3:43Speaker 1

There are no members of

3:45Speaker 4

the public on the team

3:46Speaker 1

at this time and no members in present.

3:50 – 4:07Speaker 2

Then we will move on to general business to discuss potential and discussion and potential action on cultural commissioning's work plan goals and activities for FY twenty twenty five twenty six. So let's start with

4:11Speaker 1

Am I sharing it for you? Okay.

4:16 – 4:37Speaker 2

Number one, host and enhance multicultural efforts to encourage and acquaint Santa Clara residents with cultural diversity. So activity number one is plan and implement summer concerts starting in, looks like, July 2020. It should be 2026,

4:37Speaker 1

I think. These are the because these ones happened Oh, okay. In this fiscal year, they're still in here.

4:44Speaker 2

Oh, okay. We don't have any dates for next year?

4:47Speaker 2

I see. Okay.

4:48Speaker 1

Waiting for the EDMC to move along a little bit further to figure out what our dates for going

4:53Speaker 2

to see. Lewis, do you

4:54Speaker 1

need to speak So to

4:59 – 5:35Speaker 4

in the planning for the dates for our summer concerts, we're looking to move up and start the summer concerts early to give the city time to complete all the upgrades that they need to complete at Central Park. And so I think our is it our last concert that we were thinking to closing out in the North Side? Is that that's what we're looking at. Usually, close at Central Park. Okay.

5:35 – 6:09Speaker 4

But this time first. Getting the takes early on is is gonna help, you know, book the talent, and we also have provided the genre that we would like to see. And, hopefully, that will help Mission College plan their dates early. So the the the trick here is to define this early so they can see where we're gonna be and so they can finish it.

6:09Speaker 2

So we don't have conflicts?

6:10Speaker 4

No. So there are no conflicts. Right.

6:12Speaker 2

So if we were to start concerts earlier, say, in June when it's still the current fiscal year, how would that work?

6:21 – 6:48Speaker 1

That's fine. We have we usually split the needle a little bit with those and run two in this fiscal year and then run the the three in the other fiscal year. So that would be consistent with what we've done in the past. Okay. So we could run to you know, we'd run May, June, and then run the rest of them in July.

6:48 – 7:10Speaker 1

There's talk of the venue being combined with the night market that they're gonna build at 99900 Lafayette downtown, and perhaps the venue would be tied in with the rest of the larger event series that the city is trying to do around the 2026

7:11Speaker 4

So so they they're calling it the night market as opposed to the village? I know they they keep loving it. Yeah.

7:16 – 7:56Speaker 1

They haven't really named it yet. Globally, they're calling it just as a category, a night market. That's but the the vision is that the venue would be kind of prepared to have lights and and grass and tables and chairs and, you know, heaters if we needed power, portable restrooms, and that kind of thing. And then we would be able to bring in, you know, the rest of the skeleton to it. So food vendors, if we wanted an art activity along with the music, we could do that, those kinds of things.

7:56 – 8:10Speaker 1

So they they were they're getting pretty close to landing the plane on the this venue, and so I think, we're we're certain that we can come up with some dates here.

8:11 – 8:43Speaker 2

So just to connect those dots, the EDMC, which you mentioned, is the economic development and marketing committee that has been meeting separately every couple of weeks, to plan events for city residents around Super Bowl and the FIFA World Cup. So that those the Super Bowl is in early February. The World Cup is mid June to mid July, but they're talking about doing all kinds of other events for people who live here, not for the people who are gonna buy a ticket to Levi's Stadium.

8:44 – 8:56Speaker 2

And and we may end up, from what I I'm hearing also, merging some of those with our traditional concerts for the park and and street dance.

8:56 – 9:11Speaker 4

Yeah. Yeah. Utilizing it so we can activate and help to develop diarrhea and see. And here, it's also testing grounds because we're if we can move on to a second one to the street

9:11Speaker 3

Street dance. Mhmm.

9:12 – 9:39Speaker 4

So for the street dance, we are investigating using Homestead. There there are a couple of things that we can we need to look through. There is a bus line that runs through, so the city has to do the due diligence on doing that and seeing what kind of, van can accommodate that space. So we have some ideas. So

9:42Speaker 4

you know, I know the current location is big enough. But

9:48Speaker 2

That worked well.

9:48Speaker 6

It it worked

9:49 – 10:03Speaker 4

well. Yeah. So but moving it closer to Lafayette, and it will allow us to continue to activate, I I call it the village. You call it night market. Right? So Yeah.

10:03Speaker 1

Deliver that space. The Lafayette space is gonna be Yeah.

10:07 – 10:25Speaker 4

Night night's a Lafayette. Right? So Yeah. Yeah. So, you know, it's it's kinda reinforcing the fact that we're using that that area. But, you know, just like when we started doing due diligence for the North Side, there were quite a few things that we needed to overcome to to get a better source.

10:28Speaker 2

Okay. Anything else about the street dance?

10:33Speaker 3

Would it be the same band, or you want to rotate?

