6:42 – 8:190

Thank you, Rebecca. Take a picture. Good evening, President Murray, members of the board, Superintendent Moore, members of the cabinet, and our South San Francisco community, especially our Monie team, staff team, and parents. I'm here to represent Monvery along with our fifth grade student, Rebecca Sanchez. Rebecca is a very hardworking student who takes pride in her work. She enjoys ballet, dancing, music, K-pop, performing in our talent show, and her most recent accomplishment has been a goal of hers for quite some time. Uh, she has become a word millionaire. We do have accelerated reader and we do keep track of all of our students reading word count and um Rebecca has been working on being a word millionaire for a little while and now she has achieved it and we have a restart every year. So we do keep a cumulative number and those students who make 4 million get a reading trophy at the end of the year. But tonight is Rebecca's night. So I would just like to thank her for representing Monovery. Oh, well.

8:52 – 9:360

Okay. Next, our land acknowledgement statement. Trustee Lamb. We acknowledge that the South San Francisco Unified School District is located on the unseated an ancestral homeland of the Ramatouch Aloney peoples who are the original inhabitants of the San Francisco Peninsula. We wish to pay our respects by acknowledging the ancestors, elders, and relatives of the Ramatouch community and by affirming their sovereign rights as first peoples. Thank you. Reporting out from close session. Nothing to report.

9:36 – 11:340

President Murray, I have one correction. Consent agenda item three. B certificated or excuse me, classified personnel assignment. The retirement date for Stella Marsek should read June 29th, 2026. Thank you. Um okay. Um PTA council remarks. Green button. Good to go. Good evening, President Murray, trustees, superintendent Moore. Hi, members of the cabinet and members of the community. My name is Rio Roberto Campbell, and this is my six sixth year volunteering in the PTA and my first year as PTA president. My children currently attend third and fifth grade at the at the school. We have a lot of upcoming events to highlight from our wonderful PTAs in the district this month. Spruce Elementary just had a movie night on April 10th. Burberry Bur Elementary is having restaurant nights at Nations on April 27th and 28th and Hunter Perosa is having a movie night on April 24th. I'd like to take a moment to share a bit about the Monie PTA. But first, I want to thank all the PTA members and PTA volunteers who are here with us tonight. Please stand and be recognized. PTA parents, come on. Wyus, thank you guys.

11:370

Thank you.

11:38 – 13:380

We're especially proud of the community events that bring our whole family together, like the welcome back event. uh Donuts and Coffee, the far the fall carnival, Craft Coco and Claus, Founders Day, and of course our numerous movie nights. These events are only possible because of our amazing staff, our dedicated executive board, our tireless PTA members and parent volunteers. We appreciate every single one of you with and it doesn't stop there. We also make sure to contribute to the magic that happens during school hours. We fund assemblies, field trips, the art and action program, the pumpkin contest, the holiday gift shop, math night, science festival, and of course the yearbook. These are just a few of the ways that the PTA makes each school year a vibrant and enriching experience. The Monvery PTA is fully aligned with the portrait of the graduate aims. Learn, navigate, thrive, and impact. For learn, we hold a book function, a book donation fundraiser every year where we not only raise funds but also gather to wrap the books in protective covers before donating them to our library. Because we believe in creating a safe space where our kids can learn through reading. An example of how the PTA helps students thrive. The fall carnival serves as a fun and active way to bring families together while promoting wellness and joy. The holiday gift shop teaches our students about real world skills like budgeting and planning. They get the chance to set a budget, make purchases, and adjust on the fly. It's a hands-on learning environment. Our Feast of Nations Founders Day event is a wonderful example of how we bring community together to make students feel like they belong. We encourage parents and students to dress in their cultural attire, provide cultural heritage entertainment, and my personal favorite, we ask parents to bring in food or desserts to share. To close, I would

13:36 – 14:080

like to take a moment to acknowledge that we are all here because we care deeply about the kids. Nothing makes me happier than seeing our students grow, thrive, and be confident, capable individuals. Thank you. And if there are no questions, that's our report for the evening. Thank you very much. It occurs to me that I was PTA president 20 years ago this year at Monty Birdie. Seems like yesterday, right?

14:05 – 16:040

That was the last time. So I expect you up here and at some point. Thank you. So next um staff association representatives remarks. South San Francisco Federation of Adult Educators, Elizabeth Bales, South San Francisco Classroom Teachers Association, Sher Juie. Good evening, President Murray, board trustees, Dr. more cabinet and South San Francisco community. My name is Sheri Juie, president of SSFTA, dually representing both our certificated educators across the district tonight and the school where I teach, Manderie. Fly like an eagle. I want to express my gratitude for the partnership we have been developing. We are all here because we believe in our students and we know that for them to thrive, our schools must be supportive environments for everyone. Our increased intentions to make collaboration possible at many levels proves that we share a commitment to thriving learning communities. Tonight, I'd like to touch on three areas where we can work together to strengthen our district culture and honor our professional agreements. First, a collaborative inclusion and contractual integrity. SSSCTA understands that there will be a concerted effort in special education next year to increase the participation of students in a least restrictive environment.

16:02 – 18:000

We fully embrace the philosophy of the least in uh restrictive environment or LRE. Inclusion is not just a legal mandate. It's a commitment to equity. To make it work, however, we must learn, sorry, we must lean into training and support necessary to create an optimal environment. I will refer to our contract language from article 8 of our agreement that states prior to a full inclusion student being placed in a regular education class, the regular classroom teacher shall receive during paid time full inclusion training. Advanced training and certification shall also be provided in certain cases. The contract also mentions instructional assistance and materials when required by an IEP. Finally, our language also states that no regular age education class shall have more than two full inclusion students. When we place students in general education settings without the specific supports outlined in our contract, we aren't truly fulfilling the promise of LRE. We ask the district to collaborate with us in a sightby-sight review to ensure that every inclusion classroom is staffed according to our agreed upon standards. This includes push classes, co-taught classes, and classes that might be impacted by the dissolution of SDC classes. Second, honoring our investment in new educators. We are encouraged by the district's partnerships with teacher residency programs like Alder. These residents spend a significant amount of time co-eing with our best mentors, learning

17:57 – 19:330

our district's culture. The district has implemented this program with the clear intent of priority hiring, but currently only one out of four alder residents here in the district in this cohort have has been hired. We have done the training. Now we must treat these candidates as the valuable assets they are by hiring them. Letting homegrown talent walk away is a missed opportunity for our students and a waste of resources. And finally, my third topic for tonight is teacher retention through compassionate transfers. I want to discuss teacher retention. We have dedicated staff members struggling in work environments they find deeply challenging. Our contract allows for voluntary transfer requests. Using these as a proactive tool can save careers. By approving these requests, we show veteran teachers that we value their professional growth and well-being. is far better to move an experienced educator to a new site where they can flourish than to lose them to another district entirely. I have talked to many educators this year who would like to try sharing their expertise at a new site, but they have been turned down by administrators for the change. We are ready to sit down and find solutions that work for everyone. Thank you very much for your time and consideration this evening. Have a great month.

19:30 – 20:110

Thank you. Okay, so next is um CSCA chapter 197 Jolene Malfi. Okay. Super um items from the board. No, I'm sorry. Personnel Commission. We have a special meeting of the Personnel Commission next Tuesday, April 28th, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. in the district office boardroom. Thank you. Items from the board.

20:12 – 22:110

Uh I'd like to update uh the community about we had uh facilities subcommittee meeting update. Uh the subcommittee met on Thursday, April 16. Members were were uh Trustee Richardson, Dr. Moore, Mr. O, and Director Shelton, and myself. Uh here's a brief update from the facilities subcommittee. Several major projects are moving forward in the design phase, including Sunshine Gardens, Lasertos, uh Monte Verde, Spruce, and both high schools. Most are on track with construction timelines beginning as early as summer 2027. In construction, the uh El Camino High School, cafeteria, and central kitchen projects are pro progressing well and expected to be completed by summer 2026 along with the West Borro middle school field project. We also continue to address legacy DSA certification projects and we'll be bringing several contracts and uh service agreements forward to today's board meeting for approval. Overall projects are progressing uh steadily and we appreciate the team's continued work. Uh Mina, do you want to add on? You are good. the the committee received um updates on the legacy projects and those were the projects that were left over from the last bond program that was they were not finished. Um to date of the 23 projects nine are left to finish. So, we're moving forward with uh the

22:08 – 22:490

remodernization and sooner than later we will be enjoying brand new schools. Thank you. Thank you. We also have a board bylaws committee scheduled for tomorrow at 3 p.m. in the district boardroom. Thank you. 3 p.m. tomorrow. Um Thank you. Um, Trusty Lamb, did you want to give a report on the progress the progress seminar? Oh, I I can do that.

22:46 – 24:410

Okay. Yes. So, um, this past weekend, um, I attended the, uh, 2026 progress seminar. Um actually trustee Anthony also attended. Um and so I just first I want to thank the board for uh allowing me this opportunity to attend. It was my first time uh attending. Um it was an invaluable experience to be able to network with our Sanonteo County leaders and attend sessions on is issues such as AI, housing, biotech and transportation. Um a few takeaways uh from the conference. Um first of all um fostering AI literacy is going to be really important um especially to support uh human- centered models uh rather than like texted ones um in order to use AI more for the greater good. Um so I think for us that means uh really continuing to prioritize uh teaching about using AI responsibly. Um second um it's going to take collective leadership to ensure all residents can uh prosper and thrive. um in terms of like Santo County and the region um economic growth and competit and competitiveness is at risk of decline if we don't address the obstacles that are holding us back. So that includes um things like matching jobs and skills to industry and increasing the pipeline for more child care and affordable housing. Uh that's especially critical for those newer to the workforce and who need these resources to thrive. Uh so uh that said, I I do believe our district is part of the solution um to these uh ongoing challenges uh with our CTE programs, adult education programs, and the science and biotech uh curriculum. Uh South San Francisco, you know, the city and you know, the district was widely praised um as a model um in terms of its childcare programs uh which many of our families benefit, but of course there's more work to be done. So again, thank you for the opportunity to attend the progress seminar.

