1:50•Torchio Feaster

Very much recording in progress that brings it down to the land acknowledgement statement and I will turn it over to trustee Wilkins who I believe is going to help us out and read that force please

2:17 – 3:20•Leslie Wilkins

Three Fires Confederacy, the Ottawa, Ojibwe, Chippewa, and Botawatomi. The taking of this land was formalized in a process alien to Native cultures by the Treaty of Detroit in 1807. The Anna Republic Schools recognizes that many other Native peoples lived on this land at different times, including the Fox, Sauk, Shawnee, Kickapoo, Miami, Muscatoon, and Cherokee, many of whom were forcibly removed from their homelands. Acknowledgement by itself is a small gesture and does not exist in the past or solely in a historical context. Colonialism is a current, ongoing process, and we understand our re

3:21 – 3:32•Torchio Feaster

Thank you Trustee Wilkins. Trustees, that brings us down to approval of the agenda. Trustees have been provided with the agenda in advance. Are there any changes or additions to the agenda?

3:35•Torchio Feaster

If I might, I would like to make an addition. I'd like to add the resolution restand still under board action.

3:49•Torchio Feaster

There's support? Support. Support by Trustee Baskett. Any discussion?

4:22 – 4:59•Torchio Feaster

The board would like to remind everyone the individuals who have signed up for public commentary will have their name called and will be given the opportunity to speak. Commenters will receive up to four minutes and the public commentary period will be limited to 45 minutes. When your name is called, please come forward and speak at the microphone. To help manage your time, a clock will be placed on the screen in front of you. We would like to remind everyone that public comments generally pertain to Ann Arbor Public School District matters. Comments about any individual or individuals are exp

16:56•Torchio Feaster

Thank you. We appreciate hearing from our community. We would like to thank everyone who spoke and shared their comments tonight. Ms. Linden, are there any points of clarification?

17:12 – 17:26•Torchio Feaster

Thank you. Trustees, I would like to call to your attention the community feedback for this meeting. There are three documents attached. That brings us down to reports of associations. Ms. Osinski, do we have a representative here from AAEA?

17:32 – 17:44•Torchio Feaster

Thank you. That brings us down to board committee reports, and I will turn it over to the Finance and Planning Committee and ask what occurred at their most recent meeting.

17:45 – 18:17•Susan Baskett

Thank you, President Feaster. The Finance Committee met full force Oh, I'm sorry, Trustee Norton was enjoying his vacation, so you did not get to play with us, but that's okay. We had a great conversation with the CFO and the finance team to talk about proposed changes, improvements that you'll see in the monthly monitoring report, went through that monthly monitoring report, which you will see, the Board will see later tonight. Thank you so much.

18:18 – 19:02•Torchio Feaster

Thank you very much. I will turn it over to myself for the Governance Committee report. The Governance Committee did meet and we did plan the agendas for the month of October. One of the issues, and I'm asking for trustees to weigh in on it, that we had robust discussion around was about the planning session the retreat that trusted vice president Wilkes is planning and I know there was some discussion we wanted to have here and I don't know if you want to introduce it but or trustee Muhammad wants to well I just wanted to clarify that it's actually a work work study session not a retreat rela

19:02 – 19:24•Glynda Wilks

few months a few I guess at the last meeting I think I mentioned it and there seemed to be some some support at least I got some support from my fellow trustees after the meeting so I don't know if we wanted to have further discussion but I would like to see it on our agenda or the October 17th meeting

19:25 – 19:37•Torchio Feaster

If you want, we can start talking about it right now if you want. You mean the 21st? Absolutely. Clarify the date. I think we're going to do it now. No, no, clarify the date of the meeting.

