our teachers in Berkeley. But now see it in reality and see that the applications are open now. It is very good. I am very excited. My heart is full. I really appreciate our teachers. Please, please, please apply because once the application process is closed, the priority for our teachers is a little different. So please apply. And we all should go there and visit. We are here. We were there during the Adhashala, but we should visit those apartments sometime to see how it will be like to live there. And there are apartments with one, two and three bedrooms. We know that this is not only affecting the lives of our students, but it is also affecting the lives of their families. And that's why I thank you for your continuous work. My tips for today's evening end here and now we will move forward on the co-ordination calendar. I think that all our co-ordination calendar items have co-ordination calendar. He should stay and I don't think anything needs to be removed. So at this time, can I get a proposal to approve the consent calendar? I propose that we approve the consent calendar.

Does anyone support it? I propose to second it. I propose to second it and approve it.

1:01:32Speaker 3

Who is on his side?

1:01:33Speaker 1

Yes. Who is against it? I am against it. Who is against it? I am against it.

1:01:37 – 1:03:20Speaker 2

The proposal has been approved and the consent calendar is accepted. Pardon me. Today evening, there is only one item in our agenda and that is item number 14.1 which is about Berkeley High School Bell and Master Schedule Design and Update. So, during the school year, Berkeley Unified School District was decided for FPM, which is a process run by the California Education Department. We were given the permission to do some work as part of the committee. And then in the Sharad Ritu of 2025, we did some updates. And those updates were specifically about our schedule. And we were thinking about this, that for the master schedule, what are the necessary steps to be taken? Some workers were identified. And so we will hear a little about the history of this process, that how did we reach here? We will hear about those actors and we, Santulet Master, will learn a little more about the main actors and thoughts of Yojana and Vikas for Schedule Vikas and this Yojana. And we will learn about those methods through which students, employees, family and community members will be able to participate in this process. without any delay, you are welcome.

1:03:38 – 1:05:17Speaker 1

and we will provide a solution. So if we go to the first slide, then I just want to ensure that we keep this work on the basis of our district's mission so that we can inspire our various students to get a certificate and to give positive contributions to the world and to give positive contributions to the world And one way to do this is that we prepare the schedule of our classes so that it is ensured that our students have time to study and have the opportunity to study with opportunities in their future life. Tonight we will give a lecture on Berkeley High Bell and Master Schedule Development. I think one thing to note is that there are many things with the Master Schedule during a year. So we are going to talk a little about what it is. As Mr. Brown said, we are going to identify the main actors and thoughts whose team is mainly investigating internally. But we will also share some important lessons learned from the work of a decade of Master Schedule Design. And then we will prepare our initial timeline for the chances of joining, accepting that according to the action taken on the basis of joining, there can be a change in the timeline. So with this, I hand over to Rigoberto. Oh excuse me, I also have to tell you that tonight we are not discussing special schedule options. So if people are thinking, then we have not come to you with any schedule tonight.

1:05:17 – 1:06:42Speaker 4

Good evening to the board members, board members, board members, board members, board members, board members, board members, board members, board members, board members, board members, Whatever we do at Berkeley High School is directly connected to our high school mission. To educate and inspire all students in a safe, respectful and supportive environment. In the spring of 2025, after our successful WAC Manita Yatra, we set four main goals. 1. To establish a normal, realistic English language curriculum. Two, to clarify the integrated data tool and the agenda. Three, to improve the student support. And four, to strengthen the co-operation and to join it in our community. And this is our community. Although each objective addresses a specific area of practice, but they are closely linked to each other. To provide high-quality education and effective student support, our schedule will have to make those structures very compact. They operate our daily tasks in Char Laksh BHS. And they will work as a basis for every design development in our Bell and Master Schedule process. I think you should use the arrow.

1:06:42 – 1:07:02Speaker 1

Use the arrow on the side. What is it doing? I'm not okay. This is done.

1:07:02Speaker 2

What happened, assistant?

1:07:06Speaker 1

So, we will say for the next slide, please.

