Thank you. We have, two special reports and two resolutions today. So first is resolution 26 dash zero two three.
Council considers resolution 26 dash zero two three honoring the employees of the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office and designating May 2020 '6 as National Correctional Officers and Employees Week and May '6 through sixteenth twenty twenty six as National Law Enforcement Officers Week in Snohomish County.
Thank you. Any questions or comments from council members today? No? Okay. Do we have comments to the resolution from our sheriff? Welcome.
Yes. Thank you. Do I have to push a button? No. I love this. Thank you. I just always appreciate the opportunity to come before you. And it's not lost on our staff, this proclamation resolution. I'm proud to stand before you and represent both our corrections staff, obviously, and our law enforcement staff. I want to call out the courage, commitment, and compassion that it takes to do the work.
I know you guys are strong advocates that behind every badge that you see wearing on your behalf is a story of themselves and their families with sacrifice and service. And for us to pause this week and last week for this recognition is really important to us. Thank you so much, and thank you for the opportunity to say a few words. But any support they get is a big deal. So thank you for this. Thank
you so much, Sheriff. Councilmember Bello?
Thank you, Sheriff Johnson, for your leadership, and I appreciate the great work that our law enforcement personnel do. It's difficult leading a a great group like that where you have a group across the street, then you have another group all throughout the county. And we just really appreciate the work that our officers, our deputies do. Over the last ten years, I've had a lot of opportunities to do ride alongs, do some tours of the jail, always professional staff, always working hard for the citizens of Snohomish County. So I'm honored to put this resolution forward today. Thank you.
Other council members? Okay. Is there a resolution? A motion.
I move approval of resolution 26 dash zero two three.
Second. It's been properly moved and seconded to approve Resolution 20 six-twenty three. Any other discussion? Hearing none, all in favor, please say aye. Aye. Chair votes aye. Any opposed? Hearing none, that passes five to zero. Thank you for being here, we appreciate the service of our employees. And then we'll take a quick recess for a photo.
So we'll take a two minute recess for a quick photo. Okay. Council has returned from our recess, and we'll continue on in the agenda. And next is Resolution 20 six-twenty four.
Council considers Resolution 20 six-twenty four, recognizing May 2026, as National Nurses Week in Snohomish County.
Thank you. Any questions or comments from Council?
Thank you, Chair Dunn. The 2026 theme for nurses is the power of nurses. We appreciate the great work that our nurses do. One of the statistics I learned as I was reading the resolution, preparing the resolution, is that over one in five nurses when they start leave within the first year. It's a very demanding field, a very tough field. We really appreciate the nurses we do. The other thing I learned too is that we are facing a projection of about 264,000 nurses across The U. S. This year. So it's definitely something we need to highlight, highlight the great work they do and we just appreciate our nurses. Thank you.
Other comments from counsel? Is there a motion?
I move approval of Resolution 20 six-twenty four. Second.
It's been properly moved and seconded to approve Resolution 20 six-twenty four. Any other discussion? Hearing none, all in favor please say aye. Aye. Chair votes aye. Any opposed? So unless there's objection, those will be assigned to those, GLS. Clerk's Clerk's report on pending legislation. There's no report. Reports of counsel committees. You can see dates and times. Are there reports of outside committees? Councilmember Loh?
Yeah. Did attend the WIR conference last week. I learned a lot about emergency management and how they handled the big fire that they had in their community. It was really probably one of the best conferences I've ever been to, And so I just wanted to give that report. And then I will be attending the Transportation Improvement Board coming up this week. I just wanted to announce that they will be electing a new chair. I've been chairing that the last two years, but we rotate during this meeting every two years. So I just wanted to put that report out there.
Other updates? We had our so I'll update that we had our community transit meeting on Thursday and got a little bit of a briefing on the merger for Everett Transit and Community Transit. So that will be an important vote moving forward that'll, use an ILA process, and those discussions have started. And then the for the end of this week, I'll be at the legislative steering committee and the board meeting for the association of counties, and we'll be planning our legislative priorities for the year. So if there's any discussion on that, please let me know. That's in Walla Walla. So I will be there for the rest of the week. Any other updates? Okay. We'll continue on the agenda.
