The marching band. The band is under the direction of Eric D. Hines, with percussion instruction by D.J. Gatch, dance line co-captains Haley Bell and Carly Carvana. The band is led onto the field by field commander Abby Christie. Tonight's show is titled American Dances. Each piece celebrates some of the musical cultures that have made the last 75th centennial of the United States so remarkable. Every selection in this show also has the art of dance, from the founding of the country all the way through the current millennium. The Titan March Band opens tonight's show with a 2014 hit recorded by American band Walk the Moon. Please shut up and dance.

Next, we will transport you back nearly a century to the age of swing and feature our dance line with a classic tune penned by Mark Howard and recorded by such luminaries as Kate Howard and Frank Sinatra. Take off with Blimey to the Moon.

The U.S. is a rich mosaic of many traditions. West Side Story, with music composed by Leonard Bernstein, highlights the immigrant experience and reimagines traditional songs and dances. Mambo, as you just heard, is a raucous celebration indeed. The Westminster College Titan Marching Band is open to all students on campus, regardless of major. Several current members are proud alumni of schools participating in the festival this evening. Thank you for dancing for American history with us this evening. Our show concludes with the work of prominent American composer Aaron Copland. His ballet, Appalachian Spring, is among the most recognizable in the American oeuvre. The familiar tune used throughout the larger work, Simple Pips, is borrowed from the shaker tradition which existed in the Middle Atlantic and New England states in the 18th and 19th centuries. This work celebrates yet another unique contributor to American culture. Please enjoy Appalachian Spring.

We want to thank the New Castle School District for allowing tonight's performance to be held here once again at Niagara Stadium. And a very special thank you goes out to all the Lawrence County Band Directors who have kept this festival going for the last 26 years.
