Motion by Commissioner Kirch, second by Commissioner Scudo. Do any of my colleagues have items they'd like to remove from the consent? What number? What letter? Any polls from staff?
Does anyone in the public wish to pull an item and have it heard during the consent discussion portion of the meeting? If you're on the phone, please press five star to raise your hand. Lourdes, can you confirm any hands raised? Thank you. Felicia Bravo, please call the roll for consent items. Give me a second. B through H. Thank you, H. H.
Okay, those items pass five to zero. Can I get a motion to move up item 6A for proclamation? All in favor? Okay, thank you. We're going to go right into our proclamation. I guess Deputy Mayor, Assistant Deputy Mayor Clark, if you can read it, please.
Sixth special item, Proclamation A. Proclamation proclaiming the month of September 2026 as Hunger Action Month in the City of Sunrise. Mayor Michael J. Ryan, Deputy Mayor Jacqueline A. Guzman, Assistant Deputy Mayor Latoya S. Clark, and Commissioner Neal C. Kirch, Commissioner Joseph A. Skudow.
Thank you. If I can please have Mario Lopez, Director of Development with FarmShare, and Michael Bolson from Feeding South Florida, please join me up here. Thank you. Good afternoon. Thank you for being here. Thank you. So you are the only proclamation for today. The first presentation, so this is interesting for me. I wanna thank you for the work that you do in our community. Obviously the economy that we're in now, it's very much needed more than ever. And there aren't enough words to say how much we appreciate the work that you do, not just here, but across the state and the county. I'm gon
Thank you. If we can give them a round of applause. So besides these two organizations, we have quite a few other churches in our community who do food drives almost every week. So we thank those who are listening for all the work they do to feed our community. Hunger Action Month, whereas food insecurity continues to impact thousands of families across the state of Florida and within the city of Sunrise, and hunger knows no race, religion, age, or background. Whereas approximately one million individuals in South Florida face hunger, making access to nutritious food a critical need in our com
Thank you. Okay, quasi-judicial consent agenda. Staff, are there any affected parties?
Okay, are they here? Can you please come to the podium? Thank you. Please state your name, your address.
Before you continue, I just want you to know that we will be hearing this on October 13, 2026 for our next city commission meeting. And then you will have an opportunity to come back and speak what your concerns are. Thank you. You're welcome. Thank you.
Is there a motion to recess the city commission meeting? Motion. We're going to recess to reopening the regular city commission.
Second by Commissioner Kirch. And we're going to also get a motion to move up items 12B, 13A, and 13B. Motion by Commissioner Kirch.
Second by Commissioner Scudo. I am reopening the local planning agency meeting for simultaneous public hearings with the city commission on items 5A, 5B, and 5C of the LPA agenda and items 13A, 13B, and 12B of the commission agenda. This will be a simultaneous public hearing on local planning agency items 5A and city commission items 13A. Any questions? I think we still need to read it, though. Yes, thank you. An ordinance of the City of Sunrise, Florida approving a rezoning for general business district B3 to planned unit development PUD district of approximately 9.65 acres of land generally
Thank you. Is the applicant present? If you can please come up to the podium. Please state your name and position for the record.
Thank you. Does the applicant waive its rights for a quasi-judicial hearing and have this item heard as a regular public hearing? Thank you. I'm opening a public comment at this time. Anyone in the audience or on the phone, please? Thank you. Does any staff wish to make a presentation? And the applicant, I'm assuming, would like to make an application. Thank you.
Right. Yeah, you can't go through a program.
Well, okay. So that was my bad for asking if you have a presentation, but in the order I have it, there's a question here to ask for presentations.
Do my colleagues wish to hear or see a presentation?
This is a public hearing. Are there any members of the public that would like to provide comments on this item? Anyone on the phone, Lourdes?
Okay. Is there a motion for this item for the local planning agency?
Okay. Thank you for your patience, by the way. So motion by Commissioner Kirch and second by Commissioner Escudo. And call the question, please.
Sure, yeah. I want to say that even though there's been a waiver of formal condition, which requires a judicial hearing and no effective parties, I still reviewed the application, the staff report, the technical studies, plans and conditions incorporated into the record. I do find this project represents a meaningful reinvestment in long vacant property. I think it can strengthen our property tax base, help support our city services going in the future, and bring new residents who support local businesses. appreciate the enforceable commitment to 57 modern income affordable homes for the next
Thank you for your commitment to doing the entrance features.
