No, no, no. All right, there we go.

13:35 – 13:48Speaker 3

All right, so we are live. Okay, call to order. Miami-Dade Sport Hall of Fame Selection Committee meeting, June 17, 2026. Does someone want to call the roll?

13:49Speaker 4

I can call the roll. Marion?

13:58 – 14:10Speaker 4

Dave? Present. Roman? Present. Here. Jim here. And Andres here. And Marcos is missing.

14:12Speaker 2

Is somebody here for Marcos? Well, I know that he emailed saying that he's taking care of his father. Right.

14:17 – 14:28Speaker 4

Anybody here will tell you about him? No, because he, I think they leave at five and then he has to take over. So unless it was like a super important meeting, he would have missed this meeting.

14:31 – 15:55Speaker 2

And then I learned from the clerk's office that Holland is still on our roster sheet. After today's meeting, we will submit to the clerk's office and they will officially remove him from his seat. I don't know which council member he's attached to, but we'll figure that out once it's, you know, on their base, which, who knows. Kind of like I mentioned last time, um we have to try to yeah bring somebody on um unfortunately they're not well versed in who can necessarily do this uh committee because it is very niche you need to know the history of land-based you need to know sports you need to know you know kind of uh who was part of the miami lakes culture back in the day and stuff like that so You can't just pay anybody off the street to do this committee. So we will need recommendations. I spoke to Alvin Murray, who is the president of the soccer club, and he is interested in joining. So that might be coming down the pipeline soon in terms of, you know, he may be able to uh, fill one of the seats that we have available now.

15:56Speaker 3

Dr. Townsend passed a rule that any prospective members have to attend meetings prior to being even considered to see if they fit the committee.

16:04 – 16:20Speaker 2

They need to, they would apply. So there's an application process. And then after the application process, um, I, I don't know that meeting will be in place. And if so, you know, he's interested in joining. So if he needs to attend meetings, I'm sure he will.

16:20 – 16:37Speaker 3

Yeah. I think I had one of the last, committee chair meetings. I know that that was like a big thing that they wanted any prospective members to attend meetings before even applying just to make sure that A, they would fit in and B, they wanted, you know. Right. I have.

16:37 – 17:08Speaker 2

Yeah. I also know that our committee is short-handed and, you know, they may waive it, they may not waive it. But he's interested, so if we tell him, hey, you need to show up to a couple meetings, I'm sure he will. He'll bring the soccer side of Maddox to the committee, and maybe we can broaden our selection process. All right, now onto the agenda.

17:08Speaker 3

Old business approval of minutes from the previous meeting will be provided there on the back on November 3, 2025.

17:17Speaker 2

Before all business public comments. I don't think there's anybody online. And there's nobody in person.

17:26 – 17:38Speaker 3

So if you want to wrap that up, public comments is closed as there's no one online or no one here. So continue to old business approval of the minutes from our previous meeting. No.

17:49Speaker 5

We were done by Jim. They should be perfect.

17:51Speaker 1

I approve. I motion to approve.

17:59 – 18:20Speaker 3

Second by Miriam. Second by Dave. All in favor? Aye. Any opposed? Seeing none. Minutes are approved. All right. On to new business. This being our first meeting of the calendar year, we must select a chair, vice chair, and secretary. So I'll open the floor for nominations.

18:20Speaker 5

I make a motion that we keep the same officers that we had the previous year.

18:27 – 19:16Speaker 3

The question now is who can second that because we're the three officers. Andres, you second. I can't second that. No, but I'm saying, I mean. I know. You guys can still second. Okay. Okay. All right. Motion by Dave to keep status quo. Is there a second? I'll second. Second by Miriam. I'm busy writing. All in favor? Aye. Any opposed? Seeing none, motion carries. So we'll go one more year with the same three officers. A review of last year's ceremony. Did we ever post the video? Because I know we got The video sent to us while you were out on maternity leave and stuff like that.

19:16 – 19:55Speaker 2

So, so the video was posted and it's still currently up on the website or on Instagram. And let me check if it's on YouTube, but it's, it's entirety. It's entirety. Cause they did a post, not, it wasn't just a real, it was an actual post with our, um, with our video. Yeah, so our post is still live on Instagram with the photos and the short video.

19:56Speaker 1

The Tom Abbey Lakes Instagram page?

19:59 – 21:07Speaker 2

Yeah, so we're still on there. And then let me check YouTube for the video itself. I have to follow up on that one because I know that we always put the recap on our sports hockey page so I'll follow up with that I know that we also did a short we did also a story where we put the video and we said we're open for nominees we're open for nominees please if you have anybody nominate them there was one comment We then applied to the link, but then they didn't fill out the application, so. Sometimes we fail to do that. So the Sports Hall of Fame 2025 video is live on our YouTube page. So it's still on there as well.

21:07Speaker 3

Any concerns or questions or comments on last year's ceremony?

21:12 – 21:24Speaker 1

I mean, do we have an ultimate breakdown of what we ended up spending in total. And then how many people, like, would they end up right. That we got just to get a more clear picture. Like we, but we had too much food again.

21:24 – 21:39Speaker 2

Was it, you know, we did, you know, actually save. Um, and so we had, and it was good too.

21:39Speaker 3

We do barbecue burgers, dogs.

21:44Speaker 1

They do the same.

21:45Speaker 3

Yeah, more sporty. That's what I'm thinking.

21:46Speaker 1

They do this, but the same company does it.

21:48 – 22:04Speaker 3

Yeah, they do that also. They'll bring out burgers, dogs. They'll bring out nuts, tomato, ketchup, mustard, all that fun stuff. Salad, potato salad, coleslaw. I'm just saying to flip it around a little bit, make it more sporty. But again, we'll talk about that as we get closer.

