I have some notes that we got from our surveys from when we send out a home-delivered meal or when we do our contribution letters. There's an optional survey at the bottom.

So then, for communications, after, when I send out the contribution letters to our home-delivered meal participants. There's an optional survey on the back. There's some questions about whether or not they need additional services, but then there's a portion where they can leave comments. So I have quite a few comments that I've stacked up over the past couple months, so I'll read those.

Oh, well, wonderful.

Okay, so the first one is, sorry this is late. My checks, bills, papers, et cetera were stolen and I'm just getting to catch up. The food isn't still great, but I'm happy to get it. All of the delivery people are saints, thank you. The next one says, every meal should provide a role, particularly the meals that advertise one. As usual, kudos to Jill and all the delivery saints. The meals are great. The volunteers who deliver the meals are wonderful. The food and delivery people, great as always. Thank you for doing such a great job. The delivery is great and the food is great, very good. Rick has a wonderful personality and Katie, I'm with my mom right now until I can get her moved. This is why we stopped taking the meals from someone. And then finally, Quinn can attest to a little bit more about this, but one of our social workers did such a fabulous job. She left a note. It says, thanks again for working with my aunt from Scott, and he donated $1,000 to our Meals on Wheels program. Oh, wow. Sweet. Nice. It's really exciting to get. Wonderful.

We're set to go. We're just getting logistics on the tent and table and that kind of stuff. I'll be sitting there in the morning. Alma, do you know if you're going to be there? Okay. I haven't decided what time yet.

So just for clarification, so on Friday we can't set up until 4? Is that what the plan was, 4 to 9? No.

You can set up before 4, but technically it's not open for business until 4. So it's from 4 to 9 on Friday night.

And so because it's Labor Day weekend, I'm not going to have any of my staff attend in the evening. That's just not appropriate. So I will go. And I'll set up and I'll sit there. I'm not staying until 9. It's past my bedtime. But it is. But I will stay for probably until I would say 7 or so. So I'll probably be there from like 4 to 7. And then I'll put all the brochures and stuff in the box. And then I'll just probably put the box just right underneath the table. And then... then I'm assuming on Saturday it's earlier? Or you can be there earlier?

You can be there earlier. I don't know what time the vendor show starts. That's usually in the morning. I wasn't planning on being there until like 8 o'clock on Saturday morning.

But I'll just leave the box with the brochures right there so you can just pull them out. And I'm going to have brochures from all of the programs that we do. And obviously I don't expect anyone to be an expert on all of the things, but there will be some general business cards available. And that way you can just say, you know, please call the ADRC, you know, and talk to them about this. But there's going to be, you know, obviously things from the nutrition program, which, you know, you guys are familiar with. But then there will be just our typical, like, you know, volunteering and, you know, some of the volunteer and the friendly visitor program that Carrie Luther, our volunteer coordinator, is involved with. The disability benefit specialist has, you know, just a brochure. The elder benefit specialist. So, again, if anyone is like, Oh, you know, do you know if they help with disability? You can give them, you know, a brochure and a general business card and they can call. So again, just going to leave some of that, you know, some of our brochures. But like I said, I will go on Friday and I can set up and put the canopy up and the table and we have a tablecloth. I'll probably fold the tablecloth and put it in the bag or in the box and just leave the box there with the brochures and the tablecloth.

I'll go on Wednesday and find out where they're going to put us.

Yeah, because I'm not very familiar with the park. Yeah, I'm not.

So are you guys in a building or are you outside?

We'll be outside. So it's a rain or shine event.

Next, it's not this weekend, it's next weekend, right? Correct. Yeah, it's Labor Day weekend.

So for that, we're gonna do what we did in the past, which is the postcards. I have a stack for everyone if they would like to take a stack. They're a little bit different. This year we helped put together new ones. We were just thinking like grocery stores or, Chris, I know the food pantry, if you wanna give them out to your participants, that would be great.

Can I make copies of them too? Because I think I did that last year because then I would take them to the grocery store And they would put them as bag fillers.

Yeah.

Because this won't be enough, because I sit at a table for a couple of hours in the grocery store. So then I made copies and had them as the fillers.

