Welcome to On the Agenda, where we highlight the activities of City of Salena boards and commissions. I'm your host, David Hawksworth. The city commission met on April 27th. Here's a recap of the actions taken at the meeting. Commissioners discussed the property casualty insurance state of the marketplace in their study session. The city is expecting a 10 to 15% increase in insurance premiums when policies renew on July 1st. At the regular meeting, the city commission approved a resolution and ordinance levying special assessments for 2026. After approving the consent agenda, commissioners approved financing the construction of the new fire station number four by financing $5 million of the $9.1 million cost, approved a development agreement for improvements to the Sunset Park War Memorial, and rejected all bids for the landfill scales project, and directed staff to revise the project scope and rebid the project. In development business, commissioners approved an ordinance reszoning the old fire station number four on Brier Cliff Road for reuse as the city's facilities maintenance operations building, approved resoning of the 9 South edition on South 9th Street, north of Sam's Club, and approved an ordinance revising a planned development district to allow construction of an office building on East Crawford Street, east of Crawford Place. The next city commission meeting will take place on Monday, May 11th, at 4 p.m. in room 107 of the City County Building. The meeting agenda will be available on Friday, May 8th, on the city's website, salina-ks.gov. Here's the city board and commission update. The board of zoning appeals met on April 16th and approved a variance to allow a new home to be constructed in the floodway at 18/19 North Fifth Street.