22:05 – 22:58Speaker 2

yeah i'm i'm actually looking at nothing i didn't bring my computer today unfortunately but um i know that we still had money uh left over so we didn't spend the whole um funds that we received um even with the increase to the food as years prior um we did have savings from less tables and less high boys. And the lights didn't come, so that was a savings also. Yeah, the lights didn't come. So that was a savings as well. Can we book this guy already for December? Well, yes, we could. Jeremy kind of hinted towards we shouldn't use him again and we should look for other people because it's the second year in a row where something went wrong.

22:59Speaker 1

He's cut something out.

23:00 – 23:34Speaker 2

Right. What did he cut out two years ago? Well, the year before, he didn't have the linens, and then he showed up with the linens, like, right before the event. Last year, he left out the lights without informing us until the day of. And on terms of the backside of billing, it's been a headache. with, you know, headspin inside of it. Again, it's the will of the committee. So if you guys want to use them again, we could. It's just... Maybe we should bid it out then.

23:34Speaker 4

We're having trouble with the guys. We just got to see who else is available in the town.

23:41Speaker 1

What's the name of it?

23:42 – 24:06Speaker 2

Oh, yes. Now, since we are a committee, we don't have to do the traditional bidding out. get the best price and then, you know, talk to them about sponsoring. Just like Fiesta did where they did it in kind. They did a little bit of a discount for trying them out. But we don't have to do like the traditional put it out to bid or anything like that.

24:07Speaker 1

So Fiesta did the lights, the tables, and the linens. That was what they did. And the chairs.

24:19 – 24:35Speaker 4

But is that something the town has more connections to the people that provide that than us. I mean, we're just kind of like volunteers. So I would think the town would have, with all these committees, they'd be using these type of companies.

24:37 – 25:19Speaker 2

Well, actually, we don't use a lot of companies. I would have to talk to Iowa in charge of the other committees. Right. Because the town itself, we don't use. Because we use tables from the town. that we already have in our inventory. We use chairs from our inventory. We don't have, we have some limits for those tables already owned by the town. However, when it comes to events, right, for like other committees, they rent with people, but I don't know who that is, right? Because again, it's the same process. They're not technically, they don't have to go through procurement. They don't have to do that kind of whole,

25:23Speaker 3

committee chair, we can have that discussion with other committees and see.

25:27Speaker 5

Like the elderly affairs committee has like a monthly bingo with lunches. So like they have different people.

25:34 – 26:17Speaker 2

Yeah. But that's set up by the town. Cause it's in the town facility. Okay. So then those tables and chairs and the, not the linens, but the tables and chairs are provided by the town. Um, but for example, like, um, 4th of July, mostly events that are outside outdoors. the committees hire a company to provide the chairs. So that's... What committee would that be? So Cultural Affairs, the Veterans Committee. Let me talk to Carlos Andres, maybe he can help us. Yeah, the Veterans Committee also does... Somebody that's reliable, defensive, whatever you need consistently.

26:20 – 26:31Speaker 4

Do we use the, because I'm always kind of like in and out, but on the event, do we use the high boys? I mean, is it used? The high boys, I mean. I think we got rid of the high boys.

26:31Speaker 2

I think we only had two.

26:32Speaker 4

I thought we had a cohort. I don't think we had a cohort.

26:35Speaker 2

And then the year prior, we had a. Right. Yeah.

26:38Speaker 1

Yeah, I mean, it's just the hangout in the beginning. Right.

26:41Speaker 2

Which this year, I think we put on.

26:42Speaker 1

I can't remember.

26:44Speaker 2

Yeah, right off the edge. And then the artificial turf. Now the artificial turf. Well, that was already there. I think we had it on the surface.

26:52Speaker 4

If we use them, then we should... Yeah, but we can limit it to like four, maybe.

26:57Speaker 3

I think that's where we got to leave it at, though.

26:59 – 27:12Speaker 4

I wouldn't do it either. Well, I'm just saying that because I don't remember really people standing there. They seemed to always go to the table or they'd be milling around a covered patio. But maybe somebody else saw a difference.

27:13Speaker 2

No, they're definitely one of the lesser utilized, but it's the look that it gives, I guess.

27:22 – 27:35Speaker 1

Breaking the bank. Right. I did like the runner, I will say that, since we added the runner, the person. We had the two of the ladies I liked.

27:35 – 27:49Speaker 3

I think that worked for me. That was definitely an add-on that was well worth it. Just like the bartender, again, did well. Right. The company providing the food, they were serving and stuff like that.

27:50 – 28:10Speaker 2

Well, the person serving was actually from one of the bartenders. Oh, was it? Okay. So the company itself, they just dropped off the food. And then since we had two bartenders, we had one runner and an actual bartender. The runner, when the food came, started serving food instead of running drinks. So I think it was.

28:10Speaker 1

They picked off, they cleaned up the table. I mean.

28:12Speaker 4

I think it was very good work.

28:14Speaker 1

The investment.

28:16Speaker 4

We can get the same contract for the same group. Yeah. We can say no to a team.

28:22Speaker 3

All right. Next item is, did we have any nominations left over from last year?

28:32Speaker 2

Yes, there was one. The baseball coach from HML.

28:39 – 28:53Speaker 2

What was his name? Robert Merritt. He was the vice mayor's nominee, and he was left off of Lashley's class. He wasn't left off, he just wasn't elected.

28:53 – 29:04Speaker 4

Right. He didn't get elected Lashley. We thought we had, you know, I think.

29:05Speaker 3

So he was the only one that was left over from, that wasn't selected.

29:11Speaker 3

And then obviously we haven't done any new ones yet. Hasn't yet.