The mayor? So I just need to see if we, item pass 4-0. 4-0, the mayor's not voting because he's by phone. Yep. Just want to confirm. Thank you. Okay, this will be a simultaneous public hearing on the local planning agency item 5B and city commission item 13B. An ordinance of the city of Sunrise, Florida approving a rezoning for community business district B commission. Motion by Commissioner Kirch, second by Commissioner Scudo. Call the question, please, on 13B. Commissioner Skidow?
Item passes 4-0. Thank you. Next item. This will be also a simultaneous public hearing on the City Commission Agenda Item 12B and LPA Agenda Item 5C. A resolution of the City of Sunrise, Florida approving a development agreement between the City of Sunrise, Florida Gray Star Development East LLC and Lowe's Home Centers LLC for approximately 20 acres of land located at the southwest corner of North University Drive and West Oakland Park Boulevard. Motion on this item from the City Commission. Motion. Motion by Commissioner Kirch, second by Commissioner Scudo. Call the question, please. 12B on t
Okay. If we can open up for a public hearing, anyone would like to speak on this to come forward? Or if you're online, please press five star. Thank you. Closed for open discussion. Call the question.
Thank you. Item passes 5-0. And we are now moving back to the quasi-judicial consent, items 5B and 5C. Any item may be removed from the consent agenda by commissioner, the staff, the applicant, or an effective party. Any item removed from the quasi-judicial consent agenda shall be tabled to the next regularly scheduled commission meeting for quasi-judicial hearing. Are there any affected parties for items 5B or 5C?
Thank you. Does anyone, a member of the commission, city staff, or the applicant wish to pull either item for a full quasi-judicial hearing to the next meeting? No. Thank you. Is there a motion for items 5B and 5C? Motion moved by Commissioner Kirch, second by Commissioner Skudo. And Felicia Bravo, please call the roll.
Item passes 4-0. And open discussion. Felicia, has anyone signed up for this open discussion? Thank you all. Anyone online to speak?
Jeez, you're all leaving at one time. What's up? You don't want to stay for the end of the meeting? What's up?
We're not done. We're going to... Someone signed up to speak? For open discussion. Okay, so we're going to reopen public discussion. If you want to come forward then, please. You can come now, yes. Thank you. Thank you. How are you? Please state your name and your address for the record.
Mr. Betancourt, before you continue, I just want to ask Tom, because we're still dealing with this item, this is an open discussion for something separate. Can we still hear?
So he's okay to speak right now at this time for this item? Yeah, sure. Okay, continue. Okay, thank you. Thank you.
So Mr. Betancourt, thank you for coming in. I actually remember you sending me an email back then. Yes. And the city coming in to help and working on some sidewalk plan. I actually drive through that area often because my kids play sports at the athletic club there at the SAC Park. It's right on that curve. And I see your property often and I remember the sidewalk. So I'm glad you're here. Because me personally, I think we need to address this. Of all the properties in the city, This tree is visibly, the roots are literally coming out all over your grass, if I'm not mistaken.
I'm sorry, what was your address? Because you're talking about Wynwood Isle. So you're on 44th?
So what's your address, just so I'm trying to think?
So you're just before it turns to 120th.
So are they trees that we planted and the swale, or is it trees that were part of your home?
Originally, we did from Wellaby Park, we put trees all the way down 44th Street to 115th. Okay. And then from 115th going to where your house is, we planted trees on the swale because we wanted to have that closed canopy like you're driving through. Okay. So what I'm saying is where your house is, did we plant the trees or were these planted by the previous owner of your home? I'm just trying to figure out.
Okay. So what I'm saying, because my brother lived right across the street from the tennis courts. He was the white two-story house, and the city planted those big trees in the swale, and it was ripping up all the people that lived on the 44th Street, which wasn't the front of their house. It was the side of their house. Where you are, it's the front of your house.
So Rodrigo worked with you before. Right. Now Rodrigo's a big boss. He's a director now. I mean, obviously we have to look whether it's something that's not just you. It could be a lot of people on that. Because the guy that's on the turn that has all the cars in front of his house.
So Mr. Betancourt, we'll have staff take your information. Okay. And I'm sure they'll be doing a site visit to see how we can further help you. Okay, thank you. And I thank you for coming in because this was definitely needed.
Well, you can get a serrated knife and you could just go.
