1:06:45 – 1:07:540

um I there were no conferences that I attended, so I have no report on that, but I just want to say that uh on Sunday, Metropolitan Little League had their opening day ceremonies. It was really well attended and even though it wasn't at the ball field, it was at the town center plaza and actually it was a really nice venue having it there because you had everybody can there together versus out in a ball field and all scattered along. Um I think they had about 200 players this year. Uh they're they're at their rosters are are gaining and which is good because there for a couple years they were really low. Um, so that's good to see. And, uh, other than that, it looks like summer's here and then it's gone. Spring's here and then summer's back. And who knows what's going on. But it's beautiful here in Santa Fe Springs. A lot of stuff going on. And, uh, congratulations to IB for your contract, uh, continue contract. Keep up the good work with Santa Fe Springs and all the other people that have contracts here. So, with that, I will end my comments.

1:07:52 – 1:08:310

Thank you, sir. Council member Amora, there's no conferences, but yeah, just uh uh and to Metro Little League opening day. It was a great event. Uh their board of directors and the president, it's such a a tight group. They're got a great operation and it shows. They got coaches that really want to be there and it that reflects upon the kids. But uh that was awesome. Uh welcome, uh our new CEO. Uh thank you for coming down. Looking forward to meeting with you and uh IB. Uh, thank you for all the work you do and yeah, get ready for a great summer. Thank you. Thank you, sir. Council member Martin,

1:08:28 – 1:09:080

thank you. Um, I missed the opening day. I was out of town, so I do apologize. I heard it was really great. I actually read today at Jersey. It was pretty cool to read to the little kids and just get them out there to read and stuff. And actually, I want to give kudos to Isabelle. Um, you were out uh doing your volunteering as a PSL volunteer. And actually, I heard really good comments like, "You're pretty good. Hope you can do it more than just a couple days a week or how many did, but thank you so much. You're actually doing what what you're out there to do." So, thank you so much. She's everywhere. Everywhere. Thank you. I I actually heard that she sleeps in that uniform.

1:09:05 – 1:09:180

I know. And uh to the new president chamber. Looking forward to working with you. Thank you. That's it. Thank you, Mayor. Thank you, Council Member Martin. Mayor Prom Rodriguez.

1:09:15 – 1:11:140

Yes. I too want to say what a great opening day that was. I want to thank all of our our uh staff that put it together. And of course Isabelle the she just does everything. She was out there with her uniform on and uh she helped with everything that you could think of. She's walking around making sure that we're all safe. And believe me, she is really making sure. She's not just there uh just to walk around. She makes sure all the kids are safe and uh playing the games. She she let me play one of those games right there. And I actually won a quarter holder. Is that what they're called? Okay. So, thank you, Isabelle. You do so much for our community. And if we don't if we don't say it enough, we sure appreciate you. We really do. And also, Gus, thank you so much for uh letting us uh play in the teens room, play pool, and win some of the kids. I'm telling you, it was just such a great event. The uh my grandson happens to be on the Metro League and we go over there and the coaches, they have such passion and uh big hearts. They really care about the kids and what they're doing, teaching them great stuff. And our chamber CEO, I want to say uh congratulations and I look forward to meeting with you. And uh also I want to say uh Ivy, thank you for the contract. uh you just thank you for everything that you do. Uh Sacramento was real fun out there and you made it a lot of fun. And tomorrow I get to read to the kids at Jersey Avenue School. I'm looking really forward to that. So we all read to them and we all just make sure that our city is uh just keep moving forward. That's what we care about. Making sure that that everything is um a-ok. Okay. Thank you. Have a nice evening. Uh, thank you, Mayor Pro Tim Rodriguez. All right, I do have to report out on a so I