29:14Speaker 5

Any update on the picture? I haven't heard anything. Do you want me to see if I can find out something?

29:22 – 30:02Speaker 4

Sure. Okay. Let me ask a question on the deadline. Is it still August 1st? August 1st. I know that's been way back from the original April 1st or May 1st. But does that seem to back us up into then only having like 30 days to make a decision on ourselves? I'm thinking that maybe it should be June 1st or something like that when school's out or some other date. Only because to me, if it's August 1st and September or October, we have to present to the town. No, we have to present to the town.

30:02 – 30:49Speaker 2

Well, we're actually on the August DACA. So what I did was, as part of our committee reports, I requested August for our committee so that August 1st, we nominate. And then by the third Tuesday of the month in August, we would then just give our nominations. It would get approved. And then we have the rest of August, all of September, all of October, all of November, and June. We already know our class. We already know. I know in years past, pushing it to September was always, you know, then in September, then into October, and then it was kind of pushing it. But I made sure that we got on to the August council meeting.

30:50Speaker 4

Okay, so this year is already set, obviously.

30:52Speaker 2

But for the following year, what I did was I requested from now until,

31:03 – 31:32Speaker 4

I'm just, I'm wondering out loud, so if I could help the committee. I think it backs us up into, like, you know, if the townspeople do nominate some good people, and yet we've already, again, looked at, you know, four really good candidates, then all of a sudden we have to go back and review something. If we can change the date for the following future to June 1st or something that at least we have a month or so

31:33 – 32:27Speaker 2

grace period of two months to be two months that you know that we can uh have time to decide to me the most important thing in this committee is picking the right people right to to be so we can obviously um you guys can discuss if you guys want to do that it's possible we would just have to uh change our um we have to change this line right we have to change our form right and have to get approved by council so um if we want to change it for next year we would have to change the language and put it on like the march council meeting right so that then it would change the day to whatever day you guys feel is best for the committee.

32:31 – 32:48Speaker 4

Does anybody else feel that that backs us up into kind of like a deadline quagmire with leaving it August 1st and then yet within days or weeks we have to present to the council?

32:48 – 33:05Speaker 1

I think in the few years I've been here, we've never had anybody give us something. We were like, oh, my God, we have to do that. So I guess until it happens, we don't know how that feels because no one's, no, anybody from the public has presented a new name to us that we don't already have.

33:05Speaker 3

Like last year was the first time when the vice mayor gave us.

33:11Speaker 1

Was it wrong? Wrong.

33:13Speaker 2

Which. But he did give it early.

33:15Speaker 1

Yeah, we already had it. For our. Yeah. It wasn't after the fact that we were.

33:20 – 33:35Speaker 2

But again, it's up to you guys if you guys want to change that. If you feel more comfortable moving into July 1st and then having July all the way until, you know, the August meeting to, you know, have that decision, we can just, again.

33:35Speaker 1

For 2027, maybe?

33:36Speaker 2

Right. It would have to go to a vote and then get approved by council once we, you know, in that language. Okay.

33:48Speaker 1

We're looking at the calendar for our tentative December date is it on to always do the second second second resolution what's the did you say.

33:55Speaker 3

No, I was looking at the August. In this year's day it's really hard is 12.

34:18Speaker 4

What's the bullet set in play social media campaign for new nominations?

34:23 – 34:34Speaker 3

I mean, I think Andra says that they already put that out. Yeah. No, I suppose it already happened. They already put it out on Instagram requesting nominations from the town and from the residents and stuff.

34:39 – 34:56Speaker 2

I guess I'll put it out again. Yeah. I'll tell our communications department to do another post. They will do another story, try to get engagement, send them to the website to do nominations. So I'll have them, you know, do another one.

34:57Speaker 3

Right. As far as, so you said we had money left over. Do you know how much we had left over?

35:01 – 35:14Speaker 2

I would have to confirm the total. I know that we are, I don't want to say number because I don't know the exact amount.

35:15 – 35:51Speaker 2

under 500 over um i if my memory served me right it's not gonna hold it to you and i'm gonna hold you to under 500 over 200 okay so somewhere in that range between two and five yeah between two and five um and then we're still in line to get the thousand from the town and the new budget correct in october yeah that's not being touched because i know there's yeah it's coming everywhere the thing is that that Our line item is kind of special because it's in the park's budget. It's in the park's budget. It's in the, like, office park budget, and they're not in the budget.

35:53Speaker 3

And then we just got to start working on title sponsor again, start getting them in line and stuff like that. Who reached out on that?

36:01 – 36:51Speaker 2

Did you reach out? I think historically you've reached out to Ocean Bank. Yeah, we did. Right. Yeah. It'd be the same thing as last year. If you want me to reach out to her, I also have her email. So I will, we already have a date, December 12th. So I'll send our packet unless you guys want to make any changes to the packet. Financially, we were fine where we were. So what I'll do is I'll just get our packet again, send it to all the people who've been wanting to be sponsors with the town and stuff like that. it's always good for you guys to speak to sponsors as well. So I know like, for example, our mall was our sponsor last year, getting in contact with Fred again, option bank.

36:51 – 37:09Speaker 3

We had, you know, I mean, we might have a little bit of a drawback on the post this year with Tico's health concerns. I don't know if Matthew will be able to do it. So I'll have to have a conversation with Matthew. I'm missing that. The poster that Tico. Oh, the poster. Right. Got to see if Matthew can do it for us. So if not, we might have to, you know, go to the poster this year.

37:10 – 37:21Speaker 2

Once we make picks or it's a nice gesture, so we can just make them. Yeah. Right. You know, sure. It might be free, but I'm sure it's not bad.