I live in that neighborhood. I drive by your house every day. Oh, okay, okay.
You can give it to staff when they stop you over there. Thank you. Thank you, appreciate your time. And thank you for staying this whole time during this meeting.
Thank you. All right, so Mr. Moss, we can go right into public hearings.
Okay, so open discussion closed. Thank you. A and I. Yeah, public hearing 12A. I'm in 12. One second. Can you show me? Because I don't see it here on this paper. Motion to move up 4A and 4I. Oh, oh, oh, oh.
You know what? I crossed it out. Thank you. Motion to move up 4A and 4I.
Motion to move up 4A and 4I. Thank you, colleagues. Motion by Commissioner Kirch. Second by Commissioner Scudo.
All right, so let me read these items. Bear with me one second.
Let's see. Okay, so A is donation, C, 26255, a resolution of the City of Sunrise, Florida, accepting a donation from the Miami Realtors, Our World, to the City of Sunrise of large-scale Sunrise Letters and providing an effective date. City Manager Mark Lebowski, Daniel Lima, Economic Development Director, and I believe that was Commissioner Clark. It's all yours. Motion and second. Motion by Commissioner Kurtz, second by Commissioner Escudo. Thank you.
Such fun times today. So for the donation from the Miami Realtors, my question about this or my concern about this is because of November 3rd and the Realtors, they came out in full-blown support of I did not necessarily think that we should be taking a donation at this particular time that we can see that we are in agreement or alignment with their position. Also, I also wanted to get some staff to look at a possible design or in the event that we decided to take it, that we would actually have a design to look at it instead of just the plain white colors that we have.
We're going to have an artist from the city paint them after they give it to us later.
That wasn't fully discussed that I was aware of. It was, I think, to be discussed. To be discussed. So that was my two-parter. So with that said, do you want to, I don't know if you have any more comment on that?
Don't we already have a Sunrise, or is that one that we rent?
IS THERE ANY RECURRING COST ASSOCIATED WITH ACCEPTING THESE LETTERS?
Is this something that they've done in other cities where they donate artwork and stuff?
I'm supportive of it. Well, don't forget, the realtors came, not before us, but put out that they wanted to put two signs on every property, and all the cities voted against it, so it's... Not like they're... I'm just saying. And I agree. I mean, I would want to know what the cost is going to be to paint it, but I think it could be something that...
I just... Is this going to be something that we're adding money to it every year?
The only thing I caution that you want to put it at Willoughby Park, that we have safety town and a big playground and that it doesn't become where kids are going to climb on it in any way. I'm just saying, that would be the only thing... You know that I would worry about is that it's it's not a ride. It's not an enjoyment piece. It's not a slip and slide. It's not a monkey bar that people are going to climb. So is it something that we have to fence in? But then if you fence it in, people can't take a picture with it. You know, I just that would be the only concern that I would.
I actually am concerned with the location of where it was proposed. It is up against a fence, which is in front of. So for me, if anyone's sitting there to just look at the water, you know, just sitting there, the word is going to be blinding the view. But you mentioned if anyone's climbing on it, they're at the edge of the fence. So let's just say hypothetically a kid climbed on the ladder and fell backward. They'd be falling literally.
I'm sure staff is going to know where to put it.
Yeah, I just, I don't know if I'm, so basically what I'm saying is I don't, I'm not 100% on the location. I have the problem accepting it, but I think there might be another opportunity to place it somewhere else.
No, I don't have a problem accepting it.
So we could accept it for the conditions of, if it's too close to the water, obviously we're not going to put it at Wellaby Park. If it works at Wellaby Park, we'll do it. If I have faith in,
Maybe we could put it at Oscar Wynn so everyone in the Weston Park knows that they're in Sunrise when they visit our park. Just a thought. Okay, so.
Well, maybe they buy one and we'll have to buy the next.
All right, are we all done with this discussion? Please call the question. Oh, yes, thank you. Anyone in the audience would like to speak for open discussion or on the phone? No, hands are raised. Thank you. Public discussion is closed. Felicia Bravo, please call the roll.
Yes, Mary Ann Yeah, I didn't pass this five. Oh, thank you. And let's move to it was item I Agreement C26229, a resolution of the City of Sunrise, Florida, approving a contract for commission and purchase of public art between the City of Sunrise, Florida, and Honorable Sculptors LLC for a public art sculpture and providing an effective date. City Manager Mark Lebowski, Rodrigo DeCastro, Director of Utilities. Thank you, Commissioner. Motion by Commissioner Escudo, second by Commissioner Kirch. And the Mayor, it's all yours.