19:37 – 19:52•Glynda Wilks

Oh, I'm sorry. The date would be Wednesday, October 21st. There's a possibility. I know that there was some interest in having it early, like around 6 o'clock or maybe 5 o'clock. I know that there is the possibility of

19:53 – 21:39•Susan Baskett

having a closed session on that day I'm not absolutely sure if we're planning to but but so does that answer your question trustee bescat no I was just clarifying for Miss Osinski I think wanted to clarify that I just wanted if I may I want as I mentioned before I think it's a great idea to have this transition meeting I know we have not had it in the past and that kind of led to some issues with new board members coming on board. So I appreciate vice president, you bringing, leading this effort, if you will. I think if I was a new board member coming in, I would want to hear from the current

21:39 – 22:22•Torchio Feaster

I think the discussion we had, and Trustee Muhammad can build upon what I'm going to say here, but I think the discussion was whether or not we have that meeting on October 21st. Or we have it after the election when we know who the new trustees are going to be so they can be in the room and take firsthand knowledge and hear what's going to be happening so they soak in the transition rather than doing it before they're elected. And that is the heated, robust debate that we had in the governance committee meeting, and we're bringing it here now so that the rest of the trustees can weigh in on w

22:22 – 22:43•Susan Baskett

If I may respond to that, sir, I think it's better to have it sooner rather than later. We are a public body. We will meet in public, and all are welcome to attend. whether they are a prevailing candidate or not. I think it's good for those who have expressed interest in sitting at this table to understand where the current board is in the work that we're doing.

22:44•Torchio Feaster

I see Trustee Muhammad's hand up. I know she's passionate about this.

22:48 – 24:05•Rima Mohammad

So I guess, because I asked, is there an agenda? What is the goal? What are we going to be talking about during this work session? You know, is it just us just discussing ideas? What is the outcome of the meeting? Those are some things that I brought up. But also, you know, we've done it, I mean, you didn't do it during my, when I was elected, but the year I think in 2024, there were trustees that were invited to the table before, and we didn't call it a transition, but they sat at the table. So I would think that just, can I please finish? Of course, of course, please. So I think if I, I'm ju

24:07 – 25:50•Glynda Wilks

May I? Yes, Vice President. So I appreciate everything that you have to say, Trustee Muhammad. I would like to add that, so the agenda is still a work in progress, but just based on speaking with other trustees, and I know we did have a robust conversation during our governance committee meeting, what I'm envisioning is sort of preparing for, let's say you're preparing to have, you're welcoming guests. You try to prepare you make preparations right when someone is coming to visit just to make sure that you have everything in order correct so I see this as an effort for us to show that we that

25:50•Rima Mohammad

I don't know when it was. It was December 2024.

25:52 – 26:06•Glynda Wilks

I don't think I was. I was not. We invited. I sat out. Actually, I sat at the table like I was in the audience. I wasn't at the table. No, I was there. I was there, so I know I was sitting at.

26:06 – 26:37•Rima Mohammad

We don't need to fight about it. Yeah, I don't want to. What I mean is that. Again what are what is the outcome of the discussion what are we trying to address like you're you're saying like transparency you know all of that but what are we trying to get to is it to get a list of items of what we want to focus on for the rest of the year is it like what is the deliverable from the meeting so I think it would be if we are going to have a transition meeting which I think is a good idea I think it would be great to have it again

26:39 – 29:10•Susan Schmidt

at with the future trustees and have them at the table and have that robust not allowed I would like to verify that Mr Schmidt go forward so sometimes I've been on a board twice two school boards 20 years ago and this school board four years ago and many times people that come on a school board don't know what they don't know they don't really know all the aspects of what's going to take place I envision this transition meeting being those of us that are here and have served to say how are we going to get organized to have a structural way so that when these new folks come We already know ther

29:15•Torchio Feaster

Trustee Norton hasn't spoken yet, so why don't we let Trustee Norton go first?

