Setting back OK, we good. Good evening everybody. You were at a Common Council meeting of City of Wausau Tuesday, June 9th, 2026. It is 719 PM will call the meeting to order. Please join me for the Pledge of Allegiance.

All right, first up, we have a proclamation for Park and Recreation Month. And it reads, whereas parks and recreation is an integral part of communities throughout this country, including the city of Wausau, Wisconsin, and whereas parks and recreation promotes health and wellness, improving the physical and mental health of people who live near parks, and whereas parks and recreation promotes time spent in nature, which positively impacts mental health by increasing cognitive performance and well-being and alleviating illnesses such as depression, attention deficit disorders, and Alzheimer's disease. And whereas park and recreation programming and education activities such as out of school time programming, youth sports, and environmental education are critical to childhood development, and whereas parks and recreation increases a community's economic prosperity through increased property values, expansion of local tax base, increased tourism, the attraction and retention of businesses, and crime reduction. And whereas parks and recreation essential and adaptable infrastructure that makes our communities resilient in the face of natural disasters, and whereas our parks and natural recreation areas ensure the ecological beauty of our community and provide a place for children and adults to connect with nature and recreate outdoors, and whereas the U.S. House of Representatives has designated July as Parks and Recreation Month, and whereas the City of Wausau recognizes the benefits derived from parks and and recreation resources. Now, therefore, be it resolved that I, Doug Denny, Mayor of the City of Wausau, do hereby proclaim July as Park and Recreation Month. And here to accept that for parks is Director Polley.

Thank you. I don't really have a lot to say other than I'm excited that every July is Parks and Recreation Month, so we try to do some exciting events. We don't have anything specific planned just yet, but we do have potentially a splash pad that could be opening, barring the weather goes well. And we will be putting some information about Parks and Recreation on the Facebook page and sharing it with our community and trying to promote the good things that we have here in Wausau. So thank you very much.

Thank you. Director Pollack. All right. First up, we have item three is common council elections. And we have a little anomaly here is that by rule, the council elects member of the plan commission and we elected Alder Watson. And then it also provides that the chair of parks and rec is also a sitting member of the plan commission. and that is also Alder Watson. So not able to wear two hats, we would re-elect a member of this body to represent plans. So I would open up the floor. Do we have any questions on how that happened? I would open the floor for nominations for plan commission. Alder Killian.

Item 9 is not going to be taken up tonight. It did not come out of committee. So we'll move that to the next council meeting. Item 10 is announcements from the mayor and all the persons. I guess one little announcement is, especially for the new alders, you do have a distribution box in the clerk's mailroom that you have access to. So if you need help finding that, let the clerk know. There's some good information. The municipality magazine talks a little bit about that. NEW ELECTED OFFICIALS, WORKING WITH COUNCIL MEMBERS, AND HAS A LOT OF TRAINING AVAILABLE THAT YOU CAN SIGN UP FOR. SOME OF IT'S ONLINE, SOME OF IT'S IN PERSON. SO I'D ENCOURAGE YOU TO LEAP THROUGH THAT. IF YOU SEE SOMETHING YOU LIKE, WE DO HAVE SOME COUNCIL FUNDING BUDGETED FOR SOME OF THE ON-SITE STUFF. MOST OF IT'S PRETTY LOCAL. SO IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN THAT, ROBERT'S RULES, MUNICIPALITY 101, DIFFERENT ONES IN THERE, TAKE A LOOK AT THAT. and let us know. Any other announcements from Alders?

Alder Trueblood. Since we won't meet again before, I would like to appreciate the signs remembering the 250th anniversary or commemoration of the founding of the country and the signing of the Declaration. of independence, I still think it still holds a lot of value. Also, on a other note, I would like some sort of ruling, I guess. At what point are we in violation of the public notification since we're starting this meeting so late? At a certain point, we are beyond that public notification. So just for future consideration, I mean, if we're going to notice we're going to start at 6.30, starting a half hour late or an hour late, seems to be that is not fulfilling the spirit of the rule, let alone the letter of it. So just a consideration.

It is worth considering. I know Alder Martins was trying to prod it along.

We do have the Committee of the Whole retreat scheduled for the 23rd. You'll see an agenda coming out soon on that. Also check your emails for the Committee of the Whole budget discussion that we'll be polling for as well. That should be maybe already in your emails. Anyone else? Okay, public comment.
