I call the Wednesday, August 5th, 2026 council business meeting to order. I met with the council members at 5 p.m. in the sixth floor council conference room for a briefing to discuss tonight's agenda. At 5.30 p.m., we moved here to the first floor chambers to conduct the council business meeting in person. and because we encourage community involvement we invite the public to join us in person attend via remote option through zoom or view on bcat please note that tonight's agenda has been amended to add a 10-minute executive session under item 8a and no action is anticipated The council will
Thank you. Is there anybody else who would like to comment on anything on the consent agenda? Okay. We had no request to comment remotely on the consent agenda items. So, well, I've already invited everybody up, sorry. All right. Is there anybody here who didn't sign up on the sheets before that wants to comment on the consent agenda? We have a new process in case you're unaware. When you come in at the back, there's sign up sheets for commenting on agenda items or for just commenting on community comment. And I'm going to be pretty loose with those rules. If you forget to sign up after everyb
I move to approve the consent agenda as presented.
Is there any council discussion? There are no discussion. It says it right here. Seeing no further discussion, please call for the vote. Thank you.
Okay, with no general business items tonight, next we have the mayor's report. Welcome, Mayor Wheeler.
All right, good evening, Council, Council President. I've got, I think, a number of slides this evening. So we'll get started here. All right, so the... I wanted to share this with you. This is just some phenomenal work. Everybody involved, especially in the design features and the public art that put together what is turning out to be award-winning displays. So recently we were recognized by National Public Works Association for a Public Works project within the category that we were entered into. This one here is called the CODA Award, which is recognizing weaving notes, the artistic display
Thank you, Mayor. Next up is council member reports. This is an opportunity for council members to provide an update on any issues or events taking place in their district, announce any events they've recently attended or plan to attend, or to speak on any other city-related topics. Since this is the first council meeting of the month, we will start with District 1 Council Member Jennifer Chamberlain. Okay, do I have any slides? It says you have one.
All right, that's my annual slide. Summer cleaning, let's see, the next opportunity will be August 15th. Get your coffee, get your t-shirt, have some fun. Show up at Cafe Perfetto. I think that's the only slide so you can take that down. I have a little art project that I created with, what was that? Where is it? It starts at Cafe Perfetto. I'm sorry. Let's talk later, Suzanne. I have a little art project that I created with Rima from Spread Supplies, and I want to share it with you today. So there's signs that have been around our community that you may or may not have noticed. Safety for all
I believe I have the right to make an executive session public. So I'll do that when we're back there. So I stand 10 toes down because I believe most Bremertonians do not oppose this tiny home community. And I'm tired of the can getting kicked down the road. The mayor had a proposal a couple of years ago that we voted down. Now we have another proposal. And I think we need to figure out how to make it work. I just really believe that we're on the wrong side of history if we don't make it work yet. So that's all, thank you.
Council Vice President and District 2 Council Member Denise Fry.
I have held back from speaking publicly about the proposal on Sheridan Road and I'm going to maintain my professionalism as a city council member and not discuss it publicly because it is currently under consideration by the planning commission and will come to the council in due time. I hope those weren't the signs that were stolen that were then corrected. Okay. Let's go to my side, please. We have an open house coming up. There's a great project we've been talking about. and planning for for over 10 years in my district, and this is Safe Routes to School at View Ridge Elementary School. I e
Thank you. Next is District 3 Councilmember Christy Camerota.
And I have the no slides, the slide of shame. This week my update is I have actually made Survey to come out to the brick-and-mortar businesses that we have here in Bremerton to kind of capture from their point of view how they feel about our Large-scale special events that we have and so I was lucky enough to be able to conduct my first one Which I thought was only going to take about 30 minutes and because I'm chatty it took an hour And I may or may not have shopped on my way out of said store but it was I think it's going to be really neat and the design of it is so that it's not just the d
Thank you. Next, let's hear from District 5 Councilmember Michael Goodnow.
Okay, let's go through some slides. First up, there is a new mural going in on the side of spread supplies. So it sort of faces, I guess, Lafayette, kind of the U-Haul center over there. Anyways, it's a great way to bring some color and stuff, and I just love the idea of that area being almost like a little mural district. Next slide. The district, the Charleston Business District wants to thank the city for donating or I guess relocating more planters from other areas of the city that were no longer being used down onto Calo so they can care for the plants and bring some green down there. Nex
Okay, thanks. Tomorrow, 6 p.m. at Typewriter Fever. And so if you'd like to get involved, they can certainly use all the help they can get or would welcome all the help. I don't know if they need it. Next slide. Let's see. Their next meeting, their next Charleston Business District meeting is August 18th, 6 p.m., also at Typewriter Fever. That's at 620 North Callow. Next slide. And the new Charleston District newsletter is out. There's a QR code you can scan for that. And the highlight is the new owner of Calo Fibers, which is a brand new business on Calo. And I think that's all I have for sli
Thank you. Next, let's hear from District 6 Councilmember Anna Mockler.
Hi. So one of the things that I have been hearing from constituents and non-constituents is how to get a hold of city council. So this is announced at every open meeting, city.council at Bremertonwa.gov. That goes to our staff, our extremely overworked staff. So if you're not hearing back in a week or so, I'd give it that much time. You can easily find out who is your counselor by going to the interactive council districts on the council page website. I'm going to shout out something that happens in District 5, but three of the key holders of the People's Exchange are my constituents, so I'm g
okay thank you have a good week thank you um next district seven council member rick tiff do you have a report today um i do not have a report tonight thank you okay thanks so i think i have a couple slides dave Also on the city website, the council page, it does list our phone numbers. We all have a city phone number, so you can always call that or text to that number also. So I want to thank everybody who did the community budget survey. We got about 140 people at last count. And the results are gonna be shared at the August 12th study session. And information that we gathered from community
Okay, those are the only folks who signed up, but I welcome other people who didn't sign up if you have something you would like to come up and discuss.
Thank you. Thank you. Are there other people who would like to speak tonight?
Is there anybody else who'd like to speak?
Is there anybody else who would like to speak tonight? Okay, under item 8A, the council will now meet for 10 minutes to receive and evaluate complaints against a public officer or employee as allowed under RCW 42.30.1101F, and no action is anticipated. We'll be back in 10 minutes. Thank you.
This concludes tonight's regular council business meeting. Meeting's adjourned. Thank you for coming. All that for nothing.