10:37Speaker 4

We used them twice already. Yeah. So we're looking at something similar.

10:41Speaker 2

Something similar, but right around same genre? Oh,

10:49 – 11:15Speaker 4

I I I was pitching the Mariachi. They have done similar venues big venues in Redwood City. So but they come they yeah. We when we were discussing, it's like a combination concert and, like, art and wine festival type thing. Right? So

11:16 – 11:31Speaker 4

So they they they can handle the drug crowd, and they're picking up their they play all kinds of different music. So but maybe you can look them on YouTube. They're called the Alma Mariachi.

11:31Speaker 2

Anything that makes people dance.

11:33 – 11:45Speaker 4

Oh, and and they do. They they really do. So it's not just the mariachi. They they they do they do quite well. So they are actually a Southern California band, but they come up here and they do a kaput.

11:48Speaker 4

So yeah. Yeah. In terms of getting the attendance, it will definitely draw that kind of a crowd.

11:55Speaker 2

Okay. Great. And maybe going into Friday night live events. Has that subcommittee been meeting?

12:05Speaker 1

We still have. Okay. Okay.

12:09Speaker 2

Are we still thinking that we'll do some in this, like, late winter stream of 2026?

12:16 – 12:31Speaker 4

Yeah. No. Not not for the winter. It's it's too close to have something K. Especially when they're adding everything for the for for super bonus time.

12:31 – 12:49Speaker 2

So Yeah. Yeah. Okay. The group wedding has been tabled for this year, but going to pursue that. And then secure sponsors for cultural special cultural commission special events.

12:51 – 13:09Speaker 1

So we will release the packet in June, January, Probably the January. So by the year of February, maybe you should have it. And,

13:11 – 13:29Speaker 2

Kim, based on what we were talking about in the economic development committee earlier today, that initiative is gonna have its own sponsor packages. And some of them might be some of these night markets or concerts or something like that. So

13:29Speaker 2

Will they be distinct sponsor packages?

13:32 – 14:00Speaker 1

That is yet to be determined. We'll definitely put out our own packages. I don't know how theirs will hold Mhmm. Marry with ours yet or how we will you know, how we'll we'll how they'll be similar or different yet. Definitely, their price points that they're pitching today were a lot higher than our ours are. Yeah. We were able to raise some pretty good money,

14:00Speaker 4

so we'll see.

14:02 – 14:16Speaker 1

Yeah. Yeah. That's part of the reason why I need to wait a little bit more time to see how we're gonna internally marry those ideas together. Yeah. Okay.

14:17 – 14:54Speaker 2

Okay then. Moving on to goal number two, develop and encourage interactive art opportunities to provide temporary performing cultural, and public art in the city. So the first one is advise and recommend public art first to the city council for public benefit. I have some good news there. Rider has been extended until mid February. Yay. So, yeah, through the Super Bowl. Kim, these vinyl banners, I didn't remark on them. I didn't get close to them. Do they have an end date on them?

14:54Speaker 1

They do, but we're able to put a sticker over that. Okay. And then they can let me remember that.

15:05Speaker 2

It might be fun to even have, you know, extended by popular demand, something like that.

15:11 – 15:25Speaker 1

Yep. So we can put, an extension on it. And then because, there's other banners coming in, it will get covered from time to time, and then it will open back up again. So Okay. About the about the time.

15:25Speaker 2

So and very small costs, we'll be able to reuse those and put a little sticker on them?

15:29Speaker 1

Yep. Yep. Less than $100.

15:31Speaker 2

So that's not something we would need to vote on because we still have a little money left?

15:34 – 15:45Speaker 1

Yep. Yep. Sorry. Yep. Been out. We didn't even spend all the $500 on the two banners. Great. $3.75 or something like that. Okay. Very good. So we're good. Do you need to check dates?

15:47Speaker 3

No. I just wanna we just

15:48 – 16:03Speaker 1

need to order the sticker to go look for it and just remind Nicole it'll stay up, and then they can cover it. And then Okay. That can get opened up when it's available. Got it. Okay. Yeah.

16:04Speaker 2

Okay. Is commissioner Diaz online yet? I wonder if or if either of you have an update on this traffic box per Oh, yeah. The Robin does. Yeah.

16:16 – 16:40Speaker 7

Yeah. We're currently working out, like, the insurance, getting them all compliant with insurance, getting w nines, all of that. And once that gets once they're compliant, then we can push forward with the agreements, and they'll just have to get routed for signatures. So, you know,

16:41Speaker 1

aiming I'm I don't know

16:43Speaker 7

if anybody would get started in November, but possibly December.

16:46Speaker 2

Call usually in that kind of rainy season when there's a risk of bad weather. Yeah.

16:51 – 17:16Speaker 7

But all six are confirmed and have started the process. We had a a Zoom meeting with them, and Candy attended as well. And so that went good just to kinda give them the information, and it was nice because then they shared some information too. Some of them have a lot of experience and little tricks of the trade. Yeah.