Thank you, Mayor. Actually, I wanted to pull this item too, so you beat me to it. That was a concern, but another concern that I had was, yes, the design looked beautiful. I thought it was very, very easy on the eye with the sculpture and, of course, the canine. My only concern is I didn't feel it was as inclusive as I would have liked it to have been. Per the rendering or the sketch, it was two males and the canine for police and fire. And I think we've come very far from the stereotype of police and fire just being men. So I think if we were to move forward with this, by all means, great. It
These prices, are they going to the Veterans Park? I mean, I don't know how much stuff.
Is there an estimate on the infrastructure cost to install it, do it? I'm not holding you to a dollar. I'm just approximately, is it $100,000? A million dollars?
So if we're going to add something. In that area, it's best to do it now while we're in there working as opposed to put something and then retrofit it later after undoing what we're doing.
And I have one follow-up question. Is this something that forfeiture funds can be used to help offset this cost?
It's worth asking to figure out if we're going to come up with a model.
Would it be possible to also look for more grants to help with that cost? Would that be an option?
I can't get any closer. And if we delay the approval of this, how is that affecting us?
So we know we wanted to do something in this site and in the beginning when the two chiefs got together they wanted to build a building that was going to be a million plus originally so i mean to spend six hundred thousand this is what it's probably going to be roughly 600,000 150 to rip out 350 whatever and then if you have to build the cement pads for all of these things The amount is close to 600 and that's if we don't have a change order. We don't have Whatever so I mean it's a lot of money just to put and my question was We're spending $600,000 to put something in between two buildings wh
you know, going to all these shows all over the country when we did it, and we would say the same thing. Look, these people are selling this stuff from Mexico and this stuff from here and China or whatever, and yet we're making American-made product, all handmade, all hand-brushed, whatever, and they're selling this stuff at $50, and we're asking for $100. You know, it was like, so I'm not knocking, but when we're expending money from the city, and now Commissioner Guzman brought up about you know, add or changing something. You know, do we do one man, one woman? Do we do two men, two women? D
If I can just chime in. I know a couple years ago I met with you and some others out there to look at the site and see what we could do. And I'm glad, you know, we've come to this point. But two, three years ago, I nor I'm sure my colleagues foresaw that we would be in the situation we are now with amendment three. and cutting possibly the nonprofits and then everything we've been talking about for the past couple of weeks. So as much as I love the statue, it's beautiful. It's worth its price, basically. That's how beautiful it is. I told you my concern, the inclusivity part of it, but really
No, there's no need to apologize. I mean, I have no problem supporting this. I mean, it's something that we've been looking for to do something. And obviously, we have to knock down whatever's there for safety concerns. So right there, we're already going to be into it for $150,000. I think if we're going to go forward and we have the money, and you're saying we have it now, maybe not have it after this, then I would just say hopefully, hopefully, with the support of the commission, if we support this, that we can get a slab of marble somehow onto the wall to do the names. I mean, a slab of ma
Could we approve the amount of money and then figure – I mean – I'm just saying, if somebody wanted to change the stat, I mean, obviously, you know, if we wanted to change something, could we put in the $325,000 amount, but not know specifically what it is of the statues we want?
Any artist would make sure to put that price at high, knowing that the money has been allocated for that.
I'm saying if we picked this person and just said, we want one man, one woman, and the dog. Right.
That's if the artist is going to want to go back and redesign something.
Okay. So then I support it. We'll just have to change. If it has to be one male, one female, who cares? The only decision you have to make is who's going to be the male fireman or the female officer. No, it's not going to look like you, McNamara. We have to have a guy with a mustache if you want it to make it look like a fireman.
I'm going to open it up for public discussion. No, no hands are raised. I'm going to close for public discussion.
Split it in half. You can do that. Half Dalmatian, half German Shepard.
Well, item passes three, two. Okay, thank you. We're gonna go to public hearings. Now can I move to 12A before I continue? Yes, we're good, all right. 12A, commission discussion and or action regarding second reading of an ordinance of the city of Sunrise, Florida, amending chapter three, alcoholic beverages, article one, alcoholic beverages by amending section three dash four, hours of sale, consumption, and service restricted. To clarify the hours of sale, service, oh sorry, of beverages on the premise for establishments. Providing for conflict, providing for serability, providing for inclus
Thank you. I'm now closing public hearing. Any discussion by my colleagues?