29:18 – 31:46•Steven Norton

Thank you, Mr. President. Respecting the thoughts of all my colleagues, since I wasn't part of this discussion, I don't serve on the Governance Committee, I just thought I'd share. First of all, I think that some sort of transition planning meeting is an extremely good idea. And I think that there are a bunch of reasons why right now it might be more important than at other times, because we will be at midstream in a number of things that are extremely important. to the district. In addition to all the other things that we could say, gee, I wish I knew more about X before I actually had to sit

31:47 – 34:39•Susan Baskett

And I was under the thought that that would be part of the agenda. For those who don't know, the board started a self-evaluation and this would kind of bring things full circle, which I think would be valuable for everybody, whether you plan to be at this table or not as a trustee, it may be helpful. And that's one of the things we can do. The thought is again, as trustee Norton's mentioned, there are a lot of things that this board is in the middle of and will the work will continue. And it would be helpful, I think, for everyone to understand where we're currently are. And again, what we're

34:41•Torchio Feaster

I saw Trustee Muhammad, then I saw Vice President Wilks.

34:47 – 36:07•Rima Mohammad

So I know, again, I'm not against the transition meeting, it's just the timing. I want it to be as effective as possible and as efficient, especially if we do already have know who the future trustees are might as well have them. Cause yeah, I agree with trustee Norton. I mean, we don't know if they're going to be able to attend, you know, October 21st when they are also in campaign mode as well. they don't know if whether or not they're gonna get elected or not so I I see value but I would try to be as efficient we don't have that many meetings left for the year we have a lot of top prioritie

36:10 – 37:56•Leslie Wilkins

I would I will chime in yeah I want to have everyone chime in go ahead thank you I think we're probably I think we're talking about two different things so I think what if I can put words in your mouth trustee Wilkes What you're talking about is a pre-transition discussion. So those of us who are still on the board, many of us who have, not me, but many of whom have been on the board for a long time or served on boards for a long time, can offer their advice, their insights into what we could use as transition materials. So we would be discussing This wouldn't be a transition meeting. This wou

37:56 – 39:56•Glynda Wilks

Yeah thank you trustee Wilkins yeah as you know it's extremely difficult to try to nail down a date that works for all of us and you hit the nail on the Head I believe that this whatever we want to call it but it is involving transition pre-transition planning it's an opportunity for us to capture a lot of knowledge from some seasoned trustees who have served on this board for a while I know trustee basket has served for a while I know that trustee Schmidt has prior to serving on this board she served on a board in was it lansing or east lansing I know Trustee, you've been on here for four yea

39:56•Torchio Feaster

It's been moved by Trustee Wilk, Vice President Wilks and supported by Trustee Schmidt that we set the October 21st date as the date for the, what are you calling it?

40:08•Rima Mohammad

Transition planning meeting. Slash work study.

40:11•Torchio Feaster

Is there any discussion? Trustee Muhammad.

40:14 – 40:33•Rima Mohammad

I just have a quick clarification. So during the governance, because I asked Superintendent Parks if we decide that we don't want to do it October 21st, are there agenda items that can be brought? And she said absolutely yes. So just wanted to clarify, if we decided to do a different date, she does have agenda.

40:33 – 41:16•Torchio Feaster

We can flip the dates, she said, yes. And my discussion point would be, As I told Vice President Wilkes, I'm not sure how much value I see in the transition meeting, but I'm willing to do it if you all want to do it. I don't know that we're going to pour into each other much in terms of helping with the transition. So I don't know that that's going to be super helpful, in my opinion. I guess I tend to agree with Trustee Muhammad and Trustee Norton that if we're going to do a transition or pre-transition meeting, it makes more sense to me to do it with the people who are going to actually take

41:17 – 41:54•Susan Schmidt

So whenever this thing takes place I think it would be helpful to give information to our vice president as to the things that we think would be meaningful to make sure included in the information that's transferred to the new people as they come in And we know there's already an orientation process. We've all been through some form of that. I know yours was a little different because you kind of came midstream. But let's start thinking about how that can be more complete, more robust, and then we can continue that conversation.