17:16Speaker 2

And so Okay. A good progress? Yeah.

17:25 – 17:46Speaker 1

Second. And, five of the six artists were in attendance. So Oh, that was that was great. And, the artist that is in front of the convention center. It's pretty hot to finish hers in in December. Yeah. Okay.

17:46Speaker 7

November 9. She's the closest to being done.

17:51 – 18:23Speaker 2

Okay. Great. Next is hosting an indoor sculpture exhibition. We typically do that every other year. So this would be FY twenty twenty six, twenty seven. So not starting any earlier than July year. So we don't need to discuss that right now. Next is the Halloween home decorating contest. I'd love to hear how that goes or how it went when you met the the people when you were delivering their yard signs and the winners? Oh,

18:26 – 18:37Speaker 5

the winners? Well, the the the two winners, still feel we're delighted to receive these signs. One said, oh, this is our last hurrah. We're going to move to Arizona next year, and

18:38Speaker 5

We've been trying for twenty five years to win.

18:40Speaker 2

Oh, perfect timing for that. Yeah.

18:44Speaker 5

I didn't tell them they would only want sort of

18:46Speaker 4

would They don't need to do it.

18:49 – 19:01Speaker 5

They weren't too worried. They want a stiff competition, but the and then the other one was similarly happy. And I think you all have the same experience. Right? Yeah.

19:01Speaker 6

I think District 2, person I met, he was very happy, and he said that he should also spread this to more and more people can participate. Mhmm. That was the And just need

19:12 – 19:55Speaker 3

To that, I had literally every time team used to send the reminder, I took some printout. Put I don't know who are the neighbors. But whenever I see, like, you know, really attractive one, good one, I put a door, like, the poster flyer over there. And I'm so glad the district one, the one who won, they deserve it. But we had couple of them. We have a group. A couple of them said, oh, we do so late. And in fact, there is another one just across the street, the whoever win won. They are fantastic, but they did on twenty seventh. Only they started putting everything together.

19:56 – 20:41Speaker 2

They said, oh, '20 we don't do Halloween is an interesting holiday because most people don't decorate their house until the day of. Yes. But that makes it very hard to declare the winners and get the map and get the signs to the winners and all that in time. And un unlike the holiday home decorating where people might decorate the whole month of December. You know? Yeah. Halloween. And next year, if it's on a Tuesday, you know, maybe people will do it the weekend before, but maybe not. So it's always iffy. I I did see one comment that some people were very, very delighted and shared widely the online map that we had of all the entries.

20:41Speaker 2

That was a big hit. Not just the winners, but all the entries. So

20:45 – 21:09Speaker 3

So the District six winner, her 90 years mom was coming for the first time. And it was beautiful. The everyone's picked somehow, we we put out flyers and we are advertising, but there are many houses that they didn't get, like Right? Yeah. Yeah.

21:10Speaker 3

Either they didn't get to know or there is, like, how do we market? That's the question. Like, how do we do?

21:17Speaker 2

Yeah. That was a good a good time to take it think about what we can do better

21:22Speaker 2

Both for next Halloween and for the holiday in December. Mhmm. So

21:27 – 22:01Speaker 5

So one of the things that we thought about was that perhaps instead of advertising it like a contest to change the focus to be a little bit more, like, let other people see your display you know, get on our list. And then the people on the list, you know, you could win. But just to promote the idea of being on the list, there is four houses on Fremont. It's pretty much Pierce that were kinda would have won best group had they applied. They had a haunted house, and there were people clearly from other neighborhoods that had driven all the way over there.

22:01 – 22:28Speaker 5

And I was disappointed they weren't on the map. Mhmm. Mhmm. But something else I thought about just today, I saw something on next door. Someone was advertising their idea of the Los Moortes altar. Mhmm. And that was maybe we could also get more participation if we try to tie the two in together. Mhmm. I don't know if that's culturally okay or not, but

22:29Speaker 4

but the city had a good one, nice one. I saw it on their way out.

22:35Speaker 4

mentioned about admission.

22:36Speaker 1

Did you see it?

22:37Speaker 1

Did go see it?

22:39Speaker 1

That's nice.

22:39 – 23:16Speaker 2

You mentioned Nextdoor too, and we were talking about having a Nextdoor account with a cultural commission Yeah. So that we can probably reach a lot more people in our own neighborhoods. Or Yeah. At least I'm I'm not on Nextdoor very much, but I know it's you can designate whether you want your message to go to people within a two mile radius or a five mile radius or whatever from your physical address. Right? Yes. It So so we need to find out if we can get a Nextdoor account that's not any of us personally, but the Cultural Commission.

23:17 – 23:29Speaker 3

Maybe there will be a business account or something. I don't know if that cost money. If the business account, if we'll open one under our city address It's through the city. Okay. It's through the city.

23:29Speaker 7

Yeah. The city has, like, a account, and then they have some staff that have them. Like, yeah, parks and recreation. So I just

23:40Speaker 3

Can we find out

23:40Speaker 2

if if we could use that for December for the holiday home decorating?

