They are approved. Okay, we have some orders of unfinished business. It says here we have to discuss the possible action regarding family promises report update from the 24-25 cycle. Do you guys want to tell us a little bit more about that?

Yeah, so they provided their updates because their certificate of occupancy wasn't available yet, so they didn't have any residents move in or families. So once they did, they were able to put the item that they had. I believe it was a stoke. and the unit and now they're being able to use it so they did provide that little updates beforehand and then they provided a few stats as well towards the end of how many families have already used it since they put that to use okay that's nice to hear so the report is on the board if anybody wants to review it nope was good and nothing needs a

The second update is a possible action regarding the United Way of South Sarasota County six and 12 month impact report for 25-26 and their third funding cycle. That update is also on the board.

So they didn't submit their six months for last meeting that we had. So they provided their six months, and then they provided their 12 months that was due for this meeting as well. So they're just together. OK. So they're updating us. They're up to date. Good for them.

That was fine. OK. Last discussion item is possible action regarding Northport High School Orchestra and the percussion parent association six and twelve month impact report for 23-24 funding cycle.

So that was the first funding cycle that we had and by the guidance of the committee I went ahead and pursued the individuals that you guys suggested. I was able to get a hold of the principal and he provided these items and They are putting their MacBook to use.

The only one that did not, the only agency that is not able to provide us any six months or 12 months was the Youth Musical. I've tried, but they also, they're no longer an agency. Yeah, they decided to dissolve. So we won't be able to collect that.

Sadly. okay so now we are going to review 2026 27 new folks ladies can you just kind of give us a recap so that those that are new understand what we're looking at and then um jonah and i can maybe add

Okay, so the purpose of the MP Square program is to allow, as you all know, our local nonprofits to apply for a mission support item. That mission support item, to meet the criteria, should be an item that is enhancing the nonprofit's mission. So I always often give the example of a food pantry might need a pallet jack or a refrigerator or a freezer, an item that's going to continue providing services for the citizens that they serve. So we want to make sure that the items that you all approve are items that are not giveaways or that is not used as like marketing tools, unless it's like a marketing software that they're going to continue using. So look at those things when you are identifying the items that are eligible. Specifically, one of the main criteria is obviously is to make sure that we're serving our Northport community. Our focus is Northport. They have to be serving North Port citizens and residents. So that should be your other focus. This is our first year that the funding has been decreased. So we're looking at $10,000. Is that correct? $10,000. So that is going to significantly decrease the agencies that we've helped in the past. So our suggestion is to review the applications as a whole first before you determine per agency the amount. because you're not gonna be able to serve all the agencies or not serve in the full capacity as before of a $2,000 per item maximum. Does that make sense? So I would suggest going through the applications, reviewing the agency, the application, I mean the agency, the item, the goal of the item before you decide and then maybe go back and determine the amount and the item that you want to approve.

And we can give less then?

You can.

Even if it mandatory 2k okay and so let's just say a stove is $600 and we can offer them 300 is that still allowable if we can't buy the whole product the whole item you can you can give them less and then the agency would have to come up with the other amount

But in that regard, I would suggest that maybe that item, if it's something like that, that it's just one item that they're asking for, I would suggest to give them the full item. And take less from? From someone else that's maybe asking for multiple items. Got it. Because there are a few applicants that have asked for multiple little items. So maybe that might be something easier for you all to look at and decide. Okay. But of course, at your discretion, whatever you want to do. If you tell us 300, then it's 300.

Okay, so my suggestion is that we go through 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 of these. If we want to grant them money, but we have to hold off till the end, we'll at least approve that, that we are thinking about money, or at least, and then if somebody just is totally void of maybe making the cut, or it's not something that we see meets the criteria, we can make a decision right then and there, so we don't have to revisit them. Does that make sense to everybody? Yes.