That's in where the old banana boat was.
Well, the one on 44th Street is not big either, but you go in there in the parking lot...
And the one on Oakland Park Boulevard is okay with this? Yes, yes. We're just waiting on the other one, and there's no other ones? Because in the beginning, there was like four or five.
Well, the one place is the shopping center now where Lowe's is, that place is closing, so obviously we don't have to worry about that one. Okay.
Any further discussion? Please call the roll.
Item passes 4-1. Oh, old business, new business. We're going to go into 17-8. Police Department presentation of the School Zone Speed Detection Program statistics for year 2025-2026. Daniel Ransone, Chief of Police. Oh, Brooke. It's nice to have you instead. No, I'm just kidding.
I just have a question for the speed cameras. So how many do you have this noted somewhere? If a cop... is in that zone and gives a ticket, handwritten, and then the camera catches the same vehicle. Do we have a lot of duplication? Because it could happen. So I'm saying.
violations we would take care so here I just saying this is now for normally we would have our traffic unit where the school zones were normally so now this helps us not to have the police officer in the school zone because it's pretty much we have an automation of the speed ticket and now they could go on other Sides of the city or different space. Yeah, exactly. My neighborhood. Yeah. So I'm saying, has that helped us?
Freeze us up that we're not stuck in one spot two times a day just strictly for the schools? So do you feel, I'm saying as far as the traffic side, do you feel that's helping us as a law enforcement agency to have these cameras freeze up our men and women to be in different places and not in the same spot?
So let me ask a question. So when we did the first study, or Blue Line did the first study, and you said, not you personally, I'm saying the... Data showed that in three days there was 15,000, you know, so, but you said that we did 9,000, but that was 15,000 in three days. This is 9,000 in roughly a six month period. So drastic, obviously drop. And now. Hopefully, I mean, we're not doing it to make money. We're doing it to make the people understand. Don't drive by a school because you're going to get a ticket. Just like when you're driving your car and you hear your car go bleep, bleep, means
I was driving the other day and like Allison's noise is different in a car. So she's like, don't you know what that is? That's the red light. I said, yeah, I know. But I'm saying, I mean, I think. These tools are really helping us. In the beginning, a lot of the residents were very standoff and very against a lot of the different things. But as I could see being up here for a long period of time, it's these things that are helping us and freeing us up. No difference in the regular business, where Try to go to Home Depot and there would be 10 cashiers. Now there's literally two cashiers and the
Right, and then he made believe he was typing, and I put it on speaker. I said, Christina, look, it's even making the guy look like he's typing. And he said, okay, Mr. Scudo, and then he was like... And I'm like, are you kidding? So I really wanted to say, she's like, don't you dare ask if it's AI. You know what I'm saying? Because I didn't want to look like an idiot, but I'm like, it's got to be because... But they're online. I mean, they're on point. And then you go to Dairy Queen. Right here, Dairy Queen has the AI when you order. So I'm like... So, I mean, look, I mean, you know, we're not
It gives you, right. It gives you backup to be somewhere else. And if we see, like you said, that one zone or that one school, still they don't want to listen on hiatus road and they're still doing 50 through the 20. Then, you know, Sparky's going to be out there and Copas and Revis and we, I mean, then they'll know, hey, they want to see the police presence. They don't believe in, you know, they're still going to speed. So, I mean, look, we got to make tough decisions up here. cost cutting and whatever. But if these little things could help us in any way, I think it's in the best for us. So I
I'm going to read the next one and then you can go into the right. Yeah, I'm going to have a red light. So 17B police presentation of the red light camera intersection safety program statistics for year 2025. Daniel Ransone, chief of police.
To the red light cameras. Is there one intersection that stands out above all for the red light cameras? Is there one that has just so many?
Okay, now as far as the amount, the numbers of tickets, is there any one that stands out? over all of them. Or is there two?
I just say, because the one by the arena at 136th and Flamingo, I'm just wondering if that one stands out because that one is the one where when there's a hockey game or a concert, there's just so many people that are one lane, two lane, then the people in the right lane are turning, the people from the middle lane, people go from the left lane. So I just was wondering if like that corner is like enormous where I don't know how, you know, we, you know, look, we're not trying to bang people out for the money, but you went from 10,000 issued to 5,000 that went to the citation. So now they go to
So usually they don't get the notice. They find out their license is suspended and then. Okay.