24:42 – 25:050

Thank you. And congratulations to Amy on being named area three representative for the Santo County School Board Association. Huh? We haven't voted on that for being nominated as the area three that that just happened today

25:01 – 26:590

as CPA. Um the board approved for mine um the the board approved for me to attend the AXA CSBA coast to coast Washington DC federal advocacy trip. It was very successful. We spoke to many legislators including Kevin Mullen, Nancy Pelosi, Sam Licardo, Adam Schiff, Alex Padilla and more. The three main priorities we advocated for were one full funding of IDA um highlighting highlighting a large gap between the promised 40% and the actual funding of 12 to 13% with a request for 16 billion. We'll see how that works. And then um two, responsible AI um in education calling for a consistent national policy framework with funding and resources. And three, career technical education funding pushing to increase and stabilize federal support Perkins v to at least $2 billion. And it was a great trip and thank you. Um so next superintendent report. Thank you, President Murray. So, every year, seniors at El Camino High School take on a passion project. Students spend the year exploring a topic they truly care about. They research, they select a mentor, they conduct interviews, and complete volunteer hours connected to their projects. The senior English teachers support students with resources and guidance every step of the way. Throughout this process, students build important skills like managing projects, communicating professionally, and researching and analyzing information, making a meaningful impact in their communities, which helps them to prepare for college or future careers. On April 10th, families, staff, and community members gathered at the Passion Project Exposition to see our seniors present their work. The range of topics showed just how curious and creative our senior class is. Students explored everything

26:57 – 28:560

from barber shops to fashion to housing prices in the Bay Area, the dropout rate and flight schools, social media's impact on mental health, culinary arts, oral health, and many, many more topics. The hallways were filled with trifold displays, artwork, and even a basketball hoop. Every project was different, a reflection of the unique students who make up the class of 2026. and I had the privilege of observing students, talking with them, asking them questions about their research, and it was really just a perfect way for our students to exemplify all four of our portrait of a graduate aims. My second item is on the community learning exchange. I wanted to congratulate our team on a successful community learning exchange which took place last Wednesday. We had 119 family members, nine staff, and 17 community partners who attended this event. It was wonderful to hear from our parent, educator, and students. and it continues to deepen our focus on belonging and amplified as a critical component needed to ensure that our students feel seen, heard, and cared for at our schools. A big shout out to Dr. Garcia, our community liaison, our student family services teams, particularly Miss K Rebecca Cio and Miss Wanita Flores for their incredible efforts to coordinate, communicate, and collaborate across educational partners. My third item, I want to share with the board and community insights about our learning walks. And so I want to take a moment to highlight some important progress that we are seeing across our district as we continue to strengthen instructional leadership and bring greater coherence to our system. This spring we're very intentional about naming a key shift. While we have invested in what, which is our curriculum and our professional learning and our data systems, our next level of impact is in our how and the how we lead. That means ensuring that our leaders are consistently in classrooms using evidence to guide decisions and coaching teachers in ways that lead to stronger student outcomes. We are already seeing progress through our academic discourse learning walks. Most of our schools improved from cycle one to cycle 2. I want to briefly recognize Altaloma Middle School, Burberry Berry

28:54 – 30:530

Elementary School, and Ponderosa Elementary School whose leaders and teams made significant gains in student engagement and discourse in their classrooms. In the interest of time, I'm not going to share the specific areas of growth that each of these schools made. However, I plan on bringing that back at our May 7th meeting. What we are seeing is that when we align our leadership, our instructional practices, and our supports, we begin to create more consistent and meaningful learning experiences for our students. That is really what this is about, coherence. This work is directly connected to our district priorities. Belonging because students engage more deeply when they feel seen and valued. exceptional instruction through academic discourse because students are learning more when they are they are thinking, talking and making meaning together and strong math instruction as we implement our new curriculum with integrity and purpose. When these come together, we create classrooms where students are not just compliant but they are truly engaged, challenged and stri and thriving, excuse me. We still of course have work to do, but I am proud of the progress that we are making in the commitment of our leaders and all of our educators to continuously improve in service of our students. And my last item is on the South San Francisco Unified School District and SSFTA executive team quarterly stepbacks. This year, our district has continued to strengthen its partnership with the South San Francisco Classroom Teachers Association through intentional structures, consistent communication, and a shared commitment to improving outcomes for students. One practice we are especially proud to have established is our quarterly stepbacks which brings our cabinet and our CTA leadership together in a collaborative space to celebrate progress to surface challenges and to work through them together. Our conversations this year have focused on key areas such as strengthening systems and clarity of expectations, including PLC's, annual planning processes, professional learning calendars, and use of collaboration time, co-designing meaningful professional learning that honors teacher voice, and improving communication, responsiveness, educational equity, and belonging. At the heart of this work, it is a shared belief that strong labor management

30:51 – 31:320

relationships are essential to strong school systems. These sessions reflect our commitment to authentic partnership and have helped to ensure alignment between the district and union leadership. Through through stepbacks, excuse me, ongoing labor management meetings and increased site level engagement, we will continue to build a culture that's grounded in trust, transparency, and shared responsibility. We look forward to continuing this practice next year and building on the strong foundation that we have established. And with that, that concludes my report. President, thank you very much. Okay, student trustee report. Izzy Ruiz, Spring Student Trustee, and ASB President, El Camino High School.

31:31 – 33:290

Good evening, board members, cabinet, and community. My name is Isabelle Izzy Ruiz, and it's my honor to represent El Camino tonight. I hope you all enjoyed the lovely weather today after some April showers. As some of you may remember, April 10th was a packed day for El Camino. We had our eighth grade family night, APD auditions, and senior passion project expo. It was so lovely seeing our community show up and support our seniors. And thank you to Trusty Anthony for stopping by my presentation. I hope you enjoyed. And our APD cast list for the 2026 to 2027 school year is also out. So congratulations to all our dancers. Prom was April 11th in the beautiful and iconic SF city hall. Despite the rain, our Colts had a blast under the city of stars. We danced the night away, enjoyed delicious eats, played games, and captured memories on both on our regular photo booth and a 360 platform. It was truly a night to remember. I also hope South City enjoyed their trip to Wonderland last Saturday and had an incredible and safe prom. On April 17th, we held our annual ICC food court of the school year during lunch. ICC food court is an opportunity for clubs to fundra as well as give us some fun op options for lunch. This year's theme was centered around movies, so our clubs picked items from movies to bring to life. We had ravioli bites to represent Ratatouille, ice cream sundaes for Home Alone, Kalúa pork sandwiches for Moana, and so much more. I unfortunately was homesick and missed out, but I heard that everything was absolutely delicious. To start off the update for this week, I'd like to begin by saying happy assistant principles week to the APS in our district. Thank you for all the hard work you do for our community and the awareness commission and leadership has been hard at work creating ways to celebrate our admin team. Tomorrow, our college and career tech, Mr. Mark, is hosting our spring into summer event during flex. This is a showcase opportunity to meet with guides, build real world connections, explore pathways and possibilities. If that didn't already sound like fun, there's also raffle giveaways, and so much more. Dance show is officially here. Opening night is tonight, but don't worry, there are plenty of shows for you to catch.

33:28 – 35:150

There's one showing tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. and two on Saturday, a 1 p.m. matinea and the final showing being at 7:00 p.m. Don't miss out on the opportunity to see our talented dancers led by Miss Stevenson. Next week to celebrate the last month of the school year, we're starting off strong with recognition week, farewell rally, and spring on the green night market. To get us in the mood, we're doing a spirit sign out spirit week to correspond with the recognition week. Each day, we're going to be highlighting different organizations on campus by decorating the halls with die-cut symbols that represent the activity as well as the names of those who participated. For example, Monday is Jersey Day, and we will have the names of all our student athletes on die cuts of their sports. Next Friday, May 1st, is a busy day full of memories. For our seniors, it's decision day and our last ever rally. Senior office has planned activities for decision day to celebrate the next steps for our seniors. And we also have our annual spring on the green. However, this year we are inviting the entire community to join us for the fun. Not only will it be a traditional night of games, music, and food checks, but we'll also be having local vendors in our community selling out of stalls. Tickets are $10 to purchase and a stall is 35. So, if you're interested in attending or know vendors, please let me know. It's sure to be a night of fun, and you're all invited to join us on Colt Field from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. on Friday, May 1st. May 5th is senior awards night at 7:00 p.m. So, please join us to celebrate our seniors for all the hard work they've contributed to El Camino for the past four years. And finally, as we end the year of end the year of the school year, our spring sports season is about to come to a close. Track senior night was on the 14th, swim was on the 17th, and Batman is next Tuesday. There's still time to catch a match before the season ends, so don't miss out. This concludes my report, and unless there's any questions or concerns, thank you for your time and attention, and good luck to all our students as we come close to AP testing.

35:170

Thank you.

35:19 – 37:190

Okay, Jamie Lynn Ooa, fall student trustee and ASB president, South San Francisco High School. Good afternoon board cabinet and community. My name is Jalano Choa and it's my pleasure to be representing South San Francisco High School. It feels like the end of the year of the school year is approaching way too quickly. But before we start, looking forward towards the end, South City has a few more events up their sleeve. On April 15th, our drama department hosted a spring carnival featuring local vendors, face painting, games, fortuneelling, and much more. Last Saturday on April 18th, South City held their prom at San Francisco's Great American Music Hall from 6:30 p.m. to 1000 p.m. Guests enjoyed unlimited finger foods like horse divorce and chimuri chicken. For their main entry, they all got to make their own bow with barbecue pulled pork and or honey soy chicken, chocolatecovered cupcakes, covered chocolate covered strawberries, and chocolate chip as well as M&M cookies were served as desserts along with mocktails such as Shirley Temples, and much more were served for drinks. Guests had the opportunity to take advantage of casino tables, a photo booth with both physical and digital copies, and there were many photographers throughout the event taking pictures for us to look back at. Overall, everyone reported back to having an enjoyable time and definitely made lasting memories. This week is Earth Week. Our Earth Club has prepared various events for this week. On Tuesday, they had a flower fest where each individual got to plant their own flowers in our very own outdoor learning space. On Wednesday, they held a protest during lunch and marched around the school to demonstrate that they are fighting for change. Today, they held an earth tank. Each student got to share their craziest idea for the outdoor learning space. The winner will

37:17 – 39:160

be having their suggestion implemented. Tomorrow they will host a weed picking competition and the winning group will receive a paid lunch of their choosing. The SSFHS Earth Club reminds everyone to be green and keep our planet clean. Our spring musical, Ride the Cyclone, has their opening show tomorrow, Friday, April 24th at 700 p.m. and Saturday, April 25th with one starting at 1:00 p.m. and the closing show starting at 7:00 p.m. Student and staff admission is just $8 and general admission is $10. So, make sure to buy your tickets at the door or through GoPan. Come support our drama department and enjoy seeing the craziest ride of your life. AVID is holding their semiannual taco feed this Friday, April 24th, from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Tickets are currently being sold for $15 and will be available for $20 at the door. There will be an additional show on Sunday, May 10th at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $15 for students, children, and seniors. Prices will be increasing if purchased at the door. I highly recommend purchasing a ticket as soon as possible through GOP or through a current FOD student. South City's National History Days Day

39:14 – 40:460

qualifiers will head to Sacramento and compete in the National History Day State competition on May 2nd. Good luck to the students participating. We know you'll make South City proud. Next week is senior week. There will be a spirit week for students throughout the week of April 27th through May 1st. Monday is dream big. All students are encouraged to come dressed in their pajamas. Tuesday is study buddies. Come into school matching with a buddy. Wednesday is once a warrior always a warrior. Wear blue or south city merch. Thursday is career day dress to represent your future career. And for decision day on Friday we will have a college spirit day. Students will wear college gear and represent the school they are committing to. I love to give a special thank you to Miss Eileen, Miss Oira, Miss Johnson, and Miss Yun for coming up with their lunchtime activities throughout that week, which consists of a scavenger hunt, poster signing, a photo booth, and much more. We can't wait to see what the future holds for everyone. AP exam is right under is right around the corner. I would like to wish all students taking exams a happy studying and good luck on all their exams. Finally, my seniors are here tonight advocating for something we all care about. I ask that you all truly listen to what they all have to say and take their perspective seriously as they reflect the voices of students who have not only spent the last four years growing up in the school but also committed to this school. I hope we can all collectively make everyone feel heard, seen, and valued. And if there are no further questions, this concludes my report. Thank you.

40:48 – 42:470

42:48 – 44:140

so the first person is um Kimberly Quintana, South San Francisco High School. Um, good e good evening board cabinet and committee members. My name is Kimberly Kintana and I am currently serving as senior social chair at South San Francisco High School. Thank you for Thank you again for giving me the opportunity to speak with you tonight. This is now my second time coming before you to advocate for grad night. As it is my responsibility to plan this event and represent the voices of the senior class. After six years without a grand night, I strongly believe it is time for a change. One that reflects the dedication and spirit of our graduating class. This year's seniors have worked incredibly hard to reach this milestone. And they deserve a meaningful and memorable way to celebrate the end of their high school journey. As senior associate chair, I made a commitment to the student body when I was elected to advocate for their ideas and help them bring to life. Without the ability to follow through on those promises, it becomes difficult to f fully carry out the the purpose of my role. I am here. Thank you.