41:56 – 42:57•Susan Baskett

I just want to kind of, I'm hoping I'm wrapping this up because we are taking a lot of time with this. Everyone here has different experiences having served, whether you were appointed, whether you were four years or four months, I mean, I think there was a lot of learning from everybody. I think again, it would be valuable. I am sorry that vice president Wilkins have had had Wilkes, excuse me, has had a hard time and trying to get something scheduled. I know she's been working on this for months to have a meeting. We started as a retreat. You know, now we're at a transition point. I think it'

42:58 – 43:15•Torchio Feaster

All right. If there's nothing else, then there's a motion on the table, moved by Vice President Wilk, supported by Trustee Schmidt, that we have the transition, pre-transition meeting on October 21st. We've had discussion. Ms. Ozenski? Trustee Baskett? Yes.

49:22 – 49:33•Torchio Feaster

Thank you, Ms. Linden. Any questions? Seeing none. Looks like that brings us to 8.2, student mental health support update. And I don't know who's bringing that. Is it you?

1:07:25•Torchio Feaster

Thank you so much. I see Trustee Muhammad's hand first.

1:07:28 – 1:08:01•Rima Mohammad

So thank you for this. It's very helpful to look at the data. And you made a point about, so the questionnaire focused on depression. Is there any plans to look at anxiety? Because I know that That is a big driver, something that I've dealt personally with with my child. But sometimes anxiety drives like chronic absenteeism and being present or even skipping classes. So is there a plan to address that piece?

1:08:43 – 1:08:59•Leslie Wilkins

Great that there's, you know, some sports stuff and some peer stuff and some, you know, the new JFS partnership. It's a lot of great stuff. I had a couple questions. The MiFi survey, when does it happen and how?

1:09:32•Leslie Wilkins

And do students, is it online? Do they... Check a box on a piece of paper? How does it work?

1:09:50 – 1:10:16•Leslie Wilkins

And it must give demographics, even though it's anonymous, so you know some of those statistics about the certain groups. Great. Yeah. And is there, it seems like there's a lot of focus on the high school level. And you said next steps, opportunities for elementary school. So what about our middle schools?

1:10:58 – 1:11:45•Glynda Wilks

Yes. So first of all, thank you, Ms. Bakalor, for this information. I think that this is something that parents need to be aware of, that students need to be aware of. And thank you for just sort of heightening the awareness. I really appreciate the collaborative spirit behind this, working with so many different organizations. so that we're not trying to take this on alone because I think the partnerships are really important. And I also appreciate the fact that you are trying to communicate with families. I did have a quick question about the safe spaces and the, let me see, the safe spaces

1:12:42•Glynda Wilks

But so there's no reset room or safe space at Skyline? Okay. Okay, just one other question. Is there an effort to try to work on getting one at Skyline?

1:12:58 – 1:13:21•Glynda Wilks

Okay, and I noticed that the card that you referenced, the CARES Salas card, which I think is wonderful, I noticed it's in a different language on the back. Yes. So are most of our communications and resources related to this whole mental health topic, are most of these communications available in other languages? Yes.

1:14:03 – 1:15:04•Susan Schmidt

okay thank you this this card is wonderful thank you for do you want a bunch more I know we know that the research that it's been done over I don't know looking at as far back as what 2010 to 2015 when we saw increased screen time for eighth to 12th graders. I know there's a study here, I had to pull it up, like half a million eighth through 12th graders when they looked at screen time and the increase in suicide rates for girls and pretty clear it's correlative right but they're even thinking about causation so what are we what are we doing to help parents understand the balance of how they c

1:15:45 – 1:16:19•Susan Schmidt

Well, some parent groups have already, I wish I could tell you the name of the groups, but they've signed pacts. Like there's a group of parents at BA that have signed a pact about reducing screen time and, you know, just for their children's well-being. Yeah. So anything, because in the same way that we try to, about good diet, you know, any of the things about good well-being activities. We can't separate this because a kid that's, you know, there's not that personal interaction with their peers, there's just, we know what the results are.

