City Council - Regular Meeting

Welcome back to Pasco City Council In Focus. I'm Communications Coordinator Alyssa Warner, and this is a look at what's on the agenda for the August 10th City Council Workshop Meeting. Housing is going to be a big topic this week. Pasco gets to keep some of the money from state sales and use taxes if we have a plan to put it towards affordable housing programs, including rental assistance for people making less than 60% of the area median income. Right now, that would be people making about $51,000 or less per year. City Council will take a look at the City of Pasco Affordable Housing Policies and Procedures Manual, which is intended to make sure that we're using that money fairly. We'll also hear about the Tri-Cities Home Consortium Citizen Participation Plan. The Home Consortium is made up of Pasco, Richland, and Kennewick. It's designed to make sure that federal money for affordable housing assistance is used in the most productive way possible. And the Citizen Participation Plan is designed to make sure that everyone who needs help knows how to get it. City Council will consider creating a new no parking zone on North 27th Avenue, south of Sylvester Street. This is a narrow part of the road, and there's not a lot of space for street parking in between businesses, so creating a no parking zone could help keep traffic flowing safely. And we can expect a presentation about security for Pasco Park bathrooms. This is an update from earlier this year when City Council asked for a closer look at options to improve security. We have to create a balance here between protecting people's privacy as they enjoy our parks and keeping visitors from vandalizing or misusing bathrooms. We'll hear some of the options available and how much each change would cost. Because this is a workshop meeting, you'll have the chance to comment on any of the items listed on the agenda.