Yep, I can get you some more copies.

Otherwise, I can make them on my printer.

And that's kind of what we have planned.

Last year I did the cards in the boxes. The year before we did the cards at the grocery stores. This year I'm going to try and do both.

Um, recruitment for volunteers. Anybody have any luck? I did not.

I had to and realized they haven't lived in Wisconsin long enough to know where anything was. So I let them off the hook for now. But next year, they both want to do it, so. They just moved here, one from California and one from Utah.

So we have, obviously, right now we have two, is it two slots that are currently, or three?

One, two, three, four, five.

And then Judy, six. So we, right, there's typically eight members. And so Judy is not here today. So there were already two open available appointments that we need. And we think we have located someone for one of the slots. But five of you, I think, have served your two appointments. two years. Right. And so you can't do more than four years per the bylaws. So five of you will be done in February of 2027. And so we, um, I believe there is a meeting in October. And so, um, I am working with the administrator right now to appoint someone. I'm hoping to have it brought to the September full County board. Um, the, uh, full county board is looking at doing things a little differently. It used to be if you had citizen members, you would just say, I'm appointing this person to my board, and they would allow that. But they had wanted to change the policy because Lisa Wilson, the administrator, said she would get something that just says, I want to volunteer, or I want to serve. with their name, and it didn't answer any questions as to why they were interested, what their qualifications were. And so they are developing something. I had Katie look, though, at GWAR, which is our funder for the meal program, and they had some nice questions that were already together. So I did send that to Lisa, and I said, could I just use this? Because I don't know how long your process is going to take. You know, county government is kind of slow and has to be reviewed by all of these different agencies or organizations, every committee, and I said I really want her to be appointed in September so she can join the October meeting so that she can hear from all of you and just kind of what has been done in the past, considering then after October I don't think we have a meeting until February.

And that'll be our last one.

Correct, and so... I'm working on it, and so she said that earlier this week they put together some questions, it was similar to what Katie had found, and so I said, well, it's a draft, but could I just have her do that as her application, get it submitted, and go from there. But if you know volunteers, again, the bylaws say that there has to be someone who has either participated in our home-delivered meal program or receives home-delivered meals. They can be a caregiver, a family member who is knowledgeable about the program. It can be people who obviously, food pantries or any of that, but it's really focused on people who understand programs and you know what the nutrition program is all about so if you know anyone that you think would really be interested you know or would be a good fit or is just willing to learn you know please pass them on to Katie and then she can you know, work with me to have the, whichever questionnaire they decide we need to do, so we can get some people appointed.

You're talking about volunteers for this committee? For this committee. ADRC, okay.

No, for this committee, for the Nutrition Advisory Council. All right. Because again, you know, I mean, there was a lot of talk about us, you know, staggering, because it was all started all at once, so everyone came on board at once, but now, again, you know, if we, We can get a few people on before because we have a few slots. We would have some staggering. Losing five people all at once is really...

It is. It's devastating. I think, Barb, you're the only one that is staggered. I'm the newest one. Correct. Exactly. So we won't have a quorum if it's just you.

Well, I've got a lot of personality.

So, again, if you can think of anyone that, you know, even like I said, is just interested, has even just attended our dining site before, or has family members that have, or family members who have gotten home-delivered meals currently or in the past, send them to Katie. It's not like this is hard. No, but your input is important. And so we want someone who at least understands the programs, but I don't think we make you work too hard. No.

It's a very easy job, and it's an interesting job, and I just need to find people that know Wisconsin a little bit.

It's true. So I'll try. But if you can, honestly, like I said, because otherwise, you know, just the way that this board was set up, you know, four years ago or whatever, you all were on all at once, so.

It goes fast. I think so, too. Yeah.

And again, it's not a huge commitment. I mean, you guys have it, you know, your meetings are scheduled far enough apart that it's not like you're meeting, you know, monthly. You have the five per year typically. And so it does go fast because, again...

All of a sudden, it's like, whoa, nothing. Here we are. The things that we do outside of our meetings are all volunteer.