1:16:52 – 1:17:04•Susan Schmidt

I mean, anything we can do to help educate parents, because the generation now that is raising these kids, you know, they're locked in with the screens, so they can't step outside of that.

1:17:41 – 1:18:27•Susan Baskett

just sharing that recommendation for our students and families let's see basket again I wish to offer my gratitude for you and the team for providing this I know we as a board have been criticized in the past for not offering any mental health services and we have a whole plethora I'm sure this document will be on our website too for others to see but I have a question regarding initiating call if you will and follow up so whether I'm a student or a parent or just a loved one of a student I should bring my concerns or issue about the students to the principal or I mean what is the the best way

1:18:59 – 1:19:52•Susan Baskett

I guess my question is so I know nothing about care solace I just know I have a child in need or I have concerns so who is the best person to reach out to the challenge as you know with our social workers number one most people don't know who they are in the building and there they do have a caseload usually of students who are already are you know have IEPs or 504s I'm thinking that you know if I reached out to my principal my principal will or a principal will do what for me to make sure that again my concerns are addressed yeah I feel like I need to phone a friend turn to a friend and ask t

1:20:20•Susan Baskett

That's at the older level. The younger level? We have another subject matter expert here. Good evening, Trustee.

1:21:06 – 1:22:00•Steven Norton

Thank you. Pardon me all again, and I think that this is really wonderful work that you folks have been doing, and a very good reason to continue to lobby for the continuation of Section 31AA budget funding, part of which is targeted for mental health and schools, but is always at risk of being removed during negotiations. I did have a question because of other things that we have in mind. How would a student who is concerned about keeping conversations private go about navigating this. And to what extent, I know that many of the services as they should be are in school building, and does that

1:23:02 – 1:23:22•Steven Norton

What I'm thinking of this from both directions, what are the obligations on those providing services in the school? I mean, outside the school, it's different. What are the obligations in terms of notifying families if a student has come to them with certain concerns?

1:23:45•Steven Norton

So it has to cross some threshold maybe before.

1:23:56 – 1:24:33•Steven Norton

So I'm just imagining, you know, a teenager, you know, who is. Somebody like I was who it would have been maybe easy to easier to talk with somebody I didn't know than somebody I did know and so what sort of options, you know students would have under this system, but either way having it I think is Something that's been missing for a long time. So I'm really glad that we're building this up And I'm glad that the state is finally paying attention Thank you Thank you so very much we truly appreciate the great presentation and

1:24:34•Torchio Feaster

And that will bring us down to 8.3, our monthly budget monitoring report for August 2026.

1:32:45•Susan Schmidt

Could you just remind us and anybody watching this meeting that the community services, that they stand alone? Just kind of re-say that.

1:33:31 – 1:33:53•Susan Schmidt

sure so what are you feeling what what is our budget feeling with the increased cost and diesel fuel are we that I mean I'm looking at it here you know I'm seeing student transportation compared to last year to this year are we getting hammered there or not necessarily? Well, I would say probably, but I don't have that specific number.

1:34:05 – 1:34:21•Susan Schmidt

probably pretty clear we're not lucky for us we're not a district in the up that has just a massive area geographical area that we have to cover but even so and luckily we have some electric buses too yes we do yeah thanks

1:34:23 – 1:34:55•Rima Mohammad

so I know in so I think it's slide nine where it had all the other the payment summary by funds yes do we have an idea because this is just in August do we have an idea of the trends like I know we're not Like, I know we were presented the bond fund and the sinking fund budget, but do we have, like, an idea of the trends from month to month when it comes to some of these funds? I know this is only a one snapshot, you know, for August, but... Do we have a sense of the trends?

1:36:20 – 1:36:31•Rima Mohammad

Yeah, no. It's just how, I mean, definitely it's going to change from month to month based on the project and what we approve. And we don't expect to see. I think it's just like where we are in Target. But I don't know if we, okay.