44:12 – 44:320

Thank you. Um, next, Lauren Agu. Lauren Aguilar from South San Francisco High School. Lauren Aar.

44:30 – 45:350

Hello, my name is Lauren Aguilar and I'm here today to advocate for Coach Tema Cervantes and for the South San Francisco wrestling team. Although I did not wrestle at South San Francisco High School, Coach Tema Cervantes has been a great help for me in my journey as a young adult. I wrestled out at Berlingame High School where I was commemorated by the San Mateo High School uh board, not only for my citizenship but for my awards. And without Coach Temo, I wouldn't have been able to do that. He motivated me not only as a young athlete but as a female athlete to be able to advocate for what I want and what I need in my community to push me beyond my efforts to reach the goals that I preached. I think that he deserves to be heard for what he has to say and to be wrongfully accused of what had happened. I just, you know, really ask that he is hurt out. I believe that is unfair that he comes time and time again and is not listened to and not responded to. Thank you.

45:32 – 46:000

Thank you. What I'm going to do is I'm going to call I'm going to call three names and if you guys can line up. Um, so the first one is Jeremy NS, Marco Ramirez, and Ben Schloo. Okay. Um, Marco Ramirez. Okay. So, Jeremy,

45:58 – 46:530

hello. Good evening. My name is Jeremy Ing and I am a wrestler from South San Francisco. I'm here to support my coach, Coach Temo Cervantes. I want to say he's changed my whole life. I I have more direction in my life because of him and because of this sport. I've met so many more people and I have so many more of my connections. If I hadn't joined the sport, I wouldn't have a lot of friends here and I wouldn't have the same goals I I just want to I just really hope that you guys will give coach Timos a chance to be heard and allow him to return back to coaching. Thank you.

46:500

Thank you. Marco Ramirez.

46:58 – 48:030

Thank you, board. Thank you, community. Uh my name is Marco Ramirez. Um, I actually don't have anything written down, so I hope I don't embarrass my daughter, but um, uh, I've run I've been here South City my whole life, and I have a, uh, photo booth business I've been doing for 11 years. And, uh, I've been fortunate to do, uh, uh, events for, uh, Aloma and even South San Francisco um, along with the, uh, the Wonderland prom that was recently mentioned by the TR trustee. So, um I'm just trying to get my word out there. I I I uh I just want to support my community. I've been here and I plan to be here for the rest of my life. But, uh I do have some samples here of what I do. Uh I do have the photo booth like I mentioned. I also do an overhead 360 which is different from the platforms. It's much safer and and it has more people that you can add. And I also do have uh printed uh edible cookies that uh I could put as samples so you could look at. Thank you. Thank you.

48:17 – 49:180

Good evening. My name is Ben Schvy. I'm here to speak on behalf of Coach Temo Cervantes. Um I've known him about five and a half years. He's coached my son Ellie and along with the many students that are here today to support him. Um I'm asking that the board strongly consider to reinstate his uh coaching position back at South City High. um not just to coach the students, boys and girls there, but what he has done, what I've observed him do in the community the past five years, voluntarily taking these students to wrestling tournaments uh throughout the state of California that he does on his own time, his own free will. And a lot of these students wouldn't have the opportunity without him. And without reinstating him for that, a lot of these students at South San Francisco are missing out on a great opportunity in wrestling, which has become one of the fastest growing sports, not only in the United States, but in the Bay Area, and partly because of uh Coach Tammo. Thank you.

49:150

Thank you.

49:20 – 50:060

Okay. Um, so Isaac Stomper Sto Soer. Um, myri vegan vegan and Gavin Dwenz. I'm sorry if I'm messing up your name. Good evening, members of the board. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to speak tonight. Uh my name is Isaac Stamper and I'm a senior at South San Francisco High School. Um over the past four years, I've built a connection with

50:03 – 50:480

all all of my class. Um I've witnessed them become young adults. Um when our ASB president came into our class and presented grad night, I was excited, you know, because all of uh the struggles, everything just celebrated. Um when I found out that it was canceled due to funding, I was upset. And um I just speak to you today in hopes that uh you will support our grad night and help our senior dreams become a reality. Thank you. Thank you, Isaac.

50:43 – 52:010

Okay, McKenzie Vegan. Good evening, schoolboard members and community. My name is McKenzie. I was always taught to fight for what I believe in, no matter what the cost is. I believe in Coach Temo. He is the best coach I have had and I have been in sports for five since I was 5 years old. The first wrestling practice I had ever gone to, he was the one that welcomed me in and helped me to get to where I am now. Without him, I don't think I would have even competed in my first tournament. If you have ever taken the time to watch Coach Temo, coach, you know he is the nicest, funniest coach you will ever meet. But he will also push you to be the best you can be. When Coach Temo was gone, I felt like something was empty on and off the mat. When I was at practice, anytime that wrestling door opened, I I hoped that it was going to be him standing there and waiting to watch or standing there waiting to coach me. For a while, I didn't believe in myself and even thought about quitting. I come here to speak to you all for one huge reason. That reason is that I know Coach Temo has always and will always believe in me. So, it's time for me to show how much I believe in him. Like I said, I will always fight for what I believe in. Thank you.

51:56 – 53:030

Thank you, McKenzie Gavin. Good evening board members, cabinet, and my South City community. My name is Gavin Duyas and I'm a senior at South San Francisco High School. I learned that we had the funds to have our grad night or trip. We had fundraised thousands of dollars for this and later to be told that we can't use these funds is just unfair. We honestly don't mind the activity. We just want the opportunity to use the funds that we have raised and the feeling of belonging within our class of 2026 one last time. Thank you for your time. Thank you. Okay, the next three are Danielle Vegan, Daniel Brookter, and Son Chavez. years old.

53:030

You speak into the

53:04 – 54:000

Yeah. UNI at Uniperos Sarah at Terteranova High School. Uh he's even been in uh you know private MMA gyms, Outlaw Jiu-Jitsu, Dragon House. his best uh teacher, his best coach that he's ever had is Temo CVantes. Temo taught him how to do a single leg takedown. And I was there when this happened. He wouldn't let my boy give up. He wouldn't let him relent until it was drilled into him, until he perfected it. And that's the kind of devotion I haven't seen from any of the many skilled, many talented and devoted coaches at other programs. But none of them uh match Teo Cvantes. And uh he is a to a gem, an absolute gem of a human being and a phenomenal coach and the best way forward is to bring him back. Everybody deserves to be treated correctly and fairly. Bring back coach tel.

53:56 – 54:070

Thank you. So you or Daniel? Okay. Danielle. Danielle. Yes.

54:04 – 54:560

Okay. My two daughters have been part of the rest of practice and still investing time inspiring. He doesn't tough loss after hard work. students don't creates an environment since his departure noticeable change.

55:08 – 55:330

Thank you. Can I hopefully speak in the microphone? Anybody who's listening, the captioner has to hear your voice through the microphone in order to be able to caption. And we have that for not only our trustees, but also people at home. So, please, not saying that you weren't going to, but please speak in the microphone.

55:33 – 56:530

Good evening. My name is Sonia Chavez. I am a parent volunteer from the wrestling program. My daughter Luciana is a sophomore at South City High. She became more confident, strong physically and mentally and motivated under his wrestling team guidance. For the fir for the past two years, I've volunteered alongside Temo Cervantes on the wrestling team. Um I witnessed him built a culture of discipline, structure, and trust, giving students stability and a strong sense of community. His abrupt removal and now termination has caused significant harm. After months of rumors and investigation, many students expected his return. Instead, they are now mourning the loss of a coach, a mentor, and the structure they depended on. Throughout this process, there has been little to no communication. Families were left without answers, forfeited half of the season and tournaments, left without a coach for pals, and students were forced to process the situation on their own without guidance or support. The impact has been severe. The team missed half its season. Students had left the program, and what was once a strong, stable environment has been disrupted. I urge the district to take responsibility, reinstate Coach Temo. Thank you. Thank you. Okay. Luciana Shaver, Cordell, U Vali Vegan, and Michael Schlance.

56:57 – 58:020

Hi, my name is Luciana. I'm a wrestler on the South San Francisco wrestling team. I want to advocate for my coach Temo. First of all, I want to say how accepting he was. He would motivate anyone to join the team and he was always accepting. Not only that, he was truly like a life-changing coach. I've had coaches before who have not put in the same effort, who doesn't care that much for the team, but he was truly someone that cared for their teammates no matter what. He has changed me to be a better person. He has motivated me to do so much more, and I would not be the person that I am today without him. He's always there and he's always including of everyone there. He's always wanted us to recruit more people to join the wrestling team. And not only that, we were shipped of not what we could have. Yeah. He would always do the extra. And not only that, he would give us morning practices, late night practices. I remember I would go to the Gator team and he'd always be there as a Green Mason coach. Thank you.

58:000

Thank you. Yi,

58:17 – 59:350

can you make sure that it's on green and that you speak into the mic? My name is Kaylee and I am 12 years old. I am a wrestler of SSF Gators. I have been wrestling for about 8 months. Although I have only been wrestling for a short amount of time, he has really changed my life in a lot of ways. I have a lot of amazing memories that I shared with Coach Temo, which I have been one of the big which has been one of the biggest highlights of my wrestling career. It was my first ever wrestling coach I met and got taught by. One of my favorite memories with Coach Temo was my first match. I was so scared of my first match to do it, but Coach Temo comforted me and helped talk me through. I I didn't think I was going to be okay, but he said I would do great. And those words before the match helped me with my wrestling career to this day. Another one of my favorite memories was with Coach Temo in the state girls wrestling tournament. I was so scared, but he also uh did a really good speech and helped me through it. Thank you for listening to

59:320

my speech. Michael,

59:44 – 1:00:500

hello. My name is Michael Schlavyy and I'm a former alumni wrestler at El Camino and I wrestle at Skyline now. And I would like to say coach Demo personally saved my life. He's been there ever since. I've started wrestling ever since my freshman year. I used to get in trouble a lot and then he pulled me aside. He talked to me and he believed in me when no one else did. And I remember the early morning practices every day, every night. And I would be on the grind just trying to be better and better. And I personally never seen coach Dama do anything wrong to anybody. And he does not discriminate. He takes everybody in and he gives everybody 110%. And I'm genuinely want the world to see this and re-evaluate what he has done because he was cleared innocent. And I want to see why like the other people that put these allegations on them are not in trouble for this because this is a crazy allegation and it just doesn't really make sense to me and Coach Temo has just always been there from the start to the end till this day. Thank you.

1:00:47 – 1:01:000

Thank you. Okay, next. Kona Chan Ing, Michael J, and Henry Hamilton.

1:01:03 – 1:02:100

Hi, good evening. My name is Tona. I'm actually Jeremy's mom. Um, I did a lot of volunteering for the wrestling team and I wanted to actually support Temo today because I could see the change that he did with Jeremy and then also with the other wrestlers. He was very passionate about the sport and it showed. Um he was there at his free time on his own without you know having any support or anything like that but he would still show up. And so I wanted to make sure that I acknowledge all the supporters today because they actually you know are here for one person and that's Temo. and I wanted to make sure that he gets a fair chance at coming back to South San Francisco because he needs to be there for these kids. There's no way that there's anybody who can come in and just work with these kids the way that he did. Um I don't believe that uh anybody who was uh innocent should be treated unfairly. And so I am in support of getting Temo back to South San Francisco.