1:07:09 – 1:21:17Speaker 4

Sir. To base our discussion tonight, it is helpful to clarify how bell schedule and master schedule work together. As mentioned here, the BELL Schedule determines the length of the entire educational period, the duration of the day, the period of passing, and the start and end time of the school day. The MASTER Schedule is the JATIL engine below it. This is an introduction to the program, Teacher FTAventon, a program of student assistance, such as our co-educational education center, CLC, language assistance and teacher preparation and co-educational period is mapped. I have been in BHS for about 10 years and even after that, our bell schedule has been almost unchanged, although our master schedule is constantly evolving. I have personal experience of this work because I was in charge of making a master schedule in BHS as a principal from 2017 to 2020. Now this is respected. Even though we have just started this academic year, with the Master Schedule, just like every year, our administrative team and teachers and leaders are already analyzing the situation in detail, thinking about what they are doing, identifying the obstacles, and making strong notes about improving the curriculum and staffing for the next semester. There is a process of improvement that is being done intentionally and deliberately. I now hand over to Upradhanacharya Kratan so that he can talk about the historical changes and changes made in our Bail and Master Schedule. We think that in the future, it is important to respect the work of the staff and the community and learn from the process of every change. Before we talk about where we are going, I think it is important to recognize that we are not a continuous improvement, we are a learning organization, and we are a learning organization that is better than us, and who else can be better than us? And I consider myself very fortunate that I am in my 16th year at Berkeley High, and I have experienced some of the major historical events of scheduling. It may not sound so dramatic to hear this, but they were historical events for us, where we actually changed the school through both our bell master schedule and design. So one incident on which I want to take us back was in 2014-15. With the advent of U9, More than 10 years ago, we learned that we can redesign the bell schedule or term schedule without making any significant changes in the school. We made a significant change in the master schedule, in which a new educational community was created in the 9th class, the lottery was moved from the 8th class to the 9th class, and a change for our students, support and self-reliance was created. The bell schedule came as an option, but it was not chosen as a means to bring our students to the centre. As the pandemic progressed, we had to quickly respond to the changing environment for our students. Although none of the plans were right, we eventually went to a scheduled schedule with a trimester, where the students were assigned three classes that kept changing each other. There was no major change in the master schedule, but the students' experience changed in the bell schedule. The unannounced change in the schedule made us feel that Berkeley High was capable of doing something. And this continued from 2021 to 2023. During that time, the staff agreed that a change was needed and they were excited about the new model. But what was not clearly defined was what the problem was. And when we start with a solution instead of a problem, we can unknowingly create a new problem that we did not even know about before. That is why we have learned from the SAAAMI group that we can change the bell schedule without the master schedule. We can change the master schedule without the bell schedule. If we don't know why we are changing anything in the beginning, then we can put ourselves in a big dilemma. Next slide. This takes us to our experience with the FPM discussions with all the educational programs related to PE in PUSD. After that meeting, the district and Berkeley High have changed a lot in the clarity of the fitness program's activities, programs, training, training credentials, and students and families. For example, our activities on FPM exemptions reached us from 10.7% fitness gram in 2025 to 44.9% in the previous year, which I believe we have achieved much better than the goal of 3 times 5. And I think it is important that we celebrate that success and solve every problem and learn from it, not to start with a big solution or design, nor do we need to know in depth what we are actually looking at. So we have made a lot of progress on immediate implementation issues. The next step is to see how our bail and master schedule can support PE with time. Next slide. As we have done this work in the last few years, the main question to manage our plan has been quite developed. In the spring of 2025, our focus was on emergency and operation, as you just heard. How do we ensure that all BHS students are properly registered in PE and all 9th grade students are given physical fitness tests? But as soon as we analyzed the effects of the student schedule, our survey increased to 25% more than before. How did we create such a master schedule that guarantees equality and reach, and increases the opportunity for each student to fulfill their basic needs and achieve the quality of an AG college? Although our special troop line has been developed, but what is completely stable is our unbreakable commitment to student experiences and results. The center of every decision has reached the court, such as ensuring that the students of our special education program and our Bahubhashis in the CSC program are not forced to choose between necessary education, necessary assistance classes and rich and good subjects. As shown in this slide, we are focused on the protection of Bahubhashis in CTE, international languages and visual arts. Thank you. I really like this graphic because every year when the students of our 8th class come to the HIGH, I do this with every student. And this graphic shows how our universal 9th class looks like and how it has been developed. So this can help us understand the tension of reaching equality. Almost every student of the 9th class teaches four basic classes, which they take in a group. Freshman seminar, English, Math and Math. Each student has at least one option to choose a subject. For many