Request from Newport Mesa Soccer Club (NMSC) dba Slammers FC-Newport Mesa for Temporary Lights at Bonita Canyon Sports Park (BCSP) Field #5

Staff recommends the Parks, Beaches and Recreation (PB&R) Commission approve the request from Newport Mesa Soccer Club (NMSC) dba Slammers FC-Newport Mesa to use temporary lights at Bonita Canyon Sports Park (BSCP) field #5 from September 21, 2026 to December 13, 2026 and February 1 to April 30, 2027, from dusk to 7:55 p.m.

Request from Pateadores Soccer Club for Weekend Light Usage at Bonita Creek Park Soccer/Football Field & Arroyo Park

Staff recommends the Parks, Beaches and Recreation (PB&R) Commission approve the request from Pateadores Soccer Club to use lights on the following weekend days from dusk to 7:30 p.m.: September 20, November 1 & 8, March 14 and May 9 at Bonita Creek Park Soccer/Football field and October 3, 4, 11, 18 & 25, November 15, March 21, April 11 & 18 and May 2 at Arroyo Park.

Fiscal Year 2026-27 Ad Hoc Committee/Liason Appointments

Staff recommends that the Parks, Beaches and Recreation (PB&R) Commission discuss, reaffirm, appoint or sunset the following FY 2025-26 Ad Hoc Committee Appointments where appropriate.

Permanent Placement of Newport Beach Arts Commission Sculpture at Civic Center Park

City staff recommend that the Parks, Beaches and Recreation (PB&R) Commission consider the Newport Beach City Arts Commission's recommendation to permanently place the sculpture, Chairman of the Board, in its current location at Civic Center Park.

Permanent Placement of Newport Beach Arts Commission Sculpture at Sunset View Park

City staff recommend that the Parks, Beaches and Recreation (PB&R) Commission consider the Newport Beach City Arts Commission's recommendation to permanently place the sculpture, Metalfor, near its previous location at Sunset View Park.

Reforestation Request - 1900 Highland Drive - Front 1

Staff recommends that Parks, Beaches, and Recreation (PB&R) Commission consider the reforestation request of a Jacaranda (Jacaranda mimosifolia) located at 1900 Highland Drive due to various public and private property damages. The applicant, Joyce Taur, residing at 1900 Highland Drive, has provided the required petition signatures to place this request onto the PB&R Commission Agenda to remove and replace one Jacaranda tree. If approved by the PB&R Commission, the applicant agrees to fund the removal of the tree and the planting of a replacement 36-inch box Newport Plum (Prunus cerasifera 'Newport'). Staff has determined that there is a suitable planting site, however; the applicant requests that the replacement tree be planted elsewhere in the City.

City Park Signage Ad Hoc Subcommittee Pilot Program Update

Staff recommends the Parks, Beaches and Recreation (PB&R) Commission review the updated park sign design recently installed at Mariners Park and, 1.) Determine it to be acceptable alternative and order further replacements of that style, and 2.) Sunset the Ad Hoc Subcommittee (Subcommittee).
