The only thing we had was a special chamber meeting last week and I think everyone knows that we had offered the job to our General Perry Wiggins and he accepted. So I think he'll be good for at least getting us through the end of the year and hopefully a little longer depending on what the city does.
Yeah, I did talk to a couple of commissioners that don't feel that it needs to stay together, but I am very adamant that EDC needs to be a joint venture between the city and the county. We need to have a seat at the table, and I I'm of the opinion if they do separate it and it goes under the city that we need to just do our own thing, which is going to cost the taxpayers money and be more, you know, not as efficient. That's where I'm standing.
I think it's wonderful that General Wiggins, I think he will do a great job. I would be real shocked if he stayed, if it was separated, you know, if we changed the structure. You know, his contacts with the state and the federal level will, I mean, I think he could take us to the next level. And, you know, his leadership skills I know will, you know, just shine. So hopefully, you know, I'll find the same page. Wonderful.
Yeah, well, I went to the celebration downtown for the new sculpture that John York did, and it's very, it's a cool sculpture, and it's called Solutions, which, you know, they are wanting to, you know, have some solutions to brighten the downtown, and I do think, you know, they're wanting to really ramp up the art section, the art district down there, and I think that that is a good, um, addition to that. And if you haven't seen it, it's pretty spectacular. And then it also lights up at night, which I thought was really cool. And then Patty Norvega is the new Main Street director. And I think
I sexually early for money. It ain't working that early.
I dropped the trailer off at 6.30 this morning on its way to work.
Yeah. I did see Josh Brewer last week, and I'm going to reach out because Commissioner Panera was also talking to him about Habitat, so I was going to see if we could have a joint meeting with him. You know, we have several lots down on the north end of town that are just plain, you know, just empty lots. And so I asked Josh, you know, if we were to donate them to Habitat, would they be able to, you know, maybe put a house there? You know, he was interested in that, but I wouldn't want to just give it to them and sit there for five years if they could guarantee that they were going to, like, b
They used to, and then self-help took that over, and then that's where they did all, like, on the east side of town, did all those. That was a self-help program that the city ran.
Did you have a few on your top? I didn't because I don't know what their like, requirements are, you know, so she's physically driven to every single one of them to look at them to say, Oh, I think this would be good, because they might have some different requirements. I have no idea about so.
Okay, I'll reach out to him and have a meeting with them and see. Okay.
So what about other department heads that aren't?
The reason why this was overlooked is because we didn't increase our pay.
So why wasn't this brought up in the budget?
Yeah, but it wasn't brought to our attention that I recall. About us.
There's not enough in our budget. I think there is. We'd have to amend the budget.
It's just the line item. It's not the overall budget.
Oh, that's yeah, I'm sorry it is. Is Travis called? He's not elected officially there, so maybe Jackie.
They have it on the beginning of the 1st day or the 2nd day of the 2nd day.
I'm sorry. I ignored his sign here. Or the letter of support, yes.
So we'll be hauling some rock and I'm just glad to see you guys inspecting the roads Friday. I think it was Friday morning.
Well, I think it's a great idea. Good job on it. Yeah.
Make a motion that we adopt Resolution 10-5-2026.
I like those. We got one. Those were probably my favorite. Don't put them in the dishwasher now. So were they plastic or glass? No, they're glass. Yeah, the logo they had on it was my favorite one. All right.
And it wasn't with us. Yeah, I know. I didn't understand. I thought it was with us. Oh.
So please make sure Mr Zimmerman has that. Are you please make sure the city manager knew about that too? He does.
We shouldn't have been as high or we shouldn't have been, okay.
Does having an MOU at Junction City help the rating, help your rating?
So some of the farmers that use their big semi-trailers and shuttle water for you, that don't count?
I was going to say, how often do they do that?
But will we be at a six until they come again, or can we ask, say, hey, we put this in implement?
Yeah, I think that, I mean, based on what you explained to me, I think that that is it. a good goal to have.