1:36:52 – 1:37:04•Torchio Feaster

All right. Thank you all so much. Greatly appreciate it. All right. Looks like that brings us to 8.4 in the budget audit.

1:38:53•Glynda Wilks

Just real quick, for the record, wasn't today student count day?

1:39:28•Glynda Wilks

Will there be a count day in the spring or not? There will be one in the spring. This is so confusing.

1:39:43 – 1:39:54•Susan Schmidt

I just remember working in the legislature and seeing year after year how they would change the weight and you know the fall and the spring. So who made this decision and was it voted on? I mean how does this happen?

1:40:16 – 1:40:28•Susan Schmidt

So as if schools don't have enough trouble trying to figure out our budget, and then they throw these things at you at the last minute. This is just, yeah. But they set you up for problems.

1:42:52•Rima Mohammad

So where does it so if our student count is greater than

1:43:38 – 1:45:05•Steven Norton

Thank you. And I'm sorry, I don't want to interrupt you for very long. This is I think a really useful presentation I just for the for the folks watching at home one of the issues had always been that the section 31a money which is targeted at low-income students and section 41 which is targeted for bilingual education was distributed equally on a per pupil basis on qualifying Pupils across all districts and part of the point behind creating a weighted formula is to take into account things like concentration of poverty concentration of need which on the big picture is a really good idea but i

1:46:52 – 1:47:04•Susan Baskett

And correct me if I'm wrong, excuse me, that's like a pass-through for us. So it's not really in our, for us, per se, to use for things. It goes strictly to the staff.

1:47:41 – 1:48:05•Susan Baskett

So if I can kind of comment I mean you know we have been accused of not having a revenue problem but a spending problem we've got both here because we don't know you know we know what we're obligated to spend but we don't know what we're getting when we're getting it that's a problem so again I commend you guys for working on this

1:48:33 – 1:49:05•Susan Baskett

So I know we talked a little bit about this in committee. Do we have any idea? And all of the legislation was there like an expected date of getting real live information accurate information okay because we have had the horrible experience of you know making cuts in January so I just you know wanted to bring that to everyone's memory yeah and the only thing I can say is that we we consistently the three of us consistently monitor the mspo message board kind of see what's

1:49:41•Steven Norton

All right. Thank you. Oh, did you look at the worst case?

1:50:46 – 1:51:26•Steven Norton

I was going to note to follow on, thank you for doing all this. A lot of people aren't aware, and it's hard to figure, it took me a while to figure this out, that it's not just the foundation allowance that depends on our student count. A lot of the other what they call categorical targeted spending depends on our student count, not either Eligible students for certain services or the total student count so it throws Not just the foundation allowance, but a lot of budget items up into the air if you don't know what your counts gonna look like so Thank you, and I'm sorry Thank you very much

1:51:31•Torchio Feaster

After that, great news. That brings us to second briefing at 9.1 AN2294 CTE program lease agreement.

1:51:42 – 1:51:55•Torchio Feaster

Any questions, trustees? That brings us down to our consent agenda. And I will turn it over to Ms. Olszewski and ask her if she will please read the consent agenda.

1:52:37•Torchio Feaster

Thank you very much, Ms. Ozenski. Would anyone like anything removed from the consent agenda?

1:52:50•Torchio Feaster

By Trustee Schmidt, supported by Vice President Wilkins. Any discussion? Seeing none, Ms. Osinski, please.

1:53:08•Torchio Feaster

Thank you very much. That brings it down to board action, and I think we'll ask Ms. Langford? Yes. To come forward with the approval of the agreements.

1:55:41•Torchio Feaster

Thank you so much, Ms. Langford. Any questions, trustees? Seeing none, This is where I would entertain a motion.

1:55:51•Susan Schmidt

Congratulations on all your hard work. Absolutely. Because it's a lot.