students, their 6th period is another optional subject. But for some students, for example, the Collaborative Learning Center Courses or Bahubhashi programs, that period is already decided. This means that students do not have the number of available options in the present. Before we add any other requirement. And even if you are thinking that a group of students can get both the options. Anyway, they are choosing between PE, World Language, Visual Arts and CTE. There are many options available there. So I just want to make sure that we recognize that everyone is making a choice and some students have fewer options to make that choice. If we look at how the schedules of different students are different, then this slide makes those differences more clear. A student may have two optional options on the day of the 6th period, and only one option can be available to the CELC assistant or Bahubashi teacher with IEP, because the second class provides a mandatory sectional assistance. Sometimes the option of taking the 7th course can be available before or after the regular day. The issue is not the 7th period, but they are optional. We cannot force the students to increase their days, and the staff and students are not ready to expand those assignments. Therefore, it is not necessary to keep additional courses outside the regular schedule to solve a problem or a legal problem. Please. So this is an imaginary situation. This is just an example. This is not a scheduled schedule. Don't take a screenshot of this, friends. For example, this is a fast-paced picture. And this shows that if we keep P in the composition of our 9th class, then what will happen? When this 5th grade course will be made, then if it is not for this, then some students will have a world language, visual and performance arts, CT course or for some other optional subject, there will be only one place. I am saying something because other students will not have that option. That 6th period is already determined for a targeted curriculum. For example, their CLC is a support program. The purpose of this is not to compare the teaching practices with each other. This is to show the dilemma that we face. If we only look for a list of PE, then while thinking about it, our question is not whether PE is important or not, or whether any subject is more valuable than others, or not, or not. The question is how to solve an excess problem without necessarily fulfilling it. Please slide. And these are just two groups, and they show the dilemma of all our students. This is an imaginary snapshot of the ninth class. Now we add all the elements that make our school extraordinary. We need our California Partnership Academy, a set of internships available for students, IB Diploma Program, DTA, BIS, our unbelievable creativity, our students who have to go for the 6th period and the rest of the day for athletics. This list gets longer and longer, so the doubts are almost unlimited, which is exciting because it means that we have a chance to change our approach and we can only need to think beyond the master schedule solution. Upradhanacharya Craig has just told us about the real impact of the implementation that our PE needs put on the schedule of the students. But when we look at it from the outside, we will have to bring forward many other equally important ideas that decide whether a schedule is actually consistent in terms of design. As you can see here, we are calculating the three main implementation standards. First, independent logistics, in which the time of the class is FTE. FTE is involved in the development of infrastructure and staff business. 2. Comparison of facilities and resources, gym, athletic field, and classroom space. 3. And finally, the impact of education. It should be ensured that any change in the environment is in accordance with our traditional education reality. A simple schedule design should easily compare all these flexible parts. In the last two years, all the groundwork, analysis, staff, feedback, and creative thinking have led us directly to the current design question for the year 2026. How can we ensure that BHS's BELL and MASTER Schedule Equity and AXS support current programming, protect the power, and increase the possibility of being an AGE-AGE member by using the existing resources to meet the needs of the students? This question compels us to look at BHS as a whole to protect the things that make it a priority, such as our small schools and people, while we have to remove the social and economic barriers for all teachers. To answer that question, we have prepared a clear three-step roadmap for this semester. The first phase, which is currently going on, focuses on the specificities of the schedule and the business people, including the block period, scheduled days, advisory, extended days of classes, and non-compliance, as discussed in the main proposals. In October and November, the second phase is focused on describing that data, so that it can be identified by the community values and the main priorities. At the end, in the third stage, during November and December, we will prepare a model of a tight schedule and will submit an advisory recommendation in front of the board. Community cohesion is not just advisory for us, it is very important. We are excited to hear from our BHS, BIS and BTA employees, students and families. In September, we are starting our input survey in a gradual manner, which will start next week from the employees. After that, the students and then the families of our Vyapak High School and Middle School will be included. On September 24, we are making a big effort on Back to School Night, after which, in October, there will be virtual town hall, site committee and targeted focus groups like other opportunities, so that it can be ensured that every community's voice will shape the path of our future. We want this process to be easy for everyone. Our dedicated Master and Bell Schedule Design Web page will be live on the BHS website by the end of the day on this Friday, 4th September. This landing page will work as a central centre for the survey link, the update of the committee and the stone of the project. I would like to thank our entire school community, our employees and the board for joining us on this page. We are going through each and every step of this work. Thank you very much. Thank you very much for your presentation.