37:21Speaker 3

I mean, I have another printing company that I can go to also that's inside the town also.

37:24Speaker 2

So it's just, so it's, um, uh, but yeah, so we should already start reaching out to whatever responses we've talked to in the past. Um,

37:37 – 38:02Speaker 4

seven months seems like a long time but it's really not when it turns out when you're asking for money yeah some of them budget and and it changes some of them october first they have a new year right financially and others that have a calendar right so um it's always good to reach out to them early um as you know we we have payways

38:03Speaker 2

Last year, the year before, but... They closed. They closed. That's why they didn't sponsor last year. So, again, I'll just... I'll send out a feeders.

38:13Speaker 3

So, last year, we had Ocean Bank, Ottawa, the bakery gave the in-kind on the food. Right. What else did we have last year?

38:19Speaker 2

Fiesta, Carousel. Was in-kind. Mayor's Cafe. And...

38:29Speaker 3

The Graham Company. Graham. And then... Tony Fernandez's company also.

38:34Speaker 2

Yes, correct.

38:40Speaker 4

What was Tony Fernandez? He gave like $500 or $700.

38:45 – 39:19Speaker 3

He's got a consulting company, like a computer company. Oh, a tech company. Yeah, I mean, that's one of the things I want to eventually visit if we secure that wall the way we want to secure it. Because I had a discussion with him at one point about possibly putting like a little, small little monitor there in the middle of it, replaying the videos, like all our videos. So that when people come, they can see the videos over and over and over. But that's something that, he came up with the idea and stuff like that. I forgot when we talked about it. But obviously it's got to see, you know, we got to make sure it fits under a budget and see if the town would approve that. Because obviously it's, you know.

39:19 – 39:42Speaker 1

Isn't there when you walk in on the right-hand side across from the wall, isn't there like a window? Not a window outside, but just a trophy case. There's a light in there, right? No, because to me, a mini monitor would go in there. You know what I'm saying? Because the electricity is already there. Because we have that at school.

39:42Speaker 3

Well, no, but there's electricity there because the light's on top.

39:45Speaker 1

Right. You're going to have to drill a hole.

39:49Speaker 1

I'm just saying, because, I mean, we start talking about children's games.

39:52 – 40:34Speaker 2

Yeah, that says, and when it comes to modifying a governmental building, it's a discussion. So if it's something that the committee is very interested in, and you guys feel that we can do it, we just need to, you know, ask the right people and then we can make it happen. Um, but again, if that's the route we want to go through, um, again, our committee is very, um, easy to maneuver when we're not doing large scale things. So a lot of things, a lot of the ideas that we have and come to fruition, but

40:43 – 41:09Speaker 3

Okay. Anything new from the committee? So I have a question. Jim, we wanted to get, and again, I thought we had discussed this at the event last year. We wanted to get some nicer shirts, didn't we? That we can use at the event. Like at least, I thought we had discussed it. Getting like a dress type shirt, like a guava or something like that. For who? For us? Yeah, for the committee. Oh. I thought we had discussed that last year that if we have money left over, we wanted to get it.

41:11Speaker 1

something that we don't wear.

41:13Speaker 3

Yeah. So, you know, again, you know, the men are still, you know, they want to wear a sport coat, they can wear a sport coat, but you know, if you take off your sport coat, you have the shirt that, but it's better than a polo. You know what I mean?

41:22Speaker 1

Right, right, right.

41:23Speaker 3

The polos are great for meetings and stuff like that, but it's hard to, you know, wear a polo at an event that we want it to be more upscale. You know what I mean? I don't know. I mean, again, that's just, I thought we had discussed it, but maybe I'm off.

41:33Speaker 4

I'm not really discussing it. I know we didn't decide on it.

41:37Speaker 3

Yeah, we didn't decide, but we did have a discussion, right?

41:39Speaker 4

Right. Okay.

41:40 – 41:59Speaker 3

My hand isn't that great. But we can bring that back in August. I mean, I know. I think I know some of that. I think a guy knows. I know a guy that can do shirts and stuff. All right. Anything else new from the committee? Concerns or...

42:02 – 42:57Speaker 4

I was going to ask the committee on a name that I had, and I know this isn't necessarily the right time, but I've got a list of about 14 people. Don Tost is on the first of the list, but if not my nomination, I know it's Miriam's. But a person that's not really into sports, but has donated... the same if they get amount of money to sports, even for the Optimist Club. And it's a man that's listed as one of our key sponsors that wants to be a title sponsor. I don't know how that works into it, but again, the award would be under Community Builder, obviously. But I don't know if the Community Builder obviously, I would think, has to be associated in some regard with sports.

42:59Speaker 3

Yeah, but I mean, I think I know where you're going with it. And, you know, the financial backing he gives allows the sports teams to excel.

43:07Speaker 4

Right. But I don't know. I'm not trying to step outside the boundary. I'm just trying to, I guess, ask if a name like Prince would be, you know...

43:17 – 43:34Speaker 3

I mean, I wouldn't have an issue with it, knowing his history with the town and with the club. But, I mean... I think that's the definition of a community builder, not just, you know, giving time. And he gives his time also because he's always around and stuff like that. But, you know.

43:34 – 44:46Speaker 2

Yeah, we just, what I recommend is all your nominations, send them to the, to the email address that's on the nominations. It's going to stay centralized and like that for next year. It's there. It's not only going to this year. Right, for this year. Right. Also, when we do the nominations in late July, early August, we just have to read our resolution, and if it fits, you guys feel it's best, we move forward. If it kind of doesn't fit the resolution in terms of community builder and that description, then obviously we wouldn't be able to vote on it, but there's no denying Brett helps the town out with everything and anything right um it's just we gotta um obviously i don't have the resolution in front of me so i can't say if there is a sports component to community building or not i would think there is only because yeah because we're sports hall of fame but you know is anyone over i understand is this the credit from the automobile yes okay and i understand the he donates

44:54Speaker 3

in terms of what is written out. If it doesn't happen this year, it's always something that the committee can revisit.

