Common Council - Regular Meeting

Okay, it is 5:00, please. We will call the um called meeting of the common council to order here this afternoon. 5:00, December 22nd um for reorganizational purposes. Uh Sally, do we have an agenda? Thank you. Okay. Um we will start with um our roll call, please. Dan Libkkey, District 1. Dylan Moore, District 2. Justin Green, mayor. Sally Hatabo, city clerk treasurer. Randy Lee, District 4. Roger Pennington at large.

Okay, we have four of five. Our attorney is absent, as well as Diana Armstrong. Guys, council, we have uh three items of business. um two being uh the new business for the reorganization. Uh the first it is twofaceted. We need uh to do a common council president. Uh that is something that does have an expiration on just the uh timing. So one year to the next. Um otherwise um I'll defer. We have current council president Moore. Please I'll let you u make that comment. just like to say thank you guys for appointing me last year. Um, if you'd be inclined, I'd love to serve again as your president this year, but for this coming year, but totally understand if you guys want to elect somebody else.

I would make a motion I'd like to nominate or make a motion for Councilman Lit for the council president for 2026 or 20. Yeah, 26. Yeah. Okay. There is one motion uh for the slate. Is there by chance any other motions? The nomination to nominate. Sorry, my language. To nominate is that something we usually do. Switch. Randy. Goodness. It is the council's prerogative. Uh nothing says you have to. Uh there is there is certainly uh value in uh keeping what you got or there's value in uh rotating uh Indiana code let you do either.

Okay. long winded way of getting that through that process. Please, your meeting days and times. Council, you currently have a second Monday uh on the calendar. That can change. You also have a 5:00. No, no, no. 5:30. I'm getting my my boards backwards. You have a 5:30 time. Again, Indiana code allows you to u change retain any combination thereof. I make a motion to keep same date and time for 26. Okay, there's a motion

Uh next, Sally uh has got a couple of claim vouchers. Again, uh this is uh appropriate since we already had the called meeting advertised. There are a couple of items that uh can be paid yet out of the 25year budget. Uh so let's go ahead and do that uh and make those APVS current and get those checks cut. Sally has the uh separate uh docket there. She passed out for you. Uh anything you want to add to those, Sally?

Well, besides that, I also have included a um transfer ordinance that just came to light today. U it's a normal housekeeping thing. So um we just need approval on that ordinance also. Okay. So, let's let's do one at a time if we can, please. If council, let's let's do the accounts payable voucher first. I'll make a motion to approve the accounts payable voucher. Uh the business tonight is the reorganizational meeting for our next year of business. Um, as we just heard in the common council meeting board, there was a motion and a second uh to retain the same date and time. Uh, it has been protocol here at the city of Salem. Uh, does not mean it has to stay protocol to leave the evening with the border works meeting uh before the common council. Uh, but if you so desire to leave it as such, you are now meeting at five o'clock on the second Monday. So, that would be our first item of business. Uh, with me stepping ahead and getting for roll call, please make sure we're all here in attendance.

So, we are all here u present and accounted for. Um, so you did hear my um introduction of what we need to do tonight. Any thoughts, comments? What would you like to do? It doesn't matter to me. Danny's the one still working. So I would say whatever work him with Mr. Jones being in favor of that. I will make a motion to accept that date and time to continue. Continue.