1:21:22 – 1:22:10Speaker 2

Now we will go to the board for questions. Does anyone want to start from the board member? I will start. I have a few questions to start with. First of all, I would like to thank you for all the work you have done. This was really very thoughtful. I really appreciate the way in which you have presented the complexity of all those thoughts, about which we will have to think while reading this design challenge. My first question is about the design challenge and all those schedules that you showed us. And I am thinking, do we have such students who are Bahubashi teachers and who have IEPs? And what happens for them in the present?

1:22:10 – 1:22:48Speaker 4

This also depends on their classification within the Bahubashi program. You can be a student who is related to an expository writing class, which can be optional for you or not. But if you are a student who is getting a Y in ELD, then the curriculum will be in place of some of your main U9 work. So this is the place where you can do something from trade-offs. There are also students for whom both of them are good issues. So you have a student who is getting help from both the places. This number is not very big, but it is an example of what kind of difficult struggle we have. So this is a great example of the difficulty of uplift uplift.

1:22:48 – 1:23:16Speaker 2

So I just hope that I know that this is a small number of students, but I hope that we are thinking about these different issues because we are getting into all these doubts. And I think the only other initial question I have is that Mr. Rigosa, you used the word we a lot and in the end you talked about the update of the committee and maybe I missed it, but I am eager to know who is in that committee, how that committee was assembled.

1:23:16 – 1:23:44Speaker 4

There is no administrative committee. Forgive me, this is the work of the site and district management. We are working with different partners. One of the interesting things about this work is that we have worked together with our teachers and leaders in the campus. We have recently worked with the Brea department on the development of that survey. So from the committee, I mean from the members of the site and district.

1:23:45 – 1:24:15Speaker 1

Well, we have many existing committees in the Barclay Higher and Vyapak community, and so while thinking about those focal groups of engagement, we were also talking about how to include them, how to include them. Some of our active members in the School Site Council, for whom this is an important issue, So we will imagine that we will use that group, but we also want to keep in mind that we are capturing a diverse set of experiences so that we can use that information.

1:24:15 – 1:25:04Speaker 2

On that point, it may be appropriate to think about joining DLAC, DLAC or DCCS, which are the groups representing those children who have IEPs and children in the Bahubhashi program and who may have special feedback. Thank you. This is very complicated and I am still trying to understand all those things on which you have to think and on which our students have to think in terms of their schedule. I am thinking, you know, you have included students from the 9th class in this in a short way, but what will happen to our 10th, 11th and 12th class students who are following this and fulfilling PE requirements? There are some who are not taking PE, but are adopting it.