45:00Speaker 4

I didn't even want to say if it wasn't a viable... Well, that's the beauty of it, right?

45:06Speaker 2

You can submit anything and then it's the committee's will to who they choose.

45:14 – 47:00Speaker 4

I just want to submit what's legal. I mean, it fits into the guidelines and I'd have to go back in and also maybe... you know check with him on his background because i know there's other community builders that are associated um you know with a sport that you like mr graham he was a big batman player in the service and uh it was recognized as such i remember and traveled to japan to play you know represent the u.s army or whoever it was so i mean there's a component of community builder with him in in that fact so maybe i could do an interview with him just so i felt like it's a stronger recommendation the other thing i was going to mention is since i've got like 14 people um obviously i'm not going to name uh nominate all 14 but um i would do it in maybe Maybe a priority list who I think might have a better chance than another person. A lot of them are HML athletes. But I don't want to steal your thunder either. Well, you're not stealing their thunder. And then, you know. The question now is, do we have contact information for all these athletes? I don't personally. I would have to, you know, probably contact HML to see. But now they... probably a new athletic director who would not maybe know these names, or maybe they would, new principal, but I mean, nobody, there's no, you know, close ties to any of these people. And you might know, you know, like a Red Ninos. I've got stories on that.

47:01 – 47:13Speaker 1

I told you that last year when you asked me. Like, I have people that I know, but it's, they were iffy to give up. It's Oh, okay. Oh, wow.

47:14Speaker 3

Well, let's see. How to get a hold of him? Correct. Yeah. I mean, I have a way of getting a hold of Brad if I need to.

47:21 – 47:50Speaker 4

Right. But again, I don't want to say that's anybody that's not, because they also have to have a heretic component to the denomination. So maybe, you know, because my impression is I can call Miriam up and ask her a couple of questions on people. We're not voting on it, so I don't think that's outside the Sunshine rule. But I want to make sure of that. Do you have a take on that?

47:50Speaker 3

I have no issue whatsoever with that. Again, it's outside the Sunshine because it's something that's not important.

47:55Speaker 1

We're just getting names to say, can we even get a hold of these people?

47:59Speaker 4

Yeah, it's just, you know, can HML help us get people? I made sure of that before you go on your lengthy vacation.

48:06 – 48:35Speaker 3

Yeah. So, okay. Anything else from the committee? Okay, so deadline August 1. I don't come back until August 8th. So, I guess we have to check to see if the room is available like the 11th, which would give us a week before the council meeting. Right. So, let me check.

48:36 – 49:11Speaker 2

Also, we can do it before, not only when you leave. July 22nd. until the 22nd until the 22nd let me check because we could like we did last year do it before come up then we would kind of do a rush yeah but she gets back the 22nd and I leave the 22nd yeah so that's all table let me see if we have I mean again if you get anything you can send it by email I'll be checking you I'll have

49:12Speaker 3

Wi-Fi where I'm at? Oh, yeah. Eight days crossing the Atlantic Ocean, you need Wi-Fi.

49:22Speaker 1

I might not know what time zone I'm in, but I'll have one.

49:27 – 50:06Speaker 4

Well, he's checking back. It takes a few minutes. I've got one item down here, like on the 1975 HML state champion football team. We never brought in a whole team. And obviously, you're not going to bring a whole team in. But that team could be nominated. The head coach is Joe Brodsky. He's, I think, deceased. But he has two sons that played on that team that could be actually nominated or, you know, along with the team and whatever players, you know, would come represent that team. Is that something we want to tackle?

50:06 – 50:33Speaker 3

I've always wanted to do a team. I mean, my first inclination, the first year I did this committee, I did the 85 baseball team because they were national champions. and stuff like that. So I've always wanted to do a team. We didn't because we got some character issues when we started researching some of the players on the team. As a team, you've got to bypass some of the character issues because it's the whole team. You're not playing one person.

50:33 – 50:52Speaker 4

Right. Because I'm sure even on a football team, there's so many characters. There's so many characters on a different team. So Okay, so that's an open area to pursue.

50:53Speaker 3

When you come back the 11th. I'm back the 8th. The 8th is when I arrived, which is a Saturday. That's why I said the 11th, which was a Tuesday.

51:01 – 51:13Speaker 2

All right, so the 11th, we can do our same time. Wednesday is booked, and then we can do Thursday as well, the 13th. How about the 10th?

51:17 – 52:12Speaker 3

yeah are you back monday the 10th oh yeah we have 13 yeah yeah yeah okay and let's shoot for the 10th that way it gives me time to write the council because council agenda would be we do one friday thursday um so the council meeting is a week after the 18th that's right um okay so yeah august the It's like you can do the 10th, but we can do the 11th. So we meet the 10th and I can write it that night and get it submitted. So it was the council on the 18th. Right. Cause I could already have everything presented like on the agenda. It's just inserting, inserting the notes for the actual report. Right. So there's a 10th word for five, five 30. Yeah.

52:14Speaker 5

August 10th.

52:14 – 52:45Speaker 3

Yep. So that's our next meeting. We'll make our selection and stuff like that. Obviously, the phone calls will come after council on the 18th. So we'll get back together after council the 18th to make the calls. I guess anything else from the committee?