Exactly. The outreach is so important, but you have all just stepped up and said, oh, I can do that. Oh, sure, I will help with that, which really promotes our programs really well. So if you can think of anyone, send them to Katie. We are looking. We are. We could give your people. Have we sent it to the site managers? Have we sent it to the site managers? Are you going to? They're aware. They're well aware. They're well aware. Yes.

We just lost drivers on our route. Oh, no. In fact, I think they split them. Reedsburg.

Mack Drive. Mack Drive. Mack Drive.

Maple Ridge Apartments. Yep. That route was just getting way too long, so we had to split it into two. Otherwise, no one was going to get hot food towards the bottom.

And we lost two drivers, three.

Well, that's too bad.

Yes. So we've got to find a new president. Yeah, we've got to find a new you because you do a lot of this. Well, I don't do that.

Like I said, if you can think of, and the dining site managers are aware. All of the ADRC staff are aware. So if they think of anyone, you know, that they think might be a possibility. I, last year I had taken a skill, which was Sauk County Institute of Leadership. So I've sent emails to all of the people I worked with in skill just to ask if they had, you know, any knowledge, any, you know. So they may have had, you know, parents, grandparents, you know, friends, family have used ours, but we haven't heard from anyone yet. So, I know.

I sent your email out to... We've got over 300 volunteers for the pantry, and I sent it out to all 300.

I know, it's hard. I think people are worried about time commitments and all of that, but I think you can all attest to the fact that it isn't a huge time commitment. But I think it gets harder and harder as people are just busy, and they just are afraid to take on one more thing.

Who knows? Maybe it'll get better in the fall and winter when people kind of slow down in their schedules a little bit and have a little bit more free time. Hopefully, yes.

Okay. Nutrition program report. Okay.

Under activities and issues, the first one is Renee Pierce accepted the SOC dining site manager position. She started at the end of June, and she's been really great over there. I've heard lots of good things about her, so we're really excited to have her. Tanner Gokerman filled the LTE position that we had open. for the summer. His last day was on Friday, so he's done, but he did a lot of delivery runs, breakfast bag pickups. He filled in at the dining site. He kind of just did whatever we asked him to, and he was a great little worker, so we were really happy to have him when we did. There was a listening session on July 2nd that I can let Marina talk a little bit more about. So do you want to go now? Yeah.

So we, in conjunction with Columbia County ADRC, we held a listening session and we invited DeSanto, Representative DeSanto and Sarah Kieske. Sarah did attend, which was great, but nobody from DeSanto's office was able to attend. We were told that they were gonna bring a representative, but nobody showed up. Which is kind of disappointing, but Sarah did a great job. We talked a lot about home-delivered meals. I would say like 80% of the meeting, we talked about home-delivered meals. So we had that great little issue brief that we've shared here with you all before, which gave a lot of information about like dollars for home-delivered meals, participant satisfaction and just a lot of different things. And so people were really interested. There was a lot of discussion. From Sauk County we had our ADRC chair Gail Burchill and Lori Grill also from our board attend. Otherwise, everyone else from, oh, and John from Habitat for Humanity was there. Otherwise, everyone else was from Columbia County. There were some drivers that talked about their experience. I think Sarah did a great job fielding the questions. I think she understands a lot more about the nutrition program and, you know, where the gaps are as far as funding goes. So hopefully she took some nuggets back and is talking with her other, you know, representatives and hopefully do some work with our nutrition program at the state level. But overall, I think it was a great day.

Yeah, cool. And then they, sorry, we did the dairy breakfast in the end of June. We had about 30 people show up to the booth for that. And we also participated in Ridiculous Days in July. And we had about 43 people come and visit our booth. We're working on the annual NAPIS and registration forms. They were given to all the dining site managers for completion. We're going to wait until the end of, sorry, the weekend before Labor Day, and then after that I'm going to mail out the ones that are not completed. Basically every year if you are a congregate diner, we have you fill out a registration form just to make sure that we're targeting the population of people that need to be served. So it just gets reported to the state and then at a federal level, so we just need those forms back. And then Trudy Mara of the Baraboo Lions Club presented on the basics of diabetes on July 22nd at our Reedsburg site and July 30th at our Sauk Prairie dining site. She was going to hit up our Lake Delton site, but unfortunately she had to go out for surgery, so we're hopeful she'll be back in October to finish up her little lecture series. She's really wonderful, great wealth of knowledge on diabetes, so really exciting to have her.

