City Commission - Regular Meeting

Welcome to On the Agenda, where we highlight the activities of City of Salina Boards and Commissions. I'm your host, David Hawksworth. The City Commission meets on Monday, July 27th. Here's a rundown of what's on the agenda. At that regular 4 p.m. meeting, commissioners will consider acceptance of the resignation of Commissioner Jerry Ivey, elect a new vice mayor, and determine the process for filling the vacancy on the City Commission. The vacancy must be filled within 60 days. The City Commission will hold a public hearing on vacating portions of Decatur Street and Chester Avenue, and will hold a public hearing on vacating two utility easements on the K-State Salina Campus. Also on the agenda, approval of a change order for maintenance to the water tower on Centennial Road south of Schilling Road, and granting of easements to property owners where their way in and out is affected by the levy. The city commission will also consider whether to direct city staff to develop and advertise a request for proposal for the operation of the animal shelter. In development business, commissioners will consider a resolution of support for Kansas investor tax credits for the next phase of the Aeroplanes Edition. The consent agenda includes appointment of members to the Saline County Community Corrections Advisory Board, approval for the 2026 Federal Funds Exchange, acceptance of the 2026 Emergency Solutions Grant, and approval of eligibility for the Healthy Kansas Multimodal Transportation and Recreational Trails Package Grant. An executive session is scheduled to discuss the possible acquisition of real estate. Possible action may follow. Here's the City Board and Commission update. The Building Advisory Board met on July 14 and recommended the City Commission approve an ordinance allowing smoke testing of drainage and venting systems in plumbing installations. The Planning Commission met on July 21 and approved a zoning change to land on the south side of West Diamond Drive. They also approved a preliminary plat of the Auburndale District Edition on the east side of South 9th Street north of Avenue A for future commercial development. City Board and Commission meetings scheduled through August 7th include the Planning Commission, Tuesday, August 4th at 4 p.m., the Heritage Commission, Wednesday, August 5th at 4 p.m., and the Accessibility Advisory Board, Thursday, August 6th at 3 p.m. All meetings take place in Room 107 of the City-County Building, unless otherwise noted, and the meeting agendas will be available on the City's website, salina-ks.gov.