1:02:06 – 1:03:220

Thank you, Michael. Hi. Oh, thank you board for the opportunity to speak. Uh, my name is Michael. I'm the parent of a daughter and a son who have fallen in love with the sport of wrestling. And I'm here tonight to support coach Temo Cervantes. And because of what South City wrestling and the Cell City Wrestling Club has done for our family. Just want to start with what Temo actually does. Uh, he's a guy who just shows up, period. That's what he does. at a home meet, away meets up and down the California coast. And when he gets there, he doesn't just show up, he helps. It's coaching your kids. Another kid without a coach, a total stranger who looks scared. He's in their corner. Win or lose, smiles or tears. Temo helps all of our kids learn about what went well so they can celebrate the small wins, what didn't go well so they can work on it for next time, and how to move on to the next one. Uh beyond this, Teammo's really rallied the wrestling community in the Bay Area. He's been quietly bringing coaches and wrestlers together to work together and to uplift the sport of wrestling in this area. Saw this in demonstration the most recent state meets where there was a record number of folks from this area, both coaches and athletes. Thank you very much for your time,

1:03:19 – 1:04:230

Henry. Good evening board and cabinet members. I would, my name is Henry Hamilton and I'd like to recognize coach Tomo Cvantes as a very inspirational coach that I've had and his assistance and guid guidance through my time at South City. Although very short has been very impactful to me. I would like to acknowledge Coach Temo as one of the greatest coaches I've ever had and his dedication has influenced me to do well in all that I do in my grades, academics, and outside of school activities as well. Thank you for your time.

1:04:20 – 1:06:050

Thank you. The next three, uh, Fernando, Tony Allen, and Briana Rogers. Fernando, Fernando. Okay. Okay. Let's start with Tony Allen. Good evening. Um, my name is Tony Allen. I'm a resident of South San Francisco. My students, my children went to school here. I used to hang out at board meetings quite a bit. Might start doing it again. At any rate, um I came I come as a just a community member and I um wanted to talk about Mayday that is coming up and there is a Mayday strong and I had the opportunity of joining all your high school students when they did their walk out and as I can see here with this full room that South San Francisco students do like to speak up for themselves and that's really commendable. Okay. So, what I would what I'd like to encourage is the board and possibly in uh cooperation with PTA and uh the and CTA is to think about, you know, Mayday is a day that we don't know who's going to do no school. Sorry. Thank you.

1:06:02 – 1:07:280

Thank you. Um, Brianna Rogers. Good evening, members of the board. My name is Brianna Rogers and I am South City's senior class president. Every year, the class of 2026 has worked hard to raise money and fund raise under the assumption that we use we could use our funds for grant night. Over our four years, we have raised $13,000 through homecoming sales, prom sales, and multiple fundraisers. Most recently, Splash a Senior. This year, one of our goals as senior class was to be the first class in six years to have a grad night. Our planning began in November, and we communicated with our PTSA of our wishes. We were ultimately shut down, being told we needed proof of senior engagement and willingness to go. My senior commission and I went to every senior senior class promoting grad night, sending out forms to our senior class who was interested. Out of our 230 seniors, 120 seniors responded to the form, agreeing they wanted to have a grad night. We communicated our numbers with our principal, Bissi, and our school accountant, Mr. Tobal, and we were told we could not spend our $13,000. $13,000 we we put time and dedication into. $13,000 we could use to lower the cost of granite. Thank you so much. Okay, Fernando.

1:07:37 – 1:08:310

Oh, hi. My name is Fernando. Um, uh, uncle, um, the coach was my uncle. I've been doing it since first, uh, kinder. Uh, I've been doing it since I was five. He taught me how to um talk to people. I've had a lot of high school friends from there. He taught me how to stand up for myself. That is how I made friends and he was really a nice guy. He always taught me how to wrestle and I always went there after school feeling hyped and ready. Sometimes I even went for the high school for more practice. I really liked doing wrestling. It was the first sport I've ever done and he made me uh like myself and he made me want to stand up for myself and make friends. Uh, thank you.

1:08:28 – 1:08:560

Thank you. How old are you, Fernando? Fernando, how old are you? Nine. Thank you for coming and talking to us. Okay, the next people are Jennifer Rogers. I am not sure. Violet and Temo Cvante Senior.

1:09:03 – 1:10:410

Good evening, members of the school board. Thank you for giving the opportunity to speak tonight. My name is Jennifer Rogers and I'm a parent of Briana Rogers, the South San Francisco High School senior class president. I am here not as a parent, but as someone who has watched my child and her entire class work incredibly hard to make senior grad night possible. Senior grad night is more than just a celebration. It is a safe, structured, and meaningful way for students to mark the end of their high school journey. It provides a positive environment where seniors can come together one last time to celebrate their accomplishments and create lasting memories with their classmates. From a parents perspective, it represents something even deeper. It offers a safe but supervised space where our children can celebrate an important milestone together. Something that brings both comfort and peace of mind to families. What often goes unseen is a tremendous amount of work that goes into making this night happen. students have spent months planning, fundraising, organizing, and collaborating to bring this event to life. Thank you, Violet. Hi, my name is Violet and I'm here to support my uncle Temo and he um helped me um do wrestling and also he's a good coach.

1:10:42 – 1:11:080

Hello. Thank you, Violet. Hello. I'm Timo's brother-in-law. Timmo is really one of one of a kind. He sit there and goes above and beyond for students. It don't matter if he had the funding for or not. He'll sit there and make a way, make a plan, get it done. Let's bring back Timmo. Thank you. Shante, senior.

1:11:15 – 1:12:150

Hello. I'm here to speak on behalf of my son, Quo Serantis, who's a very good wrestling coach. I watched him coach. I've been to a lot of his tournaments. He actually coached me along with a bunch of his students that are here. Um, when I heard what happened about my son, he was very depressed. Haven't talked to him in a few months. kind of hurt me to know that he's been mistreated and was convicted of something that he he could never do to anybody. My son's good son. He's very good son. Awesome coach. He gets along with all his all his students. They all love him. He's funny. And I just want to say bring him back. He deserves a second ch. He deserves a chance. Not a second one because there's something that he he never did. So please bring him back. Give him a chance, you know, to speak up for himself. Thank you.

1:12:120

Thank you.

1:12:17 – 1:13:260

Okay, last is Mandy Vargas, Leon, Amir Baler, and Jocelyn Barreris. Hello board members. My name is Meli and I am a part of the South City wrestling team. With last season being my first season with coach Temo, he had always been in my corner supporting me through tough matches, especially mental matches. As as was always there, giving me confidence whenever I needed it, reassuring me, not only me, but all my teammates. Sadly, we had been stripped from finishing out this season with our coach over something that was simply not true. He was always there for everyone and anyone who who was interested in wrestling. He was a vital part of not only our South City wrestling team, but to our entire team in the Bay Area. He deserves to be heard out and given a second chance after as after all he has done nothing wrong. That's all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening. Thank you.

1:13:300

Bring back coach.

1:13:41 – 1:14:290

Good morning board cabinet in South City community. My name is Amir Bachan and I'm a senior at South City High School. When I heard the news about grad night, me and all my friends were so excited that we had to that we get to have fun with each other one last time before we go separate ways. And the school had us looking forward to it, but they ended up canceling it, which had everyone feeling betrayed on why they would do something like that. During the year, the ASB worked very hard on these fundraisers to make sure we have enough funding for trips like this. And the grad night is something I would look back on and tell my kids stories about, but that might not happen anymore. I'd like to end it off with one last statement. As my dad says, money always comes and goes, but our experiences are for life. Thank you.

1:14:260

Thank you. And last, Joselyn.

1:14:36 – 1:15:160

Hello. Oh, hi. My name is Joselyn Barrera and I am a senior here at South City High School. The senior class has worked hard to ensure every event has been a success preparing for this one night and we plan to put just as much dedication into this event, too. This is our one moment to be together as a class. Grad night will not just be for classmates, but a family. We aren't asking for your funds. We're asking for your support and allow us to use our funds to make a grad night special. I'm asking that we make a change for future senior classes and allow them to share a memory that we are working so hard to bring back. Thank you.

1:15:14 – 1:15:560

Thank you. So, I want to thank all of this all of the speakers tonight. We appreciate you coming before us. Um, in terms of the wrestling and coach temo, this is not something we can discuss at this point in time. It's a personnel issue and we can't discuss it. Um, in terms of grad night, Dr. Moore, can you look into that? Yes, I will follow up with the principal of the school. Okay. So, thank you very much everybody. And next is teaching and learning Monte Verie Elementary School. Dr. Kembell.

1:15:57 – 1:17:550

Good evening board, South City community. I have the pleasure of welcoming principal Mert to give us an update of all the great things happening at Montverde Elementary School. We'll let the room clear. I know that everybody's going home. Uh I'm Debbie Mert. I'm the proud principal of Monovery and we will start our presentation um with the portrait of a graduate just grounding in what our district priorities are. Uh at Monoverde, we actually have 11 of our staff members are actual graduates of South City and El Camino. I'm glad the South City people left because I went to El Camino. This is the kind of thing I have to put up with blue all over my office. Moving on. um in the classrooms now we would use discourse and I would say I agree with Rigo's analysis of the portrait of a graduate as uh of the monie implementation of the portrait of a graduate as so we'll move on this slide shows our actual demographics we do have 530 students. Some of the highlights are um our number of English learners has decreased to 9.5%. Which it used to run in the 20 to 25%.

1:17:56 – 1:19:560

Our attendance by tier uh nearly 76% of our students have satisfactory attendance. That's over 400. That's about 407 students. Uh we do have two students in the severe range which they receive calls constantly from us and I think Jackie has them on speed dial. It's amazing how easy it is to get a doctor's note from Kaiser. Not for workers, only for children. This shows our daily attendance. were in the 96% range for the past four years. Our attendance by subgroup shows that our lowest attendance rate is our socioeconomic subgroup at 95%. With our highest group being our Asian subgroup at 98%. So it's really only a difference of 3.1% between our highest and our lowest. The dibble screening shows that we do have some students in the red zone. Uh this ranges from two to 14% and we are supporting those students with our RTI program also known as literacy lab. This slide shows our 2025 CASP scores for English language arts and math. It's not fake news, but it is old news because Monver's already started testing for the 2026 season. Our goal is to maintain these numbers and maybe gain a couple of points, although it is really difficult to stay in that 78 range. Here

1:19:52 – 1:21:500

are our recaps by grade level for language arts performance for the past six years. And here are our maths. There is a little typo on this uh grouping. I wish our 79% our special ed was at 79% for math. Uh it is a little typo. It should be 39%. Um Miss Louie is working hard enough that it should be 79. So are her students, but they're just not there yet. We do have some differences among the scores of our subgroups. Our socioeconomically disadvantaged group were our lowest group. But if you remember a few slides before, they are the same group that's staying home a little bit more than the other groups. Have to be at school in order to learn. This slide is a combo slide showing science which was 64% of our students uh met the standard. The real highlight on this uh slide is that we only had 1.1% of our students scoring below the standard, which is outstanding to me. uh on the ELE or multilingual uh section of this slide, it shows that our students are making progress, but at having only 9.5% of our student population in this subgroup, we don't have a color anymore. It wouldn't be an Montvery presentation