Well, you know, and that brings me to, and I don't know if you saw in the packet about, you know, I've been, I don't want to say confronted, but asked why I'm not supporting Rural Flyer. And that really hurts my feelings because I think, you know, I think the world of you guys being volunteers in such an important, I mean, important position. you know, since 2022. So I made a list of everything that this commission has done to support. And I'm glad you're here, Brian, because I don't know if you know all this, because I don't know if there's been, you know, one of the conversations that we had
Well, I mean, we paid for them. So, I mean, that's an expense that we had. You know, we got the cutoff saw. We've gotten the protective gear. I mean, you find another rural station that has gotten in the last five years how much as we've gotten. I think we've done. And we need to, you know, having that plan in place. And having a capital improvement plan is just a wish list unless it's funded. And so putting that plan in place is I feel very responsible and that we're going to be able to continue to see the improvements that you guys need and want. I mean, you deserve that. I mean, you should
I think Gary does a great job getting that.
For sure. Nobody's ever saying that. Right.
But, you know, we also have limited funds. Sure. And people need to understand the only people that are paying towards that budget are the people that live in the area that is served. So, you know, whereas, you know, Junction City, the whole entire city pays... for their taxes you know whereas ours is just it's not everybody in the county it's just the people that that this um uh district benefits and so they're not it's not going to be as as robust right no but i mean i think the most important thing that we did was put that capital improvement plan in place now we're still funding it so we'r
And just because we don't give you everything you want doesn't mean we're against you. Well, sometimes I think people think that. No, yeah, I don't. We have to weigh everything. Absolutely.
Well, after that one email, I had Tammy put together that list. So I wanted to share that.
But it was still an expense. I mean, that's what I was just pointing it out.
Some of that could have had something to do with the step.
Well, I think you just continually keep trying to work at it. You're not going to get everything overnight, but over time. And you don't want to get behind. but you can't get parts for them that are obsolete.
And I know I asked at the training about, you guys, you said you were working on the emergency plan for the, after the, you know, crisis is over and getting all the nonprofits together. Could we get, I'd really like to have that done by December 1. Do you think that's a possibility?
coming up on that in there because i i read the the statute um i think it's i wrote it down it's 48 931 and it says that they that that group should be meeting regularly about over the plan and stuff and then once we do get a plan i'd like to put it on our website just so people know what happens and what we need to do because i think there was a little bit of confusion over this we should uh
Has the county had an after action from the Grandview Fire? Have they had that already?
Yeah. Communication's the best. I mean, I think that would have been a little bit more. And I mean, people are going to do with, I mean, showing up there, you know, while you guys were trying to still fight the fire. I was like, are you kidding me?
So I make a motion that we accept the minutes with the changes with no changes.
Well, of course, at that time, I didn't know.
I guess if they don't have a seat for me, I'll go home. Okay.
Well, it was the one that we had to see in the board. It was early childhood groundbreaking.
I got one. I just didn't have a letter. Well, it might be a good time to go to the restaurant. Good time to stand up.
I don't have a lot of stuff to register deeds in the clerk.
you know we knew there would be a lot of confusion there there um we're going to the ba uh groundbreaking this morning starts at 11 so we just changed our meeting time and i know a lot of people didn't realize that so actually you know what they always say but i'm always the last to know me too
Oh, my gosh. Great pictures, by the way. Thank you. Could you ask for better weather? I mean, it was gorgeous. It was gorgeous. Yeah, it was nice. It was a great event. They did a wonderful job.
Yeah, no, I thought it was. I mean, it gets better every year, I think.
I know I was telling Kathy and Keith, I worked the booth in the morning on Saturday, and if I didn't recognize people, I always asked where they were from and how they, you know, and there was a ton of people that were camping out the lake that were from Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Missouri. And then some people, there was a lot of people from Manhattan and Wakefield. I think there was one from Chapman and then a lot of soldiers, obviously. So yeah, it was great. It was a great event. The car show went really well. Yes, I heard it did. It sold out on the food. Yes, a lot of places sold out. A lot
Oh good. Yeah, I didn't want to miss that. That's a huge deal. Huge.
The Republican Party. Just the forum. The Democrats aren't involved in it?