52:46 – 52:57Speaker 2

Yeah, we didn't really vote on anything today. We had a lot of discussions. I don't know if you guys want to solidify anything you guys kind of spoke about today. So we can start at the minute. Yeah.

53:07 – 53:42Speaker 2

That's right. Two votes. Two votes. I don't know if you guys want to already start, you know, are you guys okay to get the food company we use? Do you guys want to let me... Yeah, I just... I know we usually do it later on, but again, if we already know that we're going to use them, might as well just vote on it and get it done. Yeah, we can vote them. Yeah. I mean, it's well in advance, but also Gareth J. I don't want to wait till because the August meeting we're not going to talk anything about the event we're just going to be right now, so I know our next. Gareth J.

53:42 – 54:03Speaker 4

You know meeting, we will then have to vote and then it's going to delay everything and a lot of us, we could confirm yeah but i'd rather do it early, so we were under a calendar and right and we're confirmed with it okay so someone made motion. Gareth J. i'll make a motion that we use the same vendor. Gareth J. To visit get us your emotion by Jim.

54:04 – 54:19Speaker 3

Second, second by Miriam all in favor. Okay, the opposed seeing on she carries for zero. So we'll go ahead and contract with us because of catering obviously the tables and stuff we can't really do yet until we find somebody else.

54:22 – 54:48Speaker 1

Unless the committee wants to go back to the SEC, I was like he said it's our decision, but I was going to check with my activities director, what do we use when we have functions at school. And then Lynn Matos is still part of our ESAC committee. I actually reached out to her to tell her about me and our new principal tomorrow. But she does food and wine. And I know that they use a lot of stuff just to see.

54:48Speaker 2

Yes, they use tables. And they set up some tables and share them out.

54:53Speaker 1

But they have to take that out, right? I mean, she has to, you know.

54:59Speaker 2

Yeah, she, that's not from the town.

55:01Speaker 1

Correct, because it's a lot. So just to be curious who she uses, you know.

55:05 – 55:20Speaker 4

That's a good suggestion because, yeah, you probably get a good price from that because it's a town function. Right. So I'll ask her. Go ahead. What was the name of the vendor? Exquisite Catering by Robert. Catering by Robert? Exquisite Catering. Okay. Okay.

55:26Speaker 3

I guess we want to go ahead and try to book the same staff that we had the same. Was it a company or was it like a direct staff?

55:34Speaker 2

In terms of?

55:35Speaker 3

For the runner and the bartenders.

55:37Speaker 2

Yeah, that was a company that we used. We've used them two years in a row. Just last year we used two. So we want to move forward with that as well. I think so. Okay. Motion for that? I motion. Motion by Miriam.

55:48 – 56:06Speaker 3

Second. Second by Dave. All in favor? Aye. Aye. So none of those motion carries for zero. So we're going to go ahead and have Andres book the bartender and run fires and company. The company is fire water bars and two to two people, two stocks.

56:08 – 56:33Speaker 1

And I'll already tell my band director that December 12th is the date. Like now I'll tell him now. Cause he's one of these, I realized that he needs like months in it. Like, don't they just know, like, stuff? Like, you know, there's just songs that you just play. There's just songs you play over and over and over again. You know, like, sounds good.

56:40 – 57:03Speaker 4

That motion was Miriam and seconded by David. Yes. So the only one we're not setting up is the tables and chairs.

57:03Speaker 3

I'll put it as an item in the August meeting just so we can vote on that. Once we have a decision, we can move forward with that.

57:11 – 57:24Speaker 1

And we don't remember, like, even, because I put here, like, they asked me, what do we need? I just put the 10 circle, right? 10 of 10. 10 circle tables. Yeah, we use 10. Do they have diameter? I don't know how they function.

57:24Speaker 2

I think they're eight foot round tables.

57:26Speaker 1

Eight foot? Is that what they're? Yeah. Kind of cedars. I just know they're... Yeah.

57:29Speaker 2

Eight foot round tables.

57:30 – 57:44Speaker 1

Yeah. I have the tables and I have four high tops, but we did, which means a hundred shares, right? We don't ever put any extra in there. No. And then the linens that fit that and then the bistro lights, correct? Correct. And then usually in years past, the

57:52 – 58:03Speaker 2

The skirt to the stage was also brought by Fiesta to match whatever linens we were using. Okay. Are we going to do white or are we doing black?

58:05Speaker 3

I would do white. We've always done black. Did we? Okay. I can remember.

58:12 – 58:23Speaker 1

No. White is just two and then it depends on the table. Sometimes if you don't have good linens and we don't know because we don't know what they'll bring until that day, you can see through them. Oh, okay. Yeah, we stopped doing that at school. Okay. And then all of us, yeah, no.

58:25 – 58:38Speaker 2

All right, we'll stay for the final. Yep. Now, okay, so food's covered. Blenheim's will do tables, all that. We'll do, I guess, in the August meeting. Or follow them after that.

58:39Speaker 3

No, I'll put it as a line of progress. You do it. Okay. Figure it out so we can get direction once we make our nominations. Okay, perfect.

58:49 – 59:03Speaker 2

And then we have the food. We have the runners. And then do you guys want to already approve the plaques? Obviously, we don't have our nominees, but the plaques. Yeah, it's going to be through FastSigns. Right.

59:03Speaker 4

Yeah. What was the name of the company? For the plaques? FastSigns. Oh, FastSigns. FastSigns. Oh, FastSigns. I'm sorry.

59:28Speaker 1

Do we have anywhere? I'm trying to look at old ones. How much we spent on tables and chairs and stuff? Is there a, just so.

59:40 – 59:56Speaker 2

So on my phone, I was able to pull up the 2024. Okay. Not 25, but we spent on tables, lights, and high boys, 1,700. Okay. But that was with 15 tables, eight high boys, and the leisure lights.