Jim, do you have any recommendations as somebody who's done this before? Well, I went through and really been studying these because of the 10,000, okay? I have a system where we can use most of it. The teen court, unfortunately, is out because they just got their and I like what they were up for, but on the other hand, they're out because of the fact of the cycle, okay? All right, but they'll be back, okay? But anyway, in putting these together, what I really try to focus in is what is really Northport, what is dealing with Northport, and what is close to Northport. And actually, I come up with, well, I'll tell you that later, but I can come up with actually helping most of them.

I believe there's two on here that are not eligible. And that would be pregnancy solutions, I believe. Their item is ineligible. And I believe staff reached out to them for them to reconsider a different item, and we did not hear back from them. Until after the due date. So we do try when... The only time that we are unable to really make a change is when they apply at the end of the due date of when they're supposed to apply. Then there's not much we can do with our deadlines. But if they apply early on in the cycle, we can reach out to them and say, hey, this item isn't an eligible item. Is there another item you'd like to consider? And then take it from there. So pregnancy solutions and who was the other one? Teen Court because it's too soon.

Yeah, next time. So what about Tidewell and Youth Development? They're not even in Northport.

But I do believe Youth Development is the T that I've researched this morning. Yes. They do serve Northport, and they partner with our Parks and Rec Department.

And Tidewell, it does also. And Tidewell does serve. They are actually a tenant in our Family Service Center. Okay.

So they do serve Northport.

So let's take a vote on those two organizations that were just discussed, Teen Court and Pregnancy Solutions. I'm looking for somebody to make a motion that we would already vote on them to be separated from our decision-making today.

Okay, I'll make a motion that Teen Court and Pregnancy Solutions are not eligible for this cycle. I'll second that.

All those in favor? Aye. Excellent. So we will remove them from our discussion for the remainder of the funding. So we'll start with Family Promise.

Okay. Yes. Family Promise submitted for $500 for outdoor play items. And that's a combination of different items. So that's one of the agencies that we were talking about that doesn't have to be everything on their list. So it depends. I think Keith had mentioned something about seeing about chalk and stuff like that. you guys can determine to see if things are, if their items are tangible or not. Okay? Do we have that application?

Yeah. Can you, Erin, can you bring it up where it says please describe the item needed? It gives the detail there. Right there. So they're asking for a outdoor storage box and then a variety of age-appropriate outdoor toys, recreational equipment, and then it includes, that's where Keith had read the chalk, it'll include toys, jump ropes, sidewalk chalk, bubbles, lawn games, two outdoor umbrellas to fit the already already own picnic tables. So those items are going to be at their center. They're not items that they're giving away. So they would be reusable items.

And also I researched them on Google and that and it turns out that before like I think it was 2019 most of their clients came from the Venice area in that and since then it seems like a lot of the clients are from the Northport area. Yeah, so they really are coming down more into Northport than they were.

And Family Promise applied for the grant cycle in what year?

The first and second, but they got approved for the second. And that's the update that we had that they had just provided for the appliance. So there's been two years between. That was 2020. 2024 to 2025 they had received the item and so they just updated us with their six and twelve months So are they also exempt from this then because no funding cycle no, okay?

I just make it actually okay They were just behind on their reporting from their first funding cycle that they applied for for documentation.

They applied during 23 to 24 24 25 24 20 Okay, great. Next slide. Any questions about them before we move on? Okay.

I have a question. Yes. Some of those items, like the chalk and the bubbles, those are consumable, but that's okay. I mean, because they're not going to last.

Yeah, well, the same thing would happen to a refrigerator. It's not going to last forever. After they use it for a few years, you're going to have to replace it. Those are items that I consider that they are going to use them, but they're going to be kept there on site. They're not consumables where they'll take off with them and take them to their home.

They're not giving them away.

They're not giving them away. They're using them. They're reusing them there. Okay. Same like a chair or, you know... I guess the umbrellas would be another item, too.

Okay, the next one, friends of Shannon's staff, public library. They are wanting a sensory wall with table and chairs. Picture, demo, deco, what did I write?