1:11:12 – 1:13:100

went to a conference called ICA. So, it's independent cities uh association and um so one of the things that we actually talked about was the coastal commission. And at first when we talked about it, I was a little like, you know, does this really have to do with the city of Santa Fe Springs? But more and more you start hearing about how a lot of these uh housing uh are just privatizing their beach and they're making it seem like we we're not allowed to use the beach. So for those of us who pretty sure city manager and some of us probably grew up on that beach, you know, being able to have a place to go to and relax with our family. Um uh you know it's fitting to say that you know we are fighting to make sure that people are still allowed to go to the beach and just hang out with their families. So uh just to make sure that the privat uh people who are trying to privatize those beaches to make sure that it's it's not just for them they may be paying the millions of dollars but it also is for all of us to to actually use. So yeah um that's some those are some of the things I actually did where um cyber security we talked about um smart revenue and growth um social media for elected officials. Um I I have my different view on it there. I I I think uh some individuals I think they enjoy it a little too much. I'm pretty sure uh Ron and Sloan would probably agree with me and the people who gave our presentation I think they're on it like every day a little way too much for my calling. I think it's not you know I think we got to leave it to the professionals and I'm pretty sure our city manager and our city attorney would probably advise us not to do that. So that's what I took of it. But either way, it's part of the process where we go learn something and we either take away from it or or or we bring it back and, you know, we share it with other people to to realize. Um, do I need a report out on scripts? Are you sure? No. I'm just asking my city attorney just to make sure. No,

1:13:06 – 1:15:060

even John. No, no, no. All right. So other than that, um I did also I also was able to attend our um little league opening day. It was phenomenal just to see the kids uh you know just the fact that they're able to play ball, you know, um boys and girls, you know, they're just so excited and and you know, the fact that we have these coaches and and people who want to volunteer their time. Um I kudos to the Odales Fiades, the the Metro Little Little Little League president. I mean, the time and effort that you got to put in to to actually run a league and make sure that people are happy with the way you run run a league, it's pretty difficult. So, I'm pretty sure anybody who is in a director role or or, you know, supervisor role, sometimes you're not going to make everybody happy. But, I'm glad the weather was was in par with with what was happening that day. Uh, I just want to let you guys know today I had a chance to to go to the we had an icon conference and um I was able to go with our city manager Reneia Kuang Nuin who's our community development programs manager. Did I say that right or probably and then also um um Claudia um Himenez and she's part of our planning department. And so we are we are officially a part of what's called the big four. And the big four consists of the city of commerce, the city of uh of Vernon, the city of industry, and the city of Santa Fe Springs. And what we're trying to do is bring like-minded um like-minded industrial manufacturing businesses to to come together and collaborate. And uh it makes it a lot easier. Um, in the room we probably had, I would probably say roughly over 30 developers who looked at the interest in Santa Fe Springs and these three other cities. If you probably had to value how much the value of all of them put together was,

1:15:03 – 1:16:380

um, hopefully I'm not mistaken, but it was probably over a trillion dollars that was in that room. first time I've ever been with that much. You know, I mean, you could literally smell the money. You know, you just, you know, I know I'm saying that as a joke, but it's like one of those things where you're talking to people and you're talking about the investments that potentially can come to the city of Santa Fe Springs. And anytime um we got to talk to them and they got to they were able to ask us questions and the biggest scene is on our part, we're what what can we do to help them? And I think uh the communication was actually very effective and just the fact of being able to streamline the process a lot easier for them. And and not only that, we want them to know that we're looking for point of sales. Point of sales is how it's our way of making sure that businesses pay into the city of Santa Fe Springs because we get that point of sales tax. And then from there we get to use that not only for employees um your jobs but also when it comes to our residents and and and you know so whatever we can do to subsidize or make things a lot easier in the city of Santa Fe Springs. So other than that um with that being said anybody else? No. All right. With that being said, I would like to adjourn this meeting in memory of longtime residents since 1951, husband and wife Edund Martinez and Virginia Martinez. I also have Lydia Korea Ferrisa Ruben Avenia Senior and Lydia Gonzalez. Meeting adjourn