23:46 – 24:11Speaker 3

Then that's going to actually reach out to every contractor instead of your neighborhood. Mhmm. But I was seeing in the library, there's a screen where they keep on advertising what the upcoming events, and that's mainly the library events. Mhmm. So, usually, this year, I didn't get but, usually, I go ahead and give the flyer so that they can circulate it faster than is a couple of minutes.

24:20Speaker 4

I I have a question.

24:22Speaker 7

Yeah. The city one.

24:27 – 24:56Speaker 4

we get our utility bill, and I know everybody gets a utility bill, we get the inserts in there. I I remember many years ago, we had to try to get on the the schedule. The schedule. To send it out. Right? And now that we kinda define the summer concert earlier enough. And if we define the dates for

24:57Speaker 2

The calendar.

24:57 – 25:20Speaker 4

Halloween comes early enough, we can give a calendar, and that could be the insert with the utility bill, and we can reach those people who do not have social footprint or that is reduced. Because, you know, we blast to social, but we're missing quite a few other people. Right? So so if we can do that early enough in the year, then,

25:21Speaker 1

you know We can look into that.

25:22Speaker 6

Yeah. We can we can look into that.

25:23Speaker 2

And did you get me to a question as well about getting on the the library?

25:28Speaker 1

Library screens? Yeah. Okay. We can look at that. We sent our flyer the flyer's there.

25:36Speaker 2

But we didn't ask specifically how we get on the On

25:39Speaker 1

the screens. Yeah. Yeah. Okay.

25:41Speaker 7

I see that Great America is back up and running.

25:44 – 26:02Speaker 1

Is back up and running. Don't think you do a contest on Great America. Not the contest. But We can certainly know that that one's back up and running. We'll do it. We're gonna try it was back up just in time for art and wine this year, like, two days before or something like that. So Yeah.

26:03Speaker 2

Okay. So for the holiday, the contest is going to be released on 11/24.

26:12Speaker 1

That's the plan, and I just wanted to confirm.

26:15Speaker 2

It's right before Thanksgiving. Is that right?

26:17 – 26:37Speaker 1

Yep. K. And I had sent the I just wanna confirm the subcommittee as I sent them the guidelines to see if, you know, you guys have a taste of it. It's a little fast and furry and frenzy. And, the holiday one, there's a lot more houses usually to review.

26:37Speaker 2

And But also it's a time. Tighter deadline.

26:40 – 27:04Speaker 1

Oh, tighter deadline. Because we actually close, and we're meant to be closed on the well, not meant to be closed on the twenty second, but it's it's it was tight this year. We we slipped by a day. So just wanna make sure that and everybody's holidays are really tight that we have a committee that can go through the guidelines and are ready to go.

27:06Speaker 3

Shared a proposal with you. Did you receive it? Google Docs.

27:13Speaker 1

I did not get a Google Doc. Okay. No. So

27:17Speaker 3

how do I join the Zoom call to present? You can join the Zoom. Yep. Yep.

27:23Speaker 1

And I can I'm happy to stop sharing.

27:31Speaker 2

It would be in the agenda email that you got for me.

27:44Speaker 6

I don't know what's How many people are attending today?

27:46Speaker 7

Today at 01:28. The.

27:49Speaker 1

same day. I submit

27:50Speaker 2

to the. It's the at 01:28. Sorry.

28:02Speaker 1

Yeah. 01:18.

28:08Speaker 7

Alright. Okay. I don't know. Let me see if I can get on.

28:13Speaker 3

How can I share my screen?

28:15Speaker 2

Yeah. Down at the bottom, the the green button.

28:18 – 28:31Speaker 1

mean, gotta go out there. Oh, yeah. Okay. Go ahead and then accept the Yep. Okay. No. I got it.

28:34Speaker 2

Down below the Will

28:35Speaker 1

it let you share any too? Mhmm. Okay. Good. Forward it to you. I do have it.

28:40Speaker 3

I don't know. Unless it

28:42Speaker 2

went to your other. Yeah. Like, two folders.

28:45Speaker 4

Like, I have

28:45Speaker 7

an other and

28:46 – 29:11Speaker 3

a folder. Dates we have put on this. Mhmm. What's the event? What date? And these dates are according to Kim's the that you sent. The method also, we have written that how will these things happen. So the announced contest, Facebook, Instagram, Nextdoor, posters, banners, flyers, and we can add on to other ideas as well.

29:11Speaker 6

I agree with them.

29:12 – 29:31Speaker 3

Yeah. And the submission date line the submission deadline, entrance complete, Google form, judges receive entry. So, Kim, this was a question here that do we get it if the and it is closing on Friday nineteenth, then when are we going to get the list?

29:31 – 30:01Speaker 1

Because We should have it closed at, like, twelve on Friday or something crazy if you need it on that day, and then and then I can get it sent to you. Yeah. And then I can send it to you guys usually by by one or two. Yeah. And then you can have the weekend to go and book. Yeah.

