Fire Department Helicopter Training Sports Park
DAESA will be conducting training on Oct 27th from 7:30 to 9 at the Sports Park, practicing landing a medical transport helicopter (Aero Med Helicopter). The helicopter would land one time, around 8-8:30. Once it lands there is some addition on the ground training and then the helicopter takes off. We will put some messaging out to the community prior to the training.
Fall Fest at the Market
The DDA held its Fall Fest on Tuesday, October 6, and had a great turnout. They gave out candy to over 400 kids. That was the last Farmers Market of the season.
Leaf Season Starts on October 12
Leaf season will start Monday, October 19 with a citywide sweep and then alternating from the north to the south side of the river.
Social District Downtown
Chief Curtis and I had a meeting with the Michigan Liquor Control Commission (MLCC) on the events that happen downtown that permit open alcohol. There have been some changes with the way licenses can serve, due to the creation of Social Districts. The MLCC has advised us that moving forward we should create a Social District to accommodate our events and avoid conflicts with licenses and MLCC. Included in your General Information Packet is a Draft Social District Management and Maintenance Plan.
Soil Erosion Sedimentation Control (SESC) Administration Switch
The City currently allows the Clinton County Building Department to issue and administer SESC permits. A SESC permit is issued for any project that disrupts a certain amount of soil on a site or is within certain distances to wetlands, lakes, rivers, county drains, etc… Recently, DeWitt Charter Township Building Official, Dan Hufnagel, was certified to issue/administer SESC Permits. Making the change to DeWitt Township for the City would allow for the same person issuing the Building Permits to do inspections on the SESC permits as well. We are working with the City Attorney to prepare the necessary documentation for City Council to review and consider the change.
Farmers Market Project Update
The project is moving along on schedule. The main structure is due to be delivered on Wednesday, October 21, with installation starting within 5-7 after delivery. All the footings have been poured for the structure, so the contractor is in a good spot to begin installation.
