City Council - Regular Meeting

Reno City Council met on Monday, March 2nd, 2026. The 9:00 a.m. meeting began with council approving several closed meeting requests. One person discussed school funding during the public comment period. The legislative meeting followed which included updates from the city's state and federal consultants on Rono's priorities during this legislative session. City manager Val Marie Turner and finance department staff presented the proposed FY27 budget, which does not include real estate or personal property tax rate increases. They shared that by cutting non-priority spending, they were able to bring down the city's projected $18.9 million deficit to $5.1 million. Such cuts included the Belmont Library expansion and fire station 2, with other cuts and adjustments expected before the recommended budget is presented on Monday, March 23rd, 2026. Community meetings will be held on April 9th at the Williamson Road Library and on April 16th at the South Reno United Methodist Church. The morning session ended with a briefing on council strategic priorities. There's still time to apply for the two upcoming vacancies on the Reno City School Board. Applications are due March 10th. City Council recognized March as American Red Cross month. One resident spoke during public comment on the proposed amendment to the deed for the Fishburn Caretakers Cottage. 211 Virginia and the Council of Community Services were recognized and provided an update on the services they provide to our community. Council honored prominent women in Rono during the proclamation for women's history month. Then the deputy director of finance presented the January budget report. Council passed several action items. The regional hazard mitigation plan appropriating funds from last year's USA cycling

events for trails and greenway maintenance and funds from operation ceasefire for the police department as well as modifying the deed for the Fishburn Park Caretakers cottage. City Manager Turner shared that the storm water team is working on two drainage improvement projects downtown. She also announced a ribbon cutting for the Wina skate park and pump track will be on Friday, March 13th. Council passed a budget ordinance appropriating state, federal, and grant funds to the Ronach City School Board. The meeting ended with council approving nominees to boards and commissions.