30:01Speaker 3

So the judging will be done Saturday and Sunday then. We can we'll have two days in that case.

30:08Speaker 1

Which might that'll be good. Mhmm. I'll put more time.

30:12Speaker 3

And the winners will be announced on Monday evening,

30:17Speaker 3

we'll just the same method will

30:20 – 30:33Speaker 1

sum up our scores and all. There was one Charles that was on both lists. I never responded to that because I was, like, fast and furious on something else. What did we get that? Did I just

30:33Speaker 5

I think it was okay. It was the Myrtle one. Is that the Myrtle one that was in San Jose?

30:38Speaker 5

Yeah. I think we are thinking about that.

30:40Speaker 1

Okay. Anyway, we reconciled all those. Thank you.

30:45Speaker 5

And thank you for that.

30:47Speaker 1

Alright. Well done.

30:49Speaker 3

December, we can deliver the yard signs. Mhmm. And so the yard signs will be given to us on Friday itself. Right?

30:59 – 31:22Speaker 1

Yep. I'll call you as soon as they're in Mhmm. And let you know. They'll we'll try and get them in that week of the what's the week of the nineteenth? So so, like, the week of the fifteenth, we'll try and get them in, and I'll just send you all an email saying they're in. Come get them. I don't know.

31:25Speaker 3

This notice there Kim, I didn't get this note pretty much.

31:29 – 31:51Speaker 1

I don't know. The last committee just wanted to know when Hong Kong Kwanzaa was just as an FYI. So they were aware of that. So we didn't publicize that. It was more of an awareness. So I are those the dates for this year? Are those for last few dates? Okay.

31:53 – 32:37Speaker 3

And then is the welcome message? We just changed it a little. Sounds good. Okay. And then how to enter? So here, we have put Friday, December 19 at so this should be changed to twelve. Mhmm. And then group entry eligibility. Mhmm. Contest rules open only to residents of Mhmm. Outward exterior, complete the online entry form, and the cultural commissioner commissioner judge entry. Mhmm. Mhmm. Then judging criteria, five points, explanation, lighting, decorations. Decoration should be visible.

32:37 – 32:48Speaker 3

So originality, creativity, overall theme. Mhmm. So when we are talking about lighting, is it that they are the visibility or the lights lights?

32:48Speaker 1

Could be defined by the subcommittee. Okay.

32:51Speaker 3

You want it to be. Lights as lights and

32:55Speaker 1

Yeah. So hot like, decorative lighting.

32:58Speaker 2

Yes. Yeah. Versus having a big sense of the spotlight. Spotlight on the other or something like that. Or

33:05 – 33:33Speaker 3

Yeah. So does everyone okay. Do I change it to decorative lighting to make it more Sure. And the judging process, eight winners will be selected, best of best, best group, and each district winner. So one group entries may not win one award. Previous this one we added, previous year's winners are ineligible to win the same prize.

33:37 – 34:03Speaker 3

they can if they won last year, the district award, they can win best of best, but not the same district. Or they can be in it. Yes. What you win is a decorative yard sign, merit certificate, photos of winning homes featured on social media. Label will be added to the official Google map. Or

34:03Speaker 1

address or submission will be added to the official visit.

34:09Speaker 5

Well, I think what we were trying to say there was that they're all gonna be on the map. Right. So the winner is not gonna be on the map, but we're gonna add

34:17Speaker 1

a label saying they're better. Got you.

34:20Speaker 5

If that makes sense. I wasn't sure how to say that.

34:26 – 34:43Speaker 3

Conscious closure message, we changed just a little bit. Thanks for your enthusiasm. The submissions are now closed and judging is underway. Nice. Nice. And the communication plan, We talked about the delivery, the

34:43Speaker 7

email. Mhmm. Mhmm.

34:45 – 35:05Speaker 3

I mean, the message we tried to keep it universal Mhmm. Every place, but we just wanted to take the commissions work on it, whether, you know, it should be universal or we should change it on Nextdoor and Facebook to make it a bit bit precise. Oh, like, I don't think it would need to

35:05 – 35:17Speaker 2

be a different message on Nextdoor and Facebook. Okay. I'm sorry. I can't think of a situation where that would be required. Did you think of one?

35:17Speaker 5

It was Nextdoor. Say something like, get off my head.

35:22 – 35:35Speaker 4

That's most of messages. Someone stole my notification from Sunnyvale. I need to restrict that. Someone stole my package. Oh, yeah. They did exactly all of those from Sunnyvale.

35:35Speaker 5

So they never want a next door message.

35:37 – 35:55Speaker 3

So these two will change the next door post launch and the Facebook, Instagram, and the social media with a similar language that is here. Okay. Same too. Yes. Then the winner announcement will be sent, and that is

36:02Speaker 2

Good job. So you all had fun? Yes. So

36:10Speaker 1

thumbs up. Commission, you guys good with the plan?

