are no corrections to the journal.

1:57 – 2:27Speaker 1

There being no corrections, the minutes of these meetings stand approved. Alderwoman Samaripa moves that the committee of the common council resolve itself into the committee of the whole for the purpose of receiving a presentation, hearing no objection so ordered. Buenos dias all. Before we get started with our Hispanic Heritage Month program, I wanna take a moment of personal privilege. I will always be proud of having been chosen as the first Latino to serve as the Milwaukee Common Council president.

2:27 – 3:08Speaker 1

Honors like this, however, come with obligations. I want to remember those who have come before me and lift up our present and future Latino community. One that is a source of energy and passion that give all Milwaukeeans hope that our city is in good hands. Today, with Hispanic Heritage Month program, we honor changemakers who represent a small piece of our city's vibrant, thriving Hispanic community. And despite the small sample, I hope that you will see that the Hispanic community is present and visible in every corner of Milwaukee.

3:08Speaker 1

I will now ask alder person Jocasta Samaripa to come forward and get our program started.

3:24 – 3:40Speaker 7

you, mister president. Happy Hispanic Heritage Month, Milwaukee. Yep. I am alderperson Jocasta Samaripa, the first Hispanic woman, Latina to serve in the common council. And it's not easy to be the first one.

3:41 – 4:25Speaker 7

Just ask president Perez, who is the first Latino to ever serve as president of the Milwaukee Common Council, or ask alderwoman Caggs, who was the youngest woman ever elected to the council, and she was the only woman on the council for many, many years. Too many years. One is the loneliest number, just like the song says, but we do it because representation is paramount. Now more than ever, our people need to see us out here advocating for them and fighting for them. To today's honorees, thank you for accepting our invitation and for your own leadership in our city.

4:26 – 5:01Speaker 7

You deserve this recognition, and we are grateful to you. But I ask you too to join me and Jose and our colleagues and advocate for your fellow Latino. No matter their immigration status, we must stick together and support each other during these dark times in our political history. Today, we honor our culture by celebrating it. But if you allow me to strike a cord of seriousness, we also invigorate ourselves for the fight.

5:02 – 5:27Speaker 7

Thank you so much, mister president. We're about halfway through our business on the finance personnel and audit committee. Thank you to the colleagues who've come, and joined us and joined the conversation. Everyone's always invited. We'll be there today at 1PM.

41:23 – 42:08Speaker 4

Want to extend another and perhaps final special invitation to anyone listening, any colleagues here, and ask you please to amplify the invitation this Saturday at nine: 3zero am until 11PM at the Martin Luther King Library. We will be hosting a community listening session, one of our first in a while where we're really out in the community, the finance and personnel committee listening to all the voices on the 2026 city budget. So, please please stop by. Please amplify it in your networks as well as our budget survey that Alderman Peter Bergalis helped put together. We, as you can see, we are trying very hard to make sure we maximize community input in a budget that is very tight with some really tough decisions.

42:08Speaker 4

So, I welcome you to participate at all levels and looking forward to working with each and every one of you as we adopt to both socially and fiscally responsible budget. Thank you.

42:20Speaker 1

Chair recognizes Alderwoman Taylor. Thank

42:24 – 42:54Speaker 10

you so much, mister president. I just wanted to give a thanks and recognition to Deborah Moore, Rhonda Kahlheim, and Ashanti Horton. They made the pot of gold, which is a human trafficking awareness luncheon to help our children to keep our children from being exploited. Pot of Gold is for the girls, and so they were very instrumental in making that a great success. We had over a 100 girls in attendance.

42:54 – 43:54Speaker 10

They were very engaged in the conversation and the activities for the day, so I think they all left empowered. And so I just wanna say a thank you to them. Also, we have, because it's not just something that impacts our girls, but our boys, so we have what's called Kings Connect, which is the, male version of pot of gold, and that's on October 30 at Centennial Hall Library, again, from ten to one. In addition to that, just wanted to make sure that we make a couple other announcements, which is thank you to all my colleagues for allowing me to make November the Veterans Mental Health and Suicide Awareness Month. And so to commemorate that and to kick that off, we are doing veterans mental health and suicide awareness program on November 3, and that is going to be from ten to 12:00.

43:54 – 44:43Speaker 10

And so at that time, I think we'll be if anybody would like to come down and participate and do a 22 push up challenge, welcome to do that. So thank you for that, and I hope you guys can join us on November 3. And then lastly, 9th District Business Summit will be taking place again this year. This will be the third one at the Ross Innovative Employment Solutions Office from nine until two. Oh, and then in in conjunction with the Veterans Mental Health and Suicide Awareness Month, I just would like to just give a shout out to the Veterans Community Project, which we broke ground yesterday in the 9th District.

44:43 – 45:08Speaker 10

So that is a great prod project, a development that is coming to the 9th District to service veterans, giving them support supporting services regarding PTSD and any other services that they might need. And so we're really excited about that and that groundbreaking took place yesterday. So we have something to look forward to. Thank you.

47:45Speaker 2

Oh, okay. Well, I'm up

47:47 – 48:29Speaker 8

to 20, so I'll try to hit 22 by that date. But so in the Garden District, some spooky stuff is going on I'd like to tell folks about. So on tomorrow night, October 15 from five to 7PM will be the fifth annual Trunk or Treat event put on by the twenty seventh Street Business Association in collaboration with MPD District six. This will be taking place in the Wilson Park Senior Center parking lot at 2601 West Howard Avenue. Then on Sunday, October 26 from 05:30 or roughly dusk till 7PM will be the ghostly garden walk trick or treat.

48:29 – 48:44Speaker 8

That begins on sixth at Norwich and proceeds through the gates of hell. Or if you're little, it's a very fun time. So we will have the gardens decorated up. Bring your little ones, have some treats, and some fun. Thank you.

48:44Speaker 1

Thank you. Chair recognizes alderperson Samaripa.

48:49 – 49:34Speaker 7

Thank you, mister president. I too have some spooky season events to announce in the 8th Aldermanic District on Milwaukee's near South Side. 51:04 – 51:26Speaker 12

Yeah. Thank you so much, mister chair. A couple of different things here. As I believe a lot of my colleagues are aware and members of the public, but it's worth underlining, this coming Saturday from eleven to two at Cathedral Square, Milwaukee will be gathering to demand that we have no kings in this country. The no kings protest will be from eleven to two at Cathedral Square this Saturday.

51:27 – 51:57Speaker 12

After the budget hearing, I intend to, join that march and that protest. We are faced, in this country with the rise of fascism. I encourage all my colleagues in the public to stand up, and fight back. But speaking of spooky things going on, nothing is scarier than an out of control boss when you're a unionist. And I would also like to announce that on October 10, local the UAW Local ninety five members in Janesville reached a hundred days on strike.

51:57 – 52:14Speaker 12

The nurses in Janesville have been on strike since July, demanding better patient care, higher wages, and better working conditions. And I would announce strongly my support for that effort and present solidarity to those workers as well. Thank you.

So please be on the lookout for more information. We want a full, full, full youth council. And lastly, the brewers actually fall in my district, so I'm excited. For those that are watching the series, listen. You know, continue to give them good vibes, and we're gonna take it all the way. Go brewers.