Does she still work somewhere, or is she retired?

She is retired, but she used to work, I think, in Baraboo.

She used to work for Home Health United. I worked with her there. She's wonderful.

And then upcoming activities and issues. In August, we are, like Quinn said, we're still recruiting for our Nutrition Advisory Council. We also have been hearing rumors about the Reedsburg United Methodist Church selling. This is where we utilize, this is where we do our Reedsburg dining site out of. Quinn contacted the pastor and she told Quinn they aren't selling the church currently, but it is an option and they're still exploring. The pastor reports that the option for selling does ensure that the ADRC will be able to stay in the arrangement of using the building as we currently are. We are still kind of looking at other options, though, just on the off chance that sale goes through and something, we're not allowed to use that space anymore.

I have at least 10 people in my building that go to church there, and I never heard a whisper about them selling.

I am very, my neighbors too, and she said that the attendance there is very, very low, and they have approached the Presbyterian Church to see if they could combine their parishes, and the Presbyterian Church was not interested. She said financially it's not good.

Yeah, I mean... we've had a number of parishioners come to us and tell us that they're trying to sell. And they had, I don't know if it was a... I don't know what kind of, it was a clothing drive or what they were doing. This was longer than that. But they had buckets that said, save our church. So they're hurting for money. And also they charge us a lot for rent monthly. And so with the budget process that we're going through now, 2027 is going to be a very difficult year for county government. And you know, they want to increase the rent from us, and so that is another reason for us to maybe look for another site where it's a little bit more reasonable for us.

Meg, you've got a big job.

No.

Any places in Reedsburg that would be an option? I was trying to think of what Meg and I had talked about, and last thing we... One of her last hopes was that we might have, like, a... food stand, a food truck. Or something mobile where we could, the diners could go from like a restaurant to a restaurant. But it never went anywhere. It was just a thought, a wish. I don't know if Willow Heights would be an option. That's where I started. But none of them ever came to dine.

So, no. Well, New Hollow Heights was a really nice senior apartment complex at one time. Years ago.

Years ago. I won't go back in there. I won't move in there. But none of the residents ever came and ate at our dining site.

Some of the residents came and ate, but they were all under 60. And they were able to eat because we had our dining site there.

No, no, no, at the church. None of them, since we moved to the church. Oh, I see what you're saying. Nobody at Willow Heights came to eat there.

And you're just a block away. Yeah, right across the street.

Correct. You Reedsburg folks have any ideas, please let me know.

I'm just trying to think. I don't know.

I have some spots written down. I did connect with Matt at the rec center under City Hall there, and he said no. So that was a suggestion given to us by our board.

Food pantry.

It was because they had a lot of other activities over lunchtime. What about the bowling alley?

They have, teens don't they all the time?

Because they have that one side room that people rent out for receptions and stuff.

Marty closes at 1 at the steakhouse. Maybe we can have it after that. We're going to do dinner. Or we start a breakfast program. I don't think he opens till 11. I don't know. I'll think about it though. Okay.

Yeah, Marty's might be an option, though, actually. They do have rooms. They have rooms, and they need the business. But learning doesn't change, so I don't know.

So probably wherever we would go, we would like to have our same meal. And Reedsburg sends out the most home-delivered meals. That's sometimes 55, 60 a day. So we need to have a space big enough that we can get out all those meals with all of the stuff that we have, right? And you know what? You used to volunteer, so you know the stuff. It's a lot. storage, the Oliver boxes, the trays, the steam table.

What was the reason you left the Cornerstone Church on 33?

Was it too far out? It was a barrier, for sure. We had an opportunity. One of the board members came to us, who actually volunteers at the site, and said our church is looking for an organization to take over because there used to be a daycare there. And so they were looking for an organization like ours with a mission that aligned with theirs. And so that is why we moved into there. We also have problems with mice at Cornerstone.