36:14Speaker 2

What's up? Do we need

36:15Speaker 1

to vote? No. Just a straw vote is fine. So Good. Yep. Okay. Thank you.

36:23Speaker 2

K. Then moving on to the Citi Interactive web based public art map. Sure, Samara. Do you have an update on that?

36:36Speaker 4

No. We're just compiling before we sit down and do that on that.

36:40 – 36:55Speaker 2

Okay. I'm I'm more than willing to to help, as I mentioned, take photographs or whatever. But I think, ideally, this would be done in mid January. So when we start getting tourists coming in to the Super Bowl, we have something that we

36:55Speaker 3

I know that would

36:56Speaker 2

be a resource to to share with the towels or,

37:02Speaker 1

you know, whatever.

37:04Speaker 2

If we have some things that we can hand

37:06Speaker 4

out or share

37:06Speaker 2

a link. Yeah. Yeah. So I I will help to facilitate that in any way. I can K.

37:17 – 37:39Speaker 2

Next, goal number three, raise the visibility of months. We've had a couple meetings, and everybody got copy, I believe, of the proposal. And did you all get a chance to read it? I don't know if I can share yet.

37:40Speaker 1

I invited you to be a panelist a couple of times. Know. I probably was not looking. Yeah. So let me try

37:47Speaker 1

Okay. I think it expired. Yeah. I just saw I

37:50 – 38:24Speaker 2

just saw another one. Okay. Rejoined, and it's just reminded you. Okay. I think it's working. Yay. Okay. Okay. Okay. So this is for the commemorative months.

38:24 – 39:18Speaker 2

For the past couple of years, you've been a little bit passive about this, doing those coloring work pages. We had kind of two goals. We wanted to, number one, make sure that we were aligned with what the city council was declaring as a commemorative month or giving a a special recognition to certain, you know, groups for a three hour one. And also realizing that we don't have a budget at least until next July, that we wanted to take advantage of any resources we already have or find ways that we can work on our relationships more to make some effective commemorative events. So, for example, on Martin Luther King Day, perhaps partner with the library.

39:18 – 39:52Speaker 2

We've got several ideas for partnering with the library. I know they do a lot of events as well. Maybe we could kind of co brand it a little bit or, you know, work with them if we have some ideas to bring, like inviting students to dress as historical figures and deliver speeches. Could be something that we do at the a public room at the library, or we could maybe that's the kind of thing we could maybe do at the Triton sometime. And, also, we've got the Runar New Year.

39:53 – 40:37Speaker 2

That is actually, I think, the first of no. It's the January this coming year. So the city council does issue an official proclamation. We could also have some educational events possibly at the Triton and invite the local East Asian community members to curate display cases in City Hall. Kim, I can't remember if the if you had already or if you were working with us yet, but there are those two display cases in City Hall, one by the city clerk's office and one up that little stairwell to the on the permit side. And Mhmm. At one point, the cultural commission was invited to put displays in those.

40:37Speaker 1

They would love displays in those. Yeah.

40:40Speaker 7

I think they just recently started, like, talking about getting it up and running. It hadn't been since COVID, and it was shut down.

40:46 – 41:03Speaker 2

So So several of our commemorations, we thought, well, why don't we just put something in those cases? So K. You probably also saw that in this proposal. So I'm not gonna go through the whole thing if you all read it. Is there anything that you objected to or anything you thought that we left out?

41:04 – 41:41Speaker 2

So we wanted to partner with the library, the city, cultural existing cultural community groups and kind of broaden our relationships with all of them and either invite them to be part of our events or ask whether the cultural commission can help them with their event. Or or need to, do you have anything to add? Do you wanna

41:42Speaker 1

That's pretty much Yeah. Okay.

41:45 – 42:03Speaker 2

So the future proposal, we probably do wanna flesh out a little bit more, but do we need to vote on this to be accepted as the number of months action plan, if you will, for the coming years?

42:03 – 42:18Speaker 1

It's it's certainly helpful to you know, the the patient wants to do that to figure out what next steps are and move the plan forward.

42:22 – 43:24Speaker 2

So if everybody gets got a chance to see it and didn't have any suggestions or edits, some of these we did add that we hadn't had before, and some of them, like, city council does issue special proclamations, but they're not necessarily for cultural events. So we didn't include everything that the city council is recognizing. So if there's no other comments or objections, you know, we we are adding a few additional potential activities that perhaps we would like one or more commissioners to attend. So we would just like to ask that everybody commit to trying to participate in this plan as well as their time permits. So with that, I'll go ahead and take a vote.

43:24 – 43:37Speaker 2

Alright. I entertain a motion. To accept this proposal for future events.

43:38Speaker 5

We accept the proposal for future commemorative events.

43:46Speaker 2

K. Do you have a second?

43:47Speaker 4

May I second?

43:53Speaker 2

So disregard.

44:02 – 44:37Speaker 2

Ichis. Aye. Silara. Aye. And myself. Aye. So that passes. Stop sharing now. Go back to. Goal number four, enhance communication and media strategy to increase community awareness of the cultural commission.