Yeah, Demco sensory wall. There's a picture on there, Erin, if you don't mind scrolling to it, because I had to go see what it was, too, because I'm like, what is that?

That and then table and chairs. And they went 2,000. 2,000.

But I see there that that item is actually 1,386, just so that everybody can see.

Have they applied for funding before? Yes, they received in the second funding cycle as well, and they received large print books, so 24-25, which are definitely being used.

And this year, too, and going through this, you know, as I say, I'm really kind of studying those things that are very close to home, and this is an area which is very much used, and the kids are there. I mean, I've seen them there. They are there. So, you know, it's something that will be used in Northport.

Next one is Northport Meals on Wheels, and they're asking for $2,000 for an AED installation, which I'm assuming it's the actual appliance, the refrigerator. Is that going to pay for the whole thing? What they provided, it said $1,999. It's a really good deal. Installation and training.

And it says, but you said this should be mission-driven. This is for the volunteers, obviously.

Correct, yes. And participants, if any, but I don't believe they have any of their participants come into where they're doing their meals, yeah.

Have they applied for funding before?

Yes. Yes, we gave them the electric can openers. And what year was that?

24-25. Second, honey.

Again, I will say that this is a different kind of thing, but you're dealing with older people working there, a lot of them. And I know once upon a time we did a lot with the ushers and that at churches and that's the same thing because we have actually had deaths of some of them. One at Trinity United Methodist. So these defibrillators are needed wherever we have those people. You know, they're doing great stuff.

So the way their mission continues is by the volunteerism of the individuals that go in there. Right. And they didn't have the volunteers to continue doing their mission.

Any questions on this one? And it's way more than just a meal. Yes. It's daily contact. Exactly.

Yeah, you know exactly. Maybe the only socialization. Okay.

Okay, we'll move on to Northport Senior Center. They're asking for $2,000 for an ice cream machine, puzzles, senior puzzles, shelves, and board games for seniors.

And here again, since they have been displaced from their home, think anything we can do to help them because taking away that senior citizen center was a huge blow as far as I'm concerned and you know they're making the best that they can of the Mullen Center and you know here they are I mean they're doing good stuff and it's Northport. How much is the ice cream maker?

It was 200 and something I believe I attached a copy to it down right there yeah 259.

Did they apply for funding before?

No this is our first year. And these are just random games that they just put down. It doesn't have to be exactly these games. So if you guys do end up approving them, you can approve a certain amount for games. It doesn't have to be these ones.

And they're going to need the shelving because they've got to make this place kind of like their own.

We're skipping pregnancy solutions in teen court due to the previous vote.

Now we're on to the Florida Center. They asked for $1,488.98. They're requesting three iPads, two table floor stands, and one mobile hotspot. I'm assuming it's to sign in when they drop off their kids.

But most of this would not be used in Northport.

It won't be in Northport.

It'll be in Sarasota, right?

The Florida Center? They're behind us. They're right in front of us.

Oh, okay. All right, they're in Northport then? Okay, then they would be used in Northport. Yeah. Okay.

They're actually by the senior center, the old senior center. Oh, that's right, that's right.

They are, yeah. Well, that's not the one I was thinking. You get to their, this is for their Northport. For the Northport one.

I don't believe that they did. They just said that they served North Port.

Yes, yes, they did. They said that their last fiscal year, their food pantry served 819 North Port households. Out of? It doesn't say out of.

Would you guys agree that that's a direct service to North Port?

Yes. We refer a lot to them.

And they have not applied for funding?

Well, let me correct that. They did apply, but they didn't have a tangible item last. They had applied for hurricane kits last year.

And we decided because they were giving those away, we didn't approve. Okay.

And tell me again, what's the 568 for? for the can organizers for their food pantry. And that's what they are right there. Tidewell. They are requesting $2,000 for vendor materials. So that's tablecloth, tent, literature rack, artwork display, folding, utility cart, Pop-up banner, table, top banners, folding tables, folding chairs, name tags, and therapeutic display.

