“Thank you, Mr. Mayor. As my colleagues have mentioned here tonight, Councilmember Ferris was a staple in this city. Her and I got along, and even though we might not agree on a few things, we got along fairly well. Civility on this council was very strong. She understood that. Having conversations, having difficult conversations, even when You don't agree. And understanding how to get from point A to point B, even when things were tough and discussions were hard, she understands civility. She also thought she understood jokes. And some got them, some didn't. And she knew that. But the biggest…”

“Darn it, Deputy Mayor Johnson, you threw a curveball. And I'm trying to think about that as I give my thoughts and remarks on this. That was very interesting. I kind of like it, but I think that Gosh, why did I have to go after you? I had to think about that one. But obviously, the biggest thing I think about tonight is obviously the mitigation of the drop-off and pickup. The solution is firm communication by moving the pickup to the north and northeast. And just add some more time to think about Councilmember Kastema's proposal and amendment. Councilmember Johnson does have some valid…”

“I will shortly after my question to my colleagues. as it was noted, the $375,000 that the school district would be paying, quote unquote, for the vacation of 7th Street, only to then utilize those funds to coordinate construction of said curb and gutter and bulb outs and reconstruction of 8th Street and using a portion of those funds for that construction. The city essentially is giving the farm away. I just want to make sure the council is all on board with that and I don't believe that was ever really discussed in the initial discussions of that. I for one I'm not sure if I'm okay with…”

“Thank you. The reason I bring that up is simply because we don't trade similar favors, if you will, to other builders in our community. We don't do that for mitigating traffic impact fees or anything like that in such a way to trade that out. And so my question is, why are we allowing that with the school district respectfully? That's the only question I have. And I'm just looking for some answers regarding that. So I'm not saying I'm for it. I'm not saying I'm against it. I'm just wanting to kind of get some clarity as to why we are doing it for the school district and where we don't allow…”

“Sorry about that. I just want to thank everyone on the council for allowing that conversation to exist regarding the $375. And I appreciate everyone that came out tonight. And hopefully I'm doing everyone a favor by saying I call the question.”

“Thank you very much. again you are a very important team member to the city of puyallup and i just want to acknowledge you for that and all the professional tidbits that you have along the way because every every instance that you have updated us regarding anything regarding our emergency preparedness plan i think i can probably I won't speak on behalf of the council, but I'm going to. “Thank you, Mr. Mayor. You know, I like the discussion that we've had here. It's a collaborative effort regarding this situation and this topic, and it seems like a lot of the members have come together in regards to the specific process that we have currently. It seems to be deemed okay, and I appreciate Councilmember Kastema's comments regarding the state that the state has ultimate discretion, I think that should roll over to the city as well. I also think that what you proposed here with the criteria can also help kind of be a pathway of understanding for those that want to nominate…”

“Yeah, I was just going to reiterate again. I don't think any modification needs to be made to the current procedures or any resolutions need to be written. But you are the mayor, and you have that discretion.”

“Thank you. I do echo everything that Councilmember Kastema has said about Councilmember Ferris and her service on Council for the eight years that she was here, and I was honored to be able to serve with her for two of those years. I believe it was two? Yes, it was two. But You know, like Councilmember Kastema said, you know, she was either with you or against you. And you never really knew. But at the same time, you know, she was very witty. She was very fun, if you will. She had jokes on the dais that I will say and admittedly so that most of us didn't get. But she knew that. And she had…”

“Thank you. City Clerk, your office has earned a lot of respect from the fact that you just said they watch our council meetings four times through in the past. I wasn't aware of that myself. And so the fact that you were able to streamline that, I think, brings a lot of joy to your department for sure. So hopefully that's working out well for you. A couple of questions. And you may have touched on it, and I may have missed it. So I'm just asking, how long would it take, do you think, to digitize the entire vault? What's your estimated timeline?”

“Thank you Mr. Mayor. Last week the city celebrated our 136th year as an incorporated city on August 19th and so for those of you that weren't aware of that, 136 years in the bank and I think we're doing quite well. The Washington State Fair is just right around the corner, and they'll be celebrating 101 years. So make sure you go and visit the Washington State Fair this year. It's going to be a hoot. And let's see, what else do I have? Seeing the city clerk's presentation tonight, business applications are up 68% in the city. Is that correct?”

“That's amazing. That's amazing. People want to do business in Puyallup and Puyallup is open for business. So thank you for that. Puyallup One, as mentioned, tomorrow night and concerts in the park featuring a band called Heart by Heart that has a couple members of the original heart band playing. a little correlation with that. They first became big at this place that had wheels on their feet in Puyallup back in the 70s. Some people might know it. That's not there anymore, unfortunately. But that's where they got their first big gig, and they made it. And so it'll be good to see those folks…”

“Mr. Mayor Yeah, as we come up on the next meeting for this topic on the 15th. I would definitely like to see if there was or can be a brought forward a new or current traffic study over the past year obviously we won't be able to do that into the new school year but over this past year that'd be great if there is anything there also just a quick notable that have there been any incidents in the second block since the first block vacation has occurred over the last school year and I would also like to see what that future growth looks like on both east west north south wherever you can squeeze…”

“Mr. Mayor Yes, you and I had spoken about this a little bit in depth during our time on the briefing portion of this before council and I'm one of the things that comes to mind is these funds cannot be pulled back from the state if this program were to end. Is that correct?”