1:25:10 – 1:27:01Speaker 1

It is a small amount and it is going to go to our general public this morning. So, one important thing that you should know is that we do not call them waivers, we call them exemption sheets. They are called exemption sheets. We have information about these sheets. California state says that students will take PE physical education for 4 years, but they have the opportunity to get a sheet, which can be done in many different ways. Athletic sheet can be done. They have passed the fitness test and they are 16 years old. They can also get a leave due to medical difficulties. So all this was also updated in the board policy and they will not change the part. The problem is with the 9th class. We asked Google in the morning, but in California, most of the students in the 9th class are in the PE class, and the School District FITNESS test needs to be completed in the same way. Another requirement is that students should get 1st place for this grade, so they can get it through the class in physical education or due to athletic freedom. The majority is not in other districts. That is why we are now calling it a community action. And the challenge is that they are not related to the workers with credential. Right? So it is one of those things that we will have to introduce. That is why that community action is not something that will last for a long time because it is one of those things that we need to fix. But the state has agreed that we will need time and resources to arrange this.

1:27:07 – 1:27:46Speaker 4

Maybe to provide an overview of the 10th to 12th class. This is something that we are seeing because these PE challenges go up. Today we presented some examples of classes for the 9th class. We can give another presentation to talk about the 10th, 11th and 12th classes. Most of our students are in the learning communities. For example, you probably add good things as part of our small school. And that's why your main classes will be included in that program. As a student of the 10th class, you can be involved in PE's second year and your needs in the academic field, which will limit your options.

1:27:46 – 1:28:14Speaker 2

So, it is made up of the most knowledgeable people, students, teachers, administrators, and workers. But how does it affect our students in becoming a part of the solution and understanding how it affects them and their future brothers and sisters? And how does it affect our game activities as well? How are they included? What will be the impact of this? How are we including the community of young students who will be affected by this? I think this is the most interesting question.

1:28:20 – 1:30:17Speaker 4

Fortunately, they are around us every day and reaching them is the easiest thing for us. That's why it is important to set a time limit for the survey so that we can ensure as much feedback as possible, not only from those students who want to participate in it. After this, to talk to our teachers and leaders and to find the best place to talk to the students, to trust our leadership, and to use survey data to discuss the children and experiences. Questions on concurrent enrolment are for a specific group of students who can be in those courses, whereas for a student who has never heard about it, it will not be very helpful, but they can talk about reaching the wellness centre or other areas. So I think that the thought is that can we distribute our students so that everyone gets a chance to speak and there are many different focus groups and levels of listening. This is one thing that we have learned from the previous committee. One of the biggest successes was when they were only available to listen, one such place where experiences could be heard. The second aspect is that every administrator of our team is involved in this work and is talking to students in every possible capacity. We are fortunate that students are also included in our school site council. This is one of our needs. And those student representatives are chosen by our leadership team. And we have a strong leadership program with which we will join. We have a large number of student clubs. We have a club that comes on the 4th. So I think we are using every possible destination to find and include them. I think we are trying to understand what we are asking them because their time is also precious. And it was a form of fatigue to survey the workers and the community again and again. That is why we need to ensure that what we are doing with the students is a targeted data collection, which is useful somewhere and they can see that data somewhere in that process and they can see that data somewhere in that process. Otherwise, it seems like a practical simulation rather than a real simulation.

1:30:19 – 1:31:36Speaker 3

Thank you very much. Yes, and I really do not recommend, as it has been said, here is the description of the complexity and the other forms of support that are present in the present and the other forms of support that are present in the present and the other forms of support that are present in the present and the other forms of support that are present in the present and the other forms of support that are present in the present and the other forms of support that are present in the present and the other forms of support that are present in the present and the other forms of support that are present in the present and the other forms of support that are present in the present and the other forms of support that are present in the present and the other forms of support that are present in the present and the other forms of support that are present in the present and the other forms of support that are present in the present and the other forms of support that are present in the present and the other forms of support that are present in the present and the other forms of support that are present in the present and the other forms of support that are present in Apart from your social responsibility, which is really important and does not want to burden us, but rather wants to reach a consensus. No doubt, you are a politician. You implement it and bring it before the board. Have you worked with other districts who have already made such a difference? My generation of politicians remember that almost every year there was PE in school. It's not that I always liked it, but I learned badminton, played bad basketball, but I realized that I can play it in any way. You know, if the game is very good for me, can't you make a small game? I don't know. But I learned a lot of different games.