1:21:48 – 1:23:470

without a little bit of construction news. Um I included a picture on the left. You can see what the kindergarten yard used to look like before March 28th. And on the right hand side, you can see what was taken on April 11th. The most recent peak that I took the other day showed that they are building the forms to for the foundation. This slide is dedicated to the impact we are working towards for our students feeling that they belong at Monverie which was in the 78% range on the student survey. Uh we have built student relationships across grade levels through grade level buddies which you can see on the right hand side. Uh for example, our fifth graders have buddies uh to write to them. They're getting ready uh for outdoor ed. So, their little buddies have been writing starting to write them letters that they will receive when they are at outdoor ed. And the fifth graders help the first graders do research for their animal projects. And they also have a nice relationship when they're walking through the school. They say hello to their buddy. they see them at through passing or when they're the others are performing for each other. Here are a few pictures of the highlights of experiences we have offered our students this year and as usual there are more to come. We still haven't had playday. We still will be having our um ultimate free choice. all things that the students enjoy. Uh it also shows

1:23:44 – 1:25:410

LEAP, our Santa visit, Lawrence Hall of Science Day, and our own game show. And if you can see well on the left hand side, that was our South San Francisco assembly with the fire department. And that was a former student of mine. as Mr. Amir is too. Uh, I'm going to skip the next slide and go back to it. This slide shows the portrait of an educator bulletin board in our office, which is actually pictures of all of us as students. I just want to recognize our Monoverty team of staff members who work with our students every day. It's not an easy job. It's a calling of service to work with children. I'm extremely fortunate to have such an outstanding staff to learn, work, and play with every day. And the other part of the team are the parents and especially our parent volunteers. We can't have all of these um team activities and all of the things that were able to build relationships and have the children enjoy being at school without the parents. Uh the group that I'm going to recognize tonight have been responsible for or supported for with Girls on the Run, movie nights, fundraising, yearbooks, ice cream social, math

1:25:37 – 1:26:580

nights, Santa night, anything. We just ask and they help. So without the act these activities, our school would not be the same. Thank you. Oh, let me call their names. We have Rio Campbell, Sandy Wyn Dwang, Grace Louie, Amy Sanchez, and Celia U. Oh, thank you.

1:26:540

And thank you for staying this late.

1:27:02 – 1:27:250

Can you have your staff stand up? Asking stand up, please. Thank you. Thank you.

1:27:24 – 1:28:180

Um, Trusty Richardson, would you like Do you have any questions or comments? I'm always in awe of how you manage your school. Everybody loves your school and it shows and the support, the teachers, and I every time you come here, I feel that much better. So, I thank you for everything you do, the volunteers, um Sherry, she's a gem, everybody here that's supporting our teachers and our students. Um, I'm in deep appreciation for all you do for our districts. Thank you so much.

1:28:16 – 1:28:370

Thank you, Jesse. Anthony. Thank you, Principal Mert. Um, it is wonderful to see the community that you've built and the standards of excellence that you uphold at your school. Um, I know that a lot of work goes into maintaining that 79% and it's wonderful to see and we're really glad that you're here. Thank you.

1:28:34 – 1:29:510

Thank you, Chie. Uh yes, first of all, thank you all for being here. Um and um I, you know, it's such a privilege to be part of the Monte Verie community for so many years. Thanks for being a home for my kids. Um you know, Josephine's there for a couple more years, so get to enjoy keep enjoying all the great things that everyone is doing together. So yeah, again, thank you for all of that. Um I think some some things um you know everything in the in the presentation of course just speaks to the yeah the the standard of excellence that you know continues. Um I mean something that uh really um I kind of noticed was in terms of the math like you know COVID everyone kind of suffered COVID but and yet um you know you managed to you know recover you know and I think in some cases even exceed you know past what was precoid. So, and I know there's been a lot of changes with curriculum and all these kinds of things um and all the subjects, but um everyone's um I don't know it just because I'm curious how you managed to do it with all the you know, especially recent changes. Um I know there's a lot of collaboration that must go into it, but do you have any limited 10 minutes?

1:29:46 – 1:30:360

Um actually, I just stand here. Uh I represent all of us. Um, I'd say that how do we do it? I'd say it's because the team works so well together and the grade levels work together and they work with each other to figure out solutions. Yeah. And that's that's what it's all about. So yeah, again, appreciate so much. Um, and also appreciate you being, you know, doing extra crosswalk duty. I know some, you know, been switching off with folks. That's been a challenge. I hope it's please if you need help please it's all right but uh hopefully our parents are behaving better and and I see the traffic

1:30:34 – 1:30:470

well I scolded him last week in the newsletter so thank you but someone did make a U-turn the other day in front of me ner

1:30:45 – 1:31:340

Dr. Thank you. Thank you so much for your short, sweet, and excellent presentation. Uh it's really encouraging to see Montyver's strong attendance with rates consistently in the mid to high 90s. It's amazing. And uh meaningfully reduction in the chronical absentees over time. And uh as my uh fellow or members also mentioned about the excellence on the ELA and math uh both of them are around 78% meeting and exceeding or exceeding standards that reflects solid performance. It's excellent. That is not an easy task at all. as you mentioned it's hard to continue but you guys are

1:31:31 – 1:32:120

I don't know about for next year's results when I uh report out uh as quickly as I got through the presentation someone finished their test yesterday so that's not good finger crossed but that's not it's not luck it's the solid uh instruction that and then you solid instruction correct and so Uh thank you for all the teachers and staff and families uh for creating such a positive and supportive school environment and your amazing leadership. Thank you. Thank you.

1:32:09 – 1:33:100

Thank you. And um yeah, thank you for all you do. I, as you know, I have a special place in my heart for Monty Vvery because all of my kids went through there and I was a PTA mom for almost 20 years at Monty Verie. And um I I think Monty Verdie is a magical place. it was when I was there way back when because not only do you have amazing staff, but you also have um an amazing parent volunteer base that that keeps on going year after year, you know. Um some schools they have like a strong PTA one year and then the next year they have, you know, only a few and it kind of goes like that. But you guys, Monty Verie, always has like strong parent volunteers, whether they're in PTA or they're just volunteering. And so the fact that that you guys all work together so well, I mean, it just makes for a magical place. You guys do an amazing job.

1:33:10 – 1:33:300

Thank you. Thank you. And now we're going to take a break. It's 8:28. We'll be back at 8:38. Thank you.

1:44:03 – 1:44:450

Welcome back everyone. Let's see. Next is the consent agenda. The following items are submitted for board approval. One motion will authorize action for those items so designated. Um we have one change on page 92 um human resources. It should be let's see there was a change in the date right on yes it should be June 29th 2026 for retiree Stella Marcel. Okay, I wrote it down, but I wasn't sure.

1:44:44 – 1:45:290

Okay, Trustee Richardson, talking to your mic. the for the March 26 regular meeting. I understand that I was not present for both of the items and um I voted abstain on both of them but I got a response requested it. You weren't there for the first the first item we voted on. So that's absent. You were there for the second one and you abstained. So, so it it is correct in the minutes, but they asked me to vote on it. You you didn't vote. You weren't there. You couldn't have voted on it. So, you voted on the second.

1:45:26 – 1:46:100

No, they they voted. If I may, President Murray and Trusty Richardson. So, the first item the board had already discussed and taken a vote. When you entered, they were in the middle of discussing the second item and then they were getting ready to vote and you abstained from the second item, not the first item. So, you are correct that they asked for what happened, but um it just seemed like I said I voted twice cuz I thought that's what but I didn't know there were two items. Okay, I guess I have to accept it like that. Okay, I withdraw my consideration.

1:46:07 – 1:46:450

Okay, thank you. Um I I would like to uh just well either discuss or pull aside the um 3G the educator and special assignment jobs description. Um I there was some uh I know we had the board had received some feedback from um a staff member about um like certain scope just so I don't know if we we could uh I guess how should we proceed like um maybe we can do one motion to approve um all but 3G yeah 3G

1:46:43 – 1:47:280

with the change for the certificate of the classified personnel order. So I'll make a motion to pass the consent agenda with removal of 3G, everything but 3G and the change noted on 3B. I second. Okay. So we have a motion by Trusty Anthony and a second by Dr. Sheay with the change for 3B and and what was the other part of it too? Um and then not talking about 3G and talking about that separately without 3G. Um, all in favor? I I Wait a minute. Wait. Is that coming back or So, it won't we'll we'll discuss.

1:47:27 – 1:48:090

No, we're just going to discuss it right now. Coming back. Yeah, we'll discuss right now. And then we'll we we may vote on it still. We may so that the board could see what's We may still vote on We haven't proposed any changes yet. We haven't proposed any changes yet. This is Trusty Lamb has has requested that we pull 3G for discussion. But not that we will necessarily change anything. Oh, just to pull that item for discuss on the rest for now. Okay. So, did you get the motion? Okay. Okay. Motion carried. Um and now we're going to discuss 3G now.

1:48:08 – 1:48:520

Okay. Um yeah, I know there was uh how should I say? So I I think there were some yeah there were some uh just concerns or questions raised um from a community member about um some some of the job description u well actually first of all let me preface like all job descriptions I I I believe are reviewed by the union um the unions and um yeah could you speak like are there like are there are people in the positions also um consulted in that. Yes, thoroughly.

1:48:49 – 1:49:490

Okay, great. Um so I think of the concerns uh well how should I say I would say like my um of my concern is more about um uh some of the there's some of the bullet points regarding um like uh uh grant writing or um well it says assist with of identifying funding opportunities and grant writing um as well as progress monitoring and reporting uh for grants. Um, so I think I believe there's some concern about like this is like added scope to what has traditionally maybe not been included in the kind of TOSA or EESA uh role, but uh is that the case that this is sort of a new like grant supporting grants and reporting on grants? Is that like a new scope or

1:49:46 – 1:50:320

uh in just many of our discussions which have been several months with our colleagues in CTA uh we raised as an example that teachers on special assignment may be uh invited to support say for example if we were reporting on a state or federal grant and they had knowledge of or were supporting uh work streams tied to that grant. So there is no expectation whatsoever that a an educator on special assignment would be required to uh do anything beyond that per se. So this would they are not taking on an administrative responsibility and I wanted to state that unequivocally for the record.

1:50:29 – 1:52:290

Yeah, thank you for that. And then I think the other yeah there were some other issues which I I personally felt were already um in included in the uh job description but um I know there was some like in terms of like partnerships like uh collaborations with partnerships I believe that's already included the job description but that was one of another piece that was um just a piece of concern um from this community member. Um, and then I think there was another piece regarding um, like monitoring budgets, but that um, in the job description there was something about just having an ability to um, manage and plan and know coordinate programs and budgets um, in coordination with the supervisor. So to me that doesn't sound like a role is that um in terms of like budget monitoring like that's it's more about speaking to ability versus like an actual role and responsibility. Would would that be correct? Sorry throwing a lot on here. Great question. Thank you. So that is within the normal scope. for example, um you know, there might be specific ordering that needs to happen based on like the content area. Um or for example, like a TK classroom has special things that are needed, right? Um and then in line with, you know, we write an LCAP, we have initiatives that we're saying like, you know, we're going to focus in this area to see this result. So therefore, money is allocated for that. And so there is a level of understanding what has been encumbered to make sure that we're not going over the allotted amount. Um so those wouldn't be viewed as um like new responsibilities. It's just being very explicitly laid out in this job description.

1:52:27 – 1:53:300

Gotcha. Okay. Yeah. Thank you. Um does the district have a grant writer or is it something that uh Okay, just individuals take on. I mean I just think about this. I understand you know grant writing is itself its own job. It's not a thing that you would do as a curriculum instruction specialist. But I also think about in the role that I have in my day job, I just get across people send me things across the across my desk that are like, "Oh, here's this thing. Oh, I know that you do some stuff with economic mobility. Like, here's this thing. Maybe you want to apply it." And I'm like, "Oh, here. Let me forward that to the right person in the district." But I have then assisted, right? So, um, it's it's good to hear that, you know, the plan is not that this person is going to be a part-time grant writer, that they're focusing on the curriculum and instruction. And in so far as they are in groups where they're hearing about instruction, instructional grants or materials grants or things like that, they can pass that on, share it. Is that how I'm kind of understanding the the grant piece? Okay, great.