59:57Speaker 1

So that's as long as it's something under that. Right.

1:00:00Speaker 2

I was once a close price.

1:00:05Speaker 4

125 was a lot less. So I didn't get a motion yet to approve the fast sign. Who's making the motion?

1:00:17Speaker 3

Motion by Miriam. Second by Dave. All in favor?

1:00:21 – 1:00:33Speaker 3

Aye. And you oppose the non motion carries for zero class size to start the process of ordering plaques once we get the nominees in this month or six weeks.

1:00:34 – 1:01:34Speaker 2

Thank you. And then, besides that. Everything else can be done. Either next meeting of the meeting after. I will say we should. Every year we try to get a little better, which every year we have. Now we had to try to top last year. So maybe the balloon entrance, maybe, you know, stuff that we've had conversations of, we just never really made it happen. Maybe we can start looking into that already and possibly making something like that, you know, just better. Right. Last year, it was great that we did the poster and put it on the food was a better addition and, you know, obviously the runners. So we really elevated last year compared to before. So let's try to continue to make this event one of the best.

1:01:35 – 1:02:24Speaker 3

Hopefully we'll get more involvement from Luke. All right. I'm definitely, I'm going to hit up the At least the football side of the house, I want a bunch of my kids there in jerseys and stuff. Maybe we can talk to baseball and get some of the baseball kids out there. I mean, again, whether there's a football inductee or a baseball inductee, it doesn't matter. I want kids there to represent our community. You know what I mean? I just think it would be a plus to see kids out there. I know we try to make it a classy, but, you know, we want them, we always tell them that they're the future. They're the ones that are eventually be on that stage. I want them to start seeing what, you know, what can come when they get to that level.

1:02:26Speaker 4

Kind of start looking at a quote star figure. Yeah. Right. I mean, I like. Is that why you're 14?

1:02:36Speaker 3

Yeah. I'm sure he has one there. He's got his wild card.

1:02:40 – 1:02:51Speaker 4

Mike Shula, Cincinnati, they lived here. The problem is he's coaching football. Yeah, December's hard. Yeah, some of these are.

1:02:51 – 1:03:06Speaker 3

Yeah, just like James Jones is so hard to get here because he's president of basketball operations now. I'm going to reach out and see if that's possible. You've got to see when Phoenix is here. Right. Because I think they called last year and said, hey, if you move your ceremony up a week, James can be there.

1:03:06Speaker 2

Oh, in the midst of our week.

1:03:07Speaker 3

Yeah, it's like, yeah, let me just, you know, change my resolution for, you know, move it up a week.

1:03:13Speaker 4

They were serious about it. They were. I know they were. I know they were.

1:03:17 – 1:03:28Speaker 5

All right. So anything else, sir? Yes, sir. We've had conversations in the past about rearranging the plaques on the wall over there. Is there any update on that?

1:03:30 – 1:04:40Speaker 2

Um, well we couldn't definitely do, um, how we could do it. We can change the wall. Now you guys would have to bring ideas on how we would arrange that wall. Because again, the, the war is the creation of the sports hall of fame. Right. And previous, uh, meetings, I guess, shows that that would be the best way to display the plaques. Now it's getting crowded. I think we only have three spots on the current format unless we do another one. And then it's pretty much on the wall on the floor. Um, so it was up to you just to go higher. Well, the thing is, obviously we have, um, some years that we have five inductees, some are four, some are three. And we're looking at the wall. We can go more left though. Yeah. Well, the whole wall, right. We're pretty much in the middle of the wall. There's wall space to again, up to the committee to see how you guys want to arrange it. And it's true for like a September field trip.

1:04:42 – 1:05:29Speaker 4

I mean, we don't have to go there to make a decision. I mean, to make the decision, but in discussing it, I'm always thought, because every time we talk about it, I always remember it coming back to the same thing. The first year would be, it's almost like whatever year it was. I'm not saying there'd be a year sign up there, but everybody from that class would be saying, vertical vertical and then the next year would be vertical and all the way so we just have to go left so we'd have to go more left and yeah but we never really it's not that we ever i think we always came to the same conclusion that would probably be the best organized way even if one was five and one was four uh i don't think we are in three i know typically we have four 2024 we have

1:05:33Speaker 2

I think 2024, we had three because we had four and then Fernandez dropped out.

1:05:41 – 1:06:04Speaker 4

And we only had three? Well, what was that, class four? 2024, Snellenberger, Roland Gomez, Gus Ganderius, and Mike Uspensky. Well, there were a couple that had perhaps delayed, you know. Well, two out of the four would cease.

1:06:05 – 1:06:24Speaker 5

So, honest, we still have plenty of room to the right? We have plenty of room to the right, and we have a good amount of room to the left as well. So maybe we should just table this, you know, finish it going to the right. Then when that day comes, we need more space, we move everything to the left. Possibly.

1:06:24Speaker 2

I mean, it's up to you. Again, wherever you guys decide, we would look to do it.

1:06:29Speaker 1

Because then it doesn't go in chronological order. When we moved to the left, unless we were to shift.

1:06:35 – 1:06:50Speaker 5

In other words, continued doing it vertically to the right. Now, when we got no more room to the right, then everything will be shifted to the left. Now we have more room to the right.

1:06:50Speaker 4

No, no. That's what I thought. But that's what I'm saying. Right. I always thought it should be so that in the class of 2017, everybody straight down is in that class. Yeah.

1:07:01 – 1:07:22Speaker 2

right now the way it is it's it's horizontal right and we have four on each side right so then it goes 17 has four of these so it's tuned no it's all four on the left side and then 2018 is all on the right and i think that class has fun there's no way you can know who's in that class unless you're in that class

1:07:22Speaker 1

And you just follow whatever it says. I'm sure it says on the plaque.

