City Council - Regular Meeting

I don't have any public here, but we'll leave it open for 15 minutes. Anybody would like to comment. So it's on the budget and the tax rate. And Zach, if anybody jumps on there, let me know. Yes, sir. Otherwise, we'll just sit here and visit. I hope we have a forum tonight.

Well, everybody signed that paper somewhere.

They sure did. I think Caleb's out of town, I believe. I think he went to the soccer game the other day. Y'all got a baseball player, pal, I saw this morning, or maybe yesterday, from Missouri, transferred in from Missouri, going to play for Tim Corbin. Can't fault him for that.

We've got some good athletes. You've got a good quarterback coming back. Yeah, you do. And the other day, they had two big linemen that had signed up. So we could have a pretty decent football team again this year.

I think you will. I haven't seen your schedule.

I'm wondering what Tennessee is going to have a quarterback, actually.

Well, we've got a lot of question marks as to how. Plus, you know, everybody's got a tough schedule, but ours is murder. And, you know, we could go seven and five easy. Or six and six, you never know.

They've got, they've signed some good quarterbacks, but they're, I mean, they're not, they're young, but they're not, they're not probably the top in the country, but they're good quarterbacks. They've signed two or three.

Did you see, switching back and forth between football and baseball, did I see where North Carolina is going to pitch an 18-year-old freshman tonight? Yes. And he's pretty good from what I understand. Yeah. They've been so close. They've been there several times, but they never win.

I'm not a big North Carolina fan, but I'd like to see them win.

But I've been keeping up with Oklahoma pretty good this year. Seeing them play, every chance I got. And I like to see them. They've got a good team.

They got hot at the right time. You know, last weekend series, Tennessee went over and beat them two out of three. And then Oklahoma went to the SEC tournament and went out first game. Yeah. And then they go.

Yeah. The last few games, they've been tough. They've had top pitching. Well, in the tournament games, these last few they played, their pitching has been good. Yeah.

Yeah, it has been.

I don't know what the... I've been keeping up with Len all year, and Len is... They're hurting now. They've lost two star pitchers, Strider and I'll swear, I can't think of his name now, got hurt. He hadn't pitched at all this year. Strider come back and he got hurt again. You know, Strider can't stay healthy. He was hurt last year. And they lost two catchers, both of them. And one's got back, but the other one ain't got back yet. And they've had, and a coach is out again. He's another one that can't stay healthy. So, and then they can't get, Riley hitting, he's hitting like 200, 210 or something. And he hasn't gotten about four or five, six home runs, and he can hit that ball, but he's, I don't know what's wrong with him, he's got off and can't get back on it. So there are eight and a half teams in the lead in their division. But some of them are trying to catch up with them, so they better start winning.

A lot of baseball will be played just in the middle of June. I forgot. Let me go in here and get this phone. I'll be right back.

No. I got one comment saying that I appreciate the work of everyone in the city and I really appreciate Bobby for putting up a mirror in front of WB&T so I can see all the oncoming traffic. Yeah, they didn't only disappoint you, they disappointed a lot of us. As hot as Oklahoma got after the SEC tournament, it's about as cold as we got after the SEC tournament.

I was just telling Hal, Tennessee went over there the last weekend of the regular season, beat them two out of three at Oklahoma. Oklahoma goes to the SEC tournament. And then they get hot.

Hard to figure. Baseball is a great game.

I mean, the Georgia Saints have been averaging something like eight to nine runs a game. And they did score more than four or five in a single game in Omaha.

And you catch it. You know what happens sometimes when somebody wins a Heisman Trophy and then all of a sudden they don't have a good game.

He got all those rewards and he couldn't hit the ball anymore.

And you got it.

Well, we've got a lot of rain coming from the radar.

Everyone hates rain. It's moving this way, it looks like. Well, that one was going towards Cam Newton's.

We are in the middle of a public hearing, and you can see that the public is clamoring to speak. And Zach has one on there, but they just offered a comment bragging on Bob and the city employees, so that's good.

We are right now starting 545. Yeah, we always have it on second.

They were saying the way they constructed it, it's like to contain the sound in there.

So you could tell it was loud. Yeah. That's the only soccer game I've been to where it felt pretty much the entire stadium stayed. They just all stayed. And I was like... Yeah. Yeah. Everybody just kind of stood there and was singing.

It was cool. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

All right, I'm going to go ahead and call a special call meeting to order. And I know y'all were talking and I interrupted you, but I've got a pretty good idea. Everybody's wanting to get out of here. Six o'clock, we have a special call meeting. The purpose is to consider and take action on the proposed budget for fiscal year 26-27 and the appropriation ordinance. Nothing has changed on the budget except we moved $25,000 out of the park ARP money into the lights for the two fields that we voted on the other night. So that's the only change in the budget, so I recommend that to you. Got a motion and a second to approve the budget on second and final reading. All in favor say aye. Aye. Opposed? Okay, it's unanimous. The other purpose is to consider the established property tax rate. It has reduced because of the reappraisal to .3417, or a little over 34 cents per $100 of assessed value. So I recommend that to you as well if that's needed to fund the budget. I'll make a motion to approve.

We have a motion and a second to approve the tax rate discussion. none all in favor say aye aye okay unless somebody's got something else that we don't need a continuation budget and I didn't bring a budget amendment tonight for the current year so unless there's something related to the two that we just did the purpose of the meeting has been fulfilled and we're ready for one more motion hang on a second Zach we got anybody Okay, thank you, buddy.
