City Council - Regular Meeting

Good evening, City of Shawnee. I'm Doug Donahue, Communications Director for the City, bringing you the wrap-up of the City Council meeting for this Monday, September 14, 2026. Councilmember Kurt Knappen was absent this evening, and Councilmember Laurel Birchfield participated remotely, so votes will be based on the seven Councilmembers who participated in tonight's meeting. Mayor Sandefur declared the week of September 13th to 19th as National Corresponder and Crisis Responder Week in the City of Shawnee. The council approved the rezoning of 17 acres bordered by Shawnee Mission Parkway to the north and Midland Drive to the south from Commercial Highway to planned unit development mixed residential for the proposed new overlook at Midland Apartment Complex on a 7-0 vote. The Council also approved construction service contracts for three upcoming stormwater projects. The first combining work at 7410 Schweitzer and Larson between 65th and 67th Streets with McEnany. The second, Blackfish Parkway between Lachman and Flum with Amino Brothers Company. And the third project, 70th Street and Oakview with VF Anderson. All three projects will receive matching funds through the County Stormwater Management Program and the Council awarded all contracts on 7-0 votes. Public Works Director Kevin Manning also provided a brief update on the Midland renovation project. Right now, the City is hoping to finish the project by mid-December of this year. The Shawnee City Council will be back in session on Monday, September 28th, 2026, starting at 6 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall.