Okay, so that's what I say. A lot of people say, I'm not paying the 158. I'm going to wait until I get the ticket because I want to be able to go to court for the ticket and try to get it thrown out. I'm just saying how people, their scenarios.
It's cheaper to pay the notice than it is to go to court.
But everybody has their own scenario, how they think they're gonna beat the system or whatever.
Some good attorneys, 10 of them are gonna beat.
So before you go, I will say this. These programs are clearly what we stand for when it comes to public safety. So it's doing what it's intended. But I just wanted to make a quick comment. Since the bronze statue passed, I hope that the artist considers to make you a reflection of the women part of it. Okay, that's it. Thank you. I'm humbled and honored. All right, you're welcome. Thank you. Going into 17C through F, since the mayor's not here, do we want to put this to the next meeting?
Motion to table or whatever to... Do we need to table this, Tom? Do we need to table it or how does it work?
All of them? Tom, by them agreeing to it, it doesn't trigger any automatic.
I would continue to waive that. But we could fire him, and then he doesn't even get a raise. Oh, sorry.
All right, thank you. We're going to put that to the next meeting. So let's go into city manager's report. City clerk's report. No report, thank you. City attorney's report. And we'll go into the commissioner mayor report. I'll just go quickly. There are two items I want to discuss. One being, you know what, mayor, do you want to go first since I want to go in order?
Okay. Sorry about that. Thank you. There have been discussions on data centers, and I have been having some questions to staff and to Tom about what that may look like for the future of City of Sunrise. So I'd like to formally put this on to the next meeting. So just so you all aware that this is something I'd like to discuss formally in the future. And then the other concern, well, not a concern, I wanna share, if you don't already know that the school board is moving forward with, you know, the redefining their schools and Village Elementary, sorry, Banyan Elementary is on the chopping block
Or up here now. It may not be up there. Sure. Let those decide it. I'm just saying, hey, people can vote for who they want. I don't know if I'm going to be up here. But if it's an issue that's going to be decided, that's a pretty important issue. Why don't we let those who are elected deal with it in November as opposed to us trying to add something during a very busy time. may get undone at a later date.
I would just touch on to Mr. Lebowski and his staff to reach out to the school board and find out what it is that they would want to do with that property. I mean, obviously, you know, if the enrollment is down, we understand that. What could it be rezoned to and who they're selling these properties to right now? So are they selling them to residential in any other city? Are they selling them to commercial? Are they selling them to the cities? Because they've already offered us the site east of University. They asked us if we wanted to purchase that property, just like they're putting stuff al
I mean, the enrollments are down in these schools. You get a better education with consolidation, and I certainly wouldn't want the school board telling me how to budget
My city so right now I'm saying is there I would want to be able to control that property exactly I don't want them now to go sell it to a commercial developer who wants to build a shopping center there and Then in the middle of right when we feel as a city, you know, each of us would feel that we'd rather see residential or you know Like where Banyan is, where we'd want to see a commercial site there, or do we want to see residential? Where Bear Middle is, you don't want to stick commercial because it's right in the middle of a neighborhood. So, I mean, is there something with Shannon, if we
Well, we need to communicate with the school board that we are, before they go and sell or come up with an idea that they need to approach a city and we should have a right of first refusal, so to speak, to see is this something we want or is it something what we would like to see there to partner with them.
And then the other thing I want to touch on what Commissioner Guzman said about the data centers, So right now, there was one place that was in the city that was a data center, which was HBO Latin America. Their second building had a huge amount of data storage, and they have huge generators at that site, which can have a data center. Or if they open back up now, they could. But it's a small-time data center. The only other place that could really be a major data center would be the Amazon property. So again, to staff, I mean, I know years ago we talked about before Amazon bought, whether we w
So this is why I actually brought it up. My concern was the Amazon proposal property. And I was hoping to have a discussion of possibly doing some kind of moratorium until we have more information.
Like I said, if somebody owns a piece of property, what is it can we do now? I don't know if it's any different when all the CVSs and Walgreens start to close, started to close, and staff came to us and said, we don't want all of one particular store to start popping up in all these spots. We don't think it's a good idea. Let's do something. So whatever the something is, I'm not – I just – I know you're probably looking into this. I'm not trying to read your mind. I'm not – Just, you know, since Commissioner Guzman brought this up, I want to make sure we're all looking at the right way to do t
One second. Oh, they're cleaning, the cleaning crew.