44:41 – 45:00Speaker 2

Present accomplishments to city council. That will be sometime next year. I'm sure we don't put a date yet. And then develop, maintain, and grow partnerships and collaborations with external organizations. Fisher and I have discussed this a little bit, but we don't have anything concrete to bring that.

45:02 – 45:13Speaker 1

Looks like you do. This is your proposal. This could be your commemorative month proposal. You could have some partnerships for

45:13 – 45:57Speaker 2

Oh, well oh, that's true too. Right? Yeah. Yeah. We were talking more about well, that's true. So it's a different subcommittee now, so I wasn't thinking of it in the same context. But, yeah, we were talking about, you know, specifically external organizations more like the chamber of commerce and things like that rather than the cultural groups. But it this might all be evolving as we go through the economic development and, you know, all those relationships are gonna be growing, I think, over time, over the next six months or so. Okay. And then goal number five, prepare for citywide arts master plan process.

46:01 – 46:14Speaker 2

Commissioner Pontius and I have met. And, also, I think commissioner Garg, he wanted to join the subcommittee. So can we add both those names to the subcommittee in the work plans?

46:16Speaker 5

master plan.

46:22Speaker 2

mister Pontius and I have met with Damon. Yes. And we have a little bit of a homework assignment.

46:38 – 47:38Speaker 2

To read other cities, arts master plans, and kind of highlight or extract the things that we think would be particularly desirable for Santa Clara. And then that probably that effort or the actual hard semester plan effort by Damon probably won't start till January or so. So we're still working on our homework. But I think, you know, the point is that we're probably gonna go through an entire year next year where we're doing resident outreach and surveys and drafts, and I would guess that it would probably not be finalized until 2027. So slow progress, but I still hope to see it in place before I turn out.

47:45Speaker 2

Okay. And that is the end of. Yes?

47:53Speaker 5

can say it was pretty clear meeting with Damon that we are not driving the bus. He is or or so

48:03Speaker 4

Yeah. Provide input. We

48:04Speaker 2

can provide the input. Yeah. That's true.

48:07Speaker 5

But they have their schedule. They're gonna hire a consultant. They're gonna Yeah.

48:18Speaker 1

Yeah. It's city. Gaurav should go up here.

48:29Speaker 7

Do you want both on both names on the other one? No. One. One of them. Yeah. Only on that one.

48:45 – 48:56Speaker 2

Okay. So we still do not have additional ideas. Do we want to entertain a motion to excuse?

48:56 – 49:10Speaker 4

I make a motion to. K. Right.

49:20Speaker 2

Any public comments on general business mission or controls? No members of the public? No. K. Staff report.

49:32 – 50:08Speaker 1

Okay. So we had a pretty spectacular Halloween celebration. Mhmm. Lots of events. So started off at well, Diwali, not Halloween, but Diwali, it was a busy week of events, with the Diwali event on the twenty third, of October at Live Oak Park, and then, the twenty fourth was, a Dia de los Muertos event at, the cemetery and some, cultural education activities and food vendors and then the showing of Coco.

50:08 – 50:38Speaker 1

And there is, a community altar set up there through the November 7, and so there's still time to put up a photo, their envelope on if you want to commemorate them that way and have it on display throughout the time, throughout the next week or so. And then we had our Spook to Clara event, Children's Halloween Party on the twenty fifth. It was busy. It was busy. About 7,000 people, in attendance.

50:38 – 51:05Speaker 1

A lot of candy. A lot of candy. Over 500 pounds of candy was given out. And it went from the library all the way to the ball field on that side of the park. And so it's quite quite busy, quite fun. We had over 65 youth volunteers participate, and so we were really excited to have that many youth leaders helping support the event. And

51:05 – 51:35Speaker 1

that was great. And then, you know, got the commission through the Halloween home decorating contest, a couple little bumps here and there, but we got through it. So it was exciting to show see, residents get their on signs and and, see that go up on social media. So that was exciting. And then Robin's team has Willy Wonka opening this weekend. Say anything about Willy Wonka?

51:37Speaker 7

We have 58 participants, eight to 18. And

51:40Speaker 2

In the in the in our. Yeah. And

51:45Speaker 7

so we, yeah, we open this Friday. We have dress rehearsals all this week. Dress rehearsal we had last weekend.

51:53Speaker 3

Yep. We got two weekends.

51:55Speaker 1

This weekend and next weekend. So I'll come and see a cute show. It's a great jjt.org. Org. Great set and fun music.

52:04 – 52:47Speaker 1

It's a good show, so super cute. And then we are marching towards tree lighting, which is the fifth. And the culture or the park and rec commissioners named Wanda Buck as the tree lighter. If you know Wanda Buck, she was a senior advisory commissioner for eight years, and he and the city becoming an age friendly city. It's been a long term resident here and very strong advocate with the women's Santa Clara Women's League that puts on Showtime and pretty active in the real estate environment also in Santa Clara.