1:31:36Speaker 4

I was in a scuba diving class until I came here. So it was pretty good.

1:31:41Speaker 3

So in California, or in the nearby regions, how have they arranged this necessity with this kind of complexity?

1:31:51 – 1:32:45Speaker 1

Anyway, I will say that most of the districts do P.E. in the Nomi class. P.E. is the main thing. I think we have been in touch since it started. We have received a lot of information about different schedules. I think we have some new administrators in the staff who were involved in this process in the previous district, so we are taking advantage of some of the lessons learned by them. When there are 300 students in your school, it is not for the weak-hearted. On this occasion, along with Principal Rego and Vice Principal Clay, I would like to thank the other counsellors who arranged all the students in the classrooms before the school in three weeks. We faced some technical difficulties, but we are solving them. And this happens every day. Thank you for all your efforts.

1:33:12 – 1:34:35Speaker 2

Once again, thank you very much for the presentation. I know that some things we have to do legally. This is very important and I am grateful for your work for this. And also for all those people whom you mentioned who are trying hard to ensure this. For me, the biggest concern is to understand that the proposed legislation does not only fulfill our legal needs, but also how it will improve the results of these students, who have been historically neglected and who have had to face the biggest obstacles of reaching them. You had talked a little about this while showing the timeline of the 9th class, such as cutting down on optional subjects as well as maintaining the need for those courses which are helpful for students academically. I know that this is a challenge that you are all thinking about, but maybe you can tell us a little more about how this is the main focus of our work, not just PE, PE, PEAS. And I have four more questions.

1:34:42 – 1:36:21Speaker 4

I will say that you have caught the right thing. Our fear is that if we start thinking that where to keep a period in the day, we have a chance to change the experience of the students. I think the excitement came from here. The problem was that everyone was coming and saying that this time will not come, it will do, it will do. What we didn't do was a real-world analysis. A real-world analysis of what is working well and what is not. What data points are we using to determine how successful we will be? When you don't have a goal of success, you don't know how success will look. Or you interpret it during work, which makes you feel that you are just being pulled and taken away. That's why I think our data is so important. Which student experiences do we want to keep in the center? Because if we start with A block or B block, then we get confused about what is working for you in school. What are they not doing? Because there can be things that have nothing to do with the bell schedule, which can come up when talking to students. We don't know what's going on there. And the worst thing is that we already know what the kids are going to tell us. We have to get down to it with a lot of caution, which was said in the beginning. I appreciate it. The time frame we are looking at can be changed based on that. If we see any big change or any other problem, we will have to stay connected to it. But I am afraid that we will consider it only as a 9th grade or PE, BE problem. Here are long-term problems and in the end we have a chance to work on more than one thing using the Bail Schedule and Master Schedule process. This is very interesting. I am also trying to buy a house and you know that if the windows are bad and the wall is also bad, then you will have to solve both together. So what will it mean for us if we can do something innovative that we have got through these initiatives and we can come to a better state than before.

1:36:29 – 1:37:42Speaker 2

Yes, and I think this is very important and I liked listening to this. And I would just like to add that we should also give priority to the analysis of our data around the results of the students. In particular, one of the main issues for me is AGE, AGE needs and reach those programs. How is our A.G. requirement? How can this process help in dealing with this issue? And I am carefully choosing my words because I feel that community connection is very important and it is necessary to obtain data from community connection. But I want to ensure that we do not take decisions on the basis of initial thoughts or thoughts. I want us to make decisions on the basis of data, real data. And I know that you are going to do this from the beginning, so I am not telling you, but I am emphasizing that this is an important part of the process. Jalaisa is making a face, which means that she wants to give an answer, so I give you a chance.

