Good evening, city of Shaunie. My name is Doug Dondu. I'm communications director for the city, bringing you the wrap-up of the city council meeting from this Monday, April 27th, 2026. Council member Laurel Birfield was out this evening, so votes will be based on the seven council members who were in attendance. The council approved three separate public works projects this evening. a final payment for the Johnson Drive streetscape, a contract for the construction of the Monaceel and Johnson Drive stormwater project, and accepting funding from Johnson County for the city's 2027 storm water pipe renewal projects. All three votes passed 7 to zero. During council committee, council member Kurt Nappen filled in for Council Member Birfield. The annual budget process got underway. First, finance director Shawn Roco provided an overview of the 2025 budget. As the council begins the 2027 budget process, here are some dates to keep in mind. On May 11th, the council will hear from outside groups who receive funding from the city. Departments from the city will present individual budgets to the council committee meetings on May 26th, June 8th, and 22nd. And on Monday, August 24th, during the regular city council meeting, the city will hold public hearings for the revenue neutral rate and the budget before potentially adopting the city's 2027 budget.