What's their largest item and how much does it cost?

They didn't provide the cost of all of their items. They provided the things that they wanted.

Yeah. But not like right now, sorry.

It looks like their highest item would probably be their therapeutic activities, maybe, for 475. Erin, if you go to the detail of the item needed for them. And zoom in. There. Yes, thank you. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, yeah, I would say that the therapeutic one is the... Children's therapeutic.

And where are they located, just out of my own curiosity?

They're located, they have a satellite office in our building at the Family Service Center downstairs. They do a lot of networking with us. They come and do a lot of presentations for us. They partnered with us. The last program they partnered with us was for our supply squad in July. They came and they did the workshop for the families. They have excellent programs for grieving kids, for grieving families. I mean, every time, I'm going to be completely honest, every time they come and they speak, I learn something new. And I'm super impressed every time that they come in. They do a lot for our community. And they have not applied for funding before.

Yeah, the Blue Bloodifies happen around helping kids. I mean, I know that for sure. Yeah, it's sad, but unfortunately, it's very, very needed, and they're very much on top of it, and sadly, it's needed.

Now, the last one is the youth development through sport.

Yes, and they're asking for $1,690 for a portable golf game.

and that would be located up in Sarasota.

No, they are asking for $2,000. Well, they are up in Sarasota, and I had that question as well today. They were serving specifically Northport, and that's when I mentioned that they do work with our Parks and Rec Department, and so they are serving Northport. I don't believe I know exact numbers. If that question comes, I do not believe that I didn't see it in here. But I had to do some research, too, because I had never heard of them specifically for social services. So I reached out to our Parks and Rec department.

They're saying it's going to continue to strengthen the relationship with City of Northport to help grow the four-star development.

No, with four-star development. What does that mean? I believe that's their program.

But this game will, it is a game that will not be located here. It'll be located in Sarasota. Specifically what they want this for?

That I cannot answer. I do not know. I'm assuming that that game or program can be mobile and can be used whenever they do events or partnerships with us. Are they located in Sarasota? Yes. But they do serve North Forth.

It's a little bit of a reach, huh?

Yeah, yeah. Well, you know, if we had the $20,000, it would be, ah, we'll do it all and done, okay? You know? But since we don't, you know, what kind of thing we've got to do.

Okay, so the question then that could be an easy exemption is, does this agency directly serve the North Port community? Can you say that? Can you say that indirectly? indirectly yeah okay so the answer is no okay are you doing the youth development right now yeah okay so we'll leave that as a non-item okay should we vote on that before we move forward okay so I need a motion to I motion that we do not fund youth development through sports as they are not directly impacting Okay, so now we're going back to the list I Have now one two three four five six seven Organizations that are all eligible for funding and It looks like together, just briefly, two, four, six. And we could just make it if we leave out Salvation Army.

Because the ice cream machine is, like, max $800 to $300, which is the average on gold, gold back, or whatever. And then that's $300. They have $1,700 left, but they're going to spend $1,700 on puzzles.

But they wanted shelving too. I don't know.

I'll tell you what. Over there, they do, I will tell you, over at the senior center, they do do the puzzles a lot. I mean, at the old place, I mean,

What if we removed the $556 that's over from the Northport Senior Center and called it a day? Gave everybody their funding and then just reduced theirs from $2,000 to whatever's left. That's very good. We take your suggestion, considering that those are board donation items that I'm going to call them. And we would deduct the $2,000 by the $556, and that would even us out to $10,000, and we wouldn't have to.

So who, Shannon's side?

You have to look at our procurement process as well and the time that it takes for Erin to do all the purchasing for those individual items.

So it's not conducive for the end goal at all. So maybe I like the suggestion

So it's not going to be permanent. Or when I think of shelves, I think No, because they were trying to come up with an eligible item on the spot.