And we don't want that.

So it was a good move. You know, we were at Cornerstone. They let us in during COVID when it was dire and we had nowhere to go. So we are appreciative of them. But it's nice to be in town because then the volunteer pool is a lot bigger. Because when you have people trying to cross that busy highway during lunch, it's not great.

They need a Holiday Inn. They're not getting any business. Maybe they need something.

Have you ever gone by their parking lot?

Well, I know if my son comes to visit from out of town, they stay there instead of at my house. And how often do they come? About... A couple times a year.

Even the tournaments I heard, summer programs didn't do them a lot of. It's going to close.

That's the thing. If we want to have diners, you know, if they don't drive and they have to take a cab, they obviously, we need it in city limits so they can take, you know, the cab.

Have you tried Trinity Baptist Church?

It's on my list. Sacred Heart? Yes.

Probably not because they have the school lunch.

Yes. And that's the same with the other school, the Lutheran school, I think.

Sacred Heart and St. Peter's.

They both have lunch in their, yeah, they're limited on space. So back in the day when Meg and I were looking for a new spot, Knights of Columbus was also on our list and they were interested, but we chose not to go with them. So that's another place that's on the list of potentials. Because their building is pretty much vacant during the day. You drive past there, there's not everybody in there.

Helping Hands rents it for a week and a half in December. Who does? Helping Hands rents it for a week and a half in December. Well, we'll have to thumb work. Volunteer, get a meal.

There you go. Yeah, if you can think of anything, again, we're thankful for the site we have, but we've had so many different locations in Reedsburg thinking, oh, this is going to be great, and then after a little while, it just doesn't work. You don't want to go back to the country club. So they won't, yeah, the cost is out of our budget.

Is there a VFW type place? That's empty a lot. Do they have like a kitchen facility? I don't know.

I think we had that on the list. I think Marina was going to ask. I've not been to these places.

Richard Knook doesn't have anything to do with the VFW building.

Yeah, I'm not that familiar with.

He's in the American Legion at the VFW. Oh, I'm sorry. Yep. Yep. They have a very nice kitchen there with a dishwasher and a very nice kitchen. They might be accommodating. Yep, they could use the money too.

Who would I talk to?

Any idea? The number is on the outside of the building. John Noga is the commander of the VFW.

I don't know him, but... He's a really nice guy. Maybe somebody I know knows him and we could talk to him. My park manager knows everybody. I'll talk to her and see if she has anything.

Oh, I would just see if there's any interest anywhere. Sure. Yeah, I don't know what I'm talking about, so I won't move very far.

Yeah, it's right behind Arby's in Reedsburg. Right, okay, if you go into Reedsburg on 33, and it's the first, well, there's a light out at the Country Club, but then there's a second light as you're coming to town, and if you'd go right, you'll go into the driveway that takes you to the hardware store. And it's right across the street from Skidder Transfer.

It's an easy location. And I think there's parking. Yeah, there's a nice parking lot.

And it holds, I know when my husband and I hosted, or we were the chair people for the monthly VFW breakfast, that holds over 100 people.

which means there'd be lots of room for serving meals.

It would be, again, you know. And then there's the bar room, so there's another room.

We just have to make sure that there's, like, a dishwasher that, you know, can, I mean, those are the types of things, too, that we just have to make sure that they have, so that we can, you know, get our home delivered meals.

So do you have to have a place where you can store, like, the dishes that are brought back, or do you take, do they take them with them? You don't leave any of that stuff behind in the building, do you? No.

What type of dishes are you talking about?

Like, say, the dishes that they put the meals in to deliver.

The Oliver trays?

No, you're talking about the big pots.

I'm talking about do you have any utensils that would have to stay there? Yes. So that would be another issue then because I don't know if they would have space for that. Right. So that would be another whole issue. It's a question.

Another place that Sauk Prairie has is like a trap club.

Well, one of the trap clubs by us does have a kitchen, and they do meals. They do fish fries and game feeds and that kind of thing. I don't know if there's a trap club in the Reedsburg area.

