Youth Commission - Regular Meeting

all right today is september the 16th and it is now 4 15 p.m do i have a motion to begin this meeting i motion do you have a second i second that all in favor say aye aye aye Any opposed? All right, great. So this is the last formal Youth Commission meeting of the year that will necessarily occur. And we will begin by just reviewing the agenda, which is comprised of approving last meeting's minutes, the chair of court, the staff liaison and council liaison reports, and voting and reviewing and voting the annual report. Ultimately, we'll review this term and discuss any last matters, and after that, we'll adjourn. All right.

Any opposed? All right, great. So now I will present my report. Laila and I worked on the annual report and the presentation this summer. And we're very glad that now we get a chance to vote on it. But other than that, I don't believe there is anything else I have to report.

All right. Jordan, Melinda, do you have something to add?

Yeah, I can add something. Summer camp season has concluded right before school season was supposed to start. We had a great summer. Kids had a lot of fun. We are now in our fall season, so we have a lot of fall classes, sports leagues, fall programming, and some fall events that we have coming up. We also have Julius West's Fall Festival. I'm scheduled for give me one second. Sorry, I don't have that on me on October 1st. I'm at Julius West Middle School. So, if you guys would like to attend that with us, it's highly encouraged because it's a way for you guys to network with the kids in middle school from the city of Rockville. I will also be sharing with you guys some events that Robert Frost, Wootman, Rich Montgomery, and Rockville High School may have along with Wood Middle School. So, keep looking out for that once we get invited from the schools on attending. That's it for me. Melinda, do you have anything?

I was just going to say if anybody needs SSL hours at the Nature Center, we could use volunteers for our Halloween event, which was on October 17th. So reach out to me if you are looking for some SSL hours that we have with you.

Great. um and i don't believe that our council liaison is here so we'll table that but now is everybody able to it was everybody able to view and read the animal report does anybody have any suggestions or edits they would like to make

So with that, the 2025 to 2026 report for the Youth Commission is now approved and will be sent on to the Mayor and Council. With regard to reviewing this year's term, correct me if I mistake any of this, but This is the last formal meeting, but if you all are willing to stay on until the next term members are fully confirmed, then we can have another meeting in October. But as of now, we don't have anything set yet. And the mayor and council are still working. Sorry.

The Mayor and Council are still working on approving and reviewing the applications and scheduling interviews for the next term members. So please stay tuned for that. Do we know approximately by when we'll hear back?

Unfortunately, we do not be a, we are working closely with the city clerk's office to speed that process along. Once we have more information from them, or when this, when that process will be started and slash completed, I will let you guys know and just to add in terms of the extension of your current terms. Veronica will be sending you guys if you guys are all willing to continue to serve. She'll be sending out some information, especially basically letting you know that your term has been extended. It will provide an expiration date. So that would be forthcoming soon. Not sure when, but it'll be definitely before your term expires. Most of you expire on October 1st, I think, believe 2 of you expire November 1st. So she may send it to those that expire in October 1st. Before those that expire on November 1st. But that is TBD and I'll keep you guys posted via email on that process.

Does anybody have any older new business they would like to discuss? No. Any school updates? Go ahead.

I actually want to bring up the town halls because I know we did the twin brick, but I'm not sure if we have to wait for the new council to be used commission to be admitted and start talking about that topic. But how would we go forward planning those two other town halls that we still have? Great question.

I believe that is something that will be covered by the 2nd term.

But, um, as of now, we don't currently have any plans for. Ideas and how we proceed.

Just to add to that. So, since you guys, since your terms will be extended. You guys will be basically reappointed to continue serving up until a certain point. So, even though you may only have 6 individuals that are currently on the commission, you guys can still continue to do your business. As long as you have all 6 of you attend every public meeting. So you can still continue to plan those events. And then whenever they, whenever we finalize the appointments for those for the positions that we have vacant, they'll have to jump right in and start where we, where we left off.

Yep, so I think right now our next meeting is scheduled for. October 14th. So, we have meetings every 2nd, Wednesday of the month, so we'll communicate with you guys to make sure that you're all able to attend. But if 1 individual is not able to attend, then we'll need to cancel or reschedule.

If my understanding is correct that next meeting is going to be with the new commission members. Correct.

That is the goal can't promise anything.

So it may just be us.