1:37:45 – 1:38:29Speaker 1

No, I was going to say that you said the right thing about A.G. because he had started this discussion about the obstacles of A.G. It is certain and I always talk to Jawan about this. We need to increase that barrier. Yes, our Sunatak barriers are very good, but our A.G. barriers are definitely such an area where we can improve, where we can improve. As we are looking at the personal schedule of students, we are recognizing many obstacles, These obstacles have helped us improve ourselves, to make questions and improve them, and are also guiding the questions asked in this survey. So yes, this will be a good indication that if we give too much reach, then do we see that growth in our age groups?

1:38:38 – 1:39:51Speaker 2

And I think when you mentioned on the side that you will come back to the board in December, then when you will come in December, then we will be able to see some information about that survey. I want to ensure that we will also see that data because it will help us in making our decisions. That's why I want to thank you for listening to this and thank you for including it in the agreement. I want to ask a little about the survey. I think that surveys are very good when you are not tired and when you are not tired of the survey. I think that it is also very good when you are not such a useless parent who does not have the ability to do it. So how do we ensure that the families and students whose survey or town hall is less likely to participate in BATCOs are heard in this process? You have already mentioned students, especially with the day-to-day connection, so I liked to hear this. But maybe my question is about our families. How do we ensure that their voice is heard in this process if they do not come to the town hall or if they do not have the ability to participate in the survey?

1:39:51 – 1:41:41Speaker 4

One thing that I can tell is that even if they have some questions Let me talk about the ones we are going to include in the survey. I think this shows the way in which we are thinking about community connection. And that is that we were recently talking about asking a question as part of the survey. How would you like to stay connected in the future? Are you interested in follow-up surveys? Are you interested in personal conversations? Where are you already? Where can we go? Instead of just making it so that you come to us, that you come to us. For example, how does the town hall look like? We leave the dates in one of the slides because they are already decided. But many of our side communities, Affinity Space and the community that is going to happen on Saturday, right? When the dates are decided, once they are decided, we decide to go to them. Yes, where we are already present. So we are really interested, yes, through survey, but we are thinking that how to connect women leaders. Survey is a little long in the beginning and a lot of questions have been asked because we know that we are getting this opportunity only once, right? And this does not mean that if there is no survey, then we are thinking about back to school night, where we will set up a resource fair and maybe collect data through that survey. Last Sunday, VP Clegg and I were doing some work in Junior Jackets where they were playing football and we were working on the master schedule. But we thought, let's come back this Sunday and see what questions we can ask those students and their families who can come to Berkeley High. But it is not necessary that we are saying how you can fit in our group, but how can we go to those places where you are already in the community and ask you what you feel about different things.

Yes, thank you very much for that. I appreciate it. Especially meeting with people and families where they are and using those places where they are already present. And that's why I appreciate it. I wanted to add something else. But I give you a chance to keep your word. But One more thing that I wanted to ask, maybe I would like to see what we get back in December. So I explained a little about the desire to see that data. But I also want us to think about asking a main question. Because I am back in the classroom. But at the end of this process, what proof do we have that we can say that this new schedule is better for our students, not just different? And apart from this, how will we know that it is better for those students who did not get the opportunity in the last few years and who have been historically deprived? And that is why when you all come back to us, I would like you to share all that information with us and also answer these questions.

Thank you very much for your work.

And thank you for keeping the door a little open. Because I am sure that after leaving here, we may have more questions. We may have more thoughts. We may have more things that we want to share with you. Like some pop-up surveys. Or to reduce the number of questions in those surveys. But we will share them with you later. But thank you for keeping the door open because it is a long process. It is not a process that has started this year and not a process that we are going to complete this month. But thank you for your dedication and hard work. And I know that in the end, we will be able to answer those questions and make such decisions that will greatly affect our current students as well as the future generations of Jackets. Thank you all very much. Okay, we will move on to the detailed survey tips. Is there anyone here who wants to talk to the education board? We will move on to the detailed board survey tips.
