obviously uh vet prices are getting really out of control and we're do trying to do everything we can to help the people here. There's a lot of people that want to get their animals fixed. They just are running into really tough times. So, we're trying to help any way we can. So anybody from the public who wishes to comment on appropriation 1 2026 none councel council person Bolan thank you um is this is this so this is going to be used for a spay and neuter program is that the main intent
yes and this this particular one just for dogs right now because uh we prior prioritize that with the safety issues of that dogs can present Uh right now it's only 20 dogs per quarter, so 80 dogs in the year. It's a pilot program just to see, you know, the logistics of it. Starting it up. We want to make sure we're able to do more dogs. Hopefully a lot more dogs. So we're working with the local humane shelter. The humane shelter and uh Dr. Skank from Sullivan JP Animal Care will be doing the physical uh and her staff will be doing the actual spay and neuters.
Okay. All right. Thank you. I yield. Council person Thompson. Um I think this is great. Um I just caught that news story um earlier today about that poor 17-year-old cat. Like that that seriously brought tears to my eyes.
Um and made me think of my cat. So um I'm really happy that this is happening. And you know it goes to show that you know when we are collecting fees for the registration and that type of thing to turn around and use it for something that is um exactly uh on par with that. You know it it it's an appropriate use of of these funds I feel. And um I just I think it's great that you guys come up with this. My hope is that people see a return on investment by getting these pet licenses now because it for the longest time it's been kind of hard to get people to saw that and understandably because it wasn't pushed for a long time but if they see results of where that money is going I'm hoping you know it kind of gets contagious that more responsible pet owners we get more responsible pet owners that's the goal