1:56:09 – 1:56:21•Susan Schmidt

I move that we proceed to vote on all of them as a package. You're moving to approve them all? Move to approve all of them, yes, together.

1:56:23 – 1:56:34•Torchio Feaster

Moved by Trustee Schmidt that we approve all of the contracts brought forward. It was supported by Vice President Wilks. Any additional discussion, trustees? Seeing none, Ms. Ozenski, please.

1:56:44 – 1:57:00•Torchio Feaster

Right. I believe that brings us to our added agenda item and asking Attorney Landau to come forward so we can discuss the standstill resolution, if I'm not mistaken.

1:57:04•Steven Norton

Would you like to introduce this, President Feaster?

1:57:08 – 1:57:49•Torchio Feaster

Sorry. Sure, briefly, and then I'll turn it over to the attorney to clarify things that I don't understand more than I do. Obviously, we've been dealing with issues and as a result of our continued negotiations and working with our federal government over some policies over the last few weeks. Our attorney Mr Landau is now here with a agreement by way of a resolution where we will have or entertain a standstill resolution where there will be no action if we approve this for 90 days that's my understanding yeah let me thank you president Feaster and members of the board

Thank you so much. So the Board is voting to approve a standstill agreement with the United States Department of Justice, pausing further enforcement action related to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, or FERPA, and the Protection of Pupil Rights Act, excuse me, Amendment, the PPRA. while the district reviews its policies and practices for legal compliance. This review will ensure that our policies protect the rights of students and their parents are strong, clear, and fully compliant with the law. As always, the safety of our students, including our transgender and gender nonconf

So, pardon me, here's the text of the proposed resolution regarding authorization of a standstill agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice. I'll skip down to the meaningful parts, and I'm omitting the legal citations. Whereas, on September 14th, 2026, the Board of Education of the Ann Arbor Public Schools through legal counsel received correspondence from the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division asserting ongoing noncompliance under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, FERPA, and the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment, PPRA. And whereas on the board subsequently me

2:04:32 – 2:04:50•Torchio Feaster

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you All right that brings it down to number 12 I believe items for agenda planning the trustees have any items new items for agenda planning Trustee Wilkins?

2:04:50 – 2:05:08•Leslie Wilkins

It's not a new item, but it was brought up before an update or a discussion about AI use in general. And I just didn't see it listed in our upcoming meetings. So I just wanted to make sure that that got heard.

2:05:10 – 2:05:27•Torchio Feaster

Okay. I will talk to Superintendent Parks. Thank you. Anything else? Seeing nothing else, that brings us down to items from the board. Do trustees have anything they would like to share? Trustee Baskett.

2:05:28 – 2:06:18•Susan Baskett

Yes, thank you, President Feaster. Excuse me, I'm not quite sure if this was overlooked in the superintendent report or maybe I just missed it. Just wanted to kind of respond to one of the speakers this evening as well as inform the community again, because I do believe this was sent out regarding the strategic planning community input sessions that we're having. October 14th and 15th first one is that you're on and then the pioneer the next one and give me the time again is that six o'clock six to seven thirty six sorry six thirty to eight okay all are invited we have six to seven thirty okay

2:06:19•Torchio Feaster

All right, sorry. Thank you. Pioneer first, then Huron.

2:06:23•Glynda Wilks

Mention the dates again and the times of the school. Okay, so let's start over.

2:06:40 – 2:07:49•Susan Baskett

All are invited. You may attend one or both if you're really enthusiastic about it. But again, that's the community input sessions that we have scheduled already. So that was item one. Also wanted to mention for the community and trustees, the NAACP Freedom Fund dinner is scheduled for the first Sunday in November, as it has been for many years. Trustees, as the district is a supporter of the event, our tickets as trustees are covered. However, you do have the opportunity to sponsor students, multiple students if you'd like, at $40 each. This is an annual wonderful event that the local NAACP d

2:07:53 – 2:08:17•Susan Baskett

You should contact John Gaslow, the superintendent's office. If you want to sponsor a student, you are able to do that on the NAACP website. But of course, I believe Trustee Wilkes, you are on that committee per se, so the details can be, sent your way, but by check or by card. So, yes.