1:53:27 – 1:53:530

Okay. Do I have a motion? Um, yeah. I'll I'll move to approve the ESA uh job roll. A second. Okay. So, we have a motion by Trusty Anthony, a second by Dr. Shay. All in favor? I I motion carried.

1:53:49 – 1:54:300

Um so, next we have administration um Williams uniform complaints for third quarter ending 33126. Staff will present to the board the quarterly report on Williams uniform complaints for the quarter ending 331-26 per education code section 35186. Thank you President Murray. I just wanted to report to the board that for the third quarter January 1st through January 1st 2026 through March 31st we had one complaint regarding facilities that was filed and it has also been resolved. That concludes my report.

1:54:27 – 1:54:540

Thanks. I thought I was gonna get to see uh Ryan Severs. Oh, Trusty M. Trustee um Richardson had a question. Yes, Trusty Richardson. Did we get a copy of that? Uh yes, that's in the agenda. If you uh page 190 I forgot my seven and 198.

1:54:51 – 1:55:280

Okay, I'll be sure to check but I'll just forgot my thick piece anyway. Okay. Next administration 1A resolution number 26-47 AsianAmerican Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander AHPI month May. Staff recommends the adoption of resolution 26-47 honoring Asian-American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Month. Um, do I have a motion? So move. Second.

1:55:26 – 1:57:230

Okay. So, we have a motion by Trustee Lamb, a second by Trustee Richardson, and Trustee Lamb will read this for us. Okay. Resolution number 26-47, Asian-American and Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Heritage Month, May 1 to 31, sorry, sorry, May 1st to 31st, 2026. Whereas the month of May was designated as AsianPacific American Heritage Month by the United States Congress in 1990 and was officially designated as Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in 1992. And whereas the South San Francisco Unified School District recognizes the importance of inclusive terminology and uses Asian-American and Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander or AANHPI to reflect the diversity of the communities represented. And whereas this year's theme as designated by the Federal AsianPacific American Council is power and unity, strengthening communities together, highlighting the importance of collective strength, bridge building, and storytelling to foster resilience and connection within AsianAmerican and Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander communities. And whereas May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese immigrants to the United States on May 7th, 1843 and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10th, 1869, for which the majority of workers who laid the tracks were as Chinese immigrants. And whereas A&HPI communities have overcome many challenges and have for generations made significant significant contributions to all aspects of American society. And whereas AA and HPI communities represent a rich cultural diversity and include leaders in

1:57:22 – 1:58:240

education, government, science, and the arts. And whereas according to the 2020 census, the A& HPI population represents approximately 21 million US residents and 6.5 million California residents and locally accounts for approximately 45% of the South San Francisco population and 37% of the district's students. And whereas California Education Code section 51204.5 calls for instruction in the social sciences to include the study of the role and contributions of Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders with a particular emphasis on portraying these groups in contemporary society. Now, therefore, be it resolved that the South San Francisco Unified School District Board of Trustees hereby recognizes and honors Asian-American and Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander communities during A&HPI Heritage Month, May, 2026. Regularly passed and adopted this 23rd day of April, 2026.

1:58:22 – 1:58:360

Okay. Roll call. Trusty Lamb? Yes. Trusty Richardson? Yes. Trustee Anthony? Yes. Vice President Sheay. Yes. President Murray.

1:58:33 – 2:00:240

Yes. Motion carried. Okay. So, next, approval of board of trustees compensation. The board will discuss a possible 2026 27 compensation increase and the contribution of a monthly mileage stipen. Did you want to introduce me? So, pursuant to section 35120 of the California Education Code and Board by 9250, members of the board of trustees and districts with an average daily attendance between 1,000 and 10,000 students based on the average daily attendance for the prior school year in the jurisdiction of the governing board are eligible to receive monthly compensation. The board has approved annual increases to their compensation in recent years. Based on the adjustment approved at the June 12th, 2025 regular board meeting, the current monthly trustee compensation is $487.84, which reflects a 4.5% increase from the prior compensation level. The total monthly compensation, including the $100 mileage stipend, is $587.84 based on the new ED code. um and our ADA for the prior school year in for the board. You may receive up to 1,200 per month provided trustees have to attend all meetings held during the month. The current compensation level is outlined in your board packet. And at this time, we've also listed different um percent increases for the board to consider. and um we'll turn it over and allow the board to discuss and give direction on and take action on where you would like where and if you would like to give the board an increase in your monthly compensation. So, I'll turn it back over to you, President Murray.

2:00:200

Thank you. So, Trustee Richardson, did you want to

2:00:26 – 2:02:010

start? I'm happy to start. If you don't want to start, you start. Um, I this is probably my least favorite thing that we talk about every year because I feel deeply uncomfortable about voting for a raise for myself um or any of us. Uh what I I really feel strongly that we should not go up to the maximum and I think that we should continue to proceed with standard raises that are in line with what we um approve for our certificated and classified staff. Um and I say this because every dollar that we give ourselves which our work is work too. We are also here doing work um is also not money that is going to students. So you know I did you know back of the envelope math. If we increased our our board compensation up to 1,200 a month, that would be nearly a it would be almost a $700 a month increase times 5 is $3,500 a month times 12 is uh $35,000 plus what another something. I just should have done that math anyway. Like $43,000 a year. 43,000 is a paraprofessional almost. Maybe not the whole thing, right? But like that's that's that's position and I I just don't feel comfortable going doing that. So, um I'm going to propose the the 3% um or or no increase at all. But I do know that things are expensive. So 3% is fine for me.

2:01:580

Okay. Trusty Richardson, you're ready or did you want to

2:02:03 – 2:04:020

Okay, Trusty Lamb. Um, yeah, I don't have like a set position yet, but I did want to just share some just some thoughts. Um, not not um a particular position. Um, yeah, I do definitely uh feel weird about talking about giving myself a raise. I I even voted no last year because I was not sure that the percentage we voted for was the right thing at that time. But um that said um I just want to just for argument sake to point out in terms of like the AB the intent of AB1390 I think was to just uh raise uh stipens you know AC give people the option to raise the stipens across the board uh because uh the I mean in in some way like from the outside the stipens may actually be very low like it's sort of like been kind of lingering at this lower level for a long long time. Um I think for comparison the city council in South City gets they currently give themselves $1,200 not per month not to say that you know we have to match that but uh ju just sort of gives an idea of like if we want to be comparable um that would be something to consider. Um I yeah I guess I kind of want to hear what folks how folks are feeling. Um, I um I guess I I sort of was crunching I I didn't do all the the back of the envelope math, but you know, I mean, if we wanted to consider just raising the the the floor uh just to uh take uh just because we do have the option of this AB390 uh to to make a change. I mean, we could go like half halfway and do like 600 a month. Um, or even higher, but uh

2:04:00 – 2:04:300

there's Yeah. So, that's kind of just some thoughts on that. I uh so I would like to share my thoughts. I agree with uh Amanda uh the the the increase I really truly believe we should be the same as our staff and teachers. Um so that's it. That's my position. Thank you. Richardson,

2:04:34 – 2:06:320

sorry, I'm looking at the future and when I hear people in the community, we have three seats coming up and we need to attract people. when they see what we offer as a stipend, that's not going to attract people and they're going to ignore us. And for me, I would go for the maximum. Why? Because it would be incentive for people to come in and serve. It's not even 1,200 is nothing. It's basically 10 10,000 12,000 10 12,000 a year, you know. Uh it doesn't spend like that. It's $400 that we get and $100 for gas at $9 some places. Inflation is taken up and I'm just looking at of the attracting people. If we have a larger amount, everyone in the district is giving themselves a raise and 4% at our rate is 4% of 400 a month. Really? Are you kidding me right now? So, I'd like to propose that we take the maximum to to um offer the public uh an incentive that we get people to come in and serve. Uh there's a lot of hours that we put in if we want to do a good job. We got to go to promotions and school visits and read the agendas and oversee things. Um, it's not a it's one of those

2:06:28 – 2:08:230

jobs that you have to be alert and you should be looking out. An extra pair of eyes always helps. Um, I know I'm always looking at things. I can't see everything, but I respond to the community and I hear receive complaints after hours and I try my best to serve in the capacity um and I would like to attract that kind of person who's willing to put in the hours and the effort and the um service because this is more of a service. How many people, you know, get paid 1,200 a month for anything? And yes, we do two meetings a month and then some. And the hours that we put in for other aspects, it this is not a two um meeting uh commitment and we want to attract people to come in and serve. That's my position. Okay. Um my feeling is that this is really a volunteer position. It's not a it's not a job. And um and so when we get our our little raises um whenever we get them um we match them up to what our staff is getting. And that's what leadership is. we take the same as what our staff what we offer our staff. And so um for that reason I am also in favor of of just giving the the same as we've given our staff. So do I have a motion?

2:08:23 – 2:09:010

So, I'll I'll move that uh our that we retain the $100 a month uh travel stipend or gas stipen, whatever mileage, and uh give a 3% increase for the base pay. Second. Okay. All in favor? I I opposed. Okay. So, we have a motion. I'll vote I. Sorry. Huh? I I'll vote I.

2:08:56 – 2:09:550

Okay. Um I'm sorry. Um so, we have a motion by Trustee Anthony. We have a second by Dr. Sheay for a $100 um $100 for a travel stipen and 3% raise. And we have one opposed. Motion carried. Okay. So, next, um, approval of the district's updated board bylaw 9250, remuneration, reimbursement, and other benefits. Staff recommends approval of the revised board bylaw 9250 as reviewed by the board policies and bylaws committee and to incorporate the board determined monthly compensation amount established with a wave of the second reading. Um do I have a motion?

2:09:55 – 2:10:180

We'll we'll discuss it after if we get a motion in a second. So move. Okay. Okay. So a motion by Dr. SH is second by Trustee Anthony. I do move that we pull this till after the May 2nd meeting

2:10:12 – 2:10:530

um with the state to um uh inform the public of all the provisions in this by bylaw which I believe the board needs some enlightenment and uh they have ne they haven't had it and I the the state representative will be there and they will um explain all the items and the nuances for the bylaw that the this board has failed to grasp.

2:10:51 – 2:11:170

So at this point we have a motion and we have a second. Um all in favor? I'm I'm curious what you think that is not in line with state law in this bylaw. Well, that's good. In this umicular item, could you

2:11:12 – 2:12:270

in this particular item? Yes. You have um the travel stipen or benefit. I believe this is the one that says that um if you show the receipts and it's uh educational based training, you should be able to collect whatever it is that you choose to because basically we have since this board was this was approved in the past there's been equity and the way it is written. It is um it avoids or ignores equity and inclusion and it leaves certain board members out. And uh this past fiasco of the um professional development should be cleared up with a person from the state. I understand it has nothing to do with a state law.

2:12:250

Yes, it does. Okay.

2:12:31 – 2:14:160

Okay. I mean essentially from what I understand from the bylaw that as the the new version of it I mean we've we're raising uh our you know our individual allowances for these you know professional learnings that uh we're we're free to attend you know each school year um you know and you know we have to I think as a board we're trying to also model um you know staying within our budget staying uh within our means and it's and I think 2500 I mean you know obviously it's not going to be able to do like every maybe every single thing that's out there but we we and I believe we can set priorities in terms of what we each of us want to pursue each year and it is separate from like the things like the CSBA annual conference which all of us uh attend um but yeah there's you know I I think it's it's great to have you know some increase because costs you go up a little bit. But um I think we all have opportunities that we would like to pursue that maybe outside of the CSBA conference. Um but you know we do have to make priorities and I think we still have the option to support each other with uh donating you know if from each other's you know individual accounts if we wish but um you know we just you know had that whole discussion on you know our compensation and you know wanting to I mean I think this is also a way to kind of give us that flexibility to pursue what we want but also set some reasonable limit to what we collectively will spend. So that's just my feeling of this.