There's a Reedsburg outdoor club, but that would probably be out of Reedsburg about as far. towards Laval, that's what the community or that church was. That's a nice facility, and there's lots of receptions and stuff out there, but I don't think that that would be good for people to get to.

Right, not for dinings, maybe. Okay. Good thought. Yeah, I mean, again, we're just looking for any ideas.

The Reedsburg Town Hall... Used to be the DMV, and I don't know if they still come to Reedsburg. That's a small building, and it's just a little kitchenette, so that I don't think would be workable.

They probably still need to have the three-bowl sink and that kind of thing, I'm imagining. They don't have that.

Where is that? That is if you go on 33 through Reedsburg towards Laval and just on the edge of town and there's Kruger printing right next to it. Oh, okay.

I don't know what you're talking. I did my driver's test there. You should know that.

I wonder about Marty's. What? Marty's is making, thinking of Marty's is making me think. I wonder if he would like the business.

Yeah, I wonder. They would have plenty of room.

Yeah. because they had to host the whole town.

And they have the big main dining room, and they have another room that's the library where VFW, where there's meetings that can be held. And then there's two other rooms that they can serve people in. And then there's the big ballroom, but they won't need the ballroom.

And we only had like 25 or 30 people. I think our biggest day... at the church. Country Club, we got up to 50, but the church, I don't think we went past 30. I don't remember. It was Rosa's wish, but we never made it to the 50 either.

There's some things to think about and ponder.

I didn't know it was an issue, so I'm glad I came today.

You're supposed to update me on this stuff. All right, and then in September, we've got Cow Chip and Malnutrition Awareness Month, or week, sorry, I shouldn't say week, not month.

What is the week? I think it's the second week.

14th through the 18th. Yeah, okay. And then in October, we have our annual nutrition program training. It's set for October 29th at the Alliance Energy Center in Madison. More information will come. And then hopefully Trudy will come back to Lake Delton to finish up her lecture series. And then for our output measures, total congregate clients we had from January through July, 226. And then for our home delivered meals, we had 244 clients. Total number of meals that we gave out in our congregate setting, 4,318. Our total HDM meals has been 19,150. We have not sent out any emergency meals and our breakfast meals are 6,000. Our survey, we haven't put that out yet. We'll get that done in December. And then looking at our goals. So in our completed activities, in March we completed the National Nutrition Month Outreach. We also did the Food Fair and Farmer's Market. In June we did the Dairy Breakfast. In July there was Ridiculous Days. Proposed activities for September, like I talked about already, is Cow Chip. And then September, now Nutrition Awareness Week. And then our last thing that we are working for in 2027 is to host a pop-up dining event. So I have reached out to the Spring Green Community Church as a potential spot to host the pop-up, and I'm just waiting on dates. We're looking at... the end of April to the early beginning of May. Kind of hoping that the weather would be nice so people could get out and go to that dining site. Funding, we're hoping to get, I think Marina submitted for a grant, so hopefully we'll get some funding through that. But that's kind of what we're planning and thinking right now. We had a meeting this morning with Juneau County because they do a lot of different pop-ups. So we got some additional ideas for things like that too. Okay.

Anybody have anything else that they wanted to discuss? Okay, the next meeting date and time. So that would be, if it's a Wednesday, would be October 28th.

Chip's worth long. And a report from the Malnutrition Awareness Month, what everyone did. And then, well, the nutritional program will be the 29th. And have our monthly report. And what else? We'll have the communications. Let me see. We could have recruitment for volunteers ongoing. And does anybody have anything else on the agenda, for the agenda?

If we have prospective volunteers, should we bring them to the October meeting for them to see and experience what it is we do?

If they're interested, absolutely. They could just be public. I mean, absolutely. Sit in the back row. That's completely fine.

Again, I think sometimes it's just the fear of the unknown or wondering how much you are gonna have to commit with your time and energy. So you've all been on this board a while, so you know what's expected. So word of mouth by you is the best, only because you can explain kind of what the board does.

Oh, you don't work it anymore? I had to retire back in February, I think it was. And then I had cataract surgery and it didn't go well. I still can't see very well.