52:47Speaker 1

So been a huge advocate for the department for many, many years. So she'll be the later this year.

52:55 – 53:20Speaker 2

And the cultural commission is commissioners were invited to attend Mhmm. But we don't have a role to play. Right? I know. Of course. One year, we had a room in the CRC where we had Turpentine. Turpentine, we had those frames that people could get their pictures taken of their face poking through, things like that. So is there ever gonna be an opportunity to do something like that? If you

53:20Speaker 1

wanna do something, you're welcome to do something. Yeah. Just let me know.

53:23Speaker 2

If you just want a booth or something at some point. Okay. Mhmm. Might be fun. Maybe not this year.

53:28Speaker 3

Mhmm. Next year.

53:31Speaker 4

what we got. Okay.

53:33 – 54:01Speaker 2

So and I went to the. Commissioner made a lot of great contacts, I think, heard from several other of the cities. We do have commissioners. Morgan Hale has a library arts and culture commission altogether. Super interesting.

54:02 – 54:35Speaker 2

Los Gatos, Cupertino, Sunnyvale, San Jose, Mountain View were also there. Yeah. San Jose, the city department that is the office arts and culture gave a little presentation. They have a lot of public art that is funded by their TOT income, which they distribute to arts groups via various brands. See.

54:37 – 55:19Speaker 2

I I took some notes on what each city was doing, but and we got some art commission documents of various charters that other cities have, and they're seem to all be called something different. Okay. But it's good just to kinda see where we line up with what other cities are doing. They said that they're gonna be doing them quarterly, so I think it would be a great opportunity for other people to go to the next one and just strengthen our relationship with SV Creates since they give out money as well. Do either of you have any feedback about the attendance your attendance or what you learned or who you met?

55:19 – 55:34Speaker 6

Yeah. I met with many other company in city. So mostly Sunnyvale was very near, so I I was able to talk to them Mhmm. What they're doing. Mhmm. So maybe we can collaborate and learn from them. And from other San Jose also, there are a lot of presence from San Jose team.

55:35Speaker 6

It was good informative.

55:37 – 55:48Speaker 2

Yeah. Yeah. I think just the more we learn what other cities are doing, the more we can get creative with what we're doing at home. How about you? You too.

55:50 – 56:23Speaker 2

K. Let's see. Oh, I also went to the Code Art Festival in Palo Alto, which was a light art event where they had projections of digital art on against the backdrop of city hall, and they had this map of events that they have. We could just pass that around. Got some great events for possibly what we can do at some of these night markets or just to it it doesn't need to be super expensive to do something that's very impactful.

56:25 – 56:50Speaker 2

And what else? Oh, I did want to mention that in December, our next cultural commission meeting is December 8, and I would like to ask to be excused from that because that is the week of Santa Clara Concerts and my whole week will

56:50Speaker 1

be dress rehearsals. Actually, the first.

56:53Speaker 2

Oh, it's the first?

56:54Speaker 7

Yes. Don't Did

56:55Speaker 1

you see it somewhere on the eighth?

56:57Speaker 2

I I know. I was just looking at the calendar along.

57:00Speaker 1

I did that too when I put the calendar together. Well,

57:03Speaker 2

then never mind. I could be here on the first. Yeah. I was thinking the eighth. There's no I was

57:08Speaker 1

like, maybe I missed one of the edits.

57:09Speaker 3

But I'll just think you maybe I did this thing more.

57:11 – 57:52Speaker 2

Okay. Well, let me roll it back a little bit. Yeah. I invite you all to the Santa Clara concert. There's going to be one at the Mission Santa Clara University on Friday Friday night. I think it is Friday night, December twelfth, and Sunday afternoon, December 12. Any other commissioners have anything they'd like to share about travels or museums or shows or anything that you've been doing that's cultured?

57:57Speaker 5

Yes? The Oak Lawn Residence Association is doing their I think they're the ones that sponsored the, historic home tour.

58:09Speaker 5

be on the, fifth and the sixth, and then Santa will be at the Harris Moss Museum on the seventh.

58:18Speaker 5

So the fifth and the sixth are are the home tours. You have to buy a ticket,

58:24Speaker 4

and you can go to the tour. K. There

58:29Speaker 5

might be a guitar player at the museum.

58:32Speaker 4

Oh, do you hear him? But the sports store

58:41 – 58:58Speaker 3

Last time, it it didn't send the calendar, and I asked, so they have sent from this month. So I don't know whether there was a meeting or there wasn't because I didn't receive anything for the month of

59:00Speaker 1

Okay. Too much. K.

59:06 – 59:17Speaker 2

Okay. If nobody has anything else, maybe it has now come to an end. I'm back. I would like to entertain a motion signature and a meeting.

59:22Speaker 4

Shooter. Okay.

59:28 – 59:54Speaker 2

Commissioner Garth. Aye. Aye. Hi, Mara. Aye. No. Thank you so much. Our oh, here it is, Kim. Our next culture mission meeting will be on this December 1 at 7PM. Thank you very much.
