Chair, when you can, I want to be acknowledged that I'm here in attendance. Thank you.

Okay. Uh, second division major Russ Miller wanted to recognize the unit of the year. The second division impact unit is dedicated to violent crime and narcotic investigations. The work done by this unit without question made the city of Louisville a safer place to live. We would like to recognize Detective Anthony Garcia, Detective Dakota Clements, Detective Brent Maynard, Detective Michael Chesser, Detective Joshua Forshee, Detective Christian Lewis, Detective Anthony Shepherd, and Detective Bert DeLong. I don't either. There you go. Okay, third division. Officer of the Year, Officer Christo

Oh, man. Go on a wrench. Jeez. Okay, for the 4th Division, Officer of the Year, Eric Burnett. For the 5th Division, Officer of the Year, Juliano Lutz, and the Rookie of the Year, Officer John Cornett. Anybody here from the 5th?

Okay, Sixth Division, Officer of the Year, Officer Alex Thomas. Rookie of the Year, Officer Brett Milliner. For the seventh division, Officer of the Year, Officer Andrew Woodard, and Rookie of the Year, Officer Jaron Crittenden.

On you. All in the family. All right, and last but not least, the 8th Division, Officer of the Year, Officer Derek Williams. Okay, we're going to read a proclamation here for the Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies. Whereas these deputies have earned the distinction as Deputy of the Year and Rookie of the Year, and whereas the safety and well-being of the citizens of Louisville are made possible by the tireless dedication, courage, and professionalism of the men and women who serve in law enforcement, and Whereas these officers as esteemed members of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office have

Thank you, Chair Scheim. Just I wanted to say quickly, four years ago when I was campaigning to represent District 9, one of the things I kept saying on people's doorsteps over and over again was we have to rebuild the faith and trust between the community and law enforcement, and that is a two-way street. And I said it over and over and over again. And at the time, I wasn't even sure exactly what that meant. I just could feel that there was something missing. And that relationship, that trust in one another, that faith in one another, is probably the most critical component of law enforcement

Thank you, Chair Simon. Thank you all for being here. I apologize that I could not join you. I got stuck out of town. But I want to thank you for the work that you do every day. I think, you know, Mr. Bass said it best at the beginning. You do work that I could not possibly do, and I think probably many of my colleagues would not do. want to do either. And the work you do to keep myself, my family, my children, and the members of the public, their children safe every single day is work that does not go unnoticed and that we're truly grateful for. To you, members of the Sheriff's Office, member

Thank you, Mr. Chair. My background is loud, so I won't be too long, but please don't mistake the brevity of my message as I am just as passionate as my colleagues about supporting you all, making sure you have the resources that you need to solve crimes and to respond. But I will tell you, even from this virtual view right here, to see the pride on your faces, to see when the camera captured you in the audience, I know you take pride in your work, and I know that we're celebrating people who have been outstanding from every division, including the sheriffs and including corrections. With my w

And again, as Councilman Winkler said, I apologize for not being there. I have to leave quickly to go to a Suburban City Council meeting. But I want to give a special shout out to Major Tatum of the 8th Division, who is always very, very responsive to Jared, my LA, and me whenever we reach out. She does a fantastic job. The only thing I have against her is that she is a UK fan, and we've had some discussion about that. But we've managed to overcome that difference. I'm just kidding. And also, you know, I have three suburban districts that have police departments that would be Prospect, Indian