2:08:18•Glynda Wilks

I'm not sure I'm on that committee, but if I've been placed on it, that's fine.

2:08:26 – 2:08:37•Susan Baskett

Definitely, I will be there. So, for trustees who plan to attend, please contact the superintendent's office. We'll coordinate that with trustees. Thank you. Let them know that, but I'm referring to sponsoring a student as well.

2:08:38•Glynda Wilks

I have been helping, so I guess I am on the committee. Yes, you are.

2:08:41•Torchio Feaster

Thank You president Fisher I Had I guess maybe three things that I wanted to say quickly I

2:08:58 – 2:09:37•Steven Norton

the first one, and I want to underline here that I am only speaking for myself, although I suspect that many or most of my colleagues would agree. We didn't really have a chance to discuss this resolution regarding a standstill agreement. I just want to underline that it does not reflect any rollback in our commitment to protecting I don't know that we should go into any additional details. I respect that, Mr. President, but I simply wanted to explain that we have not changed our stance.

2:09:44•Torchio Feaster

I would advise against going into it publicly.

2:09:53 – 2:11:25•Steven Norton

All right. If that's necessary, then I regret that we didn't spend a little bit more time discussing it. Secondly, at least if the emails that we get are any indication, a lot of people are concerned about the questions of what might happen in any sort of financial realignment. And I just wanted to emphasize the fact that not only have no decisions been made, but with the support of the board, the superintendent has made clear that she's going to organize a very public and very extensive consultative process to examine those questions and to make decisions about how to make the decisions. A lo

2:11:26 – 2:11:52•Torchio Feaster

I echo that, because I have seen the emails that suggest that we have made a list and checked it twice and have made decisions, and that is in no way true. And there was reference to interviews that says that in emails, and that is not true. So I appreciate you pointing that out, that that is not accurate, and I hope people understand that that is not accurate.

2:11:52 – 2:12:44•Steven Norton

Thank you, President Feaster. Finally I wanted to just put out there about the upcoming elections there are a lot of organizations partisan and nonpartisan who are organizing volunteers to be active during early voting and on election day to make sure that the vote proceeds without undue interference and without any intimidation to make sure that every eligible voter is able to cast a ballot and have it counted, I would encourage everyone in our community to see if they can carve out some time to maybe volunteer for doing some of that work. So I just wanted to bring that to everyone's attentio

2:12:45•Torchio Feaster

Are you referring to the election protection type of work? Yes, yes.

2:12:49•Steven Norton

But there are independent organizations as well as partisan organizations that are all doing similar things. So you can participate in a number of ways.

2:12:58•Torchio Feaster

Okay. I've done it before. I agree with you. I think people should do that if they can. Trustee Schmidt.

2:13:04•Susan Schmidt

So to clarify, Trustee Norton, you were talking specifically about the article that was listing schools.

2:13:13•Steven Norton

Yes, that's the only one I've read. I don't know if there's another one.

2:13:17 – 2:15:38•Susan Schmidt

No, I agree with you, too, and I... you know I was in a meeting of zoom meeting with trustees basket and president Feaster with the author and we said you know there's a process it's going to be very involved it's going to involve the community we're going through our strategic planning process and no particular schools were identified I think what's frustrating is that these rumor mills start where people go oh well this I heard somebody say this one and then it takes on a life of its own and You know, people just sit tight, allow the process to work. I just want to commend our curriculum peo

2:15:39 – 2:15:51•Torchio Feaster

Thank you If there's nothing additional, I believe that brings us down to adjournment. Do I have a motion to adjourn by voice vote? So moved. Are all in favor?