Somebody's riding that dirt bike in the south. It's an e-bike.
All right, I was done. So who, Commissioner, sorry, Assistant Deputy Mayor Clark. Lee Wade, okay. Commissioner Escudo?
Yeah, I just want to thank Rodrigo and his staff. Spoke to the city manager's office, reached out to him in front of Wellaby Park. to all the runoff from all the rain not just this year but they went back and backfilled and put grass i think that's going to help hold back from where the sidewalk was to kevin and his staff you know thank you and then also i had the chance to go out to see um the site of lenar um I'm glad to see that a lot of us went out there. I had asked the staff that I wanted to go out there and see what was going on. And then they opened it up to each of us that we could go
And then my next question was when I asked Lenar about on this side of the bridge, There's a sidewalk, and then there's a – it's not a large medium that runs in front of the apartment complex that runs along the canal. It's just bare, and then you have to look at the sportsplex. Is there anything that we could – is there anything that you have in the ground that we can't put anything in that swale, or can we put some type of light tree or light something –
Okay, and then I want to thank you, your department, and also Lenar. That is going to replace or whatever the whole entire sidewalk. from one side to the other because of the washout and everything. So I'm glad I had to get ahold of Sean and you guys because when I went out there for that site visit before, I wanted the site visit for Lennar. I noticed all of the sidewalks were alike. But I would still want to see part of it to be blocked off on the property of the people with the apartments to that sidewalk, because it's like a two-foot drop. So I don't know how we notify them. I know that I
I'm saying, Shannon, here's the building for the people with the apartment that we had to do the slow take from. They have a sidewalk from their property that goes to that sidewalk, and it's like two foot down. So they just sprayed it. They didn't close it off. Somebody... from the sidewalk has to jump up to get on the sidewalk, or the person that's walking could fall two feet.
From the property to the sidewalk. Let them close it off on the property side. So at least they're covered and we're covered. Because anybody, you know, all you see is Mayor Ryan get sued for every single person who falls on a sidewalk.
I'm saying it's not our property. It's their property. But their sidewalk is two foot down, and I don't want to see someone fall, so they should rope it off or close that part off. That's all I'm saying.
All right. And then the last one is the development that's going next to the old Fox movie theater, the affordable living. People in the beginning were worried about what it's going to look like, but they have done an unbelievable job. The site is always clean, and they're moving. They really are moving. They're already scratch-coating the outside. They've got the windows in. So I can't wait until that really gets open to really – make that look like a really nice building with a lake in the front and to give true affordable that doesn't even going to look like it. Thank you.
Yeah, I also had the opportunity to visit the Lunar property. I won't echo what Commissioner Skudo said, but I do want to commend the City of Sunrise for their What I should be doing in my practice I took a lot away from it. I know a lot of the people Fantastic I encourage any entrepreneurs or businesses.
So anyone out there listening, if they do it again, it's a great opportunity to come get some information. It really will help your business grow. After that, I had an opportunity to go stop by the Mayor's Touch Challenge, the Sunrise Tournament. It was great to see everyone out there, well-attended, a lot of good kids, a lot of great compliments. That event, what was Monday? Something Monday, but last night I wanted to congratulate Mr. Dobro and the entire American Legion Command 3-6-5. I was going to say 3-0-5, but that's Miami. But 3-6-5 post in Sunrise for their reinstallation. Congratulat
I want to say also, very well attended last night. I went to therapy with Caitlin and on the way home, I said, if it's not raining, I'm going to stop by. We did stop by. Caitlin actually loved it. She laughed the whole, she loved the clapping, the different claps that they do, the saluting. And then thank you for giving me the opportunity to speak. And then Caitlin was crying when I was speaking, so I'm like, what are you crying for? It was a solemn thing. It was nice. But beautiful event, very professional. Whatever help you need as far as from the city to help you get to that new mark, if yo
Great job. Thank you. And last, thank you to whoever controlled the air conditioner tonight. Appreciate it. I'm not freezing up here. So thank you, whoever handled that situation.
Thank you. And just to clarify, Mayor, you said you waived a report, right?
Okay, thank you. All right. Can I get a motion to adjourn? Motion by Commissioner Kirch, second by Commissioner Scuddo. All in favor?