1:07:25Speaker 2

It says on the plaque, but it goes, and then it would jump down.

1:07:28Speaker 1

Right. Like, it just, like, snake.

1:07:30Speaker 2

Yeah, like that. So, class of 24, we're going to be three. Yeah. We snake. It was supposed to be four, but then, since Alex Fernandez couldn't.

1:07:36Speaker 3

Yeah, because that was the Danny Delgado Caballero class. In 24. Right.

1:07:42 – 1:08:03Speaker 4

But I don't think that would really have an impact going forward. But I kind of disagree. I think we're going to make the change instead of go all the way to the right. We're going to have to eventually take that and move it all the way to the left. Why not just go ahead and start on the left? We could do it now. That's what I'm saying.

1:08:03Speaker 5

If we have the money.

1:08:04Speaker 4

But do it vertically by year.

1:08:06Speaker 1

Right. Blacks are what? 8 by 10? 8 by 10. 8 by 10.

1:08:12 – 1:08:26Speaker 4

Because the longer we wait, the more expensive it will be. I'm sure they're going to charge more. We could do that now. We could look into the cost. Can you check the cost on that? Yes.

1:08:26Speaker 2

FastSign installs it, right? FastSign does install it. Typically, they install it, and I would have them come out and install it again.

1:08:33Speaker 5

Wouldn't the town have somebody?

1:08:35 – 1:09:35Speaker 2

We have handymen, but the issue with that is if something were to break, then we'll just, you know, if we put it on the company who, you know, made the signs, they can probably take care of it better and put it in the right spot than, you know, our just handyman where general, you know, they fix everything, then maybe they don't take care of it as much and stuff like that. So I would just reach out to FastSign, kind of make it as part of when they're installing the new signs to, you know, move everything else. I don't see it being... Anything out of this world. Right. Um, now when you're looking at the wall, I will start where the H starts or sports or the S starts because the wall has sports hall of fame, and then it kind of lives in the middle where the S is right. From sports, start the column there and then just go all the way down. Um, and then it keeps it square.

1:09:36 – 1:10:08Speaker 4

So I'm looking at this wall right here. behind Miriam would you are you saying just start at the far farthest left part and then and first the first last and the second class yeah and I'm not visually understanding yeah see that's why we need a field trip right we need a field trip oh well I was gonna pretend like that's why I see these pictures and it's like I know there's something in the middle but can that be moved as well

1:10:09Speaker 1

That was like the header.

1:10:11Speaker 1

No, I think the one in the middle is the dedication. The dedication, like gold, like a big gold plaque.

1:10:17Speaker 3

Yes, the dedication showing how it was established and stuff.

1:10:24 – 1:11:24Speaker 2

From the picture, it's already set up. Yeah, we could go all the way. So that's how it looks. There's a few more additions, because that figure is from 234. Yeah, we could start basically where the wall starts. We can give it like five feet and then start. Right. Because right now, the way it is, it's square with the Sports Hall of Fame sign on top of it. Right. So it's Sports Hall of Fame. Then it has the town logo, dedication. And then on each side, dedication has a piece. I think it started like that because we didn't have enough. And then, you know, they kind of wanted to keep it square. Yeah, but I think we need to start moving. Yeah, we would have to move it in waves to the left and then just start rows up and down. And then if there's five, if there's four, if there's three.

1:11:29 – 1:11:55Speaker 4

is it possible though is the sport hall of fame sign and that be centered on the existing wall which would have no whole wall do with that i think it is i would have to confirm but i think it is it's already hit so that's okay and actually as it grows let's say this is where we'll just start to right well that'll just have that'll be part of this is the middle and then that should yeah because identification and stuff but then it would be in the middle of the wall i would say yeah and that would

1:11:55 – 1:12:08Speaker 2

Nice. Right. Basically, the only thing we move are the plaques to the left and then arrange them from here. Both. Perfectly. Because right now it's horizontal because they were trying to square it off. Right. They were trying to keep it square.

1:12:08Speaker 3

So we want to make a motion on that?

1:12:12Speaker 1

Yes, we're making the motion for one. Two.

1:12:15Speaker 3

To rearrange. And push it all the way to the left and start the process and getting, I guess, getting a price. Getting a quote. Getting a quote. Okay.

1:12:23Speaker 1

All right, I'll motion that we get a quote about the rearrangement.

1:12:27 – 1:12:41Speaker 3

So we have a motion from Miriam to get a quote to rearrange the wall the way it looks to better suit us for future growth. Second by Dave. All in favor? Aye. Any opposed? Seeing none. Motion carries.

1:12:44Speaker 5

And this would be start with the first year. Correct. Just go vertical. This would be second year.

1:12:49 – 1:13:31Speaker 3

Ninth class. This year is the ninth class. Next year is the ninth. How many classes have we had so far? Eight. This will be number nine. Ten years, but eight, nine classes because of COVID. Yeah, I think 21 skipped. 20, yeah, 21 was skipped. I think we did 20 and 21. Gotcha. Because 20 really was, we had already voted on a class, but COVID stopped the ceremony. Right. Because I was Mariam's class. Yeah. And technically she got inducted in 21, but she was a class of 20. And we bypassed the 21 class. Understood. So this is technically year 10, but class 9. It's a big ceremony.

1:13:31Speaker 2

10th year of the committee. Man, I've been doing this thing for 10 years.

1:13:35Speaker 3

It's going to help me.

1:13:37Speaker 1

You're still strong.

1:13:39Speaker 5

Yeah. Hope you're able to do this when you get old.