2:14:12 – 2:16:110

Well, that's nice. But you know, we're called upon by the parent organization and this will we couldn't discuss at length when you have the person from the state stating that it's they want you to go to that meeting or all board members have that flexibility and that courtesy as electeds and this is what people should understand. I will not pay to go to a professional development. We have people on staff that can afford to pay their professional development that we will not be expecting them to pay because that's part of uh an agreement. Why do we have to shortch change the staff are some of us want to go? Okay, that's just what it comes down to. and nobody and you could take a take a polling or a survey of neighboring issues and ask them do you are you allowed to go to your professional but you have to pay for it. That's ridiculous. It's it actually um what it it isn't even um it isn't even fair and we pay way more with some of the people that some of the staff that can afford it. So we're we're we're the ones that set that. We we provided that. We said we want professional development. That's an investment on each other. And this is why you should look into it. That's how I look at it. If I have somebody and I said, "Okay, I think that would be a good thing. Why if we pay the staff way more?" I've seen it. I've seen

2:16:08 – 2:17:540

You've seen it. We've approved way over $5,000 and I just said if you want to put a cap I mean I was just I just want to talk about that with the state because you need perspective. I think that's what's missing in this discussion. Um, I've spoken in in my um my job as director for CSBA and when the the coast to coast thing came up, I spoke to a lot of different districts. Any the districts that came, some people only send one trustee a year, some it was like a one-off. Um, a lot of districts don't do that. Most of the people that I talk to, they have to get it approved through their board. It's not something that they just automatically go to. Um we are what they're doing in this policy, I believe, is is they're giving us an amount and they're saying, you know, whatever you want to do if it's good for the the district and you feel like it's professional development, you can do as long as you stay within the the parameters. In addition to that, in addition to that, every year we go to um we go to a conference where there are many many classes open to us and um and it's over three days and we all attend that for the most part. Um so I I I think 2500 is is generous and I think that um I think that it's a good policy. So, let me ask you, Pat, did you fund any of your uh coast to coast trip?

2:17:52 – 2:18:360

I did. I went to the So, you don't mind paying out of pocket? I don't. Should we ask the superintendent to pay for her? I that that's not the question at hand right now because right now we're talking about a board policy. You have a motion on the floor. This is why you should discuss it with the people from the state. Okay. We we have a dis we've had our discussion. We have a motion by Trusty Anthony. We have a second by Dr. Sheay. All in favor? I I I opposed. Oppose. Okay. So, we have um we have a um who made the motion? You or Amanda?

2:18:35 – 2:19:080

Amanda. Okay. We have a motion by Trusty Anthony, a second by Dr. Shay, four um four eyes and one nay. Motion carried. Okay. So, next, approval of district's new and updated board bylaws and policies. Staff recommends the approval of the following updated new district's board bylaw and policies and wave a second reading. Do I have a motion? So, move with waving of the Yes, waving the second read.

2:19:06 – 2:19:510

Waving the second reading. Do I have a second? Um I think we did want to make one small correction in um the student board member policy. I think currently it says that the if we have students from different um high schools or multiple high schools in the district that they should rotate every other year and we should say every other semester. So they're both trustees but they they rotate every other semester, right? Yeah. I was I I did wonder about that too. I mean, it does say in the bylaw that we do have two student board member positions, but yeah, our custom is sort of yet to rotate by semester. So, if we want to reflect that a little bit more closely in the bylaw, then I mean,

2:19:50 – 2:20:230

do you want to pull it and bring it back or uh I don't think we need to pull it. I think it's just changing it, but we do need to amend the motion to amend the amend the motion with the new revision. Okay. Okay. I'll second that. So, I have a motion by Dr. Shay with the revision and the waving of the second reading. I have a second by Trustee Anthony. All in favor? I I oppose. No.

2:20:19 – 2:20:580

Okay. So, we have a motion by Dr. Shay, a second by Trustee Anthony. Um, we have four eyes and one nay, one opposed. Motion carried. Okay. Approval of CTE courses. Staff recommends the approval of the new CTE courses. Entrepreneurship 1, entrepreneurship 2, and emergency response 2 for implementation beginning the 202627 school year. Do we have a motion? So move. Second. Second.

2:20:56 – 2:21:440

I just want to say I'm ridiculously excited about the entrepreneurship courses that we're adding. This is great. Um, yay. They're very in-depth. Say I finally write it last night. Actually, I had a question about that too in terms of like it seems like the core of those entrepreneurship program. I mean, there's a lot of projects involved, but then there's sort of this throughine of yearbook. So, is this in a way like professionalizing the yearbook development or um I don't know if Dr. Campbell or Dr. Moore if you have any insights on that. No. Okay. It's fine. it. There was a lot in there about your book, which is actually kind of cool. But um Okay. So, I have a motion by Dr. Sheay, a second by Trustee Anthony. All in favor?

2:21:43 – 2:22:250

I I um No opposed. Motion carried. Um approval of special education courses. Staff recommends approval of special education c courses, college and career exploration and preparation and foundations of health to assure to ensure alignment with AB 181. Um, do I have a motion? So moved. Second. So I have a motion by trusty Lamb, a second by Dr. Sheay. Any discussion? Notably, I'm also excited about these courses. Foundations of Health is a good one. So, thanks that we're adding this. Yes. Yes. Agreed. Okay. All in favor?

2:22:25 – 2:23:000

I I I motion carried. Approval of one-year agreement with enenuity. Egenuity. Um staff recommends approval of a one-year extension agreement with Egeneuity Egeneuity for the 2627 school year in the amount of $86,000. Do I have a motion? I'll make a motion. Second. Second. Any discussion? So, I have a motion by Trusty Lamb, a second by Dr. Sheay. All in favor?

2:22:57 – 2:23:300

I. Motion carried. Uh, approval of the revised 2026 27 instructional calendar. Staff recommends adoption of the revised SSFUSD instructional calendar for 2627 school year. Um, do I have a motion? So, move. Second. Second. Any conver any discussion? So we have a motion by Dr. Sheay, a second by Trustee Anthony. All in favor?

2:23:26 – 2:24:040

I. Motion carried. Um, student and family services. Approval of the contract with Youth Services Bureau, YSB, of the YMCA. Staff recommends approval of the contract with YSB of the YMCA to continue providing additional counseling support for the 2026 27 school year in the amount of $488,37349. Do I have a motion? Second. Okay. So, I have a motion by trustee Richardson, a second by Dr. Shay.

2:24:02 – 2:25:170

Any discussion? Well, I yeah, I had raised a question, but just for the record in terms of um like we had talked about in like the strategic um action plan presentation previously about um gradually phasing down um our contracts with youth services bureau, but it sounds like we're not quite there yet. Um and um what's I guess what's the plan in terms of like what will happen between now and and the future? Commissioner Lamb, I'll speak uh briefly on behalf of Dr. Garcia who couldn't be here today. So, your question was in regards to the continuation of YSB for one additional year. Uh you may have also seen that we uh the board approved tonight the new job descriptions for our clinicians aka our school social worker, our school social worker on special assignment. Uh so this is part of a shift in a transition for us to build the capacity to hire and staff for these needs which we anticipate will likely take one more school year.

2:25:15 – 2:25:430

Yeah, thank you for the clarity. Yeah, thank you. Um, all in favor? I I I. Motion carried. Okay. Change order in the agreement with DDAP. Staff recommends approval of the change order to the the agreement with DDAP for the 202526 school year in the amount of $38,485. Um, do I have a motion? So moved. Second.

2:25:41 – 2:26:250

So we have a motion by Trusty an Anthony, a second by Dr. Sheay. Um, any discussion? Um, I'm sort of perplexed as to how it's only catching up to us now. We added the ex additional classroom in like September, but only now are we doing this? Is that have we been using reserves or was it just not filled or I'm sorry I don't didn't ask this question earlier, but I was curious about it. So, to my knowledge and I can certainly go back and check that the it just wasn't be being filled. Okay. And so, we got additional applicants of kiddos who wanted to come in and so now we are coming back because for the difference.

2:26:24 – 2:27:090

Yeah, that's great. I mean, I'm glad to see that we have additional takeup. Um I I hope that we fill the classrooms from day one next year and I will make sure that I double check that too as well with my my team. So all in favor? I I I motion carried. Okay. The approval ofou with fresh lifelines for youth fly incorporated. Uh staff recommends approval of theou with fly to provide additional tier 1 to tier three supports for the remainder of the 2526 school year and continuing through the 26 to 27 school year. Um do I have a motion? So move second.

2:27:08 – 2:27:270

Second. So I have a motion by Dr. Shay, a second by trustee Anthony. Um any discussion? Um I I just this is a new um program for Fly I think. Is that right? Can you talk a little bit more about how this differs from past?

2:27:24 – 2:28:420

I certainly can. So, in the past, Fly um partnered with both El Camino High School and South City, and that was prior to COVID. And um at that time, Fly primarily served just a smaller group of students that were focusing on a diversion from the juvenile justice system. And um that was several years ago. And so, we reconnected with Fly in coordination with the PD department to explore more integrated partnership that included diversion, alternatives to suspension, and alternative to expulsion. And at the same time um SSFPD did not move forward with theou so they paused and so that was around some of the challenging times within our community. That's why there was a pause to that. Since then fly has evolved its services. So the organization now supports students through ATS programming alternative to suspension programming as well as those who may be at risk of future contact with the legal system not just those who've previously had contact. And so um there's a this new program is the peer point program that's outlined in theou and it is a structured approach to as an alternative to suspension for students with higher levels of need and so it's multiple months of weekly engagement consistent support and accountability and just really an alternative to expos expulsion which is different from how we have leveraged partnership in the past.

2:28:40 – 2:29:080

Yeah that's great to see. Um, I know that we heard last year from some of our school um, officers, not school safety safety officers, um, who were feeling concerned that our ATS program wasn't wasn't cut in the mustard. And it sounds like this might be a little bit better for supporting students. Okay, any other questions? All in favor?

2:29:04 – 2:29:490

I I motion carried. Okay. Business services approval of the agreement with NGO incorporated for the Spruce Elementary modernization project. Staff recommends approval of the agreement with NGO Incorporated for geotechnical engineering services and geologic hazard review in the amount of $67,150. Do I have a motion? So move. Who was the second? Okay. So I have I have a motion by Dr. Sheay, a second by Trustee Richardson. Um any discussion? All in favor? I. Motion carried.

2:29:46 – 2:30:240

Um approval of agreement with Mer Green Environmental Company for the El Camino High School modernization project. Staff recommends approval of the agreement with Mer Green Environmental Company for CCTV pipeline inspection survey and hydro survey and hydro flushing services in the amount of $44,000. Do I have a motion? Second. So I have a motion by Trusty Richardson, a second by Dr. Sheay. Um any discussion? All in favor?

2:30:20 – 2:30:580

I motion carried. Approval of agreement with Leland Sailor and Associates Incorporated for the El Camino High School modernization project. Staff recommends approval of the agreement with Leland Sailor and Associates Incorporated for cost estimating services in the amount of $35,000. Motion second. Second. So I have a mo motion by trustee Richardson, a second by Dr. Sheay. Any discussion? All in favor? I I motion carried.

2:30:55 – 2:31:300

Okay. Approval of agreement with HL Construction Management Incorporated for the Montyver modernization project. Staff recommends approval of the agreement with HL Construction Management Incorporated for the schematic design cost estimating services in the amount of $28,700. Um, do I have a motion? So moved. Oh, second. Okay. So, I have a a motion by Trustee Richardson, a second by Trustee Lamb. Any discussion? All in favor?

2:31:28 – 2:32:120

I uh Trusty Anthony. Oh, motion carried. Okay. Approval of agreement with Bardos Architecture. Staff recommends approval of the agreement with Bardau's architecture for DSA legacy project closeout and certification services at Montverie Elementary School, South San Francisco High School, Ben Continuation and Ponderosa Elementary School in the amount of $92,000. Do I have a motion? Second. Second. So I have a motion by Trustee Richardson, a second by uh Dr. Shay. Any discussion? All in favor?

2:32:11 – 2:32:490

I I. Motion carried. Approval of award of contract SF roofing services for Parkway Heights Middle School. Staff recommends awarding a contract for roof replacements to the lowest responsible responsive responsible bidder SF roof SF roofing services in the amount of $2,757,000. Um, do I have a motion? Second. Second. Okay. So, I have a motion by trustee Richardson, a second by trustee Anthony. Can I

2:32:46 – 2:33:270

Yeah. Oh, sorry. Question. Go ahead. I mean, I um I was I think I was just having sticker shock because the roof um being, you know, 27 million, but um I understand Parkway Heights is a, you know, big campus. Um I I presume this has been kind of an issue for you know just deferred maintenance or or whatnot but um if if anyone has insights on just how how it came to be um just is that possible is anyone from facilities able to speak to the the roofing issues?

2:33:29 – 2:33:400

I believe Mr. kitchens may be available. If you are there, could you please speak to this item? If not, Trusty Lamb, we will have to get back to you.

2:33:45 – 2:34:300

I guess not. So, can I just clarify your question is how did it come to be that we have damages to the interior part of the building? Is that um I mean, it sounds like we're replacing the roof, right? or roof roofs of uh at Parkway Heights Middle School. Um it's showing severe deterioration water intrusion and in dire need of replacement. So your question is why? How did it come? Yeah. Yeah. It just if it's like If if not it's, you know, we can and Dr. get back to you.

2:34:28 – 2:34:530

Yeah, that's regardless it has to be done, right? Yeah. Yeah. It's so um so I feel badly. Dr. Moore will get back to you. And does anybody else have any questions? Okay. So, we have a motion by I believe Trusty Richardson, a second by Trustee Anthony. All in favor? I I

2:34:49 – 2:35:290

Motion carried. Okay. Um, approval of agreement with Gelfind Partners for Ponderosa Elementary School. Staff recommends approval of the agreement with Gelfin Partners Architects for design and construction observation services for the TK classroom renovation project in the amount of $148,195. Do I have a motion? So move. Second. Okay. So I have a motion by Dr. Sheay, a second by Trustee Richardson. Um any discussion? All in favor? I I I.

2:35:26 – 2:36:010

Motion carried. Approval of proposal with Signal Solutions Corporation for Ponderosa Elementary School. Uh staff recommends approval of the proposal with Signal Solutions Corporation for audio video system upgrades in the amount of $99,243.32. Um do I have a motion? Second. Okay. So, Trusty Lamb was Trusty Richardson was the motion. I'm the second

2:35:58 – 2:36:570

and then Trusty Anthony. Okay. So, Trusty Richardson was the motion. Trusty Anony's the second. Um any discussion? Um I mean I'll just pose the question I asked earlier in terms of um whether there's any electrical upgrades that need to be made for um this for these AV upgrades um both for this item for Ponderosa and the next item Parkway. But um just there's no major electrical that has to happen um for the two schools. I can't of course I can't find it in my notes. Give me one second. But um that's the long and short answer to that question. Okay. Let's see. Okay. Yeah. Thanks.

2:36:55 – 2:37:340

But you never know once you get in. Oh, come on. Don't say that. Don't jinx it. Okay. Okay. So, and can I just just to respond to the previous question that came up so that I don't have to circle back later. The roofs are old. Um the the MUR roof is past its life and the old building roofs are 25 to 26 years old. That's how it came to be. Past due. Okay. Thank you. Thank you. Roofs are expensive. Okay. So, we have a trust. We have a motion and a second. Um, all in favor?

2:37:30 – 2:38:040

I. Motion carries. Approval of proposal with PCD Incorporated for Parkway Heights Middle School. Staff recommends approval of the proposal with PCD Incorporated for audio audio video system upgrades in the amount of $83,888.39. Do I have a motion? So, move. Okay. So, I have a motion by Dr. Shay, a second by Trustee Richardson. Um, any discussion? All in favor? I. Motion carried.

2:38:02 – 2:38:430

Okay. So, review of future agenda items and meetings. If I may, I'd like a an update on the electric vehicle stations that we have. Um, I've noticed that they have a yellow ribbon across it and what's going on with them. I know that a few years ago we got a grant and uh we built them, but they've been sort of idle and I'd like an update on that.

2:38:39 – 2:39:220

Can Can Dr. Moore give you an update um on the weekly update? Okay, sure. I'll work with Mr. O. Thank you. No, I don't have an update right now. Um, so Joanna, any uh there are no board of directors. Thank you. Okay, so um good and welfare comments from the board members and superintendent sometimes. Um Trusty Richardson. Thank you.

2:39:220

Oh, sorry.

2:39:25 – 2:41:220

I did go to the um what was that one at El Camino? The the passion project. Fashion project. Yes. And that was in the rain. That was really great. The students brought so many visuals. It was really cute. Um, one student brought a little cat that was uh a stray and she was advocating for everybody should try and adopt a feral kitten. That was cute. And we had a bodybuilder student and he was so excited about his pro his passion which is body um weightlifting. And then yesterday I went to a presentation at the Samuel County um education and uh there was a presentation by Julie Hillborn, director environmental literacy and sustainability at at the county on the seeds to solutions curriculum which is available for free use by any district developed by the Sonteo County Office of Education and Environmental Literacy. project 10 strands seeds to solutions transforms classroom learning into discussions and go beyond school. The lessons are designed to inspire students to become environmental solution seekers and empower them to explore those solutions with confidence in coordination with the California Department of Education. Each unit was designed to align with state standards and environmental principles concepts to explore California specific environmental challenges and solutions. And today I had a the pleasure of

2:41:18 – 2:42:130

visiting Mr. Al Lima's bioscience. uh his freshman class presented a cancer poster presentation um the cancer phenomenon project including how different cancers types develop, spread are prevented and potential treatments. 34 students presented their projects and I was just delighted to see the depth and the understanding and the knowledge and the passion that these students showed at their projects and um you know there are they were only freshman but they were very much engaged and all in fitting with our portrait of the graduate. I was very impressed. And that concludes my report. Thank

2:42:110

you, Trusty Anthony.

2:42:13 – 2:44:100

Uh, yeah, it has been a busy few weeks. Um, I also went to the passion projects and got to see Izzy's, um, passion project on creating caring connections. Um, I want to give a shout out to one student who I didn't talk to, um, who was playing Weezer's Undone, the sweater song. That was fantastic. uh they like were in a band in the room and playing the song. Um lot of really great conversations. I I talked with Ree uh about basketball and I talked to another student about mental health classes. Um had a lot of conversations. Oh, and there was a great conversation with one student who was like trying to get his colleagues into the trades and I told him all about the trades introduction program. So if you don't know about the trades introduction program, um you should all check it out. Um, if you are interested in CTE, uh, we did get a flyer that the, uh, quarterly CTE meeting is next week at SMCE. So, if you have contacts to people who are, um, trying to build out CTE pathways, I encourage them to go that. I attended the community learning exchange at the very end um, and had a really great conversation with with one of our retired community liaison, uh, Maria Barcelon. Currently, she's teaching a number of classes at the community learning center, including one that was about um navigating South San Francisco Unified School District. So, that's in the current process right now. It started in April and it was really about how to enroll in preschool and TK, how to fill out applications. And so, I just really appreciate that she's doing that in um English and Spanish for our community. Uh she's also doing um certifications for certification classes for food handlers card citizenship digital literacy. She's like crushing it in the community. So really um the next spring workshops at CLC start May 6th. So pass it on to your parents, uh your families, your friends, your community members. Uh I really wanted to pass that

2:44:08 – 2:44:310

on and say thank you to Maria for all that she does after after retiring. Same also to Rosie and somebody else. Teresa, yeah, got retired and still come back and help. So, um, thank you. Thank you for doing that. Thank you. Do I see them?

2:44:29 – 2:45:520

Hello. Yes. Uh in addition to the progress seminar that happened this weekend before that um there was the April 10th uh uh deliberations I guess at Huniperosa Elementary School. Um you know President Murray and I were there. Um I I just want to thank Principal Sayenne and Miss Juan for inviting me to you know come and observe kind of what happens. Um they collaborate with the Stanford uh Deliberative Democracy Lab. Um there the Stanford students actually moderated discussions with the the third um actually with the third graders. Uh they're talking about whether or not to have free dress days um at their school. It's a JS is a uniform school. So this would be kind of an interesting change for them. Um and I also intended the community learning exchange on uh April 15th um with trustee Anthony. Um appreciate seeing Dr. Moore, Dr. Garcia there. um and of of course our students, uh parents, educators, uh community partners, um all just having discussions together about how we can increase our sense of belonging at our schools. So appreciate that our district does that. So thank you. And also, um you know, we have our board workshop right coming up. Uh graduation season's around the corner. So, uh good luck to everybody as we get to the end of the year.

2:45:47 – 2:47:460

Thank you, Dr. Shay. Okay. Um yeah, I I just want to talk about deliberations. It was an amazing experience that they're starting these little kids. Um, I think we were with the fourth graders, but they're starting these fourth graders talking about about topics that they don't necessarily agree on and teaching them how to work together and to accept if if one person doesn't agree with another person and and the the body, the student body goes with the one person. They're teaching them to accept accept it and move on and and still agree on the things that you can agree. It's I think it's an amazing an amazing uh program and uh I think that every school should have one and every adult should should go into a program like that and we should all get along. Anyway, um Dr. Moore does have an answer. Oh. Also, I just remembered there was a um there was a bench at Skyline Elementary School. They um they actually raised money to um to get a bench and to um to have this bench dedicated to Miss Christopherson, um one of the elementary teachers that died recently. Her family was there and um they were very touched and they they couldn't believe how many people were there. um they've decided to put the bench in their garden so that she could see the the so that anybody sitting there could see the view and um and their beautiful garden and to think about Miss Christopherson. So it was it was a very

2:47:440

nice experience and I'm glad I was there. Okay, so with that Dr. Moore has an answer for us.

2:47:51 – 2:48:420

Thank you very much. I have a I have a couple. Thank you Wazi. You are amazing. We are going to miss you. Um so for the Parkway Heights item, the awarding of that contract, um that will have it rigid insulation that's going to be added for higher thermal pro performance and it'll be more energy efficient. So I wanted to share that with the board. And um the audio systems, they don't have a large power demand and that's why we can use our available outlets. So we won't need to have any greater need for large electrical outlets. And I believe that responds to all of the questions with with the exception of one and that one I will be getting back to. We do have a new uh vendor that has reached out to us about the EV charging station. So I will be getting back to you on that. But that is where that sits right now. A new proposal for that. Thank you.

2:48:380

And that's why we love you. Okay.
